ASUS Eee PC 20G (8.9" Screen, 900 MHz Intel Mobile CPU, 1 GB RAM, 20 GB Solid State Drive, Linux Preloaded) Galaxy Black
I've been watching the ASUS eee PC products for awhile now, but after reading many positive reviews of the eee PC 900 (Linux version, 20GB memory) and lugging my 5 lb. laptop to NYC on my latest trip, I decided I had to try this one.

I got it in the morning, charged it while I was running some errands, and began putting it through its paces when I got back. Keyboard is small, but I have small hands and it's working fine for me. I will likely activate advanced desktop mode at some point, but for right now, the tabbed desktop is just fine. For email, web connectivity, a little music, a few games, and the ability to write/edit documents and presentations on the road, this is terrific! It's exactly what I need without what I don't need. And it really does weigh just under 2.2 lbs, even with the power adapter! Also--no one has mentioned that it has some voice activation built it; what a great idea.

ASUS Eee PC 900X 8.9" Sub-Notebook
I am a video freak and really have enjoyed my eee PC. The eee is really small and awesome when you also have something like the maxtor external usb2 external hard drive (requires no power other then 2 of PC's USB connections) I watch videos at work at my security job and have sold everybody who watches my videos when they go past my watch post. When I don't want to plug in my hard drive I plug-in my external usb2 wintv HD device attached to a little 5 inch antenna and I can watch live any of the 28 High Defination channels available in the Chicago Area. The wireless connection is great for checking my email and with skype (which came with PC) I have saved a ton of minutes I no longer pay my cell phone carrier. NETGEAR HD Gaming Wireless-N Networking Kit
Got this and set it up right away. Set up was very easy and as someone who normally waits until hubby comes home to do things this was a breeze for me. We're a gaming household with all next-gen systems. So this truly came in handy. Once set up I notice that there was a remarkable difference when connecting via my laptop. I also tried going online via the Playstion 3 and the connection speed was so much faster than when I had my Linksys connected. I must say that I am using Cable Internet services. As stated though there was no lag when hosting matches via Xbox Live and that was exactly what we were looking for. This is definitely what you need when gaming. It does exactly what it says it will do. I don't normally recommend products but this one gets a definite thumbs up from me.

Grace Digital Wireless Internet Radio
the reviews below all seem to be on the mark.

i'd only add that setup was a joy - plug it in, enter the password for my network, scroll to "news," highlight "BBC," and listen. total elapsed time less than five minutes -- less than it will take to get those dam stickers off (anyone have a solution? -- the guy that decided to do that should get another job.)

i may read the manual for some of the fine points (e.g., the workaround to having only five presets), but it might not be worth it.

i contrast my experience here with the Roku, on which i spent hours over the course of two weeks, only to have the thing die.

like the other reviews said, looks good, works great, etc.

Sony BRAVIA 1000W 5.1-Ch. Home Theater System w/ 5-Disc Upconvert DVD Player
Sony DAV-HDX576WF Home Theater System
Overview:
Another "Home Theater in a Box" design (HTIB), the Sony DAV-HDX576WF tries to be all things to all people and does satisfactorily in some areas and poorly in others, so a mixed bag. The basic components are the following:

(1) Receiver (Main Unit). You get a basic 5.1 surround sound receiver facilitating six sources or inputs: DVD, TUNER, AUX, SAT/CABLE, TV, and DMPORT. The DVD player and AM/FM tuner are built in to the receiver. These internal sources in more detail are configured as follows:
* DVD: The internal DVD has five trays to hold five DVDs or CDs. The DVD outputs 5.1 surround sound through the 576 wireless surround sound speaker system, and outputs video three ways: HDMI, component, or composite. You can use the DVD/CD player to play Data-CD or Data-DVD disks that have MP3 song files or JPEG image files.
* TUNER: The internal FM tuner stores 20 stations, and the AM tuner stores 10. Reception is strong and clear if the antennas are

Apple Wireless Mighty Mouse
Like others, I recently purchased a 2.5GHz MacBook Pro after being away from the Mac world for a few years. I wanted something that matched the MacBook in function and in form. Unfortunately, I only got three-fourths of what I wanted.

Out of fairness, I'll note the good first.

The Mighty Mouse looks like every other Apple design--minimalist, yet refined. From the top, it could double as a bar of soap due to its milky white oval design. The side buttons sit nearly flush and unnoticeable, and the scrolling ball is neatly recessed. The smooth bottom slides easily on a mouse pad or wooden desk surface. And, because mine is new, the scrolling ball operates flawlessly (though I am wary of dirt--but hoping that the alcohol cleaning cures it). Bluetooth connectivity is perfect--though, from what I've experienced in the short time I've had the MacBook, Apple focuses on simplicity and making things "work." Connectivity, then, is no different. Essentially, it looks good, and for a casual

ASUS Eee PC 900L 8.9" Sub-Notebook
I bought the Linux version and after playing with it for a little while I booted from an external floppy drive with a Windows 98 boot disk, deltreed the Linux partitions, rebooted and fdisked and formatted the 4 GB C: drive and then used an external DVD drive to install XP Pro using an nLite custom slimmed down version. I also installed Office 2003. For $43 I bought a 2 GB RAM stick and replaced the 1 GB that came with it. I also bought a 16 GB SD card for $45 online to give additional storage.

Comments from observers: "Is that a toy computer?" No...it is full-featured and lots of power. I like the Asus 900 EEE weight factor as my primary laptop is a Dell Precision M6300 that is huge. My wishes for improvement: WiMax and Bluetooth so I'll probably get the new versions and this one may get passed on to a relative.
The lack of a CD drive is not critical here to me, but some may find it limiting. External DVD drives are cheap though. The onboard Atheros wireless chip is good in the room

Grace Digital Wireless Internet Radio
I actually bought this unit because of its pricepoint on Amazon. Considering the difference in cost between this Grace unit and the others, I was ready for "You get what you pay for". Most of the time, however, this unit works extremely well. It has no trouble reading the local network and gateway and has logged on to many stations around the world without difficulty (through WMA or Realplayer etc. which is built-in). It's great to be able to listen to some of our favorite radio stations without having to turn on the computer. As most audio feeds are tiny, the unit doesn't steal much bandwith either. The Grace is a little quirky for there have been times that it just won't connect. There have also been times that during connection the link simply drops. We have to unplug the unit once and awhile and just let the unit re-boot. Overall though, my family and I are happy with the purchase and would recommend the Grace Wifi to others - especially if one wants to save some money.

Garmin nuvi 760 Automobile Portable GPS-Garmin nuvi 760 Automobile Portable GPS
I cannot add much more to the other Reviewers. This is great GPS. But, I HATE how the search returns characters from the middle or end of results.

I'm looking for Applebees, - and I type in:

APP

and Find - in order of the distance ...
hAPPy panda
hAPPy china
snAPPle distribution
stopgAP Performance
and many, many other business with 'app' ANYWHERE in their name and names.

I SWEAR to you, Garmin, NO customer searches for the Middle or End of terms we are looking for.

Garmin nuvi 760 Automobile Portable GPS-Garmin nuvi 760 Automobile Portable GPS
I purchased the Nuvi 760,after returning the 660 for its poor maps. The 760 came with 2008 maps, and Garmin would not let me download free 2009 maps.It seems the unit I bought had been activated 4 months earlier.I don't know if it is Garmin or Amazon sellig returned units as new,but no more Garmin products for me! I would not bet my life on the directions the 760 gave either. The nearest police were 5 towns away, same with hospitals. We have 2 police stations in this town, both over 25 years in the same location. Our hospital is 5 times the size of the nearest one the 760 gives! My 3 year old in-dash gps is twice as accurate!

Apple Time Capsule 500GB External Wireless Network Hard Drive
have been using the 1T version for awhile with the firmware update with both Leopard & Vista, here is my impression:

(+) cool design. no power brick. run silent.
(+) works well with Time Machine, wireless data streaming with "n", network printer.
(+) works very well with VISTA.

(-) can run very hot, especially if copying files & running continuously. gets hotter the longer it runs.
(-) TM back up is slow both wire & wireless. first back-up of 30G took literally more than one day. took it to Genius bar --> nothing wrong . . . . incremental back-ups are faster.
(-) TM back-up utility is questionable because: (1) slower than normal copying, (2) takes up more space, (3) who needs hourly back-up, (4) no catastrophic corruption with Leopard (or Vista for that matter).
(-) throttles internet speed.

*** because of the (-) and my network-enabled printer, i now mainly use it as a wireless back-up hard drive and for streaming video/music and only turn it on when need to.
i used Winclone &

Garmin Forerunner 405 GPS Enabled Sports Watch with USB ANT Stick - Black
The Garmin 405 is not my first HRM watch, but it is my first that has integrated GPS functionality. This watch is slightly complex as mentioned in an earlier review, but not too complex to get used to, and once you work out your process for using the watch it is not complex at all. What makes it initially seem complex is that it has so much functionality you can use it can be overwhelming. To turn on the light simply requires you to touch the bezel with 2 fingers rather than one, same motion for turning it off. They are attempting to match the user friendliness of the iTouch/iPhone with the touch bezel interface.

I have probably the most complex setup for this watch that is possible. I have the HRM, footpod (so I can use it on a treadmill indoors) and the GSC-10 for my bike (a carryover from when I had the Forerunner 50 which does not have GPS). So far pairing and using the various ANT devices including the USB connection to the PC for data downloading has worked very well with no

Garmin Forerunner 405 GPS Enabled Sports Watch with USB ANT Stick - Black
At first, the wireless transfer seemed a little like bells
and whistles that I didn't really care about, but it's
turned out to be worse than that. I was hoping to replace
and Edge 305 with this device, so that I could use it more
easily for running. That device uses standand USB cables to
sync and charge the unit---I have them at work, at home, and
in my car. The 405, however, uses a custom charging clip
that I will wither have to carry with me or buy multiple copies
of it and dedicate USB ports to their use. If I lose it,
it is not widely available, and will likely mean I can't use
the device for a while.

Same problem with the ANT stick, which takes yet another USB
port to use. I have to carry this small, easily misplaced
$50 item along with the unit to use it elsewhere. And the
data transfer rate is dramatically lower than the Edge 305
version which uses USB.

Lastly, the MotionBased agent doesn't recognize the 405, so
I am stuck with the much slower and less functional Garmin
Connect.

The

Sony VAIO TP20E/W Desktop-VAIO TP20EW SFF T8100 2.1G 2GB SYST500GB BRDVDRW WVHP NVIDIA
I really like this product in every way but one.

I bought it to aggregate all of my digital music, pictures, and video with my television in my living room. It does all that and more (e.g. supports internet radio, internet TV, gives up to date sports scores, etc) with one important exception -- it is not "digital cable ready".

What that means is that you will not be able to get this thing to work with a digital cable tuner with a cableCARD. In otherwords, if you are getting digital cable with HD programming, and you plan to replace your set top box with this thing and a cableCARD, it won't fit the bill. It comes with an antenna that will enable you to receive the standard HD channels over the air (e.g. NBC, ABC, CBS, Fox, PBS...). You can also get regular cable through it. But not cableCARD based digital cable. I believe that in order to get cableCARD support, you have to upgrade to the TP25, which is a whopping $3000 (though I'm not 100% sure about that). Oddly, nowhere on the

Eye-Fi Wireless 2GB SD Memory Card
I am a techno-geek and am always looking for the newest gadget. A friend recommended this to me but I was quite skeptical. This is by far one of the cooler products that I have purchased. The annoying part of digital photography is what to do with all the pictures and how to get them into the computer, to the web and eventually printing the best of them. This little product does it all effortlessly. A one-time 10 minute set-up on the front end is all it takes to automate the process of moving your photos from your camera to your computer and eventually to the web (I use shutterfly, but you can upload to any photo site that is listed on their site). I highly recommend this product.

Samsung SPF-83V Digital Photo Frame-SPF-83V 8IN 64MB FL PERPSD/MMC/MS/XD/CF WIRELESS
A fairly clean-looking 8"-diagonal screen in a white 11.5" diagonal frame. The photos look good, and setup is easy. The WiFi option is nicely done, with an internal web browser in the frame to simply setup and management.

Pros:
- 4:3 aspect ratio fits most photographs much better than most 16:9 aspect ratio frames (I suppose those a numerous because portable DVD players have made the display components cheap).
- 800x600 pixels (most frames are 640x400)
- Adequate contrast for viewing in bright light.
- Setup for WiFi is easy with the 7 buttons on the back and the on-screen keyboard for entering WEP keys.
- Once WiFi is setup, access the frame via a web-browser (a screen shows IP-based URL, login name and password). From there, you can cut and paste RSS feed URLs from which photos are downloaded. (Note that appropriate other magic will be required for web access outside the local network, since it's an IP-based URL.)
- Flash card slots for large capacity
- Time-based on-off and alarm

SAMSUNG 5 DVD HM THEATER WI-FI XM READY NIC
I bought this system to use with my Samsung 61 inch TV(model A750)and am delighted with it. Aside from matching the TV perfectly, it is easy to set up, easy to use, and produces great sound. I feel like I am at the movies.

The wireless receiver for the rear speakers worked like a charm.

I offer the following suggestions:

1. To hook this system to your TV you will need both a video cable(I use an HDMI cable) and audio cable(I use a standard red and white cable). Neither cable comes with the system(which is the norm), so make sure you buy them.

2. Before using the system, press the menu button on the remote(your TV must be turned on), go to audio setup, and do the tone test to make sure that each of your speakers is working. Initially I did not insert one of the speaker wires enough, and did not get a sound.

IMPORTANT: The tone test will not work unless you use the Mode button on the remote control and choose Matrix as your setting. I learned this the hard way when I could not get tones

Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router
Six days after Amazon's 30 day return window expired, my Linksys WRT54G2 router died. I cannot recall the last time a product spontaneously quit working on me.

After more than 30 minutes, Linksys' customer service chat led me to an RMA process that was arduous at best. Much of the time was spent scrolling through pointless directions for uploading new firmware to a router where none of the ports were working. At least I got an RMA. For the effort, I might have been better off just paying for a new router and considering this a lost cause.

Follow-up: decided to cancel the RMA rather than paying money to ship the old unit back to Linksys and waiting for a replacement to come out of backorder.

Summary: poor product quality and poor customer service experience.

Sony Stereo Bluetooth Transmitter for Apple iPod
I recently picked up the Sony DR-BT21G/B Bluetooth Stereo Headset. My intentions were to use it as hands free for my cell and also to listen to music from my cell. After using it with two devices (Samsung Blackjack II and Sanyo Katayna DLX) I have come to the conclusion that the limiting factor in quality is definitely in the transmitting device. While phone conversations seemed equivalent in quality, there was a blatant gap in quality of audio between the two devices when it came to streaming MP3s. The Blackjack II provided a full rich sound where the DLX seemed to ignore several ranges of the audio leaving a very empty and lacking sound quality. Since I was disappointed by the sound quality on the DLX in addition to its poor organization of music and lack of video capability, I looked for a new solution...and found it.

The 32GB iPod Touch cured cancer, ended global warming, and created world peace. I will try to stay on topic here and not go on and on about how I love my iPod

ASUS Eee PC 900L 8.9" Sub-Notebook
I love the idea of the Asus Eee PC. I've long wanted a nearly full-featured laptop in this size.

So after reading so many positive reviews for this I decided to go ahead and get one. Sadly, after a mere two days playing with it, I have an RMA to get a refund.

So what's my gripe with it?

Several things. Firstly, though this machine has "20GB" of storage, its 20GB is spanning two storage devices, it's not a single drive. The formatted capacity here is 3.74GB for the main faster SSD that the OS runs from, and 15GB for the slower secondary storage.

I purchased this version and installed XP Pro on it (since the XP version only comes with 12GB). 4GB is simply too small. After installing and updating XP, there was just no room left to install any apps I wanted, even after cleaning up the drive.

Secondly, the touch pad and buttons. The touch pad is WAY too sensitive and finicky, frankly it's just terrible. Even knowing this and trying to carefully tap click, it would way too often instead
