Panasonic 50" 720p Flat-Panel Plasma HDTV
Forget about 1080p - it just doesn't matter for a screen this size or smaller. The set actually has a 1080p processor, but a 720p display. I saw this one next to the 1080p model running off the same feed and this set looked better. If you see this in the store, do not go by the terrible picture you see. Their feeds are horrible, and the settings on the set are set to vivid (which is totally off for colors/brightnress, etc).

Go to avsforum dot com and search for the thread on this particular model. Several people have posted settings that make this TV pop.

Here's my take on my set with only 50 hours of break in (plasma sets get better with time - 100-200 hours is the break in period)

Pros:
1. Picture - HDTV is outstanding, DVDs are better, and I have yet to get Blu-Ray. Standard def tv is pretty good on this set, though once we added the HD channels to our cable package, we no longer watch any sd programming except the kids, who watch cartoons (and they look good on this set). Out of

Panasonic 50" Class 1080p Flat-Panel Plasma HDTV
The battle wages on between LCD and Plasma, but I know I chose correctly when I picked up this television. I have had it now for over a month and I still am as mezmerized as I was on day one. The colors and picture quality are absolutely brilliant. I have a friend that has a 1080p LCD TV and it does not hold a candle to the overall picture quality of this plasma. Again, the one drawback to a plasma screen TV is that it has a glass front, so if you are planning on having this in a room with lots of light and window, reflections will be a problem, and you might choose an LCD. But if you have a TV area like mine, hands down this is the best value and quality. 3 HDMI inputs (2 back, 1 front), 2 component inputs (1 back, 1 front) and your regular cable and composite hook ups available on back as well. The menues are easy to navagate, and the remote is user friendly. This also has an SD card slot that can handle the SDHC cards up to 16gb so you can display your digital photos. The only

Samsung 50" 1080p Flat-Panel Plasma HDTV
When I told my wife I wanted an HD Plasma she was happy to oblige...the only catch was we had to save up for it so we would have it all paid for when we bought it. What did that mean? We had to save for a YEAR! Was it worth it? You betcha!
It's amazing how much HDTVs improved in just 12 months! Had we bought it a year before we would have gone with a 720p Samsung like my parents have (also a fantastic TV), but that extra year helped prices go down. We paired up the TV with the Blu-Ray Player found in the Sony PS3 and man does it pop! You love sports? You absolutely have to get a Plasma...don't let anyone trick you into getting an LCD. The plasmas refresh their picture four times faster than any LCD. Don't get caught in the blur! Everything about this TV is awesome. Get it! Get it from Amazon! The delivery service is impeccable. There's no tax depending on where you live. You can't find it cheaper anywhere else. This TV is the way to go! You won't regret it. The touch

Samsung 50" 1080p Flat-Panel Plasma HDTV
I recommend this TV and I recommend Amazon as a vendor. Initially I ordered the 46" LCD Samsung (650), it had intermittent display problems so I sent it back. Meantime my "research" revealed that many authorities prefer the picture quality of plasma to LCD. So I opted for this one, and I'm very happy with it. I'm convinced it offers a better picture than the LCD I started with, though it's difficult to say why. The LCD seemed to have deeper blacks (when viewed head-on, at least) and it was surely brighter. But the picture on this plasma seems less like a big flat computer monitor and more like a CRT. It has more depth of color. It can reproduce action sequences without gimmicky options like 120hz. In terms of screen size, I think 50" is plenty big if you intend to watch both TV shows and movies in a room of moderate size. TV shows (and ads) are designed to grab your attention on a small screen; with a 50" screen, the effect can be overpowering. But if you're looking for a dedicated movie

Samsung 50" 1080p Flat-Panel Plasma HDTV
I just let go of a Sony CRT HDTV to purchase this, which I've had now for three weeks. I was slow to go to flat panel because of their notoriously poor rendition of blacks. I was right to wait, and this was the right product to wait for. I don't know how blacks could get any darker than the way they're displayed on this screen. In addition, what I thought was black on the CRT was often very dark blue, very dark green, etc... this TV delivers blacks but also nicely renders colors very close to black. Cons: I'm glad I don't have this screen in a bright room - there is some glare, though improved over earlier models - and the heat it puts out is surprising. But I think heat is one price you pay for going to plasma. Other nice touches: jpg and mp3 support. Haven't done the sound yet, but for jpg, just plug in a thumb drive, then point to the photos and ask for a slide show. Images, of course, have excellent resolution.

PN42A450 42" 720p Plasma TV, HDMI x 3, Integrated NTSC/ATSC/QAM Tuner, PC Input, Sports, Cinema, Game Modes
Like a few others I have read here, I am new to HDTV. I did a bit of research and narrowed my choices to this model and the Panasonic TH-42PZ85U.

I was looking at the Panasonic because initially I thought I wanted 1080p resolution, but after reading a few articles I decide I did not need it. HD cable is 720p right now and apparently will not be 1080p for some time due to bandwidth issues (although someone more knowledgeable on this topic is free to correct me on this point). And this TV is several hundred dollars cheaper than the Panasonic 1080p model. I looked at the Panasonic 720p 42 inch but that model (TH-42PX80U) does not have a PC input, which I wanted.

Anyway I went to my local Best Buy and they happened to have the Samsung PN42A450 and the Panasonic TH-42PZ85U right next to each other, and they both had a great picture. I liked the colors better on the Samsung though--they appeared richer to me.

So I went with the PN42a450 from Amazon. Best Buy's list price beat Amazon's,

Samsung HL50A650 - 50 Widescreen 1080p DLP HDTV - 2,500:1 Contrast Ratio - Piano Black
We did our research for months and this was the "best of breed" for us. We wanted a display that would do it all, games, HD, PC, HD-3D, and this was the ticket! The first unit that arrived was defective, visible line along the bottom of the screen which looked like a manufacturing defect and did bend the image. Amazon was very cool and shipped out a replacement in three days. WOW, great customer service there! We now have HDTV, Karoke, Wii, PS2, XBox, PC, Laptop, DVD Player-1080p upscaled, all connected and not a problem with any of them! This unit will not hang on the wall but the slimline footprint is great and it only weighs 50 pounds. Lots of connections on the side, we connected the optical out to our home theater (JVC) and processing the 5.1 surround sound is done very well. Fast action sports broadcasts in HD look spectacular on this TV, no ghosting or image bleeding as with our plasma TV. Overall we are very satisfied with the unit, the finish is very rich looking. We

Samsung 50" 1080p Flat-Panel Plasma HDTV
This is a great TV. I did ton's of research before I settled on this TV. It was between this and the Panasonic Viera TV with THX certification. The panasonic was more expensive. I went and looked at both side by side and could not tell the difference between the 2. The red "touch of color" is very subtle, and not an issue. This TV is phenominal!

Panasonic 50" Class 1080p Flat-Panel Plasma HDTV

Panasonic 50" Class 1080p Flat-Panel Plasma HDTV
Every good thing you read in the reviews about this TV is validated when you view the picture.Sharp high resolution, good sound quality for built in speakers and an almost infinite picture tuning capability to customize the viewing preferences of the owner. If you want more contrast you can adjust it to where you will need sun glasses! Packaging and delivery was good and on time.White glove delivery is as stated , however you should know that a $20 advance tip was provided in order to encourage the two men to mount the TV on the enclosed pedestal. It is impossible for one person to do it alone given its weight.Had I not done so , I believe they would have resisted mounting it. I have heard others say the same thing. This is not a complaint however, because Amazon has always demonstrated to me that they are customer focused, stand behind their products and are hands down the best on line seller. After the tip , the agents spent 20 minutes tuning the TV to my preferences so it was well worth

Panasonic 50" 720p Flat-Panel Plasma HDTV
This TV is great. I have HD channels on my cable and it seems that the signal is the weak link in resolution, not the TV. The resolution is great and I don't understand why people pay more for 1080 when 720p looks almost identical from four feet away.

Samsung HL50A650 - 50 Widescreen 1080p DLP HDTV - 2,500:1 Contrast Ratio - Piano Black
This is my first HDTV. I chose this for the long LED life, no color wheel, and basically great bang for the buck. The dimensions are accurate and it fit perfect into our armoire. The sound is great even though it's completely enclosed in the armoire, but we had to experiment with the different audio settings. I believe we settled on "gaming". There is a small text streaking effect, it's hard to describe. It's really only visible with white text on a black background. Samsung provides a 1 year in home warranty with this TV and a technician will be out in a couple of days to help diagnose the problem or replace the set. I cannot tell you how awesome this is. Buy a TV online, encounter problem, technician arrives to home as part of standard Samsung warranty. If you are like me, buying a TV like this online might be a little nerve wracking, but rest assured Electronics Expo and Samsung will take care of you. I wasn't even on hold at the retailer or the manufacturer for more than

Panasonic 50" 1080p Flat-Panel Plasma HDTV
I have been the proud owner of the Panasonic TH-50PZ85U plasma TV set for about a month.
This is my first flat-panel television and I switched from a 27 inch CRT Sony Trinitron.

Pricing, Ordering and Delivery:

I had been monitoring the price of this set ever since it got released earlier this year.
I had many opportunities to look at the set with my own eyes at Best Buy and other retailers but the price from most of these retailers was a little high, when considering that I would need to add sales tax as well as shipping (I found out that the box with the television would never fit in my car!).
So, when I saw the attractive price - with no sales tax - on Amazon, I jumped on it. Also, the free "while glove" delivery was a big plus as I had read too many horror stories about people getting a damaged or broken television and spending way to much time and energy to finally get a replacement.
The price on Amazon was several hundred dollars less than most local retailers.

Ordering was easy.

Panasonic 50" 720p Flat-Panel Plasma HDTV
I've been thinking about getting a HDTV for some time now, but have been price-watching and comparing, afraid to make a commitment - confounded by the same worry that accompanies all large electronics purchases : What if the price drops immediately after I buy the TV? What if it's not so great as everyone else describes? Can I trust an online "deal"?

Because I consider myself as very picky about what I buy in terms of quality - but also frugal to some extent, I would endlessly walk around stores, to see if I could spot a winner at a reasonable price. One note of caution: Be wary about picking a TV merely based on its performance in a store. The lighting is rarely similar to that in your living room and the color, contrast and brightness are turned way up to grab your attention. The LCD TVs show better in brightly lit stores because their bright vivid displays attract but blow out the finer details. What drew my eye on two separate occasions (without first noticing the brand) was the Panasonic

PN42A450 42" 720p Plasma TV, HDMI x 3, Integrated NTSC/ATSC/QAM Tuner, PC Input, Sports, Cinema, Game Modes
I bought this tv back in june from fry's electronics for $800 shipped. They shipped it via dhl,was kind of worried because the box was a little crunched on one side, but thankfully the tv was fine. This replaced my 20 year old sony 27 inch,I turned the samsung on and was surprised on how good the standard definition picture was, then i looked at the pbs station in hi def and WOW! Ive made sure not to watch too much in letterbox format, just zoom to avoid the black bars,at least for the first 100 hours.I have not experienced any image retention yet,but if i do the set has a "screen cleaner"to help avoid any burn in. I also turned the brightness and contrast down for the first 100 hours.I was going to wait for a 1080p but any screen under 50 inches you realy can't tell the difference anyway.Everyone told me to buy a lcd, but I think this tv looks better than any lcd, 1080p or otherwise. The set also has a hdmi conection on the side and more in the back.I also like the piano black finish,I'm so

PN42A450 42" 720p Plasma TV, HDMI x 3, Integrated NTSC/ATSC/QAM Tuner, PC Input, Sports, Cinema, Game Modes
A++
I bought this as a second set for the recreation room and I couldn't be happier. For concerts and movies this set is spectacular. With proper placement and a little bit of care, a plasma of this size cannot be beat for entertanment value and all the drawbacks of plasmas are taken care of, all that is left is the pluses. The colours, contrast, black levels and features are top notch. Of course, if you only have one set and you want to use it for gaming, sports programming, news, and other programming with lots of static, high contrast graphics, you need to be extra careful, as burn-in is still being reported. how I use it, I don't even see any image retention, even less than on my LCD, or CRT. I don't think pixel shifting is the solution, I don't even engage it most of the time.

The set is solidly built, but the speakers are a bit of a let-down. Good enough at moderate level, but a home theatre seems almost a requirement to match this TV.

For those in the know, 720p is just as good

Samsung 50" 1080p Flat-Panel Plasma HDTV
Picture quality is superb on this plasma TV. The black level is, well, really black... It may not be as good as the Pioneer Kuro series (though I personally can't really see much difference), but definitely better than the Panasonic PZ85U series.

I would highly recommend this TV especially at the price that Amazon is selling at!

Panasonic 50" Class 1080p Flat-Panel Plasma HDTV
After a few days with this TV, I am mad at myself for not ordering it sooner. This TV is great. Amazing black level, very crisp, rich colors, it makes everything look better. I'm upgrading from a 37" LCD and I'm totally sold on plasma tech. I think 50" is the perfect size for the average living room. Go big or go home.

Panasonic 50" 1080p Flat-Panel Plasma HDTV
I have had the TH-50PZ85U for several days at this writing. I purchased it based on seeing a live unit, and because of favorable reviews here and on the AudioVisual forum. It is connected to an Onkyo TX-SR606 receiver which also came from Amazon, all with HDMI cables. I have a new Sony DVP-NS77H DVD player, and the upconversion thru the system is outstanding. I see no need for BlueRay until it gets much less expensive. I previously had a Toshiba rear projection HD that only lasted 6 years, so this is my first experience with Plasma. I am completely satisfied. The 50PZ85U does put out some heat, but I had read about this. Setup was okay, I am fairly technical, but I had to read the documentation carefully several times. The forums mention a 100 hr "breakin" time, but I see no mention of this in the Owners Manual. I am treating it carefully in any event. The picture settings published in the forum were right on the mark for my eye, although the out of the box picture wasn't too bad. I purchased

TV looks so shape in 720P even sharper in 1080I 60 fps. 1080P 90 FPS should look even better.

I hooked my old computer up to the TV and watched the A team off netflex with it.
I listen in 5.1 sound that comes with HD Brardcast!!!
