Sony 5.0MP Handycam High-Definition Camcorder with 60GB Hard Drive - Silver
I bought the SR-11 here from Amazon. Got it in time to head straight to my son's basketball game literally right out of the box (I had bought an extra battery that was fully charged).

Programed the date/time, no prob. Then just started shooting the game (My son scored 31 pts..and we won!) I recorded in the HD just so I could see what it was like (plus it was by default set on that). Got home found the cables and plugged into the HD TV and it looked fantastic. Played back fine.

Then for the next test- iMovie and Final Cut Express... It mounted for iMovie and I was able to bring in the footage. I made a 25 minute highlights show. Went fine. At one point, had a little glitch when in the editing area the filmstrips weren't visiable, but you could tell they were still there because the pointer would show the dates/time of the shots. I know this may not be clear, but I think it happened due to me taking 80% of the footage and dragging it into the project window at one time. iMovie suggested

Sony 5.0MP Handycam High-Definition Camcorder w/120GB Hard Drive and 3.2" LCD Screen - Silver/Gray
I've had my SR12 for about a month now. It's a wonderful video camera with amazing HD picture quality.
I just shot a friend's daughter's wedding (for free - for fun) and he said it looked like it was done by a professional. Some of the darker dance floor scenes were a bit troublesome (slightly grainy/out of focus at times - most of it was great!) - everything was shot on full automatic mode with no light settings/adjustments - I'm still learning what this camera can/can't do).
It's still a great piece of technology. I shot many of my son's high-school outdoor soccer games - both daylight and at night under the lights - came out PERFECT! And WOW is it great just playing back on my HD TV. Amazing.
Now, for the software/editing issue: It's a non-issue. Get a computer. Not your 4-yr old P4. I've got a yr-old Quad Core - works great with Pinnacle Studio 12 Ultimate software. I burn DVDs AND Blu-Rays with this set-up and it looks fabulous!
Ask away if you have any questions. I learned from other

Sony 5.0MP Handycam High-Definition Camcorder with 60GB Hard Drive - Silver
This is the best camcorder I have ever owned (camcorders I have owned: one Hi8 mm Sony, one Hi8mm Canon, Two miniDV JVCs, one hard drive HD Sony--SR5). I believe the best way to evaluate a product is by comparison --- of course one cannot compare "apple to orange". Before I bought the SR11 two weeks ago, I bought a Canon HG10. The canon is also a hard drive HD. I was very disappointed by the Canon. The Canon HG10 video quality (resolution and color) was just slightly better than my JVCs (miniDV digital standard definition) and much worse than my almost two-year-old Sony SR5 (also hard drive HD, the SR5 also produces excellent HD videos). Although the Canon has many more other features (e.g. a wide range of shuttle speed, 24p, etc), I returned the Canon because to me, video resolution, color saturation and low light performance (to be fair, Canon HG10's low light performance was excellent) are the most important elements of a camcorder. I did not think the manual shuttle speeds are

Sony 5.0MP Handycam High-Definition Camcorder w/120GB Hard Drive and 3.2" LCD Screen - Silver/Gray
A friend of ours has this camera so I already have seen how incredible it was, therefore I bought it. My friends are huge into technology with unlimited resources and they showed me this camera.

Add the extra battery to your order (the H70 is good enough unless you want the H100).

The video is great, camera easy to use, and Amazon had a fantastic price and quick delivery.

I will be ordering a huge television in the next few weeks from Amazon. They seem to be great to deal with.

Sony 5.0MP Handycam High-Definition Camcorder with 60GB Hard Drive - Silver
I have purchased both camcorders (I admit via BestBuy since returns are a breeze) to compare quality for about a week, and I must say Sony wins hands down. I was actually hoping the Canon will be the winner since I own the Canon 40D dSLR and wanted to stay within brand, but I've made my choice and purchased the SR11 from Amazon. For the record, I was using iMac 3.06GHz intel proc with iMovie/QuickTimePro - none of the cameras offer any software for the Mac, but that did not seem a problem:

Sony won me over in the following areas:

1. Autofocus: Sony seemed more responsive. I have a 2yr old, which can't seem to stay put for more than a second and the Sony seemed to obtain better focus on him. Canon sometimes took over 2seconds to obtain focus outdoors at about 5x zoom.

2. white balance: For some reason the Canon did not look natural to me. The colours were off, with my son's pale skin looking greenish indoors at low light.

3. LCD + viewfinder. The Canon does not have a viewfinder, which

Sony 5.0MP Handycam High-Definition Camcorder w/120GB Hard Drive and 3.2" LCD Screen - Silver/Gray
This is a good camcorder but it definitely needs Firewire. Amazon lists it as having I-Link which is Firewire but it doesn't. A little slow to transfer data to your computer with USB.

Sony 5.0MP Handycam High-Definition Camcorder w/120GB Hard Drive and 3.2" LCD Screen - Silver/Gray
Using this to records kids events, etc. Works fantastic most of the time. Camera does have some trouble at sporting events at dusk/early evening. Seems to have trouble focusing during these times. Awesome picture, features, etc. The software bundled does a pretty good job of importing videos. That is about all it can do. I am struggling to find real editing software for AVCHD. Thinking of just going with SONY Vegas based on comments from friends and coworkers. These videos eat up a LOT of disc space. Now looking for a new computer with MASSIVE processor/memory/storage WITH a Blu ray burner. It should not be this difficult. I am shooting everything full HD. Why else buy an HD camera right? My only recommendation is to shoot the essential moments you need. Else you will pay for it editing (trying to) out all the undesirable frames.

Sony 5.0MP Handycam High-Definition Camcorder w/120GB Hard Drive and 3.2" LCD Screen - Silver/Gray
I ordered this camera in mid-August, then used it on a 7-day trip to Cape Cod.

I rate this unit 5 stars because of its great picture quality and general ease of use.

Specifics:

1. Images were beautifully sharp and clear, just what I'd expected from a High Definition camcorder.

2. Image stabilization worked very well.

3. Autoexposure and autofocus worked well for me. Autofocus was quick and accurate. With varied lighting (full sun, heavy shade, back lit scenes), all images came out very well. Sometimes a manual adjustment would improve the exposure a bit, but things were fine with exposure set to Auto.

4. Mac users:
(a) You'll need iMovie08. A lot of camcorder forums describe additional software for using this camera with a Mac, but those threads are old. iMovie08 downloaded and converted the image files, and allowed editing, with no problems.

(b) Amazon's item description says it has "i.Link interface (IEEE1394)." I can find no iLink/Firewire connector on the camera or in the

Sony 5.0MP Handycam High-Definition Camcorder w/120GB Hard Drive and 3.2" LCD Screen - Silver/Gray
Recording your HD video to a hard drive, or memory stick, really is a vast improvement over recording to tape. I just made the switch, felt just like when I switched from reel to reel or cassette to CDs...being able to scan through your video clips by viewing the first frame really enhances the usefulness of viewing what you captured versus hitting forward and rewind looking for a certain spot on tape. Sony has a one button feature that moves your video from the camera to a computer, incrementally, so was easy to get a copy of what was on the camera to a second device for backup every so often.

Biggest negative for me was position of camera in your hand, I found it harder to aim this camera comfortably at subjects versus the smaller DCR-PC7 format Sony I am replacing.

Sony 5.0MP Handycam High-Definition Camcorder w/120GB Hard Drive and 3.2" LCD Screen - Silver/Gray
We just got this camera 3 days before we took a month long trip! We actually filled up the hard drive because we filmed our son's 6 baseball tournament games in their entirety before we left. We have a 73" Mits HDTV and this camcorder looks FANTASTIC!!! We are blown away, even on such a large screen! I highly recommend it! The zoom is incredible. We were sitting in nosebleed seats at a baseball stadium and we were able to zoom into the dugout, it looked like we were in the dugout filming! We've had it about 6 weeks now and absolutely love it!

Sony 5.0MP Handycam High-Definition Camcorder with 60GB Hard Drive - Silver
This camcorder is great. It replaces a SD JVC camcorder that died; fortunately just prior to my first child being born. So I did my due diligence and finally chose the SR11 from Sony. The SR12 is identically spec'd but with a larger hard drive, thus more capacity. I went with the SR11 as even on the highest HD setting, I would have to change the battery several times before the hard drive would fill up. For me I have found that decision to hold up well and I come nowhere close to filling up the 60GB hard drive between recordings. I saved a few pennies vs the SR12 and applied that to getting an extended capacity battery. Much better money spent IMO. The batteries on these cams are getting better but you still need an extended pack to record a long session. What good is the extra capacity if you don't have the battery life? The HD is not a limiting factor for how much you can record, its the battery life. SO for a similar amount of money as an SR12 I have an SR11 that can actually record

Sony 5.0MP Handycam High-Definition Camcorder with 60GB Hard Drive - Silver
As the title states, I feel this is about the best you can expect from a consumer level camera on the market today.

I have been experimenting and putting it through it's paces for a month now, and am pretty familiar with it's capabilities and quality. I am currently on my family's second vacation trip of the year and and have taken some footage ranging from indoor/outdoor pet shots, the mountains and waterfalls of western Colorado, night-time 4th of July fireworks, indoor, well-lit cousin/family members and an indoor shot of mom covering a chocolate cake with meringue icing. Lots of good, typical, casual-user type footage.

With the recent purchase of a mini HDMI to standard HDMI cable, I was finally able to view all of this footage on a 45" Sony BRAVIA LCD TV in all of it's HD glory. Before, I had been getting by with the AV/Component cables and there is a night and day difference between those and the digital signal of HDMI.

A good part of my footage was shot in the lowest quality possible.

Sony 5.0MP Handycam High-Definition Camcorder w/120GB Hard Drive and 3.2" LCD Screen - Silver/Gray
I've now had this camera for about a month now and I couldn't be happier. The video quality is STUNNING as well as the recording sounds. It comes with a base and proprietary power and video cords (both component-HD and composite, which means that they are not interchangable with over the counter video cords), but thats ok. It also has the software for transferring the videos and photos to your CPU. Back to the picture and sound... amazing really. The sound records in 5.1 surround which is so cool, plus you have many options on the video such as night vision, black and white, sepia, old movie mold, etc and some of them you can combine (I did night vision with black and white to make a short zombie movie, it looks wicked). There are so many possibilities with this cam. The play back is all touch screen, which the screen can get smeared by fingerprints (easy to wipe out), but I suggest buying a stylus. Of course if you hook it to your television, it does come with a remote control,

Sony 5.0MP Handycam High-Definition Camcorder with 60GB Hard Drive - Silver
Two months ago, I sprang for this much pricier camcorder than I normally would have because we were celebrating my husband's 50th birthday with our first vacation to Europe in 25 years. With the larger hard drive on this camera, it meant I didn't have to drag my laptop along for transferring the video.

In the middle of the trip, I tried to replay the video I had just taken, and I got a screen that read, "HDD format error." Nothing had happened to the camera -- I didn't drop it, there were no extremes of temperature, nothing knocked it. Mistakenly thinking that Sony was a stand-up company and would take care of this, I put the camera away for the rest of the trip and called Sony when I got home.

The news was not good. Sony reports that its warranty covers repairing the camera "to factory standards" but will not even attempt to recover the video.

Instead, Sony's customer relations recommended I try a third party hard drive recovery service. If all of the video is recovered, I will pay

Sony 5.0MP Handycam High-Definition Camcorder with 60GB Hard Drive - Silver
I fell in love with this camcorder after spending countless hours on the web, doing research and reading every single review I could find...

I've had it for about a month now and I'm still discovering new features and experimenting recording in different lighting conditions. I'm really impressed with the playback quality on my 22" LCD screen (1680x1050 max resolution) but it really screams on my 42" LCD @ full 1920x1080i, never fails to put a grin on my face! :D I'm new to HD video and being able to record every moment in HD is truly priceless! I originally wanted the SR-12 but decided I could live with the 60GB hard drive on the SR-11 and got a really good deal elsewhere so it was a no brainer. The battery that comes with the camera lasts up to 1.5 hours @ everything turned high which is OK! As a matter of fact, I just purchased the NPFH100 H Series Actiforce Hybrid InfoLithium Battery from Amazon, which supposedly gives you something like 5-7 hours of continuous recording time

Sony 5.0MP Handycam High-Definition Camcorder w/120GB Hard Drive and 3.2" LCD Screen - Silver/Gray
I wanted to clear the air about a little misinformation that has been posted on hi def resolutions. There are other sites on the net that explain the same thing with but with more detail, but the link below is the reference for my information:

How 1080i and 1080p Are Both The Same and Different

1080i and 1080p are both High Definition display formats for HDTVs. 1080i and 1080p signals actually contain the same information. Both 1080i and 1080p represent a 1920x1080 pixel resolution (1,920 pixels across the screen by 1,080 pixels down the screen). The difference between 1080i and 1080p is in the way the signal is sent from a source component or displayed on an HDTV screen.

In 1080i each frame of video is sent or displayed in alternative fields. The fields in 1080i are composed of 540 rows of pixels or lines of pixels running from the top to the bottom of the screen, with the odd fields displayed first and the even fields displayed second. Together, both fields create a full

Sony 5.0MP Handycam High-Definition Camcorder with 60GB Hard Drive - Silver
I'd like to start by saying first that I am amazed at the picture and video quality of this camera. If you're looking for professional results from a camcorder, this is the product for you. However, I'm one who prefers accessorizing products with accessories from the original manufacturer, taking advantage of the design/manufacturer "own" product knowledge base. Sony unfortunately makes it difficult. This camera uses AIS (Active Interface Shoe) technology; allowing the AIS accessories to connect to the camera's shoe without any additional wires or batteries. I thought this was an excellent idea until I tried to use an external microphone for distant subjects while also using a video light and found that it's not possible. What a sham! I did research this issue and have found many individuals with these same frustrations and so I contacted Sony directly to hear for myself that there is no AIS multi-accessory shoe adapter available and was disappointed to find out this is true. I

Sony 5.0MP Handycam High-Definition Camcorder w/120GB Hard Drive and 3.2" LCD Screen - Silver/Gray
I am new to high definition camcorders and I really looked forward to getting this one since I have been using a Sony DV camera for about 4 years now.First the bad, when I received it the first thing I noticed was how Sony was stingy on accessories like no remote, no good software, no firewire support(oh come on Sony),no good instructions, no mini hdmi, no memory stick, no bigger better life battery. You would think for a $1400 camera they would of thrown something in.Since I had already had a Sony camcorder I was already used to the interface and how to get to certain aspects of the camera so I never really read the instructions but a first timer may have problems with it.

In low light conditions this camcorder chokes and quality gets bad so you have to do some adjusting.Focusing for it also became a problem in low light.I noticed if I changed exposure or brightness to much the shot would get jerky.I am still looking for a way to fix this.

I wish the lens was a little

Sony 5.0MP Handycam High-Definition Camcorder w/120GB Hard Drive and 3.2" LCD Screen - Silver/Gray
I was very excited about everything I'd read about this camera and happily bought one. However, the first time I used it for more than 20 minutes (which, alas, was after the time I could have returned it), the hard drive completely failed. I would get the warning "Buffer Overrun" or "Cannot Access HD" and it would shut down. After it happened once, the camera could not be used for more than 3 minutes without the same warning.

After I spent 97 minutes on the phone with various "Sony Customer Satisfaction Centers," I was allowed to return the camera -- at my expense -- to them for repair. They promptly and courteously sent it back with a nice little note saying they couldn't find anything wrong with it.

So I plugged it in and, after 20 minutes, "Buffer Overrun."

Uh, guys, it's the hard drive. It's faulty. Just replace it.

Sorry that this isn't so much a review of the camera. I'm sure it's a magical delight once the thing works. Just be warned that if you get this expecting to make a

Sony 5.0MP Handycam High-Definition Camcorder with 60GB Hard Drive - Silver
I like this camera. I like the size and the feature set, but to my eye, the AVCHD video quality isn't quite there. It's good, but there is still some "star-stepping" visible around light and dark points, particularly in lower light. I'm comparing this to HDV video shot with my HDR-HC1 and I prefer the less compressed HDV video. That being said, I don't miss the video capture process I had to go through with HDV to get it onto the computer for editing, so I will keep this camera. FYI, for those of you looking for software that works with AVCHD, I've had great success with Sony Vegas Platinum. Whatever you do, don't buy Adobe Premier Elements - it doesn't support AVCHD and is very, very buggy.

Pro:
- Easy to load video to PC
- Good form factor; not as small as the Canon HF10, but small
- Nice big screen
- Viewfinder for those bright sunny days (HF10 does not have a viewfinder)
- Able to hold lots of video

Cons:
- Some compression artifacts visible in video
- Some skipping
