I researched HDTV's for over a year and after after careful consideration, I chose the 58" Panasonic Viera Plasma. I've had it for two weeks now and am very very happy with the set (and relieved). A relative has the 60" Pioneer Elite Kuro and paid $7000 for it. I can honestly say that my Panasonic is really close in picture quality to the Pioneer at more than half the price.
The set up is easy, sound is good and the picture quality is super.

I got this TV b/c cnet seemed to rave about it. I had a TH-50PX600U and that was a nice TV and I'm a big panasonic fan, but this TV I can definitely notice an improvement in quality from my cable HD channels, even though both are from the same 720p signal. In addition, watching Blu-Ray from this is beautiful (I'm using a PS3). I'm really happy with the purchase. One recommendation for anyone owning this TV is to use custom settings and not use the settings that are default.

However lets remember that the THX mode can be adjusted!!!! Panasonic's default settings for THX are just wrong. The CNET reviewer, using a completely dark room, adjusted the THX settings considerably upward from their default settings. Just for the sake of example - CNET increased the picture setting from 50 to 100 for their review.

Look at the picture & forget about the price, other reviews mentioned how much this TV cost, I will not. Why? Because, when your focus is to get the best TV out there the price should comes second. To me, this is the one. I watch this TV from about 13 feet away and have a direct TV DVR receiver connected by monster 1000 HDMI cable. Wow!
Here is a double Wow! Get the Panasonic Blue-ray Disc player DMP-BD30 will do and connect it to this TV set by HDMI connection, get the "planet earth" Blue-ray CD and you will experience audio/video Shock & Awe.
I am not bias to Panasonic, in fact the only Panasonic I ever purchased in my life was a panasonic wireless telephone, 6 years old and still going... So I figured the TV would be as durable, so far so good.
Hey, if price is the issue, an average person will keep a good TV set 5 to 7 years. Now divide the cost by the amount of years you think you will keep this TV. Got it?
Au revoir mes amis, I am going to watch TV

I recently purchased the panasonic th58pz800u from amazon for $3019, which I feel is very reasonable (The price has indeed fluctuated between $2899 and $3799 on amazon during the time I was shopping for it). Once ordered, the television was delivered in 3 business days (I'm in CA). Although the amazon website said it would be delivered "white glove", the delivery persons did not have that information. However, when we let them know that's what we were expecting, they willingly obliged by unpacking the t.v., placing it on it's stand, turned it on and left with all the packing materials. Pretty nice! Before purchasing this t.v. which I waited for a while before it was even available, I was considering the Pioneer pdp6020fd, which in my mind is the only other comparable plasma set, image quality and features wise. I opted for a plasma because I felt that it had the superior picture (contrast, colors, sharpness) over all the nicer lcd screens available (120hz sony xbr, samsung, toshiba)

Two months ago I bought a 52" LCD TV (not Panasonic) for my family room, so my grand kids could watch TV and play Xbox & Playstation 3 games. The TV was bought directly from Amazon and the shipping was free. When it got to my house over three weeks later, two men deliverd the TV and put it in my family room. They took it out of the box and set it up and pluged it in to make sure everything worked. (It did) They said the white glove service was on all TV's from Amazon. On 08/29/2008 I went to Amazon's web sight and bought my TH-58PZ800U ($2961.99) for my living room and the shipping was free too. My 58" Panasonic TV was actually bought from a partner company through Amazon, called Buy Now Inc., which still honored the free shipping. When the TV was delivered 09/11/2008 (in very good condition), it was only delivered by one man and it was a side walk delivery only. He saw I was disabled and was nice enough to bring it in through my front door and left it in my living room. I unpacked

When I first saw this unit on Amazon, it was $3499. After talking to my wife, I placed an order the next day and was surprised to find the price to be $2999. Two days after my order, the price went to $3699 and was no longer being shipped from Vann's. Mine was shipped from Vann's and arrived in perfect condition 4 days later.
Anyway, the TV is wonderful. I can't imagine getting a better picture from a TV. The colors are significantly richer and deeper than our other TV, a Samsung 42" LCD that's in our bedroom. The display and degree of color on the LCD, although vibrant, sometimes appear to be sightly unnatural and there doesn't seem to be a way (that I have found) to adjust it out.
The Panasonic color is very natural and there are several user friendly adjustments that make it easy to enhance picture clarity, hue and color.
I was pleasantly surprised to find that the set-up was straight forward and actually simple. There are on screen prompts that take the user through

i ordered from buynow.com and paid $2,961 w/free shipping and no tax. i ordered on 8/29 and the TV arrived in one week, which was well inside the promised delivery window. it is a nice TV with excellent picture and good sound. Set up was easy, but i have not yet hooked it to a home theater system. I had been watching panasonic plasma prices for a long time and was surprised to see them discount the 08 so quickly. i agree with the other reviewer that prices are fluctuating a lot for this item, so watch day-to-day. The delivery company contacted me in advance and arranged a 6 hour window which they held to. However, they only had a driver, so my wife had to help him haul in the TV. i would have at least one man (preferably two) at home to take delivery. I am very happy with my purchase.

This is just a heads up about pricing.
I placed my order for this television, from AMAZON, on 9/2/2008.
The price from AMAZON with FREE SHIPPING was $2,835.21.
Delivery time was 1 to 2 months. My order was confirmed by an email from Amazon at the stated price. Many days later this order is still active and I'm awaiting shipment.
However, prices are changing day by day. In fact, the day after I placed my order, Amazon increased their price by $500.00. That is quite a price increase in one day!
There are no reviews yet on this HDTV but its 50" sister - the Panasonic TH-50PZ800U - has received top reviews.
Don't pay too much for this set. This set is just starting to trickle into stores. I can't see why any consumer would pay any more than I have and I hope they will pay less.
PS: What is interesting is how carefully the other merchants listed on Amazon follow Amazon's lead on price. On the day I purchased this HDTV there were other merchants that were VERY close to Amazon's total

After doing a good deal of research I decided on this set and couldn't be happier with my decision. I've mounted it on the brick wall above my fireplace and the picture is just beautiful. No glare problems at all. It does put out a lot of heat and make sure you have a couple of strong friends to help you mount it but this is the best value I found. You can't go wrong with this set and the entire Amazon experience was outstanding. I notice that the price has dropped $50 since I bought mine so I need to figure out how to take Amazon up on their price guarantee.

Finaly decied to upgrade the bedroom TV. Since we'd be viewing approx 90% of the time in the dark, we decided on Plasma. I love their blacks (we have a Toshiba DLP and a Sony LCD and I don't think they compair to the "Movie Theatre" blacks of the Plasmas).
So I read my reiews and shopped abound. Decided on a 42" Panasonic 1080p from Costco. Got it set up on a swivel wall mount w/ the wires hidden in the wall. Looked really nice and picture was unreal. I don't know where they can go from here.
The problem we had was it was just too small. I measured our viewing distance at 16 ft.. So with further research, I discovered they recommend 70+" at this distance. Also, at this viewing distance the difference between 1080p and i is not detectable by the human eye (check out this chart- www.engadgethd.com/2006/12/09/1080p-charted-viewing-distance-to-screen-size/).
Luckly Costco has a "no questions asked" 90 day return policy (as well as a free 1 year extension on the warranty). Took it back and

So, at CES 2006, I saw the TV I Really wanted, It was a prototype, scheduled for Q1 2008: 1 000 000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, 30 000:1 static contrast ratio plasma.
The Blacks are black, the white are while, and no color echo with high motion ... Yes, it is what I wanted ...
So, I decided to start saving for the day a release. In Q2 2008, finally Samsung release it, 58" of awesome picture quality, went to fry's , look at it ... same awesome TV!!!! so, www.amazon.com, i order the TV, and dance for a week, waiting the beast to show up.
It finally arrives, the 1st of July. Wall mount it, it looks awesome ... buy a PS3, just for the Blueray play back, on the top of the PC I have too. It is all good!!!!!
The 4th a july comes, I have couple of my friends of the perf lab coming over, to enjoy the 4th of July.
During the after noon, we decided to watch one of those very "acide" movies, "the Onion" ... No brain required for this one, while we were enjoying the BBQ , sun was too hard to stay

I've had the PN58A550 FOR about a month now and overall I am very pleased.
Positive:
The value is very good on this TV. The picture quality is great. Setup option are more extenisive than most TV's. You can really dial in everything about the picture using regular menus. The overall finish on the TV is really nice. It has a piano gloss finish on the frame and stand that look really sharp. Samsung TV's used to have some of the worst menus ever but the one on this TV is really very good and intuative.
Negatives:
1) There are no S-Video or Composite connections on the back of the TV. There are 1 of each on the left side of the TV.
2) The picture "zoom" feature is just stupid. Sometimes when movies are letterboxed I like to zoom in and not see so much of the top&bottom bars. On the Samsung zoom doesn't zoom, it stretches the picture vertically so everything looks a little too tall.
3) The screen is pretty reflective. Other plasmas do a better job of cutting the glare.
Overall I'm really

I did extensive research on 50" and bigger plasma TV's. Based on my research I decided on Samsung. I ordered this 58" Samsung Plasma from Amazon because the pricing was more than $300 less than the least expensive local source, and included free shipping. This is a big heavy TV and I wasn't sure how I was going to pick it up if I bought it locally. The TV was delivered yesterday, a day earlier than originally estimated. The delivery service brought the TV in, unpackaged it, did a basic set up, and tested it to make sure it worked. The delivery guys were very careful and knew what they were doing. They offered to take the packaging away but I chose to hang on to it. I'm connected to cable with an HDMI connection and the picture on this TV is outstanding. I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

The TV itself is wonderful. Picture and color is good and I have also purchased the Samsung HT-Z515 to match the sound. With the HTS, the sound is alot better. Just the TV itself, the sound may be a little weak.
I've to mention that Eagle did a good delievry Job. Three Guy come and take care of the setup for me in 10 mintues.
I read a lot of review on how to take care of the Plasma burn-in problem. I followed the 100 hrs rule(Actually, I turned the TV on for more than 10 hours a day for 13 days with most of time just watching movie channels that without any statics logo) So far, I don't realize there is any problem.
A Plus for Amazon is that the TV price dropped twice within 30 days. And I did call and get refund for the difference! (within 30 days). I like that!

After 6 months of looking and comparing I decided on either the Samsung 52" series 550 LCD or this 58" series 550 plasma. I finally decided that size DID matter. Boy am I happy! The pix is fantastic, color and blacks are superb, according to the instructions (and reviews) it takes up to 2 hours of static pixels to have a threat of burn in (which I never foresee) so I couldn't be happier. Some have written about the sound, but my family can't find anything to complain about. When we watch something really important we use the BOSE Lifestyle Dolby 5.1 anyway. I read that plasmas put out heat which is true. When watching an evening of TV we have to use the ceiling fan in the great room when it's unnecessary in the rest of the house. But it's just the nature of the beast and it is 110 degreees outside. It has nothing to do with this unit.
The price was below Best Buy and Circuit City and Ultimate Electronics by $400 and they all wanted to charge another $150 to deliver the 90 miles I live

Very happy with this purchase. Great 1080p and much better than average digital/analog cable reception as my other two large format plasmas. Great sound from the downfacing hidden speakers. Good menus and set-up screens. The only reason for the 4 star rating is the location of the back connection panal (lower rear corner of TV), which makes for a easy hook-up, but can cause some issues with cables when using low-profile tilt mounts.

Panasonic has cured the only issue with this professional model, and that was the shortage of HDMI ports....the 10UK model had one (1), this model has two (2), and the new HDMI add-on modules have 2 ports now so you can easily upgrade this unit to 4 HDMI ports which is more than most people will ever need...I think!
This 50" 720p/1080i plasma panel is rated #1 by Consumer Reports, and is far superior to its closest competition which is Pioneer and Samsung. Right now this TV is a bargoon for people who plan to use a satellite tuner or cable box/DVR, and you will find the Split Screen/PIP feature to be a great option that is not included in Panasonic's 58PZ700U/1080p model for twice the money so thats a nice bonus.
Now a word about 720p vs. 1080p.... no argument here that 1080p is technically superior, but if you research the difference in these two formats you will find there is an "optimal" distance from the TV that allows you to enjoy and actually see the benefits of the 1080p picture.

I had my eyes set on the Pioneer 6010 or the 6020 but never pulled the trigger because it was over $4200.00. Then came the Samsung PN58A550. Had some good features and was very affordable. So much affordable that I ended up buying it from Amazon with their 12 months no monthly payment/no interest offer and had so much money left over that I bought a PS3 for Blu-Ray, a 5 year extended warranty, and a new sound system.
The carrier was Eagle and two guys unpacked the Samsung and they were in and in and out about 15 minutes. They did stay while I hooked up a HD-A35 player to the TV to check if it works. This TV is huge! I mounted it on a Salamander Triple Mount Stand and have it tilted down 7 degrees. It took 4 guys including me to mount the heavy thing. The TV faces a large window across the room but due to the TV at an angle there is barely any glare/reflection at all. Now if the TV was not tilted I would experience some glare/reflection. A550 doesn't have the best glare filter vs their
