Sony KDL-52XBR6 52" BRAVIA XBR® LCD Flat Panel HDTV

Previous Setup: Sony Wega 36 + basic cable for locals / direct tv for everything else + tivo + Bose Lifestyle 1-2 System for sound.

Current Setup: Sony 52XBr6 + direct tv dvr (dual channel) for everything including local channels + Bose Lifestyle 1-2 System for sound + Ethernet connection to the direct tv dvr for on demand service. Upgrading the satellite dish for HD capability also got us a dish that could handle local signals.

Yet to do for setup: Use the network features of the set and add a blue ray player. Since we rarely used the dvd or vhs that were connected to the Sony Wega, a blue ray is a low priority. We will probably never use the tv for playing games.

Delivery: Oustanding. Ordered through Amazon and received the set in 5 business days. One notice from Amazon when the set shipped and would be at my house, and one notice from the delivery company about delivery time. I did nothing but open the door for the delivery folks. They took care of the unpacking and setting

I own 46" XBR6 for about 3 weeks now, I use this as a monitor from time to time and find primary colors somewhat inaccurate. Though I have to say this display does provide POP people ask for. I have not played any blu-ray movies so can't comment on that but pretty sure it would look great. Black levels are much better than I expected from an LCD. Even SDTV feed from cable looks better than expected but not for all programming so I can firmly say that upconversion process is pretty good. I did not see any motion blur while watching football. My initial comment about non-accurate color is more evident when you have another TV/monitor side by side (i have 21" NEC Professional series CRT next to my 46XBR6), otherwise it would be hard to tell for most people as my wife and friends were not able to see inaccurate primary colors until i turned my NEC.

We expected to be blown away by the Sony XBR6, especially since so many people rank it even with or better than the Samsung 750. And the picture is great - when you get all the adjustments fine tuned. The Steelers trouncing of the Browns game was gorgeous! We highly recommend it but with a few cautions:

- Not the set for the "set it and forget it" type. Many adjustments required but it is beautiful when you get done.
- Sound. We heard many complaints about the sound from LCD sets so picked the XBR6 specifically because it has an internal subwoofer. But we found the subwoofer made little difference even when set to maximum, especially if you put the TV in a cabinet where the sound gets trapped inside. We fixed this by hooking up an external powered subwoofer to the sound output jacks on the rear of the set. Made a phenomenal difference - I highly recommend this if you can't use a surround sound receiver. And you can't do it on the Samsung (see below).
- Network upgrades. Features

I really love this TV! I compared it to the Samsung, which had some higher revews, but when I saw them side-by-side, I really liked this better. The setup was intuitive, and my jaw dropped when I saw the Blu-Ray picture on it. I was happy with the HD feed, but the Blu-Rays take it to the next level. Love the four HDMI inputs, too -- need them!

After looking for an HDTV for quite a while, it became clear that the XBR was the way to go. Nobody beat Amazon on price plus free delivery. Unfortunately, as far as the delivery is concerned, you get what you pay for. I ordered the TV and then about the time the delivery was to have occurred, it didn't. I contacted Amazon- who were very responsive and they then contacted the delivery company and were told that they had been trying to contact me (not true) to arrange a time and day. I then contacted them directly and scheduled the "white glove" delivery. By the way, white glove must mean a filthy truck, a giant dirty box dragged across your floor onto a carpet leaving dirt everywhere and no unpacking or removal of box or set up. One guy, one truck, dragging a giant box.

Now, the good news is that the TV is spectacular and a breeze to set up even for a complete technophobe like me. Also worth mentioning is that Amazon lowered the price the day after I ordered the TV and they refunded

I have had this now for a little over two weeks, and am blown away by the picture quality. The reviewer who complained about only one rf antenna input needs to get a new set top box from the cable company or change to a new provider. I am subscribed to Verizon FIOS in the Maryland suburbs, and their set top box for HD has multiple outputs including an HDMI. This TV has multiple inputs, including a single RF input for off the air or cable; three older yellow, red and white types; two component inputs, 4 HDMI inputs plus a PC and DMeX input. This should cover everyone's needs. The remote will control up to 4 devices including Verizon's STB, and you can program it tell you what device you are connecting.

Overall, I was pleased with the white glove delivery. The CEVA company out of Odenton said they would deliver it between 10 and 3, but the driver didn't arrive until 5. In his defense, he said that this was the last of his 22 appointments for that day. He came in and helped to move

This is exactly what I wanted in my first flat screen purchase. I did months of homework and read all of the reviews and it basically came down to this one and the Samsung A 650, and although the Samsung is a great choice it wasn't good for me because of the SIGNIFICANT glare and reflection of the glass face-plate. I have a room that gets alot of sun so this was very important. If you get any light on the tv at all the glare is very distracting. With the Sony you hardly notice it. The Sony is gorgeous and my wife thanks me for buying it everytime we watch it. Also to get the colors right I would suggest going to [...] and reading their review and settign the colors up like they did, it really looks amazing.

I recall that years ago an episode of The Jetsons had an image of George reading the newspaper on a wall sized video monitor. The image has stuck with me despite my feeling that it wouldn't ever happen; there's something about sitting in a relaxing chair and reading the paper that goes unmatched with reading the paper on a computer monitor. But the primary difference is actually the chair. Who has a comfy reading chair in front of their computer?

Sony's HDTV's have, in the last few years, crossed over from being only worthy as a television monitor to having qualities comparable to the best computer monitors. Their XBR2 series, which I just replaced, allowed for some crossover activities, but I was never particularly pleased with using that TV for computing activities.

So now here we have a 52" HDTV/Computer monitor, and while I realize that none of you are actually thinking of buying this to be your primary computer screen, quite a number of you will, I suspect, eventually use it as

The picture on this set is the most remarkable I have ever seen and I have been watching television since 1939. It does have one strange problem. When connected to Time Warner cable in New York City, the sound goes off for a few seconds at irregular intervals - it could be once every five minutes or it could be once an hour. If the same HDMI input is used for the Blu Ray player there is no problem. Nor is there a problem if the Time Warner box is connected to a 22 inch Sony High definition set. Sony has no idea what to do.

I purchased this TV with the silver bezel from Amazon and have had it for a few days now. I looked at various LCDs from Sony, Samsung and Sharp and decided on the Sony based on the picture quality and also the design (I also read many reviews online especially at Amazon). The picture is great so far, watched NFL this past weekend and felt like I was sitting in the stands. The design with the small silver bezel is what really attracted me to the TV much nicer than the shiny black or even reddish colored bezels from Samsung (that is just my personal opinion). The small bezel does not attract away from the picture while watching the TV I found this was not the case with the Samsungs which had very nice pictures but tended to reflect light and glare from the bezels. The price and service from Amazon were very good took about a week to get once it shipped and I was able to track it. The shipping co. was very good with delivery, scheduling and carrying into the house. So I definately recommend

This TV set meets all my expectations in terms of video and sound quality. I subscribe to all 5 star reviews here. I haven't noticed any clouding or mura effect so far.

A few minor things to mention:

- the remote is a little long for my taste but it has everything it needs on it, even backlighting. Sometimes you need two hands to handle it which makes me look like my grandpa trying to find the keys on the remote.

- shipping company Manna, called to reschedule the delivery time and date at the time when they were supposed to knock at the door. Good thing it came in perfect condition.

- the TV is kind of hard to take out of the box, other brands have the fancy box that opens sideways. Sony, when you take it out you need to place it on the pedestal right away. You wouldn't want to put it on the floor sitting on the speakers which are directly attached to a glass panel.

This is a great product. No buyer's remorse here.

Oh, I almost forgot: Power consumption is a lot less than the 225W

The non-HD picture quality is surprisingly good. I had heard that with HDTV's there is a lowering of the quality of the normal picture viewing. This is not the case with this TV. The colors are especially accurate.

The XBR is more or less the "Mercedes" of the TV industry, while everyone else compares their product to the Sony, it remains the pinnacle of the LCD game. I looked at both the Samsung and the Sony, both were spectacular. In fact, Samsung makes the screen for the Sony, so it makes sense they are the same. Bottom line, there is simply more "coolness" to the Sony name.

The TV is great, but Amazon's white glove shipping stinks. I bought the product, and it sat on several docks for days, finally got through to the shipper, scheduled for Saturday. But guess what? no TV. Have to schedule multiple times - I guess free shipping implies "worthless". The drivers are late, never call back, and all you get is an answering service. I would have bought this product somewhere else if I had known....

I'm not a tech geek but did a lot of research, looked at quite a few TV's in stores and read many reviews. I was mostly comparing Sony & Samsung but also took a look at Toshiba. In fact, I had pretty much decided on Samsung and then had a change of mind. These brands all have some good quality sets.
I chose this Sony because the previous (non-HD) Sony TV we had was still working great after 10 years with no problem and I felt more comfortable with their reliability ratings in Consumer Reports. Another reason, like others here on Amazon is the less reflective screen. I had decided to go with a "W" series Sony with the 120hz motion enhancer but decided to upgrade to the "Z" series when a really hot price came out. When I purchased it, the Z was only $100 more than the W series TV and was $1000 below the list price, which turned out to be $500 less than the popular local big box department store. Plus free shipping, no sales tax and white glove delivery. The Z series has a couple of upgrades

I must say, colors pop out on this set like nothing I've seen before. They're extremely vibrant, amplififed by the 50,000:1 contrast ratio which makes for deep blacks. In a pitch dark room, the black levels nearly blend in with the surrounding environment. This is important to me since my viewing area is very dark with no ambient lighting.

Sound, for me, is not important on a TV since I have a home theater system. I imagine most people buying such a big, expensive set are in the same boat. I have listened to the speakers and I must say there's nothing special about them IMO. They're not big enough to put out much bass. I just took down my 8 year old 35" Trinitron CRT and I hear no improvement on sound quality. If you're planning on buying this TV and don't have a home theater system, I'd suggest looking into one.

One of the only cons I can see so far is what another reviewer called "mura", or slightly cloudy areas on the screen when it's completely black. I only notice this when

I purchased a Sony 46XBR6 from Amazon.com Sony wins hands down on Value, and Quality, over other brands.
The TV that I am replacing is a Sony (18 yrs of service and still works very good). Amazon.com is the best to deal with, not only the best price
but they sell quality items.I received my XBR in 5 days, the Free White Glove Delivery via Pilot Freight was the Best Service I ever had,They delivered to my home, ask what room did I want the Sony in.The driver offered to un-pack it. Amazon is most Honest, during shipping there was a price drop, I called customer service and within one minute they adjusted my purchase price, emailed me a credit for the lower price. And they have real live people to talk to.Very Happy with Sony and Amazon.com,"I will be back"

I got this TV a little bit over a month ago and have put in about 100 hours of viewing I would guesstimate. After that time I would say the TV has an incredible picture. Some people said the color variation was a little off but I haven't seen this. I did setup the custom picture setting by using the THX video optimizer included with newer pixar movies and star wars films. This made a big difference in overall picture quality and was very easy to do. The brightness of this display is impressive even when first turned on. The CCFL backlight seems to come to full brightness very quickly and evenly distributes the brightness extremely well. Color representation appears to be dead on with all types of media (cable, blu-ray, dvd, ps3, xbox). The motion plus feature is great when watching sports but can cause some juddering effects while watching non-sport content. The response time for video games is also a plus with no visible judders but this is with game mode turned on. The tv really

I'm very happy with this purchase. I've read other owners' responses on various web sites, and I think that people don't realize the many issues that affect picture quality including inconsistent broadcasts and many picture settings.

The Sony Bravia KDL-40Z4100 comes with several picture modes: Standard, Vivid, Cinema, and Custom. Each of these can be customized with settings for contrast, brightness, color saturation, color temperature, backlight adjustment, noise reduction, and some advanced settings which amongst other things include options to use the wide gamut color space to take advantage of the 10-bit color. I recommend leaving all of these picture modes at the factory settings except the Custom mode which you can experiment with. Each mode has a Reset option so you can restore the factory defaults if you've mucked anything up.

The commentators at cnet.com and others pretty much parrot each other that the manufacturers deliberately deliver the TV's with gaudy color settings

Can't beat a SONY TV for picture or sound quality. I've been in the market a long time, waiting for the XBR6 to fall in price (not ready to fork out money for an XBR8 quite yet) and the second it fell below 1500, it was a steal. I challenge anyone to find an LCD with a clearer, crisper picture and with a better sound quiality. You won't find it! FANTASTIC and Amazon's white glove service was amazing and efficient!

I have always purchased Sony televisions because of their quality and the reliability. The Sony Bravia XBR KDL-46 from the quality perspective is as good as it gets. Crystal clear HI DEF and the non-HI DEF shows an amazing improvement also. Obviously, I cannot comment on the reliability at this point but the Sony it replaced was 25 years old and fault free. A word of caution in choosing your service provider. Make sure that they do not interfere with the functionality of your television. Specifically, your PIP capabilities. My new cable provider has helped me around this problem (thanks to the multiple inputs of the TV) but it is still not to the perfection it should be. I could not be happier with Amazon, the set arrived as scheduled, undamaged with the "White Glove" handler very helpful and courteous. By the way, the price I paid was cheaper than the manufacturer and all the big-name electronics stores.
