Panasonic Digital Camcorder with 60GB Hard Drive and 2.7" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Black/Silver
This was great for our recent vacation. The size is so convenient. We were also interested in automatic adjustment for the sun and it performed wonderfully. We have only used it for a short period but so far it is what we wanted.

Panasonic DMC-FX500K Lumix 10.1 Megapixel Digital Camera - Black
Just upgraded from the FX-35 and did quite a few tests yesterday. Overall, the FX-500 is an excellent camera but dollar for dollar you get a little more with the FX-35. That being said, I am selling my FX-35 and keeping the FX-500 (see eBay!) because some small specific differences weigh in favor of the FX-500 for me as a photographer, but not necessarily because the camera is better. There were a few primary issues I want to mention between the two cameras though.

First, the FX-500 is noticeably larger than the FX-35. I know specs are specs, but just the weight and feel make it larger and it is less comfortable in a shirt pocket. The bonus is that for those of us with larger hands it is more comfortable to use without always hitting buttons with your thumb. Second, the lens is not quite as wide as the FX-35. This could be a number of factors, but since we know the chip processes not only noise but some optical distortions (try comparing the RAW and JPEG versions of a few Lumix camera

Canon VIXIA 3.3MP High-Definition Digital Camcorder with Flash Memory - Black
First of all I'm quite sure that image-quality-wise it's the best camcorder one can buy below 2K. It is also probably the best compact camcorder and a great value.
Downloading videos from internal memory is more painful than it should be and the included decoder cannot run smoothly enough on my new dual-core desktop. Some controls are well designed ... but these are fairly minor drawbacks.
One serious problem with it is the lens. It is very narrow. Horizontally is it's about 42mm equivalent at its widest end. This is bad in itself but is particularly problematic for a 16:9 camera. Basically you need to be about 20 feet away to be able to film a 5 foot person in full height.
I imagine that's the price for a fairly useless 12x zoom.
A wide-angle lens is a must. It does improve things a bit (by 0.7 factor) but at the price of significant distortion, loss of (so precious) light, extra bulk, about $150. It also ruins the nice look of the camera.
One more necessary accessory is 2 hour battery.

Olympus EVOLT 10.0-Megapixel Digital SLR Camera - Black
I have used nearly every OLYMPUS dSLR (exception being the E-300 & E-400). I use the Olympus E-3 for my paid work and find it a superb camera. But like many of you, I want a camera with SLR quality to carry around minus the weight of my workhorse E-3. Enter the E-420, an absolute jewel of a camera whose IQ is top notch especially when compared to its market segment (Canon Rebels, Nikon D40/D60/D80, Pentax K200D, etc.). The gradation is fantastic, rivaling even my E-3. And coupling this, the world's smallest dSLR body with the new Pancake lens (25mm f/2.8, equivalant to 50mm in Full Frame) and you have a near 'pocketable' (depends on the size of the pocket) dSLR capable of taking phenomenal photos. Now, is it a world beater? No. But it isn't meant to be. It is meant for folks who want SMALL, but for whom Image Quality MATTERS. And here, it scores a perfect 10 (or 5 STARS in this case). As to the negative comment about focus points (you want 51 focus points, go spend 5K on the

Samsung 46" 1080p 120Hz Flat-Panel LCD HDTV
I'm not very technical in nature so i won't get into that. What I will say is after doing my research I chose this TV and went and looked at it a best buy and I was sold. I have had the 50" Pioneer plasma for over a year and it's beautiful however, if an LCD was going to convert me, this would be one of them. More importantly, I would like to mention the experience of buying through AMAZON. I was sceptical paying all this money for a TV through the mail but I saved about $400 (including tax) from the local BB so I thought I would give it a try. In my case, when the TV arrived, the delivery guy brings it inside, opens the top half of the box, hooks it up to a scource to ensure it works and then left. Way more than expected. Now for the icing on the cake. I recently learned about AMAZON's post-order price guarentee. They will refund any reduction in price for 30 days after shipment and let me tell you, in my case it was like watching the stock market (4 price changes in a day). Anyway,

Kensington 33429 LiquidAux Auxiliary Car Kit with Remote Control
I have fallen in love with the Kensington LiquidAUX. It is ingeniously designed and is an inexpensive option for safely using your iPod while in the car. If you want the aesthetically most pleasing solution to integrate your iPod and iPod controls into your car stereo, this is not it. This device is specifically designed for the individual, like myself, who had their iPod sitting on the seat next to them or on the dashboard, connected to their stereo via an auxiliary input or cassette adapter. So contrary to some reviews, an aux-in on your car stereo is not mandatory for use, making this device usable in older cars with a tape deck and newer cars with the aux-in port.

In my mind, the primary benefits of using the liquidAUX instead of simply manually controlling your iPod while in the car are two-fold: 1) Safety, 2) Ease of use.

Safety: I consider myself a pretty competent multi-tasking driver, but even still anything that keeps my hands on the steering wheel and my eyes on the road has

Pioneer KURO 50" Class 1080p Flat-Panel Plasma HDTV
Just got my 5020 last week and this is the best TV that I have seen. I did a lot of research at high end stores and the side by side comparisons with the older 5010 model vs. any other tv (lcd or plasma) wasn't even close. I was looking at the newest Samsung plasmas and LCD's (Toc) but the black levels on the Pioneer really made a big difference. I even asked my 10 year old son to pick the tv with the best picture and he chose the Pioneer. I really wanted to buy the Samsung LCD (Toc) but couldn't get myself to do it knowing the Pioneer's picture was better. I think I would have regretted it later.
The 5020 is thinner than the 5010 and has the newest HDMI 1.3a inputs. I hooked this TV to a brand new Onkyo 606 which is HDMI 1.3a compliant, Time Warner DVR, and a PS3. All I needed was 3 HDMI cables for the entire system.
This TV has the best black levels i have seen which makes the colors really pop and gives more depth to the picture. The TV makes the high def content more 3 dimensional.

FUJIFILM FinePix 10.0-Megapixel Digital Camera - Black
Ever since I started using digital cameras, I have been an avid Fuji devotee. When my last camera broke from being just dropped once, I knew I needed a durable camera, especially with a lens cover! This was has delivered from day one with crisp, clear, and vibrant pictures as well as a vast improvement of video quality!! I could not be happier. The only thing that was a bit of an adjustment for me was the size - it's so skinny, but that was a small thing to adapt to when there are so many other good things about it!!

Samsung 46" 1080p 120Hz Flat-Panel LCD HDTV
As with most electronics you get what you pay for. I did a lot a research for a good sized HDTV and the review consensus is that this new line of Samsung TV's have a better picture than the Sony's. I would have to agree (of course because I own a Samsung now). I have a PS3 hooked up for blu-ray and DirecTV for hidef satellite. Yes the picture can appear 'grainy' depending on the source and the quality of the original HD picture but with the correct settings you can hardly notice. Blu-ray planet earth even has a few spots where the picture quality wasn't as great as the other 96% of the show and if you nit pick you can see some pixelation. The AMP 120hz setting, I found, really does help when a mountain peak is moving across the screen. Use the 'demo' mode to see the difference when a large stationary object is moving across the screen.

You need to calibrate the picture for the source you're using to get the 'great' picture. There's a 1260+ post thread on the AVS forums dedicated

Nikon 12.3-Megapixel Digital SLR Camera - Black
Everyone else has already covered the details, so I'll just add my voice to the chorus. Particularly, I am amazed at the photos shot at ISO3200 and the fact that you can get something truly usable at ISO6400.

Also, the feel of it in your hands is terrific.

Kensington 33429 LiquidAux Auxiliary Car Kit with Remote Control
My 22 year old son is the iPod/iPhone guru in the house, and he's had some experience with adapter units for his in-car stereo. So I figured, who better to put this through the paces but for him? Overall, he loved the Kensington LiquidAUX Auxiliary Car Kit as he has both an iPod and iPhone. The setup was out of the box simple... I watched as he had it hooked in and functioning in virtually no time. Volume and sound quality was fine, and the extension cord was long enough for him to place his iPhone anywhere he wanted to. What really appealed to him was that he can use this as an iPhone charger. So on those long road trips, he no longer has to worry about whether he packed the charging cable any more. He really likes that...

The only drawback was the steering wheel remote. Conceptually, great idea. He loved being able to control the stereo without taking his eyes off the road. Unfortunately, it's also illegal to have a device like that attached to the steering wheel. In addition,

Western Digital My DVR Expander eSATA 500GB External Hard Drive
What can you say - for a device like this, "scoring" is it easy. It either works as advertised, or it doesn't - this thing works as advertised. It's easy to hook-up/install, or it is not - the directions couldn't be clearer, and it was a snap to hook-up.

I have a Comcast DVR Scientific Atlanta 8300HD. I was constantly running into low space issues. No matter how hard I tried to keep up with "house keeping" it always seemed to run at or near capacity. And with the 2008 Summer Olympics coming up, I was finally motivated to find a solution.

I did few Google searches, and yielded some promising results. Other users of the SA-8300HD had the same problem and came up with varying solutions - build you own eSATA external drive, or buy an out-of-the-box device. I'm pretty tech savvy, having built a number of PCs and external USB drives. The cost of DIY-ing a similar device was about $100-110, delivered. For $40 more, I could get a pre-built and certified device. I didn't want any hassles, so

Samsung NV24HD 10.2 MP HD Digital Camera ? Black
I'm a professional videographer and I think this is a really special item. I bought it for the HD video features. I was able to edit the video on Premiere Pro CS3. I've only had it for a day, but I put it through a few tests. I was surprised by how good the video quality is, and the colors looked great. The sound was surprisingly good (nothing special, but much better than expected). I think the wide angle lens on it is also very good. It's obviously not a professional video camera, but I can imagine using it for very low profile shooting and to capture video when I'm out and don't want to carry a camera with me. I can also imagine using it in situations where a very small light weight camera would be essential. I haven't put it through enough test to decide if I would ever use any of the footage on one of my projects, but it might fit a niche in a project that my larger video cameras can't fill. I really like that it has a wide angle lens, and anyone buying this should realize

Nikon 10.2-Megapixel Digital SLR Camera - Black
Okay, it's 10.2 megapixel, it gives you great pictures, and has plenty of options.
And it's one of the cheapest D-SLRs on the market right now,
There are downsides. The flash does not have a commander mode for using wireless flashes, there are only 3 autofocus zones, Nikon does not make an extended battery grip for this model, and the camera will only autofocus with the AF-S and I believe AF-I lenses. Older lenses are still usable, but only with manual focus.
Ok, all of the bad stuff is now out of the way. Everything is pretty straight forward to set up to take good pictures. I have personally seen point and shoots that have less intuitive controls without having all of the versatility that this camera provides.
The included lenses are very good considering that they come in a package that costs less than $1000 with the body. The Image Stabilization is very good, and optical quality is high for the price range.
Personally, I see very little reason to get an advanced point and shoot

Canon EOS 12.8-Megapixel Digital SLR Camera - Black

Magellan Maestro 4250 GPS
The 1st electronic gift my user manual avoiding, tech phobic wife not only uses, but raves about. There was close to joy in her voice when telling me about finding a shorter route, bypassing traffic jams, and even taking a more scenic route.

Several product rating website says there are other GPSs as good or better (although the 4250 is highly rated), but after seeing my wife's satisfaction I'm very glad I selected this one.

Olympus Stylus 8.0-Megapixel Digital Camera - Blue
I have been looking for a camera like this for a good while and have done research on top of research before I settled on the Olympus Stylus 840. I read all sorts of reviews and this camera had a 100% satisfaction in all aspects. And well it should. It takes great pictures, is so very easy to use and is just a great compact little camera. I have had 2 good Kodak cameras during my search for the perfect camera and this camera far out performs both of the Kodaks I have had, and one of them was 12 megapixels, but this Olympus with 8 megapixels takes better photos. The Kodak AA battery life is not good but the Olympus LI-42B battery lasts a long time and are rechargeable on the charger that comes with the camera. I bought an extra battery to change out when one runs down but you will find they last a good long time. I also like the Olympus XD picture cards and it will hold all the photos you will need on a long outing. I bought the 1GB card which is more than sufficient. This camera has a lot

Samsung 46" 1080p 120Hz Flat-Panel LCD HDTV
The TV is amazing. I looks like you're peaking through a window. It's more than the resolution (which is perfect), it is the depth of color and the motion. It is so real it takes a little time to get used to (and you can remove the effect if it bothers you), but it will blow friends and family away (which is always nice).

The sound is fine (if you get the 750 series it has a built-in woofer), the remote isn't perfect, but its no where near as bad as some of the reviews would lead you to believe.

It also handles standard definition TV very well (some LCDs don't look so hot). Its probably the best TV on the market as of right now, and it isn't overly expensive, if you are struggling to decide, just click BUY NOW, you won't be disappointed.

Samsung 46" 1080p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV
I was replacing my old Sony 42A10 Grand Wega Rear Projection LCD. That's an older set and the black levels were notoriously bad. After some calibration, I was able to get a decent picture out of it. Apparantly this line had been lemons though, as optical engine after optical engine being replaced had failed. Time for a new TV.

I was honestly going to go for a Panasonic Plasma originally. Plasmas are known for great contrast levels. I've seen 30,000:1 for some plasma contrast levels, but LCD's are catching up and Samsung this year brings out an affordable set that's below the popular $2000 budget, and makes it a breeze to use.

Out of the box the color levels aren't bad at all. Grey scale is actually not too far off from being accurate with the 'movie mode' setting, which takes off most artificial effects to the picture which would really make colors pop un-naturally and crush darker shades of black so you lose some minor detail. Of course, I did a calibration for this set based
