Baymax - Tokio X

After building a 5" Shiv and flying it for a few months, I knew I had to eventually upgrade to something lighter and more powerful, but still durable. When I first saw the Tokio and it's test flights, I knew I wanted this frame. Together with the new Emax 2306 motors, I sure wasn't disappointed with my decision! Stock Betaflight PIDs already felt locked in. Corners had so much control and power with still a smooth control. I was worried a lil if it was going to feel more like a race quad and not have good characteristics for freestyle. Nope, this build is a beast with a smooth flow for freestyle.

I had to slap on a 90 degree SMA adapter for my video CP antenna cause I was having weak video signals. The downward angle helps get it out of the way of the props, but makes for bad video signal as the signal then is dispersed vertically instead of horizontally. I also had to use zip ties to hold it upwards in a crash.

Man, where did you buy this frame, ecsacly for HD Camera?

ClfHngr   Jun 28, 2018

They sell it as an option in their frame package. Or you can get it as a separate item:

One more question. Where you buy cable defender, 4 in 1 esc?

ClfHngr   Jun 29, 2018

In the photo, thats the Spedix 30a 4-1 You should be able to find that anywhere.

Question about this build: do you think it is feasible to put a Runcam Split 30*30 board on top of your existing stack? Or is it too tight? Thanks!

ClfHngr   Aug 03, 2017

Naw .. you'd have to do ESCs on the arms to fit the Split in the stack. That's my plan when I get the Split.

Very nice built! I really like this frame and believe it is going to be very competitive. Mike has really put a lot of work into it and it definitely shows. Also, where did you purchase the carbon plate that's on top in pic #4? Keep us up to date with the good or bad as you put more flight time in.

The top plate actually came with the frame kit. At first I was going to use it between my battery strap and ESC/PDB. But I felt its best use as a top plate to mount my RX and VTX.

Finally got a decent 6 packs today on it. Feels great still on stock PIDs. The only complaint I do have is the video antenna mount. I'm using a CP antenna and no matter what angle you're flying, your video signal is dispersing vertical instead of horizontal. Might be ok for short race tracks but definitely not acro flying. Had to put on a 90 degree SMA connector on it. Now I don't have video issues anymore. I'll post a photo of the mod here.

My Tokio X is on its way! No issue with the funky shaped SMA connector on the Unify and the Tokio X pod?

ClfHngr   Apr 29, 2017

Nope. No issues. Fits like a glove. Although I'm thinking about getting a 90 degree angle even though they designed it to have that downward angle. Had a few video issues getting out of range cause the circular polarized antenna's signal now goes straight up and down. I'm sure it's fine for racing but freestyle, you might have range issues

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
