Sony VAIO® VGN-Z570N/B 13.1" Notebook PC
This is by far the best Sony Vaio I ever owned. I previously owned a Sony C1MVP Picturebook, Sony Vaio T350P, Sony Vaio SZ110P, Sony Vaio TXN15P, Sony Vaio TZ150N/B. This notebook is by far my favorite one. It has a nice industrial look to it with the brushed metal and keyboard. It very light for a 13.1 inch notebook only .5lbs heavier than my TZ150 I had before. The screen has 100% color saturation and is by far the best screen I ever seen, that coming from a previous owner of a TZ150. Its powerful and runs Vista without a hiccup. Keyboard is nice and responsive. Nice big trackpad and the buttons are not too loud when clicked. If I had a gripe it would be that it doesn't come with the XP downgrade CD as promised. Also the screen is kinda soft meaning it tilts easily back but not forward.

VAIO FW140E/W Intel Centrino 2 Core 2 Duo P8400 2.26GHz Notebook - Powder White
The Sony Vaio VGN-FW170J/W is overall a very nice laptop with a great screen (720p HD and not 1080p as advertised), blu ray player, plenty of system memory, new penryn class intel cpu and a nice sized HDD. However, I have owned this laptop for about a month now and I have had numerous problems with its factory installed Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit edition. As most of us know, there are inherent compatibility issues with 64bit OS.....but when SONY ships a laptop it should work out of the box with all of the bundleware it shipped with. First, There are numerous problems with the Roxio Easy Media Creator 10 LJ software....CD writing speed maxs out at 8x instead of 16x as indicated in specs....with most of the burns ending in errors.
Secondly, The WindDVD BD for Vaio software from InterVideo has some limitations with regards to advanced settings. Blu rays seem to play perfectly but you have no ability to access and tweak some of the sound/video settings to enhance your viewing. I first

ACER ASPIRE AS6920-6886 NOTEBOOK PC
This is a phenomenal laptop for the price. I did massive amounts of research and discovered that this one was the best machine for the price. It includes a ton of features that make it that much better. More specifically I am referring to the blu ray drive and the hdmi port. Blu ray movies look fantastic on the screen, which is glossy and very clear. A major selling point of this model is the sound system. It is by far the best set of speakers i have heard come out of a laptop.

This computer is also very fast with a Core 2 Duo and 4GB of ram, which have decently fast stock timings and allows Vista to run smoothly. The video card can also handle somewhat intense games if that's another thing you're looking for. The CineDash, which is the media control on the left side which is touch sensitive, is a very nice touch. It responds well and can be used for Acer Arcade (preinstalled) and also works with iTunes and Windows Media Player. It also includes a fingerprint scanner under the mousepad

Apple MacBook, 13-inch, 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo - White - MB403LL/A
I'm a PC/Mac Technician/Administrator by trade. So I have plenty or experience with Windows and Macs. I've used PCs since there were PCs and I always say I'll use the best tool for the job, and time after time the best tool is a Mac. Whether you're an aspiring programmer, designer, artist, musician or simply just want to surf the web, view e-mail, IM friends or and get your job done easily, a Mac will suit your needs.

I bought this model refurbished off the Apple Store. Anything I say about the computer's Operating System (OS X) usually applies equally to other Macintosh models.

First the Hardware:
For a consumer machine it's surprisingly solid and the weight feels good. The built in camera (standard on Mac laptops and iMacs) is pretty decent as far as web cams go. After months of heavy use the hinges are still snug and the screen is just as bright. 2GB will take care of most people's needs.
Also, and this is very important, since this is an Intel based machine you can install windows

Sony VAIO VGN-CR510E/P Notebook (Refurbished)-Sony VAIO VGN-CR510E/P Notebook
I ordered this Vaio (in grey) from Amazon over a month ago when it was offered as a Gold Box item. His Compaq mini-tower had died two months prior and I thought a laptop would make more sense for him now.

I am not going to go into the technical mumbo-jumbo because you can see the specs posted in the product description section. Suffices to say that it is adequately supplied with memory, has sufficient disk storage and comes with... hmmm... Vista.

On the computer itself, it is a true laptop, meaning that it's not a TOO large mini-super-computer-emulator but not too small either. The display looks great. The keyboard is only adequate. This model does not come with a mouse so, if you don't want to depend on the little touchpad, make sure you have a USB mouse handy.

Installation... well you turn it on and it works. As it is always the case with 'consumer' computers, as soon as you turn it on, you are bombarded with tons of tutorials and various pre-installed trashware/bloatware - the usual

HP Pavilion dv6870us Notebook-Turion 64 TL-64 Gold 15.4
I purchased this unit for my son who is entering his freshman year of high school. I have an HP unit for work that has been very reliable so thought I would give this a shot for him. He is very happy with it, works great for surfing and watching videos. We have not tried the Blue Ray player yet, but assume it will be nice. Having the 3 GB of Ram appears pretty crucial as I recently was upgraded (?) to Vista at work and my machine, which does not have that much Ram, runs pretty slow on it, but his works much quicker. Only drawback might be the wieght of this unit. It has an amazing battery life, but it comes at a heavy price, pun intended, the thing weighs a lot comparatively, but all in all, well worth the money and was very easy to fire up and start working on it right away.

Pavilion dv5-1000us Intel Centrino 2 Core 2 Duo P7350 2.0GHz Entertainment Notebook
I've had this for 3 weeks and am now returning it.

Pros: Sleek, fast, screen looks great. For me the ideal size as a desktop replacement and providing portability around my apartment (too big to take it everywhere all the time).

Cons: This was the kicker. The volume control does not work. I tried numerous calls to customer service, did about 6 different patches (new driver installation, then uninstall quicklaunch then reinstall, restore point, recovery). It worked, then problem resurfaced 2 weeks later. Big issue is the volume adjustment pops up in a big black box in the middle of your screen every 5 or 20 seconds, making it impossible to enjoy surfing the internet. It'll disappear (the problem), then whenever I play a mpeg or video file, the volume clicking noise and icon box will constantly reappear. I'm going to avoid the dv5 series entirely. When i googled 'pavillion dv5 and volume bug' i noticed a lot of other people have the same complaint. Otherwise a great laptop - just google

Sony VAIO Laptop with Intel Pentium Dual-Core Processor T2390 - Nightfall Blue
It's a strong name with a big reputation. I chose to buy a Sony laptop because everything I have ever owned with "Sony" written on it has been solid. This laptop computer is no different. It was easy to setup, connected to my network seamlessley and is a real joy to use everyday. With the exception of having to muddle through the transition to using Windows Vista and especally it's out of the box quirks... which I am over now. I can report that I am now among the those with portability and can slide into the red velvet half booth at starbucks to sip and surf with the other hip urbanites.

Sony VAIO NR260E/W Laptop (Refurbished)-Sony VAIO VGN-NR260E/W Notebook
I presently also own a MacBook Pro with Leapord that is very easy to use. However , this new notebook Sony VAIO NR260E/W Laptop has Windows Vista and It just started clicking to whatever window it wanted to go to. I have to look into it more, but I do not like a machine that does its own thing.

HP FE779UA Pavilion DV9930US Entertainment 17" Notebook PC
This laptop is a great computer for casual or novice users. The features are unbeatable for the price, and it's a gorgeous piece of hardware. The screen is razor sharp and the keyboard deck is wide and comfortable.

My unit had a defective CD/DVD drive right out of the box, but replacing the computer was fairly easy.

Beginners or casual users will enjoy the ease of setup and the wealth of software installed on the system. All the neat features work right off the bat (webcam, LightScribe disc labeling, DVD player, etc.). The computer is lightning fast and loads just about everything in seconds.

Advanced/power users will be sorely disappointed, however. As a 25-year veteran hardware/software developer, I demand a lot of my computers, especially access to all levels of configuration.

I expected to be able to wipe out Vista and install trusty Windows XP, but after days of deep research I learned this was impossible. The system is literally built for Vista, right down to the chipset. No operating

G50V-A1 Intel Centrino 2 Core 2 Duo T9400 2.53GHz Notebook
This is a great Vista gaming laptop. It is a gaming laptop and probably a bit of overkill for regular people. Ill be reviewing this as a gaming laptop and not as a word processor/email machine.

Pros-
I am playing Warhammer Online Beta and with all of the settings turned up to max I get around 55-70fps. I hear they will be allowing even higher settings soon so this may not be possible at release, for now it is beautiful. Example; the armor has a gleam to it and looks so much better than WoW, and you can see character shaped shadows on the ground that move with the sun. Stunning really.

The OLED display is nice to view email as you are playing in full screen mode. There is a decent vent on the left side that 2nds as a coffee warmer/ popcorn popper during game play. Right above it is a 15 pin VGA connector (who uses this any more??). There is a panel lust right of the OLED that allows for quick start-up of programs and even an instant boot option if you just want to surf the web, play

Sony VAIO® VGN-Z550N/B 13.1" Notebook PC
I received this lap top in couple of days after the release. So far I dont have any issues and everything is very cool with this cute lop top. Creating and restoring the PC is like cake walk.

Only problem is the sony tech support. They dont have much knowledge. As I myself a techi, I hope I dont need their support. I give five star as this for the PC and not for the service. Otherwise I would have given only three or four stars.

HP Pavilion dv9812us Notebook-Turion64 X2 TL-60, 17 250GB
Bought a new laptop for the first time & maybe I am in the minority, but I still use my computer mainly for work. After spending over a thousand dollars on it, it does not come with ANY office software!!!!! You can do just about anything on this thing, but you can't write a letter. So. . .had to go and buy additional software to actually get some work done.
As for the computer itself, it does operate well, so far. Screen is clear and large enough not to get eye strain. But do find HP's constant pop-ups of eternal updates of software really annoying when you are in the middle of a project. They need to either put those things at the initial turn-on of the machine or the shut-down and keep them out of the work day. Does take some getting used to the rolling mouse on the keyboard if you have never used one.

HP FE849UA Pavilion dv5-1010us Entertainment 15.4" Notebook PC
Had this laptop for over a month at the time of this review. I am 96% satisfied with it.
It has a great number of features which are even unmatched by the more expensive notebooks.

That is, 4GB of fast DDR2/800 Ram memory, (currently among the largest RAM configurations sold); 320 GB 5400 WD hard drive (again, among the largest offered).

The laptop also has some other latest high-tech gadgets, namely an HDMI output and an e-sata port, which would allow connection of external hard drives without the loss of download rates.

It has a total of 4 USB ports one of which is combined with e-sata.

I am not a big fan of infiniti screen as it looks a bit greyish to me, but the colors are satisfactory when looking at the screen straight ahead. I had s year old HP DV4000 that had a better screen. The resolution is standard though 1280x800. Check notebookreview.com for more information. Some people like the screen.

Despite some arrogant criticism, I am very satisfied with Nvidia 9200m-gs. It

HP FE821UA Pavilion DV6920US Entertainment 15.4" Notebook PC
This laptop is stunning to look at, with a state-of-the-art look and feel. The monitor is fantastic. I use mine 98% of the time at home--which is good, because it is heavy. if you travel a lot, I recommend a smaller and lighter laptop for that reason.

Toshiba PSU40U-039013 Satellite U405-S2854 13.3" Notebook
I was looking for a compact notebook to replace my old Sony Vaio and, after much research, decided on this laptop. I have not been disappointed, and am in fact very pleased with it.

The pros: it is fast, well designed, easy to use, and fairly compact. It's light too - not quite as light as the Sony 13 inchers - but for me that did not justify the insane increase in price for the Sonys. Also i like how it runs all my old XP programs without a hitch. It feels solid and well built, and the screen is nice and bright.

The cons: BEWARE! Amazon got the photo for this product wrong - it DOES NOT come with a fingerprint reader! If you are interested in that, there are other models in the u405 series that have it. Another thing that is not that great is the battery life. This model has the lower level battery, and probably won't last more than a couple of hours. Again, other models of the same series do have the bigger battery. So, if that's important to you, I would recommend going with

HP Pavilion dv2940se Notebook PC
I don't know how this laptop can be reviewed poorly. For one thing it is amazing on paper with 4 gigs ram and 320 gigs storage, and it really delivers on speed and performance. The battery life isn't the best, but at school or starbucks there should be outlets anyways. It is also a very nice looking laptop with all the best features. It has a very nice media center with attractive, backlit, touch sensitive buttons at the top. This even has a remote with convenient storage inside the laptop. It also works very well in terms of range and registering all clicks. When watching movies or listening to music the speakers sound very impressive for a laptop because it's altec lansing. I don't even need to hook it up to my standalone speakers. The keyboard isn't the best I've seen but it has a nice firmness to it and does what it should. Also it's nice how the ctrl key is in the corner and fn is moved to the right because that is what I'm used to from desktop keyboards. One of my only complaints

VAIO FW140E/W Intel Centrino 2 Core 2 Duo P8400 2.26GHz Notebook - Powder White
For the money, the Sony FW-139 has a fast processor and a great videocard. I also love the 16+ inch screen which might be a little smaller than a 17" screen... but the notebook is considerably lighter than 17" models. It allows me to maximize screen real estate without having to lug around a beast.

I have two gripes about this laptop though. The first is the placement of USB ports. The Sony comes with three and all of them are on the right hand side towards the very front. If you are right handed and use an external mouse, this becomes a very clumsy situation as your mouse cannot be that close to your laptop since all the usb devices plugged into the right side get in the way. I liked the design of my old HP laptop which had at least one USB port on the left handside so there was the option of plugging a usb hub into that area so that I wouldn't have hubs and flash drives all protruding from the right hand side. The HP also have the DVD drive towards the front and the USB hubs towards

Toshiba PSU40U-039013 Satellite U405-S2854 13.3" Notebook
I purchased this laptop a month ago and I am very satisfied. It is thin and very light, and also it is stylish! Its size is perfect because it is small enough to take it with you everywhere and also you can work accurately on it (you can read the letters because their size is not too small). I highly recommend toshiba, this brand is forever, I changed my old toshiba because I got bored with it, but it still works perfect.

Satellite M305D-S4828 AMD Turion X2 Ultra Dual-Core ZM-80 2.10GHz Notebook
I just purchased this laptop this week, but am already thrilled with it. The HDD is large enough to meet the needs of most users, and the speed and graphics should make all but dedicated gamers happy. The laptop does get warm while running, but so have all my previous Toshibas so I am used to this weakness. Battery life could definitely be better, especially if you hope to be truly mobile, but I've had no problems just plugging in at the coffee shop etc. The machine weighs less than half what my old laptop did so it truly is more portable for me. This would be a great choice for a college student- small enough to carry back and forth to the library or classroom, powerful enough to last the four years of school. I highly recommend it!
