HP Pavilion tx2510us Tablet PC-Turion X2 ZM-80, 12.1 3072MB
I bought this laptop to have a portable but full featured complement to my 17" laptop and am generally quite satisfied with it.

Here's a summary of the pros and cons:

Pro's

Small form factor

Although the touch screen support makes the lid somewhat bulky and heavy for a device of this size, the overall small footprint still makes it ideal for carrying around unless you have an absolute aversion to weight.

Touch Screen

Unlike previous models, this one supports both active and passive touch meaning that for simple things like pushing buttons you can use your fingers but for fine drawing you can use the included stylus (which fits into a handy slot in the laptop). I have used both options and especially like the ability to bring up a program like Photoshop and rather than having to touch up photos using the mouse, be able to directly do it on the screen with high precision. I would love to see more applications designed to be driven completely by fingers as well.

Fit and Finish

Toshiba PSLC0U-02C01G Satellite L305D-S5904 15.4" Notebook
I purchased this as a gift for my mother. I am pleasantly surprised with this laptop, but I expected to be. Toshiba is one of three PC laptop brands that I would buy. This is based on past experience.

The first thing I noticed was how light this laptop is. Compared to other current model laptops, it may or may not be considered light by some. Compared to the laptop it replaced, it is a featherweight.

For the most part, it is very sturdy and feels solid in your hands. I would like a little more stiffness in the keyboard response though. I am not a soft typist and I tend to pound on the keyboard. The trackpad is flush with the surface of the handrests, which takes some getting used to. It is hard to find without looking first. After a few uses, I plugged in my USB mouse, which is more compfortable anyway.

My biggest complaint is the number of trial apps that this laptop came with. I understand that the reason for the inexpensive price is because of all the additional software

HP Pavilion tx2510us Tablet PC-Turion X2 ZM-80, 12.1 3072MB
In a nutshell, this was my first ever AMD-based PC. But I can guarantee that it will be the last. It will also likely be my last HP laptop.

When I was on the lookout for a tablet PC, the HP TX-1000 stood out like a Christmas tree in terms of the price. It was less than half of any other tablet PC on the market. So even though HP has absolutely no pedigree in creating tablets (and I'll tell you why shortly) the price alone made for a compelling reason to consider it. The more I looked at it, the more attracted I got to it. Add to that situation the fact that I had very recently acquired an HP desktop, which had totally blown me away with its presentation (especially over Dell). It was so much better (in every possible way) than Dell - at a cheaper price that I started thinking that it was possible that sometimes you did get more than you paid for. I thought HP had once again finally arrived as a serious player in the PC arena.

And then came this HP laptop, very rudely yanking me into

Toshiba PSLD8U-00G001 Satellite L355-S7831 17.0" Notebook
I bought this computer for my father in law. I chose it because of the huge hard drive for a laptop(250GB), the 2.0 GHz Intel Pentium Dual Core Processors, and the 17" widescreen and full keyboard (has the numbers to the right). At my house we are a Mac family, but my father in law is 75 and has only known windows so we decided to purchase a pc for him. For the price, we got an awesome computer. It has the same processors as my 20"imac, and for half the price.

The only cons I have with this laptop is that:
(a) it's a pc (we just love macs)
(b) it runs on Vista (at least it's premium edition).

Other than that, if your looking for a lot of computer for a little money, then this is it!

My father in law only uses it to surf the web, check email, and look at pictures of the family we send. So for him, it works out perfect.

Toshiba PSLB8U-002003 Satellite L305-S5902 15.4" Notebook
Though I loved my previous laptop and used it with no complaints since November 2003, I feel like I was a caterpillar and now I'm a butterfly, using my new Toshiba L305D-S5581! Well, okay, I did have a complaint about how long it took my old PC to boot up and shut down, and was thrilled with my new Toshiba's faster accomplishments of those routine operations. I had expected slower instead of faster, due to VISTA and the additional programs which would be on the new laptop. I had XP on my old laptop. I like both versions of MS Windows OS, and can see the advantages of each, but VISTA is definitely the butterfly.

Even though many reviews have made what appear to have been valid complaints about products with the specifications this Toshiba (and other brands) has, I have not had any of those difficulties, and indeed have felt like wings have replaced my previously grounded slow motion.

I was foremost looking for a machine with at least 3 GB of SDRAM, and at least 200 GB HD. The choice

DELL STUDIO 15 NOTEBOOK- Graphite Grey with Black Trim Glossy, widescreen 15.4 inch display , Intel® CoreTM 2 Duo T5750 2.00GHz, Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 , 2 GB DDR2, 160 GB SATA HD, CD
Twenty hours over two weeks with Dell support and others and the computer (Studio 15 1536) is on its way back to Dell. New HP printer would not print via USB, HP and Dell could not solve the issue. Bought a Dell printer upon recommendation from Dell. This printer would not print from USB, even after hours of remote support from Dell. In the eleventh hour, Dell wanted one more try after Dell assisted in removing all biz software and files prior to return (F8 option to restore to factory image not available). I appreciate it - but I am not getting paid to debug Dell's computers. Indeed, I paid for a computer that worked, i.e., could print. If a Dell computer cannot print as shipped, then don't ship it. If the problem is a known problem, then let the consumer know immediately - not after numerous phone calls, disconnects, purchases of new Dell equipment, software upgrades, etc. Dell should not use its customer base as test pilots. While I have bought numerous Dell computers (at least

Toshiba Qosmio F55-Q504 Intel Core 2 Duo P7350 2.0GHz Notebook
Pros:
Great graphics (will play Crysis on High detail at 1024x768) 9700M GTS with 512meg dedicated memory
Great looking display - colors look great
Great sound (even has a subwoofer)
Looks cool (shiny with lights and chrome)
Comes with polishing cloth!!
External SATA
USB ports on the back and both sides
Built in GPS
Nice sized keyboard
Nice rough textured touchpad
HDMI hookup for a TV
lighted volume and media controls are handy
Nice sized keyboard
Can choose 32bit Vista or 64bit Vista (both if you have a 2nd hard drive to load up)

Cons:
No built in bluetooth (despite what the web entry says)
Shiny surface shows fingerprints

I primarily bought this as a gaming machine to play games that was below $2000. I was very pleased with the level of graphics performance for the price. It seems with a laptop that you are stuck with the video graphics it come with (unlike a PC where you can upgrade). The Nvidia 9700M GTS was perfect for my needs. It outperforms the graphics on Alienware machines

HP TouchSmart All-In-One Desktop with Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T5750 - Piano Black/Espresso
I got my Touchsmart about six weeks ago and like it pretty well. It is easy for my kids to use, which is one of the main reasons we got it. I also use it for our main TV just because its on the right level and easy to use there. One day the channel kept changing and we didn't know what was going on until my seven-year-old realized there was a fly walking around on the screen! No complaints about the sensitivity of the touch screen :) The biggest problem I've had with it is the TV tuner connector. I connected the coaxial cable to it and it never seemed to fit right, and it kept getting fuzzy because I couldn't connect it correctly. Eventually the TV tuner connectin piece broke lose out of the machine and was hanging by a wire out of the computer. It seems as if a piece is loose, or they need to include an adaptor that makes a better connection to regular coaxial cbles. It is off to HP today or tomorrow to get fixed under warranty.

Toshiba PSLB8U-002003 Satellite L305-S5902 15.4" Notebook
I purchased this laptop primarily based on the processor/RAM and hard drive specifications. The interface is simple, looks sleek and is not cluttered with too many keys. The screen size and resolution are good. So far the machine seems to deliver as expected.
It is definitely on the heavier side and so handling requires some effort. Amazon advertised the laptop as having a built in webcam, but that is not true. L305-S5902 model does not come with a webcam. There are other laptops in the L305 series that do have that feature but not this one. I am not sure why the webcam was misleadingly advertised especially when this is the only laptop in the L305 series that Amazon is currently offering.
For the price and performance from a reputed company, this is a good purchase.

Toshiba PSLD8U-00G001 Satellite L355-S7831 17.0" Notebook
I purchased two of these as business laptops. Overall performance is good and the screen has moderate to good clarity. I have primarily used Dell laptops until now and find the keys and think pad buttons on the Toshiba to be a little bit cheap but they perform well enough for the price of the laptop. One annoyance is a single pixel in the screen that goes to red when the screen is showing darker colors and not enough of an annoyance to return/exchange. The webcam is grainy but I don't intend on using it. Excessive bloatware took a while to remove but it can be done and this is a consistent industry standard. I will be purchasing a third and will be getting an HP for comparison. The three star rating is for good solid performance. A four rating would require more of an investment in a laptop and a five would be a complete custom job.

HP Pavilion tx2510us Tablet PC-Turion X2 ZM-80, 12.1 3072MB
This is much improved from the tx1000z. The tx2500z has an active digitizer pen and is a welcome addition. I got the 2.4gHz processor and is pretty fast. As the title says it's the most affordable tablet around. Yes it does get warm and I position the air outlet on the top to avoid the warm exhaust. You can adjust the power mode and minimize the temp. I gave this tablet to my son for college and I advice getting OneNote since it will have free form writing ability within the program. There's going to be a tablet netbook but I rather have a dvd player on mines. The main con besides the temp is battery life. Get the larger battery and you'll be much happier. Vista runs great on it. No BSOD or any problems yet since it was purchased.

Pavilion dv5-1000us Intel Centrino 2 Core 2 Duo P7350 2.0GHz Entertainment Notebook
Purchased this laptop for my fiance's daughter. I will be taking it back to Puerto Rico with me on 10/10 so here is my problem. I love this laptop so much I almost want to keep it(which I know I can't because she truly needs it for school)or purchase another one. I currently own a Dell Inspiron. I honestly feel like selling my Dell and purchasing another DV5-1000US. From the dual-core processor the list goes on....4gb memory, 3mb cache, 250gb hard drive and to boot....a built-in webcam/microphone. Before receiving this laptop, I told my fiance not to expect much from the built-in webcam. I had to eat my words as I used it that same night while we chatted on instant messenger. Not only that but I called her computer and spoke with her just as well as if I was on the telephone. I will support another reviewer who stated there were many updates to download and install for Windows. I believe there were about 25 or 26 updates which took some time to download and install. That would

I purchased this computer new at the beginning of August as a gift for my sister in Europe. We were watching a DVD on the machine with my sister and noticed that the sound of the computer is too faint even at maximum volume. I took the computer back to the U.S. to have it fixed. I first spent 2 hours on the phone with a technician who updated my sound drivers (something I had already done and told him so). Since that didn't work, he sent a technician over to replace the speakers.

The first technician was sent only screws. The second technician replaced the speakers, which did not solve the problem, and damaged the laptop in the process. The third technician "repaired" the second technician's damage. Unfortunately, the sound stopped working completely after that. I have spent over 6 hours on the phone with DELL, spoke with 3 different supervisors. I only wanted to return the system and get my money back. They refused to return the computer and wanted to give me a refurbished machine in

Pavilion dv5-1000us Intel Centrino 2 Core 2 Duo P7350 2.0GHz Entertainment Notebook
I've had this for 3 weeks and am now returning it.

Pros: Sleek, fast, screen looks great. For me the ideal size as a desktop replacement and providing portability around my apartment (too big to take it everywhere all the time).

Cons: This was the kicker. The volume control does not work. I tried numerous calls to customer service, did about 6 different patches (new driver installation, then uninstall quicklaunch then reinstall, restore point, recovery). It worked, then problem resurfaced 2 weeks later. Big issue is the volume adjustment pops up in a big black box in the middle of your screen every 5 or 20 seconds, making it impossible to enjoy surfing the internet. It'll disappear (the problem), then whenever I play a mpeg or video file, the volume clicking noise and icon box will constantly reappear. I'm going to avoid the dv5 series entirely. When i googled 'pavillion dv5 and volume bug' i noticed a lot of other people have the same complaint. Otherwise a great laptop - just google

HP Pavilion tx2510us Tablet PC-Turion X2 ZM-80, 12.1 3072MB
It's small, lightweight, powerful. Multitasking with Vista is seamless. Can play most of the new games on this laptop. Can use most new editing tools like Photoshop, Adobe Suite, Ulead, Video Creator. No lags and delays. Fast working time. Processor and memory do not max out easily. Great for work and entertainment!

Note that the AMD Processor generates a lot of heat so be prepared for this. But for me, the tablet mode compensates for this hot drawback.

HP FE779UA Pavilion DV9930US Entertainment 17" Notebook PC
This laptop is a great computer for casual or novice users. The features are unbeatable for the price, and it's a gorgeous piece of hardware. The screen is razor sharp and the keyboard deck is wide and comfortable.

My unit had a defective CD/DVD drive right out of the box, but replacing the computer was fairly easy.

Beginners or casual users will enjoy the ease of setup and the wealth of software installed on the system. All the neat features work right off the bat (webcam, LightScribe disc labeling, DVD player, etc.). The computer is lightning fast and loads just about everything in seconds.

Advanced/power users will be sorely disappointed, however. As a 25-year veteran hardware/software developer, I demand a lot of my computers, especially access to all levels of configuration.

I expected to be able to wipe out Vista and install trusty Windows XP, but after days of deep research I learned this was impossible. The system is literally built for Vista, right down to the chipset. No operating

HP Pavilion tx2510us Tablet PC-Turion X2 ZM-80, 12.1 3072MB
This laptop is very good as for its price... its problem though is that is runs very hot, and the battery drains a bit fast... nevertheless, the touch screen feels good, and the keyboard is very conformable.. still adjusting to mouse... Another annoying issue is the lights of the buttons of the screen... I wish I could switch the lights off..

HP Pavilion tx2510us Tablet PC-Turion X2 ZM-80, 12.1 3072MB
I've had this laptop for less than 24 hours now. Went in to buy a VAIO, but the touch screen was irresistible. The laptop performs well most of the time. My only complaint - the keyboard keys are too hard. You won't notice the difference when you tap the keys a few times - but when you spend hours typing - you will!

The glossy screen is extremely painful in a room with fluorescent lighting. It makes it virtually unuseable unless you are in a dimly lit room. I haven't even tried it in daylight. Along with the hard keyboard, this is one of the most "unergonomic" laptops in the market.

Some users have mentioned that it gets pretty hot. Well, I think most laptops get hot - unless you're running a video or loaded a webpage on steroids, the heat is just about same as other laptops.

HP TouchSmart All-In-One Desktop with Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T5750 - Piano Black/Espresso
The touchscreen only worked twice after unboxing. The screen was defective and became unreadable after two bootups. The wireless mouse worked fine, however, the keyboard never worked even though the AAA sent with the computer were replaced with unopened, unexpired cells. HP technical support was less than helpful in trying to resolve the problems. They suggested a different product instead of trying to troubleshoot, or assist with the product already purchased. Luckily the return process from Amazon.com was quite helpful.
