Finally took the bite and bought my first Apple computer. I'm a photographer and needed a new laptop since my old Gateway one was slowing down.. and since I've been eyeing an Apple since then, I finally purchased one after seeing the new one [I'm writing the review using it right now.]
First things first: it just works. No clutter, no unnecessary backgrounds running in the background, simple and definitely sleek. I'm still getting use to the file management since it is different but otherwise, a lot of the programs I've used on Windows are available on Mac.
:Design:
It's really light for a 15" laptop! And definitely thin too.. although it's not a cutting edge Macbook Air thin, it's definitely thin enough for easier transport. The all aluminum design is stunning. It's solid and feels sturdy. The keyboard is just right with its chiclet style keys and has enough tactile feedback.. not too loud either.
:Screen:
It's glossy and yes there is glare. Since I do photography, it's probably not

I am a long-time IT professional with enough certifications (mostly Microsoft) to make a large can of alphabet soup, and this is my first Mac. I had played with a few of them here and there years ago, and never saw what people liked about them. The closest I ever came was back in the late '90s when I was tempted to run Windows on a PPC, but just about the time I was going to do that, Microsoft pulled their support for it from Windows, and that ended that.
So, I was anti-Mac for quite a few years. All that has changed. I began to believe in the OS when Apple began to base it on Unix. A solid, time proven technology that I trust. The big thing that changed it all for me is VMWare. For 70 dollars, I have the ability to run Vista Ultimate, XP, and Ubuntu Linux on OSX. My Vista Ultimate is my previous Dell (not a slouchy box, either). It's a complete clone of my old computer. Windows still shows it being a Dell! Spooky. Windows had it a 3.6 rating, and a retest of the VM on my Mac

In more more than 25 years as a computer "power user," this is the first Mac I have ever owned. I had never considered Macs to be relevant to me in several key ways, including the proprietary, non-Intel hardware and lots of "funky things" about the old Mac OS. However, I had also become dog-tired of the Wintel boondoggle--machines needing to be rebuilt on a regular basis, blue screens, virus hassles, etc, etc. Supporting family computers was even more of a pain. "Dad, what does this error message mean?!" Clearly Macs are now a viable alternative for technical business users (okay, they have been for a while), so I took the leap even though the hardware is very pricey, competitively speaking.
I'm absolutely delighted with this purchase. Everything just works. Although I'm still finding my way around in some areas, I am reveling in the joy of a human-use-oriented user interface. I installed VMware fusion based on my comparisons between it and Parallels, and on my experience with VMware

I was looking to replace my older 3GB RAM Gateway that was working just fine. Getting this Toshiba was the best move ever. Most of my apps installed without issues, although HP's all-in-one printer drivers have some occasional issues... I love the 64-bit O/S, the 4GB DDR2, the fact I can expand that to 8GB in the future -- as there are 2 memory slots, and the laptop comes with 2GB in each slot. Once 4GB modules become available (at a decent price), I can expand the memory and maintain some semblance of modern and fast performance.
The unit is nice and light, although it benefits from the (optional) extended capacity battery. The network card has great reach, even in hotels with weak signals. Although the touch and feel doesn't appear to be as solid as the Gateway, it does feel good and hopefully it will last a few years without issues. The only thing I did not like was the power adapter -- the connection that attaches to the unit is very flimsy, and will probably break the next

I have been enjoying this laptop a great deal. It has become my primary computer to which I have my monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers, router & modem, and printer wired. The only thing I had to add, since it is a primary unit, is a USB hub because my keyboard, mouse, and printer use up the 3 USB ports and I needed 2 more for my external hard drive. If you don't need to plug in all that stuff, no worries.
I am a fan of the Toshiba brand anyway. My husband also has a Toshiba laptop with which we both have been very pleased, and we have other Toshiba electronics all of which have been excellent and durable. This new Toshiba is amazingly fast. Love having the additional memory and very large hard drive since this was charted to become my primary since I killed my desktop a couple weeks ago.
Another amazing thing I am finding is that it stays so cool! I was amazed. When I was setting it up I just had it sitting on one of my wire mesh laptop stands and even after 10 hours of use

First off, deduct one star for Vista. Man, this OS deserves all the bad press it receives. Deduct another star for where the power supply attaches to the notebook, way too close to the drawer of the DVD/CD drive. Aside from these issues, the notebook performs admirably, despite Vista, for those tasks such as web surfing, email and non graphics-critical applications. Out of the box the notebook would see my FIOS router but refused to connect to the internet. After reloading the entire image from the backup disks, I could access the internet. Toshiba tech support suggested the fix and does not advise downgrading to XP since there are driver issues that XP will not be able to resolve. Vista deserves a 2 star deduction but overall this notebook is good value despite its OS. Yes, there are several included apps that you may want to uninstall but that's no big deal.
The notebook can be purchased for much less than the Amazon price so do some Googling if you're interested.

I will never buy a Toshiba again. Problem #1, the laptop heats up very, very, very hot. I have to have a book or thick magazine between the computer and my lap when I am sitting on the couch using the laptop. I have heard that this heat is very bad for the computer in the long run. Problem #2, this is the worst!> The keyboard has lost its sense of touch. I have to press extremely hard on the keys to type an email or a letter. When I speed type an email, I review it and there are many letters missing. Huge pain in the neck to go back and enter the letters that were missed. The keyboard is a piece of junk! I saved a few $$ buying this, what a mistake. Next time I am going with Sony or HP; even a Dell would be better than this Toshiba.

It is everything in a laptop i dream of and more. super fast, in all aspects of what I want to do, be it video editing, music editing, or writing a resume or just plain surfing,it is the best OS of all! My only peeve is that the hard drive is not a true 320GB hard drive (298?). Other than that, this laptop blows all of the rest out of the water. On Boot camp, a vista OS never had it so good with the ultra crisp graphics and and vivid color. That is the only thing that vista have over leopard, but leopard eats it up overall. Highly recommended if you want the best of both worlds in OSes, this is it and no other. That alone in my book makes this system worth every penny and once you go mac.......you never go back! My Imac pushed me away from PC's and there is no more need other than other particular things that windows do that OS X do not. Great investment, worth every dollar in my opinion. Parallels in an awesome hit as well! so many features, that will blow you away. Just a true blessing

Good computer, but a major disappointment as it is downgraded in MANY ways from the previous model. No longer useful for Art, Photography, Video professionals. I have owned every upgrade to the Powerbook/Macbook Pro line for 9 years. EVERY single one! This is the first I had to return :(
First the good
-Very solid chassis, even more so than before.
-some of the benefits the previous generation had
-easier access to the hard drive for upgrade
-Improved Vid card
-Laptop that runs OSX, still the best operating system in use today!
The Bad (compared to the previous generation)
-Thinner by a hair, but wider and deeper yet a SMALLER battery? Very poor choice by Apple. End result = worse battery life in a larger laptop with the same size screen. (downgrade)
-Keyboard, some do like the new keyboard, I do not. It is simply not as good as the one it replaces. (Downgrade)
-Screen screen screen, the glossy screens are absolute garbage if you want proper color rendition or if you want to

I purchased this Toshiba Satellite L305-S5907 laptop three weeks ago from Amazon and I've been impressed. Amazon shipped my machine quickly via UPS. It was on sale for about 24 hours so I got mine for $579 with no tax, and shipping was included. This is the best price I've found on a laptop with these specs. The Toshiba is fast, quiet, two pounds lighter than my 7 year old Dell, and looks great. I've had no troubles with Vista Premium working with this machine. My only complaints are the glare on the glossy screen, if you're outside, and the glossy plastic case, which looks good, but shows fingerprints easily. I don't play alot of games on my computer and this is certainly not a gaming machine with a separate graphics card. I have a Wii for that. It also isn't a television with a Blu Ray player and 17" widescreen. I have a LCD TV for that. The 15.4" widescreen is perfect for my use and looks great. You could spend $1200 for an entry level Mac but it would have much less memory,

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R3RM83V7DHZIBQ My name is Michael Manna and I host the T4 Show. It's a site that covers all technology news as well as performing podcasts and videos. I just received my MacBook Pro today and shot a quick tour. I haven't had a chance to fully review it yet, but I want to make a comment about Amazon Prime. It is the BEST. I ordered the MBP with 1 day shipping for $3.99 on Saturday, assuming it would be delivered on Tuesday. It arrived Monday before 10am. This is not the first time that has happened. I am a huge proponent of Amazon Prime, especially for Christmas shopping. Now I can play with my new MacBook Pro and not get bumped and shoved at the malls. Prime is the best!

This review is for the MB470LL/A (2.4GHZ CPU, 2GB Memory, 250GB Hard Drive) MacBook Pro released in late 2008. I bought this machine for my wife who had been using Windows machines for years, but never really "got into" them. I thought that Mac, known for its superior usability and user interface design might be a better choice for her. The rest of this review is in her words.
Let me begin by saying the following: I am a non techie, first time laptop owner. I have not owned any previous Macs, and all my previous experience is from a Windows PC. What I wanted from a computer was a place to keep all my photos, music, stories (I enjoy writing), etc; nothing extreme, just the everyday stuff that most people probably use their computer for. Why I wanted a laptop was because I have a little girl (9 months currently) and I wanted to be able to write from anywhere while still being able to keep an eye on her. So please take everything I write with this info in mind.
I had heard that

After having read numerous complaints about this device going to sleep and never waking up, I made sure to immediately install it using the fairly public workaround of giving it a dedicated IP address. It has never used DHCP and it has never failed. Would it fail to wake up if I used DHCP? Probably so, but since I'm not using it that way, it's not a problem.
I'm ecstatic that the driver can be installed alone - without all of the extra overhead fluff that many consumer printers scatter around your system. When I'm not printing, there aren't 10,000 processes running in the background like there were with my old Lexmark.
So far I've only used the included inks and the photo quality, at least to an untrained eye, is much better than I would have expected from a device at this price. I don't know if the 6 ink option produces better photos than the default 4 color output right out of the box, but again, to my untrained eyes, the photo output looks great from the CMYK cartridges which

Toshiba Satellite L305-S5907 15.4-Inch Laptop (2.0 GHz Intel Pentium Dual Core T3200 Processor, 4 GB RAM, 320 GB Hard Drive, DVD Drive, Vista Premium)
FOR MANY YEARS I HAVE OWNED A DESKTOP. I FINALLY DECIDED IN DOING SOME RESEARCH TO EDUCATE MYSELF ABOUT LAPTOPS AND ALL IT HAS TO OFFER. IN DOING SO, I FOUND THIS WONDERFUL PRODUCT THROUGH AMAZON.COM. BEING A FIRST TIME BUYER OF A LAPTOP COMP, I WAS CONCERNED WITH THE PRICE AND SPECS OF A SUCH PRODUCT. THUS, I CHECKED MANY RETAIL STORES AND FOUND AMAZON.COM SAVED ME ABOUT $200. CUST SERVICE WITH AMAZON WAS A VERY DELIGHTFUL EXPERIENCE (WE ALL KNOW CUST SCE IS USUALLY A NIGHTMARE). I MUST REALLY SAY, AMAZON.COM WAS ABSOLUTELY INSTRUMENTAL IN ASSISTING ME WITH ALL MY QUESTIONS AND PURCHASE. ONE MORE THING, AMAZON INFORMED ME UPON MY PURCHASE, MY COMP'S ARRIVAL WILL TAKE ABOUT 7-10 DYS, WELL LET ME TELL YOU, I RECD THE PRODUCT VIA UPS IN 3 DYS. THANK YOU AMAZON. I WILL DEFINITELY RECOMMEND YOU TO MY FRIENDS AND CONTINUE DOING BUSINESS

The new MacBooks were out and boy was I ever excited. I watched Steve Jobs' performance, saw the machines were really and truly to die for, just like he was saying they were. These were the next best thing since sliced bread. I had to have one and I had to have it now. I went right online to the Apple store and ordered mine right up. Then I did my last backup of my fifteen inch MacBook, a machine I really loved, but I was going to love the new one so much more, so backup complete, I put my baby on eBay and seven days later I packed it up and shipped it out.
And for a whole two days I was sans MacBook, but then I got the knock. The FedEx guy was at the door with my new MacBook. I was one happy girl. Okay, I was a little disappointed to see I couldn't hook my new baby up to my twenty-three inch Apple Cinema Display, because Apple changed the connection on the new MacBooks and they didn't supply an adapter and only one company makes those adapters. Guess who? You guessed it. Apple! Was this

I just purchased the pro yesterday at my local Apple Store. I have had it for less then 24hrs so far, and I love it. I was going to get the high end Macbook, and then at the last minute decided on the low end Pro upgraded with 4GB of Memory. I am so glad I did. It is so fast, and powerful. The display is what made me make the final choice. It is still very portable. It weighs the same as my black macbook, and is thin. It would be very easy to just to throw in my backpack and be on my way. Also the firewire. It was going to be the easiest way to transfer all my data from my old black macbook to the pro. It only took and hour and a half, and I have all my information. I didn't have to do anything, just started it up and began to play. I didn't have Leopard on my old one, and I love it so far. It is easy and the graphics and set up are great. I love the stacks options, and the lighted keyboard. I also love how the controls for the dashboard, screen brightness, keyboard brightness,

After much research I decided on the Toshiba Satellite L305-S5907. I compared it to the HP Touch which I was real excited about when it first came out. The only problem was the touch screen with the 4 GB or RAM and 320 Hard drive has a 22 inch screen which would make it impossible for me to use the computer the way I use my laptop. So I looked at the HP touch screen laptop which has a 12 inch screen. This was a problem for me since my previous laptop has a 12 inch screen and I hated. Also the HP touch laptop lacked the amount of memory I desired. So I started my quest for a laptop with the memory and RAM I desired for a reasonable price. I did not want a Dell because my previous laptop is a Dell and it sucks big time.
I checked CNET and some other websites and I also checked with a few computer geeks I know and the Toshiba got high praise. So I bought it and boy am I happy!!!
I love my laptop !!! I haven't had any problems with the vista home premium and the webcam feature helps

Though I loved my previous laptop and used it with no complaints since November 2003, I feel like I was a caterpillar and now I'm a butterfly, using my new Toshiba L305D-S5581! Well, okay, I did have a complaint about how long it took my old PC to boot up and shut down, and was thrilled with my new Toshiba's faster accomplishments of those routine operations. I had expected slower instead of faster, due to VISTA and the additional programs which would be on the new laptop. I had XP on my old laptop. I like both versions of MS Windows OS, and can see the advantages of each, but VISTA is definitely the butterfly.
Even though many reviews have made what appear to have been valid complaints about products with the specifications this Toshiba (and other brands) has, I have not had any of those difficulties, and indeed have felt like wings have replaced my previously grounded slow motion.

Before I make these comments, let me just say that I have been a satisfied Sony customer for years but this time they really let me down.
I ordered a Sony VGN- N140E as a second laptop for the house from Sony Style following a succesful experience with a Sony Vaio in the past. Unfortunately, the machine was defective upon arrival with what appeared to be a bad contact in the power circuit which mean't that the machine would not turn on.
So I contacted Sony support but their troubleshooting did not solve the problem. Then I contacted Sony Style Customer Relations. It only took me four (4) calls to get the right person. Their solution was to send the machine for repair. I politely pointed out that, had I wanted a refurbished machine, I would have purchsed one cheaper than the brand-new machine I had just received. My solution ... I like Sony equipment so why not just replace it with one that works? Sadly, that is not Sony policy. However, you can return it, wait to be reimbursed and then

The new MacBook Pro is a significant new laptop, aka MBP, Apple's new unibody manufacturing makes the MBP solid. Just holding the MBP you can feel the quality. And this is just my external impression.
Looking inside the MBP you'll be pleased, from the wonderful, full sized back lit keyboard, the super drive, the array of ports, the connecting options, and the new screen. I love the new glossy screen, the colors are so vibrant, the best display screen I have seen on a laptop.
Perhaps the best thing about the new MBP. Is the software. Staring with Mac OSX, the operating system, clearly the best operating system available. And not just my opinion check out what the industry pundits have to say about OSX. Also included is Apple's well received creative programs, iTunes, iPhoto, and others.
I feel in love with Apple products, after many years of struggling with Windows, just try out the new MBP. I have a feeling you'll love the experience.
