Before purchasing this set, I was somewhat concerned about the red cast of the "Touch of Color" bezel. I shouldn't have been. It's really quite subtle, almost unnoticeable, but gives just a hint of color interest to what otherwise would be a black monolith when the unit is powered off. And when it's turned on, well, let's just say that no one will be looking at the edges of the set!

I must give credit also to the tuner in this baby. While I generally watch HDTV (clear QAM) fed by my cable provider, I also get 26 strong, clean digital over-the-air channels (NTSC) using a medium-range boom antenna that I stashed out of sight in my attic back in the days of analog television. The transmitters for some of those stations are over 50 miles away, and my antenna is stationary (no rotor)!

My only real gripe about the normal television functionality is that the set has only one F connector (antenna) input. In order to have access to both cable QAM and over-the-air NTSC signals, I had to install an A/B switch (remote-controlled, which I bought from a popular neighborhood radio store) and then to skip the automatic channel scan in favor of tuning the cable and OTA stations separately).

If I were rating this set on the normal television features alone, I'd give it five starts (or more, if it were possible). However, there are a few flaws in this set. It is advertised as being DLNA-ready, and it is - sort of. The bad news is that it is currently compatible ONLY with the Samsung DLNA server software packaged with the set, which has rudimentary functionality at best. And it works over wired Ethernet only; forget about any kind of wireless setup. The RSS InfoLink does work over wireless, but the content is marginally useful. Meanwhile, the interactive content that is preloaded into the on-bard memory isn't anything to write home about, and the promise of being able to acquire more on line is yet to be fulfilled.

Despite those few disappointments, some of which I hope will be resolved someday, I am still in love with this set after three months. In my opinion, the picture quality exceeds that of some more expensive, higher end sets, and I can honestly recommend the entire series 7 line from Samsung to just about anyone looking for a great-looking, top-performing LCD.

PZ85U. To boot, the final price on the 650 was 50$ cheaper than what the salesman would give me the 85U for, so we got the Samsung.

Now that I have it home, here are some impressions...

Video - The digital tuner built into the set means you don't need a fancy box to receive over the air broadcasts after Feb. 2009. Oh yeah...the hi-def broadcasts out now over the air look fantastic on this set. One thing I have not yet had the chance to test is a separate HD video source since I don't have an HD dvd or Blu-Ray player, but I can say that the 480i my current DVD player puts out is pretty awesome looking on this TV as well. We fired up Ratatouille over the weekend...conveniently, the DVD comes with a set of test-patterns you can adjust the contrast, brightness, sharpness, and color with so I did the best I could prior to hitting play. All I can say is wow...the shadow detail was fantastic compared to my old tube and I thoroughly enjoyed watching the movie. I used the same settings to watch Sunday night football last night, and I tell you what, I don't know how I'm going to be able to watch standard definition sports anymore. No motion blur at all with this set, crystal clear and sharp pictures...the only distracting thing is that now I can tell when the cameras that are recording the action on the field are having problems focusing accurately. You literally see every detail with this TV set-up correctly.

Audio - This is the only area where I "ding" this set. Now...for most folks out there, this is going to be part of a Home Theater or entertainment system, so they will have a separate audio source, but for me, this TV is all I have (for now). The audio is by no means bad...it is just not as crisp and clear as I would have expected. The audio is a little muffled and maybe after some more tweaking of settings, it will get better, but if I had an entertainment center, I would certainly buy a separate speaker for the center channel and turn the one from the TV off.

Looks / Usability - Wow...this set looks great in the basement. The "Touch of Color" design is sleek, and it will look fantastic once it's mounted on the wall. The touch-pad power / channel / volume / menu are a sleek 21st century feature and give it a hint of class. The remote and settings you can access is very well laid out and intuitive. There is almost nothing you can't tweak. Samsung even gives you the ability to tweak the white balance over the RGB color scale without having to access a special menu through a remote sequence (basically these levels control how your TV is set-up to interpret colors from the video source). A nice feature that I don't recommend messing with unless you know what you're doing...being a part time photographer on the weekends, this is a welcome feature to get the absolute best color out of my TV.

The number of inputs on the back and side is more than ample...I don't ever know that I'll have 4 HDMI sources to input, but it's nice to know I can. There are 3 component video inputs as well, so unless you have like 5 gaming systems and 3 DVD players, you should be fine with the number of inputs.

Overall, I'm very happy with this TV, and would have no hesitation recommending it to anyone. If they made a 46" version, my neighbor would buy one too as his space does not allow a 50" set and he wants to maximize his screen. He's going to go with the Panasonic 85U, but after seeing my Samsung A650, he might be re-locating his space to be able to step up to a 50" TV.

I played with the remote which is a little big for a remote in my opinion and changed some settings. I ended up changing the audio settings in the tv. I was very impressed with the level audio sounds. Between tv and commercials the audio wasn't blasting and then getting lower. A feature which is huge if you actually watch tv. I do like the sound quality but it is lacking some bass depth in the sound. I have yet to test the features that are beyond extra like the link thing but I love the tv minus the noise when starting and shutting down. I mean come on Samsung Really???
Ultimately I am a junky when it comes to technology and as this goes I would 100% recommended this tv to anyone who wants an amazing 32" tv even without the 120hz (which is pointless unless you have a 40" and up)

Of course I wanted the largest size I could get. HD is a whole new ball game, and even a 52" model is not as big as it sounds. In fact after having this for a couple weeks now I am beyond relieved I didn't buy a smaller size. (I typically sit about 7 feet from the screen.). Please take my word on this. You will never regret buying too big. Unless you're in a tiny dorm room, the 52" will not overpower you. If you buy a smaller size just be warned you will be longing for the 52 before too long.

I went to 3 different big box stores to compare side by side. The picture on the 750 just blows away anything else in these stores. It's amazing how two sets with similar specs can have such different displays. The gloss finish just has the colors and contrast jumping off the screen. Sony makes solid products in general, but so does Samsung. It took only a matter of seconds to realize that the Sony 41 series has a boring picture compared to the 750.

4. Plasma or LCD?

With the glossy screen and various black adjustments in the menu, you're getting the best of both worlds with the 750. It has contrast like that of a higher end plasma, but also performs beautifully in a well lit room. Plasmas are just plain dim and dull. With how bright and vivid the 750's screen is, I have not had any issues with reflections. If you look at the models offered by most companies, it's clear that plasma is dying just as DLP is.

5. The "halo effect"

Non-existant. I've watched HD cable, games, and blu-rays in a pitch black room and cannot see the supposed halo that some people are whining about. In fact, I'm almost disappointed because I wanted to see what the hubbub was all about. Apparently Samsung has eliminated this.

6. Amazon or a partner seller?

Local big box stores sell this unit for (including tax) anywhere from $500 - $800+ more. Insane. I knew I'd be ordering it from Amazon. But sometimes the partner sellers are cheaper...what to do. It just so happened that the day I ordered it Amazon had the lowest price. But had they not, I still would have paid the extra small price difference to get it from Amazon. I have no experience with the partner sellers but felt I'd have more recourse with Amazon if a problem occurred.

7. Gaming performance

I also bought a PS3 and Xbox 360 at the same time. Both are stunning, and nope, no input lag on either system using very inexpensive HDMI 1.3 cables. (However, I've read of people's feedback on the a650 where they have experienced lag. This is where the superior processor of the 750 comes in). I've played fast-paced shooters, racing, and adventure games with no lag issues. I may have had a minor lag issue with SOF on the 360 but that could just be the game. Games on the 52a750 will have you hypnotized, especially if it's your first foray into HD.

8. Sound

Could care less. I'm using a home theater system, but with the 750's woofer I'm sure the sound is good/great for a flat panel unit.

9. Light and glare from the glossy finish

Has not been an issue for me. At all.

10. Final thoughts

Comcast HD (via Motorola box), PS3 Blu-Ray, PS3 games, Xbox 360 games all look incredible. I sometimes watch content that I'd otherwise be bored with just because of the gorgeous picture. Plasma has nothing on the a750 and gaming is lag-free via HDMI. Buy this TV and your friends (especially those owning plasmas) will be envious if not outright jealous.

from literally any side of the room. Its just a fantastic tv. After going to circuit city, best buy to see the tv in person, I was convinced from the start that this is the tv I wanted. I just couldn't settle for anything less knowing there was so much to offer in the samsung ln46A650. the touch of red is pretty nice and it goes well with our carpetting as well as wall.

After your convinced that samsung is the way to go, now you have to decide between the A650, A550, and A750.

The 550 has a lower contrast ratio and the price difference was not much and the A750 was 300 dollars more, but you don't get much in return. If you check amazon, amazon lists the difference between the up/down graded models and you see the list of differences. Stick with A650 and you should be pleased with your choice.

Now I didn't even consider Sony, it was just too much and I didn't like the looks of the TV itself. Seemed to bulky. The Samsung has a much more sleeker look and so even when people are over, they will notice the beauty of it whether the tv is on or off. And like I said..i love the touch of red...it is a nice touch.

Now why did I get this tv? Two things: 1-PS3 (games and blue ray movies), and 2-Sports.

This is where you really want a tv that can show itself in 120Hz. I only use it for sports and games. If you use it for movies, it looks way to real in the sense that its like they are making a movie and you are watching it outside your back door window. Almost gives you a 3d image that is just too awkward for me to watch and enjoy. So maybe if you don't play games or watch sports, then having a tv with 120Hz is not really that big of a deal (at least to me). You can probably settle for the A550 which I believe doesn't have 120Hz, only 60Hz.

Anyhow I hope this helps, and you cant go wrong with Amazon's deals and free shipping.

Don't worry, when they ship you your tv, they don't just leave it on your front porch, there is an exclusive shipping company that contacts you for a good day that they can come and deliver it and they will leave only with a signature.

person to check for myself (I whole-heartedly agreed). The TV looks stellar with more clarity than my previous 42" Dell plasma, which had a great picture, but died. Also, Samsung is listed at the top in television reliability, which is important to me based on my last large TV purchase (Dell was dead last in reliability and no longer makes TV's!!!). No more glare than my Dell plasma and my living room is surrounded by windows on the East and North sides. Glare is not an issue with this TV as it is so bright and vibrant. The value for the money is great too! I spent about $2500 for my 42" Dell just over 2 years ago, and this 52" TV was more than $500 cheaper! I ordered the wireless adapter from Amazon that is to provide sports/weather/news information feed from USA Today but have not yet received it. Do yourself a favor and order this TV from Amazon.

many-buttoned Samsung TV remote. (Our second Blu-ray disk displayed an irksome "Bonus View' box, but a quick Google search led me to a button sequence--Popup Menu/Info/Popup Menu--to make it go away.)

The TV speakers are great. Perhaps down the road we'll add a speaker system , but in our not-so-big living room the TV sound seems plenty good enough.

We've got lots of windows and sunlight, but the screen of this Samsung is fine even in full daylight. The touch-of-red is subtle, and the overall look is sleek and elegant.

We waited a long time to replace our 1991 Panasonic Prism 19" TV, and did a lot of reading of reviews. You won't want to wait as long as we did to get this great TV.

It's like a nice touch....very slick and don't bother you at all..no glaring. When you're watching the TV...you're not looking at it. I like the red touch because it makes the TV look unique.

This TV also allowed you to play files off of the PC. Some of the video files don't work because of wrong video size or incompatible with sound...i hope they come out with an update to fix this issue. They should allow you to play ANY FILES regardless of the size of the video or the sound it incorporated.

I have read on this and other sites stating Samsung is aware of this issue and fixes are in order. The halo doesn't really bother me. The clarity, life like quality of this TV won all my attention that I don't even notice the halo even at night with all light turn off. Samsung is great in customer service. I have already contacted service and a tech is going to come to my house to replace the bezel once he got the part. Even with the current bezel, I am still a happy customer.

Yes, it would be nice to have the swivel base as on the 650 but this TV is so light that I can easily move it aside when I needed to connect or disconnect from the back.

The transparency of this TV also may be mistakenly to be its' weakness. I noticed video signal trailing the audio signal (lip-synch) on a couple DVD but not HD or analog TV program. I contacted OPPO and found out there is a firmware update for that player. After installed the latest firmware, the issue went away. Others have reported audio signal trailing video signal. But I wonder if it is due to the other associates equipments. This TV is so transparent; it truly reproduces what feeds into it.

Here are the good parts.

Sounding of this TV is top notch. Of cause it cannot compares to any half decent home theater system but it beat out my two channel stereo speaker. When I first hooked up the Samsung Blue Ray BP1500, I assumed it would default to 5.1 audio with the optical connection as with Yamaha DVD and OPPO players. I end up watched Iron Man with TV speakers. After help from member of AVSFORUM, I found out the setting for sound and video on that player.

Picture quality is absolutely breath taking. It is like an excellent, well set up Hi-End two channels audio system. You can hear, in this case, see the depth, color, and detail so vividly, life like. Before I received Blu-ray discs, I was watching old DVD, original and back up copies with my OPPO player. All the movies were like watching the first time since I have never seen such outstanding picture quality. (I have Sony rear projection LCD and watched many times on my brothers' Philips and Mitsubishi 1080 LCD) I couldn't detect the big different between the back up and original DVD on the OPPO. It would partially due to the edge enhancement of the Faroudja's Directional Correlational Deinterlacing processing. The OPPO player would smooth out edges and enhance imperfection on DVD. Not so the BP1500. With the BP1500, a poorly recorded DVD would clearly detect on 24Fs setting but not on lower setting. With back up DVD, I actually prefer watching the good old OPPO player but the BP1500 would provide much better 3D like image and higher contrast and detail pictures with original DVD and Blu-ray discs. BP1500 is a good match and a winner from Samsung.

I am so happy with the TV. The choice on 750 over the 650 is validated again when guests and family members enjoyed those preinstalled programs on the content section. The sounding of the 750 over the 650 is easily worth the extra $50+ I would save if I purchased the 650. I haven't had a chance to use the USB or the DLNA yet.

The new 850 is thinner and the 950 is surely more advance. I don't even want to check spec and watching those TV since I just can't dump another few thousands to upgrade associated equipments.

With the current pricing and value provided by this 750, I would buy another one if any TV in my house needed replacement.

auto motion, do I spend less and not worry about this feature or pay a little extra to have the latest technology out there in terms of LCD's? Well since I'm a gamer and I like watching sports, I opted to go with
the 120hz. At first, right out the box, the TV's settings have the 120hz on medium. The motion looked really awkward to me, since
I'm not used to the 120hz motion flow (my previous TV being a 720p 32" LCD mind you). The great thing I noticed when going through the picture options is that you can customize the settings to be off, low, medium, high, etc. So in other words, you can ease yourself in to the 120hz motion by starting off on low and turn it up when you feel you're ready for it. In my opinion, it looks great on the low setting.

Other great features include: electrostatic touch sensitive controls on the TV bezel (adds to the sleek design), many picture adjustment options, ease of navigating menus, really nice remote with backlighting, great sound produced by the built-in down-firing speakers, ultra fast response time for gaming, info link to display RSS feeds such as weather and news (just connect it with a ethernet cable to your router / wireless option available), and swivel stand (for those of you that are not wall mounting this bad boy).

One last thing that is important to note, Amazon's delivery service exceeded my expectations! When I purchased the TV I was quoted by the automated system on receiving the item in like 7 business days. I may have been lucky or Amazon is just good like this, but I actually got the TV in 3 business days!!! The delivery service called me the day before it was delivered to confirm a time to deliver the TV. Once the delivery got to my house, they called me to let me know they were here! The box was brought up to my house in a perfect condition box. If you're like me, even so the product may be good inside, but I hate boxes that look like they were beat up in transit. All in all, GREAT SERVICE!

auto motion, do I spend less and not worry about this feature or pay a little extra to have the latest technology out there in terms of LCD's? Well since I'm a gamer and I like watching sports, I opted to go with

the 120hz. At first, right out the box, the TV's settings have the 120hz on medium. The motion looked really awkward to me, since

I'm not used to the 120hz motion flow (my previous TV being a 720p 32" LCD mind you). The great thing I noticed when going through the picture options is that you can customize the settings to be off, low, medium, high, etc. So in other words, you can ease yourself in to the 120hz motion by starting off on low and turn it up when you feel you're ready for it. In my opinion, it looks great on the low setting.



Other great features include: electrostatic touch sensitive controls on the TV bezel (adds to the sleek design), many picture adjustment options, ease of navigating menus, really nice remote with backlighting, great sound produced by the built-in down-firing speakers, ultra fast response time for gaming, info link to display RSS feeds such as weather and news (just connect it with a ethernet cable to your router / wireless option available), and swivel stand (for those of you that are not wall mounting this bad boy).



One last thing that is important to note, Amazon's delivery service exceeded my expectations! When I purchased the TV I was quoted by the automated system on receiving the item in like 7 business days.
