Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R3RM83V7DHZIBQ My name is Michael Manna and I host the T4 Show. It's a site that covers all technology news as well as performing podcasts and videos. I just received my MacBook Pro today and shot a quick tour. I haven't had a chance to fully review it yet, but I want to make a comment about Amazon Prime. It is the BEST. I ordered the MBP with 1 day shipping for $3.99 on Saturday, assuming it would be delivered on Tuesday. It arrived Monday before 10am. This is not the first time that has happened. I am a huge proponent of Amazon Prime, especially for Christmas shopping. Now I can play with my new MacBook Pro and not get bumped and shoved at the malls. Prime is the best!

This review is for the MB470LL/A (2.4GHZ CPU, 2GB Memory, 250GB Hard Drive) MacBook Pro released in late 2008. I bought this machine for my wife who had been using Windows machines for years, but never really "got into" them. I thought that Mac, known for its superior usability and user interface design might be a better choice for her. The rest of this review is in her words.
Let me begin by saying the following: I am a non techie, first time laptop owner. I have not owned any previous Macs, and all my previous experience is from a Windows PC. What I wanted from a computer was a place to keep all my photos, music, stories (I enjoy writing), etc; nothing extreme, just the everyday stuff that most people probably use their computer for. Why I wanted a laptop was because I have a little girl (9 months currently) and I wanted to be able to write from anywhere while still being able to keep an eye on her. So please take everything I write with this info in mind.
I had heard that

The new MacBooks were out and boy was I ever excited. I watched Steve Jobs' performance, saw the machines were really and truly to die for, just like he was saying they were. These were the next best thing since sliced bread. I had to have one and I had to have it now. I went right online to the Apple store and ordered mine right up. Then I did my last backup of my fifteen inch MacBook, a machine I really loved, but I was going to love the new one so much more, so backup complete, I put my baby on eBay and seven days later I packed it up and shipped it out.
And for a whole two days I was sans MacBook, but then I got the knock. The FedEx guy was at the door with my new MacBook. I was one happy girl. Okay, I was a little disappointed to see I couldn't hook my new baby up to my twenty-three inch Apple Cinema Display, because Apple changed the connection on the new MacBooks and they didn't supply an adapter and only one company makes those adapters. Guess who? You guessed it. Apple! Was this

I just purchased the pro yesterday at my local Apple Store. I have had it for less then 24hrs so far, and I love it. I was going to get the high end Macbook, and then at the last minute decided on the low end Pro upgraded with 4GB of Memory. I am so glad I did. It is so fast, and powerful. The display is what made me make the final choice. It is still very portable. It weighs the same as my black macbook, and is thin. It would be very easy to just to throw in my backpack and be on my way. Also the firewire. It was going to be the easiest way to transfer all my data from my old black macbook to the pro. It only took and hour and a half, and I have all my information. I didn't have to do anything, just started it up and began to play. I didn't have Leopard on my old one, and I love it so far. It is easy and the graphics and set up are great. I love the stacks options, and the lighted keyboard. I also love how the controls for the dashboard, screen brightness, keyboard brightness,

The new MacBook Pro is a significant new laptop, aka MBP, Apple's new unibody manufacturing makes the MBP solid. Just holding the MBP you can feel the quality. And this is just my external impression.
Looking inside the MBP you'll be pleased, from the wonderful, full sized back lit keyboard, the super drive, the array of ports, the connecting options, and the new screen. I love the new glossy screen, the colors are so vibrant, the best display screen I have seen on a laptop.
Perhaps the best thing about the new MBP. Is the software. Staring with Mac OSX, the operating system, clearly the best operating system available. And not just my opinion check out what the industry pundits have to say about OSX. Also included is Apple's well received creative programs, iTunes, iPhoto, and others.
I feel in love with Apple products, after many years of struggling with Windows, just try out the new MBP. I have a feeling you'll love the experience.

The new MacBook Pro has some significant advantages over the old one. The new case design is attractive and solid. The keyboard is crisp and responsive. The hard drive is as easy to access as on every other notebook on the market (as opposed to requiring complete disassembly of the machine with the old model). The new NVIDIA 9600 graphics adds a lot of 3D horsepower.
There are some significant drawbacks as well. The video output for connecting an external monitor is only compatible with one monitor at the moment. Connecting to the kinds of monitor that people actually own will require the purchase (and carrying) of an additional $30 adapter. Or two, if you need to connect to both VGA and DVI monitors.
The new MacBook Pro actually has two video adapters; the NVIDIA 9400 and 9600. The system uses the 9400 by default, which is less powerful than the 9600 but uses less power. The 9400 is an integrated adapter without its own memory; it uses 256MB of the system RAM. The problem is

This is a fantastic machine. Sure, glossy screens aren't ideal for everyone (anyone near any light), but this computer is magnificent.
It's as speedy as you could want in a portable, along with being thin, light, and beautiful to look at (in my opinion).
It handles Photoshop like a champ, as well as Final Cut Studio 2, and even ran Crysis at mostly high settings in XP Pro (had to drop the shadows a little to get 30-45 FPS average).
If you're in the market for a mac, this is a great machine. If you're looking to do any sort of photo work with it you already know that you should reallly have it in a setting where you can control the light.

Apple's site and other reviews provide the essential information on what was upgraded in this new MacBook Pro (two graphics systems; machined from solid aluminum; new industry-standard DisplayPort video out; new trackpad; other minor changes/upgrades).
But why get this computer rather than the much less expensive MacBook that appears almost identical?
1. The MacBook LCD display is poor. It is not just a smaller version of the MacBook Pro LCD display. It has washed-out blacks, poor contrast, limited viewing angles, and less vibrant colors. This is a huge difference. I confirmed this with a side by side comparison in the Apple Store (and the store staff member agreed), and you can find further discussion at gizmodo dot com (gizmodo.com/5063492/macbook-and-macbook-pro-dual-review).
2. The MacBook Pro's excellent new graphics chip (NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT) can be used to speed up all operations (not just graphics) when the new Apple operating system (Snow Leopard) is released in January.

Apple is notorious for constantly updating their products, more or less to keep up the status quo on their products. The new Macbook Pro is no exception. This beautifully constructed laptop is a work of art in many ways in which i will detail.
SCREEN
The MBP has had a beautiful screen for as long as i can remember and this new model is no exception. LED lit means that it is "instant on". when you open the lid, there is no warm up time like there is with other screens like LCD ect. The colors pop and are extremely vibrant and true. If you have seen an older MBP screen, you've seen them both, kind of. The new screen is all glass. The glass extends to the very outer edge of the lid, leaving no empty space. Simply put, you can't find a better screen, not even on a Sony machine (and i love sony also).
KEYBOARD
The new MBP has an updated keyboard. The first thing you will notice is that the keys are black as apposed to the old silver. The black adds a nice touch because it accents

This is not a review of this specific model but of Compaq service. I purchased a Presario F762NR four months ago. The screen has now failed. I returned it to Compaq for repair and they refuse to honor the warranty unless I buy an additional warranty. The cost to replace the screen is $2 less than what I paid for the laptop. I have owned many Compaq products in the past and currently have 4 in the house. Compaq service used to be excellent; things have changed. I will no longer purchase any Compaq product and recommend that you consider the risks involved.

I spent a lot of time researching laptops in my price range and finally went with this one. The 3 GB of ram is fantastic and the video card, while not top of the line, is a class 3 card. The other one I was looking at, also made by HP, had a class 1 video card (the lowest rating) and cost $100 more. I am running games that are not super new, but still require a decent video card and there is no problem with them. Some of the settings are turned off or down, but the game still looks great. This one also had more hard drive space as well. There are a couple of things that I do want to mention, but they are not enough to not give it a score of 5.
The DVD drive door clicks loudly as it pops out and when you push it back in. I am used to it now, but it freaked me out a bit the first few times. And if you run it on high performance (I do since almost always plugged in) it can get very hot. Since I use a lap desk again not too bad of an issue, but just wanted to let people know.

Got this from competitor for considerably cheaper - but it's amazing! The 3Gb of Ram and dedicated NVidia 8200M video card really make it a nice, Vista-friendly laptop. Add in the card reader, wireless G, and Litescribe DVD burner, and it's hard to complain.
Stop whining about the webcam! It's $20 difference - review the laptop, folks!!!

I really like this laptop but I was very dissapointed it did not have the webcam as represented in the photos. I've notified amazon - will post the resolution they give me.

This was my first transition to a Mac from using windows based PC for most of my life. This is a super user friendly computer that has tons of hardware and software to do whatever you like. Though I am just getting to know the in's and out's of the macbook world, I can already tell that I will be an Apple fan for life. The new Leopard OS X is by far the best OS that I have used. Queit, portable and is just sleek looking. What else can I say......I love this MACBOOK PRO

Fantastic Notebook. Switched from PC, and what a joy. The small learning curve is worth it. This notebook is Quality. Installed Parallels to run SolidWorks under Windows - and it works great in full screen mode. Have been on the road with this notebook for nearly a month, and it is a joy. So glad I am not traveling with my PC.

This review will be very short as it only concerns the choice of display. You have the option of buying a glossy or a standard display, and there is a big difference. The colors on the glossy display are outstanding and if your primary goal is to look are photographs, glossy may be your best choice. But glossy displays reflect light from the room, and many people (including me) get headaches if they use the notebook for a few hours in a well-lit room. In contrast, the macbook with the standard display has excellent color but the blacks are not as black and the whites are not quite as white. I have both, and vastly prefer the standard display when I have a lot of work to do. I will never get a glossy display again and unless you know what you are doing, I strongly recommend you avoid a glossy screen as well.

I purchased this computer to upgrade an older MacBook Pro (MBP). It is indeed a very significant upgrade to my 1st Generation MBP. I won't get into nitty gritty tech specs, as most people I know buy Macs because they want to use their computer, not the other way around.
The screen is a lot crisper. My understanding is that it's an LED-based screen, which results in increased battery life. On the topic of battery life, out of the box I'm getting 4.5-5.0 hours worth of battery life--dramatically better than the 3 hours max I got out of my 1st gen MBP.
The processing power is dramatically increased, as well. I never had trouble running anything on the old MBP until I got Parallels--I had to upgrade the old machine to 2 GB of RAM to get performance to an acceptable level and even then it was sluggish. Not the case with the 2.4 Ghz MBP with 2 GB of RAM.
Boot up time is significantly increased with this machine and the wireless seems to have extended range versus the prior version.

Bottom of the line MacBook Pro, 2.4 gHz. The trackpad features are totally cool and easy to use, the screen is bright and clear, computer is blazing fast. I'll buy more memory eventually from Crucial or OWC but it's great for now. Buy one!

As my second Apple purchase (first being an IPOD Touch 16GB) I am quite upset. This is my first Macbook and I am Impressed with several things. Performance, Build, Style, Sound, Touch pad responsiveness and Overall quality get perfect 10's in my book. However, the reason for the 2 star rating was the quality of the display.
Do a little researching on YELLOWING and you will know what I'm talking about. The first MBP I received from amazon had about 2 inches of yellow (stained) pixels at the bottom of the screen. I brought it to the apple store and the guy noticed it and offered a replacement, warning me that if I take the replacement I am risking getting a worse display. He opened a brand new box for me and the display had no yellowing but had BRIGHT SPOTS all over the place. This affected more of the middle of the screen so I went back a second time for my third replacement. This MBP has also disappointed me because it also has YELLOWING on about the bottom third of the screen.
