If you are buying a labtop for the first time or just replacing the one you have this computer has it all, and the price is not bad either. With the 4 gb DDR3 memory and the 500 md harddrive is more than enough for everyday needs. Also the built in Webcam, WiFi and 17.3" screen are a added bonus. With Windows 7 as the operating system, it is really no different than Vista. There are only a few difference between the 2 OS, should make for an easy transition.

I traded a HP THAT I BOUGHT AND OWNED LESS THAN 24 HOURS BECAUSE IT GAVE ME A BLUE SCREEN AND SHUT DOWN 3 TIMES , FOR THE BEST LAPTOP I HAVE EVER OWNED HANDS DOWN.

I am please about the new type of LED screen, but I was disappointed when I realized it didn't have a fire wire connection. Sad to think that a older model macbook has more to offer than my new updated macbook. I am still pleased about having a Intel CPU, instead of a G5. Now I can run Windows or Mac OS, but not a fan of Windows, but good to have the option.

Two computers went bad one in the first day the other 20 days later weak hard drive on the first one the second the motherboard went out, when the computer did work it had great display and could run most programs, touch pad is annoying to get use to but fixed that with a mouse, and usb ports have magnetic covers over them, DVD makes a lot of noise when it runs sounds cheap. the good it was a fast booting computer

I'm a soldier and I travel all the time, that being said I like a laptop that can play the latest games and perform well for a good price. This is my second
ASUS laptop and I am convinced that this company is waaaay better than DELL and their overpriced craptops. This is the cheapest laptop with a geforce 260m I can find and this card will play the latest games right now at maximum laptop resolution on high (Modern Warfare 2, Dragon Age Origins). It doesn't overheat like most gaming laptops and it is over-clockable to 15% extra performance (haven't overclocked while playing the new games yet though). Battery life last for about 2 hours (set on battery saving and mainly surfing the net with wireless on). I don't know anyone who uses a gaming laptop unplugged on performance settings (unless they are just ignorant). Someone mentioned the plug being a brick, they obviously haven't seen dell xps power brick or some of the alienware ones. The problems? This thing is a fingerprint magnet (grrrr).

Pros:
Easy setup right out of the box.
Mobile broadband connected to AT&T right away.
Much quieter fan than my Compaq presario.
Windows 7 is nice.
Cons:
You have to burn you own recovery disks? Come on HP spend $5
Weak internal graphics card.
Sleep(Standyby) is iffy it works sometimes.

Iv had this laptop for about 2 weeks and i love it even though it should have included a illuminated keyboard and at least a 8 or 10 cell battery. The laptop takes about 5 Min to load from start up (might be because i have internet security and antivirus) The Screen is amesome very clear the keyboard is big and easy to use only con is the side keys that YOU WILL hit from time to time windows 7 rocks. The blu-ray player on the system is also cool even though it takes longer to load then my ps3.Iv since upgraded to a 12 cell battery and i get about 4 hours of use others with this laptop might wanna do that is your going to be away from a plug with this toshiba

I bought this laptop a little over a week ago and I absolutely love it! It was set up at best buy and was ready to go when I walked out of the store, it couldn't have been easier! It is easy to use and the blue ray is unbelievable! I bought the cord to connect it to my hdtv and it looks great on the big screen too! if you want a laptop under $1000, this is the one! You can't find a better product for the price! Enjoy! I am!

It was between this and a macbook pro. The entry level macbook pro had the exact same specs but a smaller hard drive. But the pro does have the SD slot and firewire capabilities. For 200 extra dollars, I just didn't think those features were worth it since I have never used firewire in my life and the SD slot is only a minor inconvenience.
I switched from PC to MAC, this is my first mac ever. I love it. There's just so many small things that it does so well. You have to try it out yourself. And although the specs aren't as good as some PC's in the price range, you wont be able to tell because this operating system is so fast. No hang ups or anything so far. So many cool features and the trackpad is amazing. Also, battery life is 10 times (literally) better than my old Dell. I recommend this for sure.

For those people who don't have a clue about ASUS, it is a brand that is mostly used by enthusiasts, overclockers, hardcore gamers, and really techie people. Why do we support it? When you open an ASUS computer, every inch of it are made of premium parts. Unlike those other brands that are made of generic parts. How do I know? I'm a consultant.
ASUS and MSI are the only brands that can withstand overclocking out of the box. What's best about ASUS is what's under the hood. Although some might say it's no aesthetically pleasing to the eye, but pound per pound it will beat any machine when it comes to reliability and performance.
I'll only turn my head on ASUS and Apple laptops, that's it.

Unbeatable value. Bought as a "desktop replacement" for my son in sophomore year. More than enough here to see him through to college. Especially good value when purchased with Office during the recent promotion.
Get something smaller if you need to travel (we have a shared family netbook for days when one of us has to travel with a PC).

Overall, it gets me from point A to point B, but the graphics card is pretty weak, its rated as a 3.4 for games. i do play a few games here and there, and my games dont really display right (AOE2). i probably should have spent a couple hundred more on something with a better graphics card.

Overall, I love this laptop! It's fast, pretty light-weight, and easy to use. For the price I paid....excellent product! I like the glossy look, but don't like the smudges that you can see after you touch it. But that is a minor thing. Overall, again, great computer!!

Was looking to make the move from PC to Mac for a while.
It only takes a quick look and a little research to understand how great this machine is. I opted for the Core2 Duo 3G version for budget reasons. A I couldn't justify the cost difference of a higher processor for the things I use it for.
3G is more than plenty.
I now do most of my daily things on the mac, and run Fusion in the background for non portable pc applications.
One machine for all my chores and saves soooo much space. Wish it had been a bit more economical, but still happy with it. The 27" screen is out of this world too!

I bought this computer when Windows 7 was out. I changed my HPDV2000 and i am very happy. The screen is big and wide, very good for using parallel view windows, now very easy to do with 7.
Keyboard is very confortable, and it's temperature is stable all the time, not as my last laptop.
I specially recommended for entertaiment user, casual gamers, and everyday computing.
Great choice.
My best buy.

I've been a pc user for years just like all the others above. Like they said it took longer to unhook the pc and get it out of the way then it did to set this thing up and surf the net for the first time. It's really easy to use, but I still have some learning to do. The last mac i played with was 12 years ago in school. The screen is beautiful, the sound could be better but what do you expect from built in monitor speakers lol. Thats why I have external speakers. As they mentioned the keyboard is kinda small, but you get used to it. I would like to have had a numeric keypad but oh well, maybe a little ways down the road I'll buy one. Well thats my two cents worth..
Oh yeah I bought mine at best buy, and it only cost 189 for 2 years replacement.

So Asus claims to boot up Windows on this computer in just 8 seconds. It's true I suppose, although the inital start was not as fast but that's understandable. My only complaint is there is an asus quick launch program at start up that totally threw me off. I was expecting windows and instead I got this other program, but I soon figured out that just by clicking continue you can proceed right into windows - there's also an option of removing that. Onto the laptop. It looks sexy. The blue LEDs, widescreen, and matte black surface make it look like something alien or top secret. There's a sticker on the laptop that reads "Altec Lansing Surround Sound." I grabbed a DVD (300) and wow! it's pretty cool. The wife was not happy her blue ray - reading VAIO had no way of keeping up. The USB ports are very accessible and well suited for either a right, or left handed person. So 1.3GHz clock per core gives you quite a bit of speed. The drives are fast also. I was playing a movie last night and dragged
