I just got my acer aspire one in the mail last night. I have to say that im mighty impressed so far... I thought that it was going to be cool by some of the reviews that i had read it seemed like it was going to be good all around. Well i like it. I was going to buy the newer one, the saphire blue one with 160 gig.. ect. But the shipping time that amazon told me was like halloween or the week of.. If im going to spend the money to buy a new computer im going to get one right now not a month later... especially when i payed for overnight... lame.. this one seems like its going to fit all my needs. I will buy a bigger battery for it for sure when ever they drop in price.. i would imagine after christmas.. i havent had the time to see how it works on something like photoshop.. but i was downlaoding files at 158kbs on a p2p and then i wathced igor on watch movies .net and it played flawlessly..anyways you should definatley hop for the 6 cell battery. as it seems like a good thing to have.

I bought this little thing because I was headed to Europe for a little vacation and I had just enrolled in an online course. I wanted light weight and small and at just about 2lbs it fit very nicely in my backpack. I wanted something that started up quickly (average time so far is just 26 seconds plus another 15 to find and connect to wireless) so I was happy to have it running Linux. It really works well (so far) in fact now that I am home it sits on the kitchen counter so I can log on with my first cup of coffee and get my email.
Are there any dislikes? It does get a little warm and the keyboard is small but I don't touch type very fast anyway so no problem. I attached a mini USB mouse and that really helps as the touch pad is small too (although big enough, really). I even watched a movie I had loaded on my USB thumb drive and it was great!. So if you want a second computer to just have available whenever, its a good solution.

I bought this item for a specifc purpose and within hours of getting it I knew it was a great choice. A have to admit a friend who earns a living as a computer professional helped me decide. Right after I received it and took it to the place he, I, and other friends visit a lot he had to checked it out. Well, he ordered one right there and 3 others took down all the info and thought they would also order it. And let me tell you their purposes were different from mine. So it's a shame Amazon doesn't have a referral program for maybe some gift cards. This item is really nice. Just what I need to write short stories. My regular laptop, which I rarely use, is too heavy and bulky. The keyboard takes some getting use to but what new electronics don't. Bought the Kindle book reader same time and it's hard to put one down to pick up the other. Am not that smart about hardware. All I know is if it does what I want it's good. Software-wise I do lots of 3d graphics with many commercial programs.

I was really excited to buy a netbook and did a whole bunch of research before I bought the Eee pc 901. I love this computer and I can't imagine how I got by without it, but there are a few things I would like to say about it.
The profile is really small, which is awesome; but I do have to say (just like everybody else) that the keyboard bothers me a little. Let me preface this by saying that I didn't think I would mind and that I've gotten pretty used to it, but it still is a little bothersome to type on and I would have counted it as a bigger negative for the 901.
My battery life is amazing (5 hours easily with full functionality); the wireless card gets great range; the multi-touch touchpad is awesome and I already try to 2-finger scroll on every laptop I use.
I bought the 20G Linux one and right away wiped Linux and installed XP. XP boots quickly (1 minute-ish) and overall the experience is snappy (I did put in 2 gigs of ram). When I'm running Firefox with a ton of tabs, sometimes

I bought the Blue Acer Aspire One (XP version with 120 gigabyte HD) just as soon as one was available. Did not buy it from Amazon because the price was higher than a local retailer (Micro Center). Micro Center has dropped the price to the Acer suggested retail price of $349 (XP). I did see the Linux Version at Circuit City for $307. So far no real complaints except that the touch pad is difficult to work with and it is not very precise. Actually the buttons are awkward to use and it often "double-clicks" seemingly on it's own. I use a mouse now. So far I have not needed a DVD player since I usually rip my DVDs "for my own use" and load them via the USB port on a Jump Drive or use my card reader. I purchased a home version of MS Office and simply entered the code. No need for the DVD just the code and it worked seamlessly. As noted the exterior is very prone to smudges and I find myself cleaning the unit regularly. I did note that the fan noise is a little loud when used in a

I have had my eee for about a month now and really love it. The screen looks absolutely great. Native resolution is 1024x600, which is more than adequate for most stuff. The built in speakers are also surprisingly good. MP4 movies and MP3s play and sound great on this little guy. The keyboard is a reasonable size and very workable compared to the earlier versions of the eee. Network connectivity is good. It seems to connect to most Wifi hotspots very well. Although, it is slow making the initial connection. The power brick is also very lightweight which is a nice surprise. It comes with 1 Gig of Ram which should be more than adequate for most people. I upgraded to 2 gig with no issues. Also, the hard drive is solid state, no moving parts.
The OS uses Xandros Linux which is a Debian variant. The User Interface is not customizable unless you know a little bit about Linux or are willing to learn. If you do know a little about Linux, its pretty easy to tweak. All the tools you need for a

1. Tech support knows nothing about this laptop. They actually hung up on me.
2. The laptop cannot drive a large screen 1680x1050 external monitor when running linux. If you install windows XP it works fine. You are stuck with the default linux options unless you have the time to spend hours reading linux discussion boards to maybe find your solution (i don't think the discussion boards have figured out the VGA out issue yet with the xandros OS).
3. The 40GB solid state drive is actually an 8GB solid state drive with another, seperate, 32GB slow flash memory. I am constantly having to reduce the size of my "C:" drive in windows to keep it under 8GB.
I would buy the eee pc 1000HD with windows xp for $100 cheaper if I could do it over again.

I bought this laptop, Acer Aspire one 8.9" Mini Laptop, I like it so much, compared with MSI 10", this one the keyboard is much better for typing. And it looks so clean and cute and pretty. But only several days, the wireless sign was gone, couldn't find it anywhere, and the system also couldn't find it. I did the recover, and it's fine again. Then less then half a day after I did the recover, the wireless sign was gone again. I called Acer service center, and explained it to him, he told me to check step by step, then he said the laptop had problem, he suggested me to return it or replace it. Then when I was ready to pack it, the wireless came back itself again, so I kept it for one day, then the wireless was dissappeared again. Finally I call Amazon and told them this laptop's problem and hope they won't sell it to other customers after they receive it, hope they would send it to the Acer shop to fix that problem.

I really like Linux operating system.
I chose this laptop for long days at school and as a pair to my desktop.
Great for email, and internet..
This laptop for me was a good alternative to the high cost of owning a Macintosh.
My boyfriend explained to me that Linux and Mac OS are both Unix software based, so I got a great-looking, high quality, light-weight laptop comparable to a Mac Air for a lot less on the ticket price!!!
Granted the screen is smaller, but like the Mac Air this little guy only weighs 2 lbs.!
The keyboard is surprisingly spacious, and the screen is just right (any smaller would be too small)!!

I loved loved loved this lil guy for the first 6 weeks!!! I got the XP version. It connected easily to wireless networks, the camera works fine, I loaded Office 2007 and Photoshop Elements without a problem, and it even substituted for my desktop at work for a week when my co had mega-problems with Vista activation (don't ask). When I first got it, it held a charge fine for a couple of hours. Then this morning, it stopped charging at all. Worse, it won't even turn on for more than a few seconds before it dies, even when it's plugged in. I'm guessing it's a defective battery. Now I have to get hold of Acer's customer service. I tried their website and they sent back an email that I have to call a 1-800 number and "because the call volume is high, you may have to wait a while." I haven't tried yet, will probably give it a shot early tomorrow morning. Yeesh. VERY aggravating.

Great computer, runs windows xp pretty good.
I bought this thinking it was a 40gig SSD drive.. in fact it is 2 drives
It is a 8 gig SSD and another 32 gig drive which I don't think is a SSD drive because it is real slow. It acts like its USB flash memory. Everything runs great off of the 8 gig drive but if I run anything off of the 32 gig drive it seems to lag.
I'm returning it and getting a 80gig windows version and going to dual boot to kubunto. This way I can store most of my mp3s and some movies for traveling ;)

I bought this after a friend bought a 7" 4G in white. The extra screen size on the 900 definitely makes a difference to ease of use, but shifting the speakers to the underside has definitely muffled the sound and the bigger screen is hungrier on batteries. My eee 900 also has the low capacity 4400mAh battery which means battery life is adequate rather than good. I assume the cheap price I paid was down to this inferior battery being fitted rather than the specified 5800mAh battery. I understand from various threads on the internet that this was due to a fire at their battery factory. The mains adapter is much better than on the 7" eee. Instead of being a great lump that plugs into the socket with a trailing lead, the power block is a tiny unit with a Telefunken mains socket on the block. This means I can take the sorrect mains lead (US, UK or EU) when I travel rather than using an adapter. The neoprene sheath supplied with the eee 900 is perfect (nothing is supplied with the 4G)

This a great full featured laptop that you can always carry with you wherever you go. I am an IT guy and I love it - it has everything I need. When my wife saw this laptop, she had a very positive emotional reaction. The next day I caught her using :-) and loving it. She liked it so much (especially being able to carry it in her purse) that I decided to get her another (white) Eee. She now takes it everywhere she goes. She even got herself a bluetooth phone so that she can get online where no Wi-Fi networks are available.
One piece of advice to novice/first-time buyers - get a Linux version (Asus 901 20G). No worries about viruses (no need to install a slow and resource eating anti-virus/anti-everything software). The boot time of Linux version is truly amazing. Works right out of the box.
I have another friend who got it as well. He does a lot of blogging, browsing and email. He loves it. He switched from a Windows laptop and does not regret a thing.

I purchased the Eee PC 900 a few days ago and have had a chance to put it through its paces.
Simply put...out of the box it has a fantastic screen, easy to use touch pad and a very usable keyboard.
However, It is is a bit slow as configured out of the box (XP version). The great news is that there is a list of very simple, free tweaks that can be found easily using google that turns this into a fantastic, fast machine. It is now about as fast as my full size laptop. An amazing device. I stream lots of talk show audio and the speakers sound excellent for their size and placement.
The battery life on my machine was 2hr 20 minutes streaming audio and surfing the next with the screen brightness at 100%. Perfectly fine for my use.
I tried the Acer mini with the atom processor. It was fine...but I didn't like the form and style of the unit ( It is fatter than the Eee).
Get this machine...tweak it...and you are set.

EEE with Solid State Drive was my choice because I'm going to use it mostly in the car and public transport, instead of PDA.
After playing with default Linux-based system, tried to install XP to the second large SSD - it was too slow. Reinstalled to the first small one - works much faster, but failed to install the audio driver. Did not try the built-in camera, everything else works excellent.
Now I'm going to use it for navigation with a blutooth GPS receiver.

Despite the fact that people complain about this drive being slow, the fact remains that they all are using Windows. Windows, both XP and Vista have two factors that make this drive suck when used with Windows.
These are the following:
A. Windows has a ton of background processes that always are accessing the disk, such as the indexing service and system restore.
B. Windows uses NTFS, a dilapidated old filesystem that is very inefficient, and it's journaling doesn't suffice with these drives. It's probable that even SLC (the "faster" models) will still be just as slow as a result of running Windows.
That said, I, a Linux user am extremely impressed and satisfied. I formatted this drive with the ext3 filesystem, using the noatime, notail, data=writeback options, which speed things even more. I am getting insane amounts of speed out of this little guy. Boot speed hasn't changed, as I already had it optomized as much as possible, and all the time my boot takes is 11 seconds. It would be

This laptop is awesome for school!!! i can run Matlab, autocad, maple, office. great for any student that does not want to break his/her back.
One thing. The "hard drive" (okay, the flash ssd, you get the idea), anyways, the hard drive comes with XP installed on a NFTS partition, and it DOES run slow. The FIX for this is to format the hard drive as FAT32 and reinstall XP.
You will need a windows XP cd (not the recovery disk from asus) and if you have a external cd / dvd drive you can just boot the eeepc from the CD (press "Esc" a bunch of times on the start up screen, then select your dvd drive).
if you dont have one you will need a 1Gb at least flash drive. and follow these instruccions:
http://www.eeeguides.com/2007/11/installing-windows-xp-from-usb-thumb.html
once you get your flash drive with XP ready you must boot from it and push Esc and select to boot from flash drive and press '1', and every time after that press 2 until windows is finalized installing
This is for both methods,

Wow, love this laptop.
Bought it yesterday (in store not on amazon, but i figure i'd help you guys decide on it).
KEYBOARD, I can actually touch type on this keyboard, i tried out the EEEPC and it's keyboard is so small, you'd have to hunt and peck, i would get very frustrated after a few minutes.
SCREEN, is beautiful, it's big, it's bright, it's sharp. No graininess at all. I like the glossy screen, glares a bit, but looks sharp as hell. The size is perfect for viewing web pages, movies, and my favorite game: Jagged Alliance 2.
CASE, The build quality is great. The laptop feels solid, has a good heft to it without being heavy, and is sized well. The glossy case leads to fingerprints, but still looks great. I mean come on, even the iphone gets fingerprints on it, not a big concern in my book.
CAMERA, works great, picture quality is great, i was expecting a pixilated mess but it was clear and good enough for webcam video.
NOISE & HEAT, Not loud at all, had it transferring files,

I just received my Acer with Linux last night and it is amazing. The size, weight, speed and performance are up to par. The white color is not too bad and it does not show smudges as much compared to the blue or other colors.
Buy the linux version for several reasons. It loads faster. Less virus and "blue screen of deaths." It also helps to remove Microsofts monopoly power. But most of all, it is very easy to use. Yes, it is different but once you sit down and spend a few minutes looking around you will realize that it makes you life much easier.
This laptop is ideal for students, working professionals and Older folk who just want email and internet.
It is just so quiet, I could go on and on but I need to get back to work!

I own a small business, and when I go on vacation several times a year, I use GoToMyPc once a day to check in briefly with my office, put out any fires, assist an employee, etc.
I was sick and tired of dragging a large and heavy laptop through airports, and bot an Eee pc 901 last week, prior to an upcoming vacation.
I got the Windows XP model,as GoToMyPC requires XP. I'd rate it a 10, far exceeding my expectations. It is well made, really solid, and works perfectly right out of the box. I wish it had XP Pro rather than XP Home, but that's minor.
I removed MS Works and some unnecessary programs to save disk space, then installed Excel and Word. Internet Explorer 6.0 was on it, so I upgraded to I E 7 to get tabbed browsing.
Since it has no CD drive, I used a 160 gb Passport drive that I already had. Using my desktop PC, I copied several software CDs and the XP support DVD that comes with the Eee onto the passport, then used the Passport to install the programs I needed.
I wish it
