Sony BRAVIA 40" 1080p 120Hz Flat-Panel LCD HDTV
I bought this KDL-40W4100 a few weeks ago. It looks awesome when using HDMI inputs. But of course looks even worse than a regular TV when viewing non-HD sources (as with any HDTV). My two real complaints are:
there are only 2 audio outputs from the TV: optical digital and stereo RCA-jacks. This will only support 2 external speakers (not center or surround sound). Bummer, as the TV's tiny speakers are quite lame.
And problem #2 is: the base stand that came with the TV is not level! Ridiculous! This precision-engineered widescreen HDTV now sits 1/4" higher on one side because the stand isn't level! So now I have to put a pad of Post-It notes under the left side.
Overall, this is a nice TV, but I'm still disappointed.

Samsung 40" 1080p 120Hz Flat-Panel LCD HDTV
This TV is absolutely incredible! I don't have much more to say then what's already been said here, but I'll do my best.

I was trying to decide between this model and the series 6, and ended up with this one because of the built-in subwoofer. I'm glad I did because the sound is definitely excellent! It's not quite surround sound, but the simulated surround sound is still impressive.

One of the grea things about this TV is that it works so well right out of the box! I went to a friend's place and he has a 52" Bravia, but the picture was only 1/2 or 1/3 of the screen most of the time whereas the picture fills my screen like 95% of the time. I went home and watched the same show I was watching at his place at my place and the quality was significantly better on my TV (and we live in the same building, so it's the same cable). On his TV there were lines and it looked like a CRT, whereas mine was a lot cleaner and, while it wasn't very clear because the broadcast itself sucked, it was smoother

Sony BRAVIA 42" 1080p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV
We've had one now for about two weeks and the shakedown period is close to over with it and we've been very happy with this choice. It took quite a while to finally make a decision to dump our 27" Sony Trinitron for a new fangled LCD TV as the thing still sounds and looks good after 17 years!

But that was two weeks ago and now that I'm use to seeing everything (especially good is text) on 42 inches of LCD, I'd never go back. The term "Wow" is an understatement. Yeah, I've seen big LCD TV's in bars and restaurants but until you've got one in the quiet of your own home, you just don't know the difference.

Here's the Pro's and Con's of this 42" Sony V-series TV:

Pros:
* Exterior design is very attractive. I like the piano black frame and front part of the stand. Very classy. The gray sound bar on the front and the gray on the back part of the stand are nice accents but don't detract from the main color.
* Setup was very easy. I pulled the TV out of the box (we bought ours from a Big Box

Bravia 40 Z Series LCD Flat Panel HDTV 120Hz Silver
I have been using an old 27 inch Zenith for over 6 years and the color was really starting to bleed so I started looking into lcd tv's and found the sony KDL-40Z4100/B and was very impressed with the features that it offered. I spent at least a month researching tvs but still came back the the sony. The sony tv was a bit more than the others but my parents have a 52" JVC HD-ILA tv and this I feel is no comparison to mine now. I find myself watching the HD stations the majority of the time but am also very impressed at the regular channels. I really like the slim bezel design, it helps give the tv a lighter foot print.

Samsung 40" 1080p 120Hz Flat-Panel LCD HDTV
After months of research and evaluation, my decision came down to this TV or the 50" Samsung Plasma. In the end, with some reservation, I bought the LCD because:
* I didn't really want a 50" screen
* Still some internet posts complaining about screen problems on plasma...it just seems like the technology is fading, even though I'd preferred the screen.

So far I'm pretty happy with this LCD TV. A few quibbles (I'm using component cables):
* Even with the 120hz refresh rate, it seems TW Cable is only sending a 60hz signal. Not sure if this was money wasted over the 550 model...I guess it will depend on when TW Cable adds 120hz broadcasts. (Note: this might also be a shortcoming of the component cable. HDMI cables are on order and if those provide 120hz throughput, I'll update this review.)

* So at 60hz it can still be difficult to watch Law & Order, with all the camera movement. The TV CANNOT keep up when the whole screen moves. A character moving across a fixed background, no problem.

Samsung 40" 1080p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV
I used a variety of sources to determine which 40" LCD Television would best meet our needs and our budget. Prior to the research, I was focused on an adequately satisfying viewing experience in a very reliable television. A previous purchase had not satisfied both goals. I had bought a "no-name" product for which no local service was available. When it failed (two years), I packaged and shipped the product to a repair facility where it was repaired well and with a reasonably short turnaround. Still, I didn't want that grief again.

Nor did I wish to gamble again on the offerings of the local Sam's Club shelves that appeared to be "earlier versions" in every case. I was going to indulge myself in a current model of a name brand television.

Consumer Reports gave its highest 40" LCD rating to the Samsung LN40A550, and the purchasers' ratings at Amazon.com and other Internet vendors were entirely positive. My son-in-law's experience with high dollar electronics buys from Amazon.com

Samsung 40" 1080p 120Hz Flat-Panel LCD HDTV
This was my 1st LCD TV purchase and I chose Samsung because I had just purchased a Home Theatre system from them and wanted it all to work together. I am not a techie person and was worried about getting compatible components with the TV.

White Glove Delivery: Delivery was on-time and I had my choice of a 4-hr. window to schedule. I chose 4pm-8pm. Delivery men took it out of the box, set it up and autoprogrammed channels and just handed over the remote. Picture and sound quality are excellent. I did very little tweaking to the factory settings.

I hooked up my Samsung Home Theatre System to the TV and they work together beautifully with the AnyNet system via "Tools" menu. Menus are easy to follow and the instruction book is helpful and intuitive. I was worried about the TVs frame reflecting light on the walls as I have read about here on other reviews, but I have yet to notice any lights "dancing." The TV comes with a LOT of extras that I will never use, but it is nice to have

Sony BRAVIA 42" 1080p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV
I owned the 1080i version of this model (no longer available here on Amazon, so I'm reviewing here). Everything was great...incredible picture and sound...for about 7 months. Then it started turning itself off randomly...it would just turn off, then come back on about 5 seconds later. Sometimes it would do this about once a week, then it would go on a spree and shut off 10 times in 30 minutes. Sony customer service was USELESS...at their prompting I spent hours rewiring the thing in different configurations to see if it was the cable or DVR causing the issue, and never had it get better. Finally it shut off, never to come back on. It was 13 months after I bought it...1 month after warranty, and even though I'd been working with them for months on it, Sony has taken the stance that the warranty has expired(!). I take it to a local shop and they say the main motherboard is fried, $800 to fix. I cough up the $800 and it works...for 3.5 months. Then the thing blows a gasket, crackling

Samsung 40" Class 1080p 120Hz Flat-Panel LCD HDTV
I picked up this TV from Circuit City just before Labor Day. It is basically the same spec-wise as the 650 series. The only differences are 1 less HDMI port (3 instead of 4), a contrast ration of 40,000:1 rather than 50,000:1 and no infolink. For those who don't know, Infolink allows you to hook up the internet to the back of your tv via an ethernet jack. You are then able to pull up news, weather, and stock info from USA Today. This is all it lets you do though. Infolink does not allow you to download firmware, view web pages or anything like that. This is a great TV. 120Hz is amazing. It almost make it seem like the characters are right there in the room with you when you are watching blu-ray movies. The quality picture is great, the menu system looks nice and is easy to use, and for those who like lots of control over picture settings, to get their picture just right, this tv has a ton of different adjustable setting options, allowing you to adjust the backlight level, the black

Samsung 40" 1080p 120Hz Flat-Panel LCD HDTV
Excellent picture quality. Some reflection of light from windows or lighting fixtures during dark scenes, but I have not found it to be annoying. Speakers have rattled slightly at high volume. I have not found a way to add titles (such as NBC, ESPN, etc.) to channel listings. No swivel stand. Operation of the touch wheel on the remote can be tricky at times. Overall, however, I am very pleased with the quality of this TV!

Bravia 40 Z Series LCD Flat Panel HDTV 120Hz Silver
I was looking for a 40" LCD and narrowed it down to the Sony 40Z4100, Sony 40XBR4, and Samsung LN40A750... I've previously owned a 46" Samsung LN-T4665F and a Samsung LN-T3253H so naturally I wanted to go back to Samsung. The picture on the 750 is amazing but side by side, in multiple stores, I just couldn't take my eyes off the Sony LCDs. I then was stuck between the Sony 40XBR4 and the 40Z4100...
I had my heart set on the XBR4 since it was Sony's top of the line product last year, but when I saw that this years 40" XBR6 and XBR7 were going to have identical specs to the Z4100, (granted Contrast Ratio will probably be higher on the XBR's,) it came down to the simple question of:

Do I want to spend $2500+ on the new XBR or $1700+ on the Z4100??

I have to say I'm extremely happy with my decision to save a few bucks and go with the Z-series. The picture quality is breathtaking in both HD and Blu-Ray. Standard TV is top notch as well but I'm blown away with the detail, color, and overall

Sony BRAVIA 42" 1080p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV
Pros:
Sony reliability (ignore angry reviewer)
No reflections on screen
4 HDMI ports
Nice looking package, neat see through glass
Excellant picture from any HDMI source
Great menu's

Cons:
No 120Hz
Stand is difficult to get perfectly straight
No Surround pass-thru over optical in/out

Comments:
Don't worry about the 120Hz/24p stuff for blu-ray, they look great without it. I would consider the 120Hz if you happen do read a lot of scrolling text. Buy a blu-ray player, and buy all your cables online at a tenth the price.

Samsung 40" 1080p 120Hz Flat-Panel LCD HDTV
After having done much research and product comparisons, as well as going to stores and actually comparing the difference in picture quality between the different television set-ups. I came to purchase this TV through Amazon. I purchased it through here because I got it cheaper than I could find anywhere else and with free white glove delivery. I was in all honesty a bit skeptical about the delivery service at the time, but they showed up when scheduled to and helped me take the TV out of the box and place it where it needed to be. They also took the box away for me.

Picture quality:
Full HD is 1080p, which is this TV's native resolution. And let me tell you, the quality of the picture is obvious even for someone who does not care much about it, or just doesn't know much about it. My Dad was instantly impressed when he came to visit me (and he isn't one for technology). Also, the contrast ratio on this TV is just about as good as it gets without going to Plasma or the LCD technology

Sony BRAVIA 42" 1080p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV
A great set for the living room, well worth the money. The Sony "V" series of LCD sets have all the same features as the more expensive "W" series sets, with the exception that the "V" series sets don't have the 120hz motion enhancer feature or the logo illumination feature. I think the average viewer won't notice the difference.

Sony BRAVIA 40" 1080p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV
I purchased this TV and the price was good and the delivery was good too. The picture is clear. One complain I have is that it takes like 20 seconds to view the screen after I press the power button. I don't know if it is because i do not have HD transmission but I doubt it because I have a 32" Sharp Aquos and it takes just five seconds to display something on the screen. I may have to check with the Sony website.
In general i am satisfied but i dont think it should take 20 seconds to display something on the screen.

Sony BRAVIA 40" 1080p 120Hz Flat-Panel LCD HDTV
I just bought it last week. And it was amazing how the picture and color and everything! It was delivered by CEVA and very much on time. The driver carried the TV upstairs to my apartment with me and carefully placed it on the stand. After I have tested and everything looked ok, and after I have signed the paperwork, he waited there in patience. Watched the rest the of the Olympics in excitement.

Great Experience! Highly recommend!

Sony BRAVIA 40" 1080p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV
Good while it lasted. Purchased the unit new from Amazon and received it on Jun 1, 2008. After almost 3 months of problem free service the unit completely lost the picture. Unit will power on but no picture. After troubleshooting with SONY had the option of exchanging with refurb unit or have local service repair it. Took the path of the local Sony Authorized service thinking this would be the least hassle. A week latter after the service company picked up the unit I still have no status on the repair only it has been assigned to a service tech and if parts are required another 5-8 days.

All this would have to happen during the Olympic! Not too excited about the Sony brand at this time.

Bravia 40 Z Series LCD Flat Panel HDTV 120Hz Silver
Was time to replace my 36" Sony XBR tube with a new HDTV set but had a specific space limitation due to the existing TV cabinet - had to fit something inside just over 39". Looked at the Samsung 650 and was leaning heavily that way but was concerned that the size was just too tight for my opening (even with some adjustments) and the glossy screen was a concern given lots of natural light in the room.

Was then looking to the "W" series when I found the "Z" - a bit more, but it was definately smaller (the exact same width as my 36" XBR tube set) and I liked the DLNA options.

The reason for 4 vs 5 stars is the fact that using the DLNA feature has not been easy thus far. There are little to no instructions with the set for this and I've tried three DLNA-compatible Media Servers (four if you count Windows Media Player). I finally was able to access pics from my PC by using the SimpleCenter media center but I've not been able to get the TV to realize that audio is also being shared by SimpleCenter.

Samsung 40" 1080p 120Hz Flat-Panel LCD HDTV
I've had this TV for about a month now, all I can say is I have no regrets about this purchase. Of course after heavy researching, it came down to this TV based on what I was particularly looking for - form and function. I realized the new TVs Samsung has coming out, but I didn't want to wait for them to be released and then wait again for it to become affordable, so this was the best. Having a previous Samsung SlimFit TV did sway me to stick with the brand as that TV was beautiful (but TOO heavy).

The pluses and minus:

- BEAUTIFUL
The red finish that borders around the TV is sleek and subtle (and matches the red accents in my living room, PLUS!). Please note that the red on the 650 version is only on the top and bottom, which looked a little odd for me. The 650 also has that (what I considered super ugly) oval shaped stand compared to the rectangle here.

- USB INPUT and DLNA
I can watch movies I save onto a USB that I plug into the TV. And with DLNA, I can just attach a LAN cable to
