I'm a graphic/3d artist, so I run some pretty heafty software on my little Hp tablet. Everything (Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, Maya, Zbrush, and Blender)runs almost as fast as it does on my desktop.

The only program that seems to suffer, is Maya. Keep in mind, that it is a freakin' enormus program, that sometimes even has trouble running on my 4 gig, dual Intel processors (6400 @ 2.13 GHz), desktop.

The TX 1000Z uses AMD, instead of Intel processors. Don't let that scare you. It reduces the cost of the system, immensly, and doesn't seem to have any effect on performance.

The touch screen is plenty responsive, but as with any other tablet pc, double clicking (even after adjusting the settings) is a bit touchy.
My only real complaint is with the sound quality. It's not bad, but for a product that is advertised as a media center, it's not as good as it should be.

Quickie observations:
1. battery life is about four hours, which is what I expected
2. the buttons, on the side (fast

I purchased a Dell Inspiron 1720, refurbished, and it has been nothing but trouble since the box was opened. During the "Computer Set-Up" Vista crashed & rebooted the machine. It kept randomly rebooting, without any rhyme or reason: While I was looking at the installed programs; When I tried some of the pre-packaged games (solitaire); When I was online using Windows Explorer; When I was using my Firefox browser. It would restart with multiple programs or a single program running.

The obvious fix was to upgrade to Windows XP. Except that this machine is engineered so that it is not backwards compatible with any OS prior to Vista.

It was even replaced with another refurbished machine which crashed just as frequently and inexplicably.

Then they replaced some of the hardware (CPU & Hard drive) and returned it without reinstalling the operating system or any software. After I did that the computer continued to randomly reboot. Now they want to return to the beginning and make me do their

This is actually a nice tablet. The build quality is good and the features are impressive, but after using it I realized my much older notebook performs better.

I got this to be a car pc, after shopping around I decided the HP was the best tablet to get. The touch screen is good and allows for finger manipulation. But the processor sucks, the battery life stinks, and multitasking is so so. Trying to justify the cost when I already have a 2.5 year old 14" notebook the out performs it is hard.

So if you need a tablet, and don't have a computer of any kind then sure buy it, other than that it's a waste of money. HP should have used a better processor and chipset. It would have made this a must have.

I bought it directly from HP and received 30% discount to find out a week later that HP stopped producing tx1000 (hence the large discount). What they do not tell you is that this model does not have Wacom digitizer and active display. This model has a passive display, and what that means is that you would be able to write on the screen as successfully as you try to write something in you Blackberry.
When you try to write on the screen you have to apply so much pressure and the hand has to be at a certain angle. Even that did not always help me as a result I got a bunch of dots or some weird looking lines that did not resemble any letters. The pen primarily serves a function of the mouse. And also forget about trying to draw anything, it will not work the same as the writing.
The computer is loaded with HPs bloatware (as usual) and Vista is slower than XP. The comp is unable to play any games (tried Command and Conquer) due to its weak videocard. In addition the screen is very grainy though

There was a mistake about the procesor and the ram memory. Also the hard disk. instead of having 4 gb of ram it came with 3. the processor is the TL-60 instead the tl-58. and the HDD is about 148 instead of 160. The most important thing is the ram memory because it would affect the price of the computer. please be more careful and i think that i should get a discount or something like a gift certificate so i can use that money to buy another tinhgs. unfortunately the computer is already in venezuela and that is why i dont consider to send it back to get the proper product. Anyhow the shiping was good.

I received this computer three days ago. Although I will admit to being smitten with the novelty of simply having a laptop, this is amazing. The tablet feature alone blew me away. This notebook is able to convert into a "slate" and a touch-screen with an attachment allow you to write in any box (even on the internet) where input is needed.
It even recognizes cursive handwriting! I just wrote this in MY OWN WRITING!!!
Naysayers be damned, I give Windows Vista my full confidence. Period.
(I'm still using the pen to write.) Vista's usability & user-friendliness is simply astounding! This is the first computer I have ever owned that allowed me to be online within 10 minutes of startup. A gem, through & through!!

I was so excited to have a lap top that I could actually transport without a wheeled cart!!! If I could purchase this item with a clean hard drive I would get it in a blink!!! I loved the set up and I could even find good use for the tablet feature!!! I was going to use it for clinical notes and keeping track of appointments. I even liked the analog clock face on the desk top!!! BUT the bugs in the software made email impossible and the learning curve on VISTA was more than I wanted to deal with....HP blamed Microsoft...Microsoft blamed HP....of the two Customer Service departments I had better treatment from Microsoft who was at least encouraging....HP was crisp and pointed me towards a $9/ month tech support service I could purchase to work through my "fixes". That was to much BS for me....I returned the unit to the retailer.....Really too bad!!! I still think it is the best little machine out there!!!Too bad HP did such a poor job of loading the software!!!! Hope they work out the

Of course this is a fantastic tablet PC. A bit heavy for the tablet but it also offers full laptop functionality. Battery life is not great unless you get the 6 cell. A second battery is a must have for a serious business user. Beyond these limitations, it is fast and easy to setup and use. The HP reminders installed re: updated service protection plans etc are a pain and don't go away without manually removing the programs. But the machine is rock solid. Very happy overall with my purchase. Feel free to email me with any questions you have about the product prior to purchase. dct1607@yahoo.com

I purchased this notebook recently and I am having really bad experience, both with the notebook and with HP's award-winning customer support. I am running Vista Home Premium on AMD Turion 2.0 GHz processor, with NVidia graphic accleration, 2 GB RAM & 120GB hard drive. The notebook gets very very hot. I am not able to keep it on my lap, fearing that it might burn my skin, if it gets in contact. I am NOT running any fancy applications, mind you, just using the web browser is sufficient to agitate the machine. If I continue to work, without minding the heat generated from the bottom of the laptop, then the Fan kicks in and makes it noisy enough to wake up my neighbors. I called their tech support and wanted to know the procedure for returning the laptop. The moment I said that, they put me on hold for another good 20 minutes, and later on, said "some one would get back to me within 24 hrs". No one did, and I had to call back again to remind them. I am still waiting to return the product.

This was my first laptop purchase and at first I was "wowed"! In less than a year I have had two letters fall off of the keyboard permanently, it sticks quite frequently as well. The battery does not hold a very long charge at all and now the AC adaptor port is shorting out.
It runs reasonably well though. The wireless works superbly. Even with the issues that I have encountered, I would not pass it by if the price was right.

I recently decided to obtain a laptop with a Microsoft operating system to run some programs that are unfortunately only compatible with Windows--including U.S.-made biofeedback software that runs with a pocket, wireless amplifier from Australia.

I'm not much for Windows operating systems, and my previous experiences with XP were disastrous. However, having recently purchased a re-manufactured Pavilion DV5000, with an AMD chip set, I give credit to HP for making a fine machine.

The 5.2 inch screen is large enough to actually see, and the system includes just about all the bells and whistles one could wish for, including a 4-layer Cd-DVD drive, wireless networking (and traditional lan connections), a large hard drive, ample memory and even a telephone jack, presumably to send faxes and make conference calls.

The sound and graphics on this baby are great, the machine is pretty fast, and there are many more security mechanisms and software packages than I received the last time I tried
