I just deployed a site upgrade. Here is the changelog:

  • New private messaging system.
  • Private message content is now sent via email.
  • All messages (to and from) appear in the same feed.
  • Notices page now shows the full context of a comment making it easier to respond.
  • Upgraded to Bootstrap 3
  • Subtle design tweaks here and there including flat buttons and a taller header.
  • Snippets page now uses newer activity stream format.
  • Added platform filter to snippet and explore pages.
  • Updated look and feel of the homepage.
  • Dropped www from hawkee.com.

I like the changes. However, I'm unable to see old messages and I don't see anywhere to send new ones :)

@sean I still need to write a migration script to bring the old messages into the new system. You can send anybody a message from their profile. Were you expecting a user search on the messages page? Maybe I can add something like that.

the changes are fine, I just don't understand dropping the www CNAME.

The www just isn't necessary. I prefer a shorter URL whenever possible and the trend lately is to simply drop the www. Neither StackOverflow or GitHub use it.
