No problems setting up... No problems returning from sleep.... no problems with time machine. I can play my iTunes library over my network through my iMac from the drive. Everything I wanted in the drive. The FW 800 is amazingly fast.

I purchased this notebook to replace my pre-existing Windows XP based laptop. Whenever I watched a movie and saw a celebrity working on a computer, it was always on a Mac. When you buy a notebook like this, you are buying a Hollywood Superstar.

SETUP
When you turn on the notebook, there is an initialization process to register your notebook and allow you to password protect the computer. Right out of the box, the Macbook Pro works well. It is accompanied by iLife and iTunes. I initially updated iTunes and updated the operating system after placing my information to work wirelessly.
Operation
The notebook is so easy to operate. As a Windows operator since the Windows 1.0 inception, it was not a steep learning curve. In lieu of the Control button, you push the Command button.
The touchpad is generous and the various mouse gestures are a welcome addition. The keyboard is full-sized and buttons are extremely comfortable.

I'm shocked but had the same experience as the other 1 star reviewer. Opened the box and found a used, scratched, device. Box was torn, surface of machine was covered in scratches. Kind of shocked - never had this problem before. Was shipped by Amazon.com (not a third-party vendor). Going back to them today. Very disappointed.

As has been mentioned on here and other sites (Tiger, New Egg, etc) this drive is from a great company with a great history, but this LEMON POS has gotta be weeks from being recalled.
Mine worked great under OSX with MacFUSE/NTFS-3G and XP for about 2 weeks. Then the little punk died along with 200gig or so of my data. The disk didn't move off my desk the entire time, no drops, knocks or otherwise.
I love Seagate and I really love their FreeAgent drives (which is why I bought this even after reading the negative reviews here and elsewhere) but this model is a LEMON! DO NOT PURCHASE THIS DRIVE! There's a reason other reviews have mentioned instant RMAs, these things have a high failure rate - hence the no questions asked returns.
Seagate: Recall this POS and reissue a new model with these issues fixed. This is sullying your good name!

As someone with about 20 years in IT, mostly on the server/desktop side, all Microsoft, I have to say that using my new Macbook pro has truly been a pleasure. I had considered getting a Mac for about a year and finally took the plunge a month or so ago. The setup was easy and using the computer itself is also easy. With parallels installed, I am still able to work in my PC based applications without any of the seeming lag that you normally see in any other virtualization product. I liked it so much, i recently bought my daughter a Macbook.

I write this review to urge you to steer away from purchasing this product. After reading the four positive reviews on Amazon, I was excited to dive in and place massive quantities of video and audio on my new, shiny, iPod-like designed Seagate drive. I opened the drive on December 23rd and started by backing up all of the data I currently have externally stored. That worked well enough but with fairly slow transfer speeds.
The real kicker is that today, December 27th, after 5 days of using my new drive, it has started to click loudly and I can no longer read the data from the drive. I have tried many different techniques to bring my drive back to life with no luck. Very depressing. I strongly encourage you to not purchase this hard drive despite the relatively low cost and high capacity. I did not drop, kick, or otherwise mistreat my new drive.
On a surprising note, I made the purchase from [...] through Amazon, and when I called them with my issue, they immediately sent a shipping

I ordered this drive because of the capacity and the price figuring that when it arrived I would simply reformat it as HFS+ and plug it into my Macintosh Network. The problem was that every time I tried to use Disk Utility to reformat it I kept getting an error (I forget the exact verbiage). Not only that but when I attached it to my PC running XP Home it wouldn't even recognize it as a hard drive - it thought it was a DVD drive.
I poked around on the Seagate website and found this troubleshooting procedure which solved my issue:
1. Open Finder > Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility
2. Click on the Partition tab
3. Click on the Current Volume Scheme drop-down menu and select One (1) partition.
4. Click Options. From the Partition Schemes provided:
5. Click on the GUID Partition Table radio button
-OR-
Click on the Apple Partition Map radio button
6. Click OK. Select other options as desired (e.g., Volume Name, Format, etc.).
7. Click Apply. The Partition Disk screen opens.

Although i've only had this up and running for a few days, it is exactly what i was looking for. The price was perfect, and the 320 gigs were more than my desktop initially came with (200). Using it is a breeze, just basic drag and drop for transfers or save as for new files. Really quite a breeze. I can't say how it'll hold up long term, but so far so good!

I have one wish for sellers of this product- provide some documentation on setup, especially internet setup. Zero documentation in the box...if you need help on setup, pay to have someone install because the vendor provides nothing otherwise.
ONCE I got it setup, the PC is an uncluttered dream. Quiet, fast and smooth running. We purchased this for a small biz and it runs Quickbooks, MS Office 07 and other apps much quicker than our last PC.
The speakers do not have the issues stated by another reviewer and the sound is great.
Overall, great value and quality.

I bought this because ConsumerSearch said that Seagate made the best-reviewed external HDs. Unfortunately, after 2 weeks of working OK, I suddenly started getting "delayed write failure" and $Mft errors. Those are very bad signs. I had already saved over 50GB worth of data on there, representing 2 weeks of tedious work. After hours of troubleshooting, I noticed that my data was accessible for a few minutes right after restarting the unit, so I spent all night repeatedly restarting the unit by pulling the power cord out and reinserting it, copying as much data as I could before it failed on me again, repeat over and over again. What a nightmare. When the auto shutoff feature was acting buggy from the beginning, I should have been wary. I'm going back to Buffalo. I have a Buffalo HD that's worked perfectly for 3 yrs, despite my having dropped it on the ground and damaging the case.

This external hard drive is wonderful. It was easy to setup and get started. I have instructed it to backup my required files on a daily basis and that's it. It works in the background without you knowing it is there. Couldn't recommend it enough.

There are a lot of external hard drives out there with the capacity of this one (1tb), but the firewire 800 and eSata connection sets it apart from most of them. I have no problems streaming HD movies while working on other large data files. And there has not been in single hick-up in the 900gb of data so far. I look forward to getting my second one and chaining them together.

I read all of Amazon and CNet's reviews before buying, both the positive and the negative. This new Macbook Pro is absolutely wonderful, incorporating many advantages over my first generation Macbook Pro, with no disadvantages that I have been able to find.
The new glossy LED backlit screen is excellent, clear and much brighter than it's CCF predecessor. It also uses less power, which accounts for the Macbook Pro's noticeably longer battery life, in spite of the fact that the Pro's new battery has been slightly downsized. Great new keyboard, and EXCELLENT trackpad. Performance is also faster. Easily accessible HDD. And, the most obvious benefit is its beautiful new design, which incorporates all of the excellent features of the first generation Macbook Pro, and then improves upon it. Great job Apple!
Perhaps some of the negative comments regarding the new glossy screen and trackpad were made before their new owners had a chance to fully appreciate these new features?
Very happy

This DVR Expander is almost too good to be true! I've had it for about 3 months now, and it continues to work like a charm. The setup was extremely easy - simple plug and play. I just followed the directions and it took all of about 2 minutes.
Absolutely no negative issues to report; I disagree with the other review about it being loud - our unit is completely quiet, just like a normal DVR cable box.
We had some initial concerns about whether or not the eSATA port on our box was deactivated, but this was not the case and it turns out this hard drive is completely compatible with our setup. We're running a Cisco RNG 200 DVR HD cable box with Comcast service.
After rebooting the box with the hard drive, the box automatically recognized it, and our DVR space usage dropped from 80% to 11%! We no longer have to worry about deleting shows - right now we have 112 recordings, mostly HD, and have used less than 50% of the space. This product is worth every penny!

I have 4 kids and tons of video and photos, so I had to do something. Great for storage and for backups. I use this with my macbook - yes, it DOES work with OS X (use disk utility), even though they don't list it. I'm very pleased with this purchase and the great price!

I will start off saying that I am a Mac user so I cannot speak as to how this drive operates in a Windoze environment. I only use this drive as a Time Machine back up and it works for that purpose. I have it hooked to a Mac mini using FireWire and it is fast, silent, and it works. To the one who said it does not work with Macs, it does, but I will say it does take a little bit of Mac know how to get it formatted. You have to first plug it up using USB to format a single Mac OS Extended partition in Disk Utility. Once you do that you can erase the entire drive and format it that way. A little bit of a run around but it will work just fine after that. All in all a great drive that does what you tell it to do.
The Good: It's a drive and it works.
The Bad: If you are not familiar with formatting in OS X it can be a chore. Also you have to format it in USB before switching to another connector in OS X.
The Ugly: Some may not like the "breathing" light but I have no problems with it

This HD is the Best internall Hard Disk that I never test! Since I install it, this hard disk worked perfectly with my machine. It's really FAST and SILENCE!!! My MacBook Pro (late 2006) is 2,16 Ghz, 4GB RAM, 128 ATI X1600 and after I install it, the Mac OS X work 30 or 40% FASTER!!!! Great HD with 7.200 RPM! I recommendend it!

I brought this drive at 12/6/08 and when I received it, it was just a plain brownbox oem drive with no instructions nor cables. The box looks like it has been previously opened also. It didn't matter to me because I have lots of sata cables anyways and I don't need instructions. I have a Gigabyte 965p-s3 motherboard and the motherboard won't detect the drive when connected to the purple jmicron controller but works with the integrated ICH8 controller. I used acronis and moved the OS over from my old 400gb hard drive to this one and it works fine. One minor quirk is that it makes a clicking noise when this drive boots up. I thought that they would've fixed the firmware issue by the time when ship the drive but I guess they didn't. Mine's came with SD17 firmware and I had to manually update it with SD1A firmware. However, I was using the hard drive with the SD17 firmware for a few days and it seems to be working fine.
I would've given it 5 stars if Amazon says that it is an OEM drive
