This has got to be one of the most underrated cameras around. Samsung has done a superb job of designing and building this little beast. It has many, MANY features that are fun and easy to use. The lighting on the automatic mode is very accurate, the HD video capture is excellent, and the all manual mode is an overall good experience. The one thing that IS lacking is the lack of a panorama assist function, but that's the only flaw I can find. Overall, this is the best semi-point-and-shoot camera I've ever owned!

I own quite a few compact cameras so I got a chance to do some comparisons. I compared the pictures quality between the Panasonic FX01 (old), Canon IS870, Panasonic LX3, and this one. I just compared the IQ in various ISOs in good lighting. I didn't bother testing in bad lighting since I know the noise would be at least a stop worse in bad lighting so I didn't bother. Needless to say, the Panasonic FX01 is the oldest and the IQ is the worst with only usable ISO up to 200. This was the camera that I wanted to replace so I compared just to confirm for myself that replacing it was the right choice. In good lighting using either ISO 80 or 100, the Samsung TL34HD had the most detail since it has the most pixels at 14.7 MP. The Panasonic LX3 and the Canon 870 were very close. However, I had to bump down noise reduction to -2 (all film modes) on the LX3 to get the full details. The Canon kept almost all the details at the default settings. It's probably a three-way tie at ISO 200 since

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Well, I'm going to see if I can return this camera. I took a few videos, this time with audio and the audio was AWFUL; broken at best and completely gone a lot of the time. I tried several videos, with and without using the zoom feature. It's really bad!!!!
I've read some disturbing reviews online, so I was a bit pleased to see the quality of the photos and the videos. I captured two videos, about one minute each and transferred them to my computer with a card reader. The videos are just fine. I find them to be as good as most other digital camera videos. They were smooth, the zoom works well and focuses quickly, though your image is out of focus during the zooming. The photos are crisp and shape, the flash works really well. As far as image quality, I'm as pleased with this camera as I am my twice as expensive Canon SD950IS.
The camera itself is a bit larger than I expected, but still a pocket size. The body is all light weight plastic and even feels and looks a bit cheap.

Great features! Go to love the smile detection, wide angle touch screen is pretty awesome. I would have given a 5 star but the pop up flash bothers me a little but that is purely aesthetics just kind of a drag to have to close it after power is off.

This is a neat little camera. It's a good backup for a SLR and works as a quick "pull-out" camera for those split second moments you'd like to catch on film (but I'm supposing 'film' isn't exactly the best choice of word here). Auto-sensing technology helps to seek out focus points for group pictures and the built-in menu is easy to navigate.
I'm not really sure what kind of math they're using to come up with a 14.7MP output but the pictures are clear nonetheless.
The movies are smooth as well--displaying nicely on a 720-capable screen.

I had resigned myself to having to spend $600 or so to get a camera to record HD video with my son. When I saw the DXG for about $200 (I got it for $199 at B&H) I thought I'd give it a try (the reviews elsewhere are better than here).
If you go in expecting flawless 3CCD quality 1080p video from this camera, then move along, the key is value for the dollar. My one criticism is that the anti-shake feature is not available in 1080p mode, effectively making 1080p a tripod-only affair. However, in 780p mode the camera shoots very good video, even in low light (it gets grainy in near-darkness, but that seems typical). The video is Mac-compatible and is stored in h.264 mpeg-4 files which play right off the SD card in quicktime and are importable into iMovie HD. Each clip you shoot is stored as a separate file, which makes editing easier, as some clips can get thrown out before the editor is fired up and the clips are imported.
I found this camcorder really fun to shoot with. it is very

I recently acquired this camera and it has received mixed reviews around the web and not so good reviews here on Amazon. But after having spent some time with this camera, I have a very positive impression of it. Instead of blowing up the picture to 500 percent and looking for purple fringing, I looked at it from the aspect of "how good is an 8 by 10 printout? And, "How good does it look on a TV or a computer screen? Real issues and not the technical aspects of the output.
And to me, the photos it takes are excellent. Crisp and clean, with good color representation - not extreme or unnatural. The pictures have a decent amount of blowup range before becoming pixelated. Slightly ;less than a decent SLR, but still good. The flash is a bit underpowered, but still is sufficient for most needs. The touch screen is a superb idea. Most people won't bother with the manual comtrols of a point and shoot becasue they are usually buried in menus and difficult to get to. But the on screen system used

Cons (see details below):
1) Freezing intermittently (requiring the battery to be removed)
2) Power wasting design (exposed button powers up camera)
3) Strap missing cinch
4) HDMI Cradle not available
5) Remote not available
6) Touch screen balky sometimes
7) Very poor support from Samsung
Pros:
1) Good photos and video
2) Small dimensions
3) Remote possible
I bought the TL34HD since I needed a small small point and shoot type camera with a remote. The camera works reasonable well but it has significant problems that you should be aware of. It's sad that Samsung would release a camera with such good specs, a new touch interface and then give such poor attention to the user experience.
The biggest problem is that the are two power on buttons - the most exposed button on the camera is one and the recessed power button is the other, but only the recessed button powers it down - I know its wacky. It makes me wonder if they did any user testing at all.

COMPANY: Some reviews of DXGUSA products mention that DXG is a United States company. In some of the advertisements for DXG you might even notice a California location. DXG does maintain an office in "City of Industry" California, however, according to the DXGUSA web site their products are manufactured in Taiwan, ROC (Republic of China). It is a common practice for overseas companies to have a local US office and add the suffix "USA" to its name, however, the consumer should understand that buying DXG is not supporting the red, white and blue.
Contributing to any country of origin confusion is DXG's executive board. Most people who would communicate with DXGUSA would do so through the sales, marketing or customer service departments. There you will find persons of responsibility with the names of Goldberg, delRosario and Castillo, respectively, which lends to an American image. Digging slightly deeper you'll find that those company executives with positions of major authority have Asian

I am a college student and I saved for just about 2 years soI could get this camera and it is by far more than Iexpected. The learning curve is a bit steep but you stillget phenomenal footage out of the box. I am so excited toget to work with this great piece of equipment. B&H was sogreat to deal with and I would definitely order from them again.

I've had this camera for almost 3 years now. This camera beats every other HD camera out there on the market that's under $30,000.
This camera will beat the RED CAMERA!!! With the Hydra modification (from REEL-STREAM) soon to be released this camera will be able to shoot 2k with 4:4:4 color.
Pros: P2 cards (This is sweet because the cards have no moving parts) 16GB cards are here, 32 GB are coming
You can shoot in high or slow motion
Quality built - I've never had anything go wrong with it.
........ I could have added more pros, but the above pros set it apart from the competition.
Cons: 4:2:2 color (why not 4:4:4, Panasonic could have made it 4:4:4! This does not make me happy)
non-removable lens (Because of this non-removable lens I need to pay extra for a 35mm adapter)
P.S. (Don't get me wrong, color is everything. This camera can shoot vivid colors like no other camera.)

Being a professional videographer/producer.... I anxiously awaited the release of the HVX200. Having rented the 100Kplus Varicam for 1500 per day plus 600 per day for the deck.... I was head over heals when I read about the HVX coming out. It's DVCPRO HD codec is Professional. Not HDV consumer quality codec.. but real big boy stuff here. Sure, it doesn't have interchangeable lense, and a 2/3 chip... but man it's Sexy. Man it delivers the goods for a very reasonable price. One week or more of renting the Varicam and this baby is mine. It's my daily shooter.. my hammer and it's allowing me to deliver broadcast quality results without breaking the bank. Great for indi filmmakers and those looking to up their quality without killing their savings. It's also REVOLUTIONARY. Truly Tapeless and that's a God send. Tape is DEAD. Film is nearly dead and this camera is the harbinger of good things to come. It's not a pick up and shoot cold kind of cam. There's a learning

To start, the manual controls are amazing. The Panasonic manual layout is the best by far- total control of all zooming, and easy to use manual focus. The DOF is outstanding. One of my favorite features is the auto button for white balance. It seems more accurate than other camera I've used. The audio capture is nearly perfect. I've used ambient band music, along with prerecorded music on a soundtrack and could hardly tell the difference. Oh yeah, most amazing picture quality ever. Overall great camera. In my opinion, the best on the market.

Overall this is a great piece of equipment. The quality ofthe picture is outstanding and the flexibility to shoot inmany formats (1080i, 720p and 480i along with several othersis unmatched in this price range). It takes some adjusting(and investment) to get used to the tapeless workflow, butI'm liking it more all the time. Being able to bypass thecapture step is a real time saver. Also, the ability to shoot DV on miniDV tape as analternative to the P2 card is a plus.

Beautiful results, and the WOW factor is what you will get from customers and anyone that sees the footage with the purchase of this camera. We have (3) DVX 100B and now (3) HVX200. Panasonic just needs to change the low resolution on the LCD readout and then they will have a true winner. Maybe on the upgrade... Way to go Panasonic...520 Productions, LLCArizona

Our company has purchased four of these HVX200's and we're very happy with their performance thus far. We're shooting a half a dozen HD (720P at 24fps) shows and all of our users seem happy and impressed. Be warned, however, that this camera is BIG and is not easy to use as a hand-held, particularly if you're using it with an external monitor with related battery.
The images we're capturing with the HVX200 are great. (Lighting, of course, is vital. These are not low-light cameras.) Learning how to shoot tapeless onto the P2 cards is a bit daunting at first, but, once you catch on, it's not difficult and has been reliable. We set up a laptop on location and use it to import the footage into Final Cut. Shooting at 720P/24fps, we can get about 20 minutes of video on each of the 2 P2 cards. So, it is optimum to have 4 of the cards for EACH camera. (So you can be loading the media onto the hard drives while shooting on the other two cards. It takes about 15 minutes to load one full

We just received an AG-HVX200 and I tell you, it's got more menus than a powerhouse Chinese restaurant. It's not for people who enjoy the pyro-friendly camera; there are menus with the depth of a 15-layer cake. The reason is because the camera can be configured into over 100 different ways of shooting.
The HVX200 gives the new user a challenge to sink or swim, because it thrusts you into deep water. If you've ever shot with the DVX100, you'll adapt to the HVX quite well, from other reviews I've read. I'm a still shooter for a major city daily newspaper, and we're moving towards high definition gear to shoot movie clips and pull frames for news print. With this in mind, the camera's color retention are quality. But I wish the configs were a bit simpler. It will take time to learn a new format of news-gathering, but I see the potential with this gear.
One big drawback that I see is that the menu buttons are on top of the camera, beside and beneath the handle. Try shooting in the field

Shot some 720p 24f on the cards and connected the camera to a 720p native 46 inch samsung monitor and was blown away..looks like the varicam. Color was as rich as it gets, detail incredible. Can't get any better for the money.

Film-like--not an exaggeration. Not just in image quality, but in manual control--gamma, frame rates, progressive vs. interlaced. As a DVX100A and B user, this camera took me two minutes to figure out. The shadow detail and limited depth of field are awesome. Color is great. Highlights, when blown, look just like video--what are you going to do? Transfer to computer is so fast and easy. As with DVX100, great on the wide end but you need the tele adaptor; all those manual features will require a lot of practice for the average camcorder user. I've had the opportunity to handle every one of the prosumer HDV cameras out there, and this is far and away the best, overall--if you like the Panasonic layout. Expect killer results. On the whole, even with the expense of the P2 cards, this is a VERY good deal.

Panasonic has proven itself again with this new HD CCD cam. They revolutionized the indie film industry with the DVX100 series, 24P and now this marvel. As attractive as Canon's XL-H1 looks, the HVX 200 is on my list of must have.
