CANON: The main reason I switched from Canon was the photo quality. I don't know if it's the technology or the internal software, but indoor pictures were inconsistent, and poor quality. The same picture taken seconds later at the same object, place, etc would look different. It would use the flash the first time, and not the second time?? I read books, blogs, everything. Changed the ISO until it quality broke down, nothing. Overall, pictures mostly turn out very dark or too bright with a flash. I did discover that this seems to be a recurring issue with canon point and shoot cameras as I found on amazon comments. Tired of owners manuals, ISO settings, etc, I began searching for a new camera, and accidentally ran into this camera in a store. I finally gave a U.S. camera company a chance, and it was worth it.

Background: I've owned about 4/5 digital cameras, and have experimented with many more. For the most part, I have bought the Canon series because of the look, weight, fairly ease of use, and very sturdy construction. However, as with most digital cameras (and technology as a whole) they have way to many features and little clear explanation of proper use.

Comment on previous comments about this camera:
-"the Kodak camera lense periodically "clicks" as it tries to adjust for lighting changes" I have not had this issue during the video mode. The camera will allow you to lock the focus if is an issue.
-"The battery and memory card Door [poor quality]" I will admit, this is the one thing I dislike about the camera. However, my last $350 canon battery door was no better. I've had no problems, and really don't expect I will.
-"The battery only lasted for about 30 minutes" My wife took over 100 10mp photos and uploaded it to our MacBook Pro with another day or two of power left over. Holds a great charge
"battery bay latch also very easily comes unhooked" Never happened once in the time I've owned it
-"horrible video HD playback on PC" HD playback is INCREDIBLE! However, you do need software (just like you need the right TV and DVD Player) to effectively play HD. If you have a Mac, you will love this camera and the HD video as the camera video is formated for quicktime. It also works flawlessly with iPhoto and iMovie. PC owners - you have an inferior machine which will continue to become more and more inferior as technology moves forward. That said, I've played the video on my old PC laptop (with a free pc version of quicktime) with equal quality (I was a pc owner for 20 years - and switched to Apple in 2007). However, I doubt you will not have any problem with this camera and a PC. I bought this camera instead of an $800 video camera to take extended videos of our first 3 month old son - and it works great. Video and photos in one easy to use package. Not sure why people still buy a camera for photos and a video camera for video. So many people I talk to still don't realize you can take video on most of todays cameras.

Pros: Really easy to use/great pictures - clear, well lit/great functionality/HD video/Clear settings/Touchscreen/info button explains how to setup for 4x6 photos, or whatever you want/very good light adjustment/Apple compatible/delete button offered on the screen right after you take the photo (if it's just a bad shot you don't want)/switches from view photos to take pictures simply by pressing the snapshot button halfway down - so simple!/solid feeling gunmetal construction/many other well thought out features

Cons:Battery door not the best construction/Battery must be charged while in the camera - no separate charger/camera has locked up twice - just remove battery for a sec and replace it - no photos lost - no big deal/only 3x's zoom - i have found it works fine for overall use.

inexpensive, but a decent picture and this fits the bill nicely.

Small downsides as well - the remote buttons could be bigger, as well as the on-screen prompts for setup (very small type). But these are minor points that don't detract from the overall value

Pentax glass is known for its color saturation and contrast, and this camera shows it off.

You can customize the functions of the wheels to a ridiculously convenient level - this can be any camera you want it to be. All in all, this is a real jewel, and the king of bang-for-the-buck.

Then to my surprise they set it on the stand, plugged it in and turned it on to make sure it worked. They suggested we keep the box in case there would be a problem and we would need it to ship it back. Well, I'm happy to report there are no problems.

There are windows across the wall opposite the TV and when the Florida sun shines in during the mornings we have to close the shades as there is some glare. I thought this might be an issue since this model doesn't have the matte screen like the Sony does. But after comparing pictures at the local stores I was sold on the Samsung because the picture is just so much more crystal clear. And it looks great at every angle. It's the best!!!!

are a little more grainy and sound not as good, but i think if I put it on a high def TV, the tz5 would win. The Video is not choppy and the colors are nice. The videos are large, but they can easily be converted to another format that is smaller. The zoom is slower than expected in video mode only, but compared to all other point and shoots that dont zoom at all in video, I think it is fine. There have been some comments about sound Quality here, and it had me worried, but I must say, that for 8bit mono, its not horrible. I would put the sound q at 3 stars, as long as your just recording dialog.

The amount of features are incredible. I used the auto slide show, and my kids really loved watching, on the television, the automatic slideshow it created complete. It comes complete with 5 different music styles and several transisiton effects. Its quick, easy and fun.
The other feature that is not talked about much is the burst mode. It takes a about 2 pictures a second for as long as you hold down the button. It also has a High speed burst mode that takes 2 megapixel shots at about 4 or 5 shots per second. It kinda makes a flip book effect. its incredibly fast.

The camera is easy to use and the menues are well thought out and easy. My wife took the camera the first day we owned it to disneyland without me, and she had no instructions on how to use it. She had no problems using the camera, and took some great pictures and videos. She stayed with the IA mode, and that did all the thinking for her and the pics look fantastic.

Dont forget to update to the latest Firmware. ver 1.2 at the time of this writing. My tz5 had 1.1 loaded from the factory. And as many have mentioned it had some auto focus problems in video and stills, that were corrected in 1.2. Check the panasonic site to update it.

The one drawback that I stated in the title is the USB connection. I cannot believe that they made it so slightly different that you cannot use a standard PC to camera cable - you need the one they supply. I hadn't tried downloading and I almost didn't take that cable on the trip since I have a standard one I used for everything! I would have been steaming! Bad Olympus!

source (via HDMI). The only time it will output 5.1 digital (or higher) is from an off-air coax connection. Lame eh? This hasn't hurt me because I can just hook them directly to my sound system, but I was hoping for a smaller cable mess.

Best picture quality hands down. It is very close to plasma TVs so don't get a plasma; they are heavy, dim, and have possible issues of fading (needs recharging) and screen-burn. Most Blurays (and other widescreen movies) don't come to you in a full 16:9 frame, which means there will be letterbox bars. This can damage a plasma screen, but you can leave an LCD on all day.

Canon Pixma MX850 Office All-In-One Printer (2436B002)

not found anything I don't like. I like having a front and rear tray for paper, the USB port on the front, the exit tray opening on it's own from a closed position when outputting paper, it's general quality, and it's heftiness. This is not light machine meant to wear out soon.

Can't say how it is for consumables. But the output is at least as good as what I expect for a printer of this type. The bottom line for me, though, is that it does what it is supposed to and it is very easy to make it do that job, both from the computer and by using only the button interface.

all range from horrible to slightly less horrible. I have optimum HD dual channel DVR box, which works great hooked up to my 6 year old Sony CRT TV. (HD channels look better on my old sony as well).

2)image blur with fast moving objects on the screen is VERY VISIBLE, and much worse than on my brothers 4 year old LG set. Don't believe the fast 5 ms image refresh. perhaps they get it under lab conditions, but in the real world, almost any fast moving image creates a visible blur. Forget about watching most sports or action movies. While thee blur is faint, it is almost always visible, and once you see it you will keep seeing it. It drives my wife and I nuts. Our first experience watching a movie was the Golden compass on blue ray (though HDMI). The scene where the little girl is riding a bear across the nice blue sky backgroung has approximately 1 cm of faint blur trailing behind her. The large fight scene towards the end of the movie was totally unwatchable due to all the trails. In fact, both from a blu ray source and on many channels, when the actors face moves slightly on the screen or when they talk, a faint blur tends to appear over the entire part of the face that moved.

3) Sound is pretty bad, but if you have a surround sound setup it shouldn't matter.

4) Not really a television problem, but more of a problem with the retailer. I purchased the set through Amazon from 6Avenue electronics, and when I called them to ask for a return, I was denied, saying they NEVER ACCEPT ANY RETURNS ON TVS LARGER THAN 32 INCHES. They referred me to a line buried in their 30 day return policy which stated that it does not apply to large telivisions. They said that once I bought it an accepted delivery it was my problem, and I would have to resolve any issues with the manufacturer. So beware when ordering from them. I guess customer service means nothing and I will never buy from them again. I am now stuck with a television which does not perform to the promised specifications and which I can not return. When I called Samsung, they offered to send a technician to my house, and said they will set me up with a local repair shop. They also said they don't think there is anything wrong with my set. It has been 3 days and no repair tech contacted me yet.

In conclusion, I would not recommend buying this television if you plan on watching sports or action movies on it, or if you don't have a surround sound system. And I especially would not recommend buying anything from 6th Avenue electronics. What a rip off....
