Sony VAIO® VGN-Z570N/B 13.1" Notebook PC
This is by far the best Sony Vaio I ever owned. I previously owned a Sony C1MVP Picturebook, Sony Vaio T350P, Sony Vaio SZ110P, Sony Vaio TXN15P, Sony Vaio TZ150N/B. This notebook is by far my favorite one. It has a nice industrial look to it with the brushed metal and keyboard. It very light for a 13.1 inch notebook only .5lbs heavier than my TZ150 I had before. The screen has 100% color saturation and is by far the best screen I ever seen, that coming from a previous owner of a TZ150. Its powerful and runs Vista without a hiccup. Keyboard is nice and responsive. Nice big trackpad and the buttons are not too loud when clicked. If I had a gripe it would be that it doesn't come with the XP downgrade CD as promised. Also the screen is kinda soft meaning it tilts easily back but not forward.

Crysis Warhead: Windows
Games that use SecuROM v7 are anti-consumer. SecuROM limits the number of times you can install the product and essentially takes away your rights to use the product you paid for. Limited activations are crap. I will not buy any games with limited activations. If this is the way PC gaming is going, then I really dont care if PC gaming dies.

Crysis Warhead: Windows
Recently I purchased two coies of Spore and regret it due to the DRM. In this case I waited for this game to be in stock to know if it has DRM crap on it. Yes, it has DRM (SecuROM root kit).

So, this is a game I'll never purchase due to the DRM. Electronic Arts doesn't got the message we sent on Spore, they are playing hard on their customers and will loose a bunch of them. Particularly I'm banning from my life anything with DRM and since EA doesn't listen to the customers, then I'll not buy anything from them until any DRM is removed from their games. End of story.

VAIO FW140E/W Intel Centrino 2 Core 2 Duo P8400 2.26GHz Notebook - Powder White
The Sony Vaio VGN-FW170J/W is overall a very nice laptop with a great screen (720p HD and not 1080p as advertised), blu ray player, plenty of system memory, new penryn class intel cpu and a nice sized HDD. However, I have owned this laptop for about a month now and I have had numerous problems with its factory installed Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit edition. As most of us know, there are inherent compatibility issues with 64bit OS.....but when SONY ships a laptop it should work out of the box with all of the bundleware it shipped with. First, There are numerous problems with the Roxio Easy Media Creator 10 LJ software....CD writing speed maxs out at 8x instead of 16x as indicated in specs....with most of the burns ending in errors.
Secondly, The WindDVD BD for Vaio software from InterVideo has some limitations with regards to advanced settings. Blu rays seem to play perfectly but you have no ability to access and tweak some of the sound/video settings to enhance your viewing. I first

Nikon D40 6 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Kit - 18-55mm and 55-200mm Lenses
I have now owned the Nikon D40 for almost a year, and I feel that I now have a strong enough opinion on this camera to write a meaningful review.

The D40 was my first digital SLR. Going back about a year, around this time in 2007, I was busy doing a lot of research on whether I should buy the Canon digital rebel XT, or the Nikon D40 (both of which are entry-level SLRs from the two leading camera manufacturers). I am glad now that I chose the D40. When it came down to it, both the D40 and XT were for the most part equally matched, in both price and specs. I chose the Nikon D40 simply because it felt like a more tough, less "plasticy" body. If you are currently caught in the same position that I was at the time, I urge you to go to some electronics store, and try both of the cameras out. Get a feel for them, and make your buying decision based on which one is more comfortable in your hands.

However, this is not a review of the Canon Rebel XT, so without further adieu, let me tell you why

Sony Blu-ray Disc Player with 1080p Output
I am surprised at the negative reviews of the BDP-S350. I purchased mine just last week and have had no problems: quick start times, quiet operation, excellent picture quality.

I've determined that most of the negatives are coming from users who are not properly setting up the player before use. NOTE: The default setting on this unit is "auto," meaning that it will set the picture quality to match the disc. So, if you put in a standard DVD it is going to play it at 480p. Change the picture setting to 1080p for all playback and you are guaranteed automatic upscaling for SD DVDs and 1080p for Blu-Ray discs. And the upscaling on this unit is terrific -- your standard def dics wil look great.

Also, several negatives are coming from people who aren't playing the unit through a 1080p HDTV. Of course the picture isn't going to look better than your SD DVD in that situation. Therefore, don't buy this unit it you don't have a 1080p HDTV -- you are wasting your money. And take the time to properly

Panasonic SC-PT950 Home Theater System (Refurbished)-SC-PT950 Home Theater System with 1080p
I recieved the unit in great condition. When I hooked it up, the picture was great, but there is no audio coming from the speakers... at all. I called Panasonic's help center and we determined that the audio output was completely shot. Therefore I have to drive 2 hours to have it looked at/repaired at my own expense. I didn't expect a perfect refurb, but I did expect it to at least WORK when I got it. This is the last time I order any refurb from Overstock.com.

JVC DR-MV100B VCR and DVD Combo Recorder - Black
This was our 3rd attempt to find a dvd recorder/VCR that also has a digital tuner. We returned an LG and a Panasonic (which was the worst piece of equipment my husband and I have ever seen). I almost never return anything, but apparently nobody has worked the bugs out of this technology.

The JVC lasted 3 weeks before we took it back, since we got a fairly clear picture and it recorded well onto VHS tapes and DVD. The problem was that it kept locking up and I would have to unplug it so it could reboot. Anytime you tried to change channels too quickly or tried to watch a DVD it didn't like, it would lock up. It wouldn't let me turn it off with the remote or at the unit, so I'd have to unplug it. I'm not sure if it was just that particular unit, or a software problem in all JVC units, but it was frustrating enough that we went back to our old DVD player that doesn't have a digital tuner.

The pros on this unit were that it found all of our digital and analog channels, including a

ACER ASPIRE AS6920-6886 NOTEBOOK PC
This is a phenomenal laptop for the price. I did massive amounts of research and discovered that this one was the best machine for the price. It includes a ton of features that make it that much better. More specifically I am referring to the blu ray drive and the hdmi port. Blu ray movies look fantastic on the screen, which is glossy and very clear. A major selling point of this model is the sound system. It is by far the best set of speakers i have heard come out of a laptop.

This computer is also very fast with a Core 2 Duo and 4GB of ram, which have decently fast stock timings and allows Vista to run smoothly. The video card can also handle somewhat intense games if that's another thing you're looking for. The CineDash, which is the media control on the left side which is touch sensitive, is a very nice touch. It responds well and can be used for Acer Arcade (preinstalled) and also works with iTunes and Windows Media Player. It also includes a fingerprint scanner under the mousepad

Philips DVDR3506/37 DVD Player and Recorder
The recorder is one of the newer ones and would otherwise be a great one, but its fatal flaw is built-in anti-copying technology that makes it so you're unable to record many TV programs that are broadcast with a certain signal. I attempted to record several episodes of Breaking Bad last night, but it only recorded two second snippets.

As it turned out, this DVR comes with a copyright protection software that shuts down the recording function if you record the wrong program. It does not give you the freedom of choice to make up your own mind as to whether your recording constitutes fair use (recording television in order to watch privately later) or duplication for showing to the public. It just imposes the choice of the TV program's producers on you.

I kept my receipt, so I'll be returning this recorder soon and getting one by a different company that trusts ME to make the decision about what I record and how I use it. If I get caught violating copyright, it is on me, not Philli

Toshiba Satellite A305-S6857 15.4" Laptop (2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T5750 Processor, 4 GB RAM, 320 GB Hard Drive, DVD Drive, Vista Premium) Black
This is my third Toshiba laptop in 6 years. I love to trade up. My first Toshiba laptop is still in use! This one is fantastic! FOUR gig of RAM was a big plus, along with the webcam and the neat USB SLEEP and CHARGE port for charging Ipods etc if the computer is plugged in but turned off.
The screen is sharp and clear with no glare. The keyboard is very comfortable and I love the smooth-surface touchpad...no room for grit and grime to settle in the edges. The battery life seems to be three hours plus! The only negative is getting rid of all the free/trial software.
This is a wonderful computer. I was able to get it for $649 (with $200 mail-in rebate). Family and friends have had DELL and Gateway, but my Toshiba's have always been outstanding.

Philips DVP5960 DVD Player with HDMI (Refurbished)-Philips DVP5960 Multi Region Free DVD Player HDMI
This product is so not worth purchasing. Do not consider a refurbished product. I'm about to return this item back. It constantly says "No Disc" and will not play any DVD. I'm pretty sure the reason for it being refurbished is due to the same problem and it had to be fixed.

Roxio Creator 2009 - Windows
I'm a big creator supporter and my last program was Easy Media version 9. The gap between 8 and 9 was huge. The program changes seem more subtle but still worthwhile. A huge upgrade is the burning High Def and Bluray disks with standard burner and discs. I can enjoy the better quality without having to make the huge investment in a burner. Besides, I'm still not sure how long BD and HD will hang around. This is a cheap solution.
I always enjoy creating slideshows and on the surface this app seems to be the same, except for more format choices. However adding music is much easier. I then noticed that there is a music creator. It may be very basic in that it gives some basic music genre melodies and beats, but it works in a pinch. I didn't use the video programs that much before but now I like how fast Cinemagic works. The chapter style editing is just my speed and saves me the trouble of breaking up video clips manually.
The sound grabber has a post recording mode. If you

Haier HLC15E 15-Inch LCD HDTV with Built-In DVD Player
Picture quality was poor. It was pale and there was a lack of sharpness. Dealing with the company to return the set was worse. It was returned the next day at our expense ($26). Our refund was $17l.49, which was $99.28 less than the price we paid. Company policy stated that there would be a $50 restocking fee (unacceptable policy), but what was the additional $49.28 for? The company has yet to respond to our query. In essence, for the service of having a picture-poor TV delivered to us and kept for one day, we lost $125.28 (almost half) of the original price of $270.77! Do not buy this set or deal with this company under any circumstances.

OPPO DV-983H 1080p Universal Up-Converting DVD Player with SACD and DVD-Audio
The Oppo DV-983H has performed as advertised. I have a large DVD library and some SACD's. The Oppo out of the box is working as advertised and reviewed. I am happy with my choice and can recommend this product to anyone, who like me has an existing DVD library, wants to add to it, and does not want to start over purchasing or renting Blu-rays.

Mac OS X v10.5.4 Leopard
I lost EVERYTHING on my hard drive because I didn't pay attention to the window during install. One of the first windows that comes up asks how you want to install... One of the options is to erase your hard drive, and then install the new operating system. This is the option selected unless you click the others. Beware, and pay attention.

Garmin Map Update 2009
I have not noticed any difference with the new maps. What really bothered me is that I have two GPS units in my vehicles and the update only works for one unit. Garmin could easily allow two units to be updated, but I guess they want to discourage owning more than one. I am done with Garmin. I will buy something cheaper next time.

Toshiba SD-P2900 Portable DVD Player (Refurbished)
I thought this was a GREAT value, however, I didn't read the "this is a refurbished unit" even though it was noted on the web page for the item . The packaging it was shipped in made it look as if it was a brand new product, however, after reviewing the packing slip, that's when I realized it was a refurbished product. I loved the fact it has such a large screen, and many options for viewing. However, I received the product yesterday, and the battery will not charge which doesn't do me much good in an airplane or out in the woods camping. Therefore, I'm sending it back. Toshiba is noted for quality products and I think I just got one of the few batteries that didn't take a charge. Oh, well . . . next time I'll insure that I read all the product information and make sure it's a new unit, not refurbished.

Toshiba XD-E500 Upconverting 1080p Extended Detail DVD Player
The XDE-500 DVD player from Toshiba is a marked improvement in playback quality of standard DVDs. It not only upconverts the vertical resolution from 480 to 1080P but enhances the fine detail of the picture in the horizontal resolution in a way that does not raise the noise content in the program material while also enhancing the contrast and color detail in a most useful way. For the price it is well worth it to buy this outstanding performer to enhance all your current and past DVD collection to a new level of picture quality that is substantially higher than you are used to seeing them and approaches true high defintion on your 1080P HDTV set.
