This TV is nice looking, compact and light weight, but it has a significant drawback. We brought the TV for use in our kitchen. Since we have no cable outlet in the kitchen, we rely on rabbit ear antennas. We live in an area where over-the-air digital reception is very good. The old analog TV, used with a digital converter box, brought in about 20 digital channels. This new Sharp TV, used in exactly the same location in the kitchen, could not bring in a single digital channel. When we contacted Sharp about the problem, the customer assistance stated the internal receiver was probably too weak. The Sharp internal receiver is definitely weaker than our digital converter box. If you do not have a cable connection, this TV might not be the one for you. We returned it.

Having moved across country temporarily to find the furnished apartment furnished with an ancient tiny TV, I set myself the task of finding an affordable interim replacement. My "real" TV is a larger sized LCD Samsung and I have been very happy with it for the last two years, so I was not hesitant to get another Samsung, especially with the good reviews of this model. I was not disappointed! This TV has a beautiful picture. It is crisp, clear, responsive (for video games), and has great color.
The sound, oddly enough, is much better than my bigger Samsung. Perhaps Samsung has inconsistent speaker quality? I noticed some other reviewers complaining about the speakers, but I really find the sound quality to be quite clear and rich for such a small TV. Makes me think if I were to buy another and got crappy sound, I'd either return the TV or have Samsung fix it.
I've noticed that the menu options and firmware, while closely resembling those of my older TV, are in fact much improved. The channel

Got this TV and thought the video features were great...but the sound was awful - very "tinny" sounding speakers. Sounded like a bad Nextel phone! Could not even add external speakers because there is no audio output jack - only optical digital outputs. We bought this to use in our kitchen, and have no room to hook up a surround system. We don't want that just to watch the news, etc., so the TV went back.

I decided to return this Sony Bravia TV- immediately after reading the install instructions and before plugging it in. The reason? Sony's ridiculous solution and instructions for making sure the TV doesn't fall over if one chooses not to hang it on the wall and, instead, chooses their second choice of trying to prop it up on a flat surface with the stupidly tiny prop they provide with the 19" Bravia. Their "safety" instructions for using their silly little prop say to drill holes in my fine furniture on which it will sit and to screw the tiny prop down to the furniture. They also suggest you attach a cord to the top back of the TV and tie the cord to a hook screwed into the wall behind it. How dumb is that??? You tell me. I originally decided to buy a lightweight, 19" LCD HDTV so that I could pick it up and move it around the house if and when I chose to. That silly, tiny prop is the dumbest idea I've seen in a long, long time. I've long admired and purchased Sony products for

As most here have said, this TV is great.
There is one problem though and I spoke with Sharp tech. support and their response was "that's the way it is and there is no fix." Also, this my second unit and they are both the same way so it was not a fluke.
The issue is volume (and it may not be an issue for others). When using the TV the volume is more than enough, but playing a DVD movie the volume is only about 1/2 of what the TV volume is. This is an issue for me because I will be using this TV in an RV and when the A/C is running you'll need to turn the volume all the way up to hear it. Other than that, this is a great TV!

I have to enter a caveat for my review upfront--we're a minimal technology family tv-wise--we just watch VHS and DVD. We had to upgrade from a 13-inch picture-tube tv from the early 90s, though!! This tv fit the bill. We're really happy with the crisp picture, the sound, and the size of the screen vs. how much room it takes up--a lot of picture for a little footprint. We have a bigger screen Sony elsewhere in the house, and the kids seem to prefer this one. A terrific buy from Amazon!

I was hesitant to buy this TV mainly, believe it or not, because of the sticker problem some others had after purchasing their TV's. Apparently, there were enough complaints that Samsung has done away with that sticker completely, thank goodness. Or maybe I just got lucky. I bought this for use as a bedroom television and it's got a great picture even simply hooked up to basic cable. Sound is wonderful, but as I said, it's a bedroom TV, so it doesn't need to be very loud. I'm very pleased with this purchase.

I only wish I would have purchased this Samsung 19" HDTV sooner. After my small analog kitchen TV "bit the dust" last winter, I convinced myself I really did not need a kitchen TV. WRONG....that is where I am most of the time while everyone else is visiting and watching the games, poor me. lol... Well any way, my husband and I looked at every 10" HDTV on the market and finally selected this Samsung. Perfect choice!!! It is clear, sharp, with excellent sound that completes the package. It fits perfectly under my kitchen cupboards...no glare from anywhere. Love this product, if I needed another TV, this would be the "go to" TV. You will NOT be disappointed.

I have had this TV for two weeks. It is a superb unit. It connected to a cablebox using an HDMI cable. I purchased the set to use in a bedroom and to take with me to show videos that I use to assit me in teaching. It weighs only 12 pounds and can be moved easily from place to place. The HD picture is superb. I found that the factory setting for sharpness was too intense. I reset it to 20 to make the picture softer. The non-HD picture was good but not equal to the HD picture quality. The sound is good. It has automatic volume control to keep the sound constant during the ads. I really like that feature. It also has an earphone jack. I found that my Bose noise canceling headphones ("Q3's) produced an annoying hum. However, my non noise canceling headphones worked just fine. The progressive scan DVD player is outstanding. The THX version of "Raiders of the Lost Ark" was superb. It will play movies on DVD-R discs. I use imovie and idvd to edit my home movies. The DVD played

We were looking for a small 19 to 22 inch LCD for the bedroom. The Samsung had good reviews both here and at CR. Yes, the picture is great. BUT the sound isn't up to par even for a small TV. The stand is a pain to adjust. You are to put the TV face down on something, press against the back, push a button, and swivel the stand into place. (Bizarre.) Then there's the sticker. Who would put a gooey sticker on the frame of a TV? Well, Samsung seems to think it's a great idea. Peel the sticker off and you're left with a sticky residue on the plastic frame. You'll need Oops to remove it, I'm told. (Bizarre, again.) And then there's the tiny little buttons on the front-facing right frame. Accidentally touch the side of the TV to adjust the position and you will likely hit a button and get a menu appearing on the screen.

I got this television today and as soon as I turned it on noticed how terrible it sounded. The picture was great, but I couldn't get around the tinny sound that made to tv seem loud no matter how I lowered the volume. I tried manipulating and could not find a decent setting. It's the equivalent of nails on a chalkboard. I generally like Toshiba products so I was very disappointed with this television and am sending it back tomorrow morning. If you care at all about how your television sounds, do not buy this TV.

This is a pretty good TV. It looks nice and has good features. The sounds is great. The delay time when changing channels is better than on my other flat-screen TV. The picture quality is very good -- that is when you are right in front of the TV. Once you go to the side or lower than the screen, the picture QUICKLY fades to black. I got this TV for my bathroom & mounted it on the wall. I frequently cannot see the picture -- fortunately since I am not really watching TV for any length of time in the bathroom, it is not a huge issue for me. However, you want this for a bedroom, make sure you will be viewing from eye-level, directly to the front of the screen otherwise you may not be happy with this set.

I think this tv is fantastic. The order came pretty quick, and it was free delivery, and the quality of the picture is beautiful. I am now forever in love with HDTV, the colors in the picture are just awesome and amazing.

We purchased this TV to take camping for my special needs daughter. We run it off of a generator and it helps her when she gets stressed out. It is compact enough to transport and yet big enough that the picture quality is great. The DVD players works fine and was very easy to operate.

I bought this product last week. I wanted a name brand, and this was the best deal. Some sets this size and price don't have HDMI, or have only one input. The picture is fine I don't have a problem with the sound- it's what you expect from small speakers.
I got this to replace a small CRT. There are 2 HDMI inputs, plus the 5 wire color-coded input from a cable box, which is what I'm using. Add to that analog PC input, S-video, RCA and audio input from a PC. If you want to use this as a computer monitor, be aware the screen does not tilt.
This would be a good TV for a dorm room, which is where it may end up if my daughter gets her hands on it!

This TV is definitely below average in every way. It is clear ViewSonic intends to cut cost wherever possible. The screen cannot be tilted. Thus, if you setup your TV high up on a shelf, the screen dims considerably because of the viewing angle. The electronics of this set is SLOW. You soon realize that when it takes perhaps 5 minutes to autoscan the available channels. When you use the up and down buttons to change channels, the tuner "waits" for half a second, then the screen blanks for another half a second before the new channel pops up on the screen. If you like to flip through the channels, this set will frustrate you. The speakers are weak and the sound has no body. There is little difference between 50% and 100% volume levels. Even the included batteries for the remote are cheap carbon batteries instead of the normal alkalines.

I purchased this product from Amazon in July. Out of the box it was broken. The tv did not get any audio on certain channels. One channel had the video of one picture and the audio from another. I sent it back and got a replacement. BIG MISTAKE. The second one arrived. It worked great for about a month. Then BAM - same problem. On some channels, no audio, mixed audio/video on the same channel as before. Plus, on some channels the audio levels rise and lower for no apparent reason -- so one minute it's fine and then the next thing you know the tv is so loud it makes you jump.
Amazon is not standing by this and will only offer me a partial refund since I called 3 days after their return policy ran out. I now have had to call Samsung and will have to bring it to a service center for repair. Be careful buying tv's from Amazon since they do not stand by the quality of the merchandise they sell. THIS TV IS DEFECTIVE AND SHOULD BE RECALLED.

My mom needed a replacement TV for her kitchen, had to fit in a fairly small space, so this is the biggest that would fit. The most important thing was that it include a tuner, so it can take a straight cable feed with no box. Also that it do a good job with plain old standard definition, which is what is watched 99% of the time.
This TV is excellent! SD picture is fantastic! HD looks good (I've never seen an HD picture that looks really bad, have you?). Only complaint, slight "glow" around the edges when a black screen is displayed. Mom doesn't notice and does not care, for her its perfect.
Tuner did a good job of finding all cable signals (including the strange 80.1, 80.2, etc channels). But it was also smart enough to go back and DELETE all the ones that are scrambled. So even though the setup takes a while, when you are done, its all set, and you don't have to manually delete scrambled channels, very clever.
Remote control is basic and functional. Nothing fancy, and nothing fancy

This tv is beautiful and easy to set up.The worst of it is that it's best viewed when fully vertical, and the prop in the back isn't long enough for that, so I needed a piece of wood under it to raise it. It doesn't have its verticality worked out - unless you mount it on a wall. It has outlets and inlets for seemingly any device, and suggests hookups. It's been a daily part of my life for a month, and it's beautiful, and easy to control and hook up. I would highly recommend it.

All 19 inch HDTV's regardless of brand have a 16:10 aspect ratio.
This is because 19 inch computer monitors are 16:10 and they out number televisions by the billions.
To keep the cost down TV makers buy the same LCD panels made for computer monitors. Unless you would pay $1000 for a 19 inch set, I doubt any company will ever custom order a 16:9 panel for television manufacture.
A lot of these TV's can be set to 16:9. There will be a small black bar on the right and left edges since the panel is wider. But a lot of people hate the black bar, so there you go..
The reviewer here who was returning the TV because of this "defect" will be sadly disapointed when he buys a new 19 inch set and discovers it is also 16:10
