I bought the DW-100 burner to go with our Canon HF-10 HD flash based camcorder. I'm not so disappointed with the performance of the burner itself, but rather the misleading description by Canon of what this thing actually is. According to Canon's website, "...DW-100 allows you to connect to a Canon VIXIA HG10, VIXIA HF10, and VIXIA HF100 as well as the FS11, FS10 and FS100 camcorders to download video and burn AVCHD or Standard Definition DVDs." This is not exactly the truth. As it turns out, the ability to burn Standard Definition DVD's is dependant on the camera's ability to record in Standard Definition (and vice versa). For example, Standard Definition is not a recording option with the HF-10, and thus I am unable to burn Standard Definition DVDs.
This issue leads me to the whole point of me buying this burner. I wanted to have the ability to create Standard Definition DVD's on-the-fly (i.e., encode DVD mpeg-2 from source AVCHD) so I could share videos with those friends and

I purchased this as soon as it was available. I was looking for a way to archive the original footage that was recorded on my Canon HG10. It is a little quirky to use. You need to create a playlist to record if you are not backing up the entire camera. Once you get used to using the burner it is a great utility. I was unaware until after purchasing that you can put the disks created by the burner into a Blu-Ray player and watch them in full HD.
At home I have an iMac and when I insert the burned disc it shows up in iMovie just as it would if the recorded video was still on the camera.
I have had no issues burning to RiTek RiData 8x DVD-R. I cannot vouch for other brands as I haven't used any others yet.
I absolutely recommend this item to anyone looking to archive their videos in their original format that does not want to rely only on keeping it on local hard drives. After having a hard drive in the past fail and losing some info that had not yet been backed up I am a firm

this is one of the better DVD+R. for me using Nero & Toaster, my coaster percentage is ~5-10% after 50 burns. packaging is weak and, sometimes, it breaks in transit, giving you some scratched DVDs. though this is a random thing and a transportation thing, not the DVD per se.

I have used all of these DVD's and they are great. It was a very good value. I also had a very good experience with Overstock.com. There was a confusion over the shipping as I didn't realize the delivery needed to be signed for. I contacted Overstock.com and they handled the changes professionally and courteously. I could not have been more satisfied with their response and help.

I have been transferring my old home movie vhs and 8mm tapes to dvd for 3 months with a Nero moviemaking program. I have used 64 of these discs, and am about to order 50 more. In the beginning, 2 discs failed, but I am certain that was because my computer was scheduled to perform updates at the same time that it was trying to burn a dvd. So I scheduled updates for a time when I was not burning a dvd, and I had no more problems. They seem to be slightly thicker than standard dvd's and are really tight when I try to fit them back to back in storage album pockets, so I use every other pocket for a card describing the contents of the adjacent dvd.

CAUTION: MAKE SURE YOUR COMPUTER CAN WORK WITH DVD+R MEDIA BEFORE BUYING THIS--SOME OLDER COMPUTERS MAY NOT RECOGNIZE THIS TYPE OF BLANK DVD MEDIA
Memorex makes a very reliable blank DVD+R that can handle up to 4.7 GB of data. Moreover, these blank DVD+Rs are capable of recording data at speeds up to 16x. The data I record onto these lasts for years, proving the test of time. I have used these as data discs, discs to record video and discs to record video. Great!
The DVD+R discs are compact and easy to store. While the discs are still blank, store them in the circular case on the spindle that they came in. After your burn data onto them, I would recommend storing them in slim jewel cases instead of paper sleeves. It's just better protection for your DVD+Rs that have data stored on them. Don't store these discs, burnt or blank, in rooms that become very hot; this causes damage to any brand of this type of disc and you could lose data over time.
There are two caveats that many other

The price is excellent and it got here right away! This is such a bargain and the quality's pretty good. No problems whatsoever. I've probably got 1/3 left of this, and I will buy this again.

This is the first time I have ever purchased anything from Overstock. The communication was excellent. For ground shipping, the item arrived very quickly. The tracking number was e-mailed to me within a day of my order, and the item was packaged very well. There's a local computer shop that carries these DVD-R's, but the price is nearly double what they were on Overstock. The DVD's work beautifully!
I definitely will be a return shopper!

Overall a good device but beware it does not tolerate any disks but Verbatim. I have tried Sony, LG, TDK and all fail. Use Verbatim and all goes smoothly.
Instructions in the box are not written for the HF10 and are more for the HG10. Some of the translation to English is not well done.

I should have get Sony HD Cam and Sony version of this!!! I was expecting something like Sony, that support regular burning of DVD. No recording support of DVD+R/RW DL!!! Dual Layer DVD-R is too expensive than DL DVD+R.
Sony was the one who first released a recorder like this! CANON SHOULD HAVE MADE A LOT OF IMPROVEMENT AND MAKE THIS A BETTER PRODUCT!!!

I have an older Toshiba TIVO DVD-R/RW recorder that is finicky on blank media. The machines spec is for 2x DVD-RW media. Other people on the Internet have written that they have had trouble recording with 4x and faster blanks. I've never had a burn failure with this media.

I like these LightScribe discs and the colored ones are even better. They add a bit o' variety (the spice of life) to that pile of burned discs you have on your shelf. Seriously though, these work just as advertised although I wish black would show up a little blacker.

I bought this burner thinking that I'd never have to use a computer to burn DVDs. However this burner doesn't give you the option between AVCHD DVDs and SD DVDs, so I still have to use the computer to make SD DVDs. It also can't use DVD+R or DVD+RW discs. That was a nasty surprise after I spent a bunch of money for a 25 pack of dual layer discs.

Unfortunatley if you own a Canon HG10 you will not be able to use this burner unless you have an AVCHD player. The SD camcorders have the option when downconverting to create in standard dvd format. The only other way to convert the files is on a PC.

I bought these because they were a good deal... but I have already thrown away over half of them trying to use them. It's like every other one works. It's not my burner either because I have tried them on 3 different computers and I get error messages or when I go to run them on a dvd player there are errors. Not all the time but entirely too often.

TDK makes a very reliable blank DVD-R that can handle up to 4.7 GB of data. Moreover, these blank DVD-Rs are capable of recording data at speeds up to "16x." The video I record onto these lasts forever. I have used these as discs to record video both with and without audio.

There are three caveats that many other people note about any brand of this product: before you buy these make sure that your DVD burner drive can burn the TDK brand of DVD-R without any problems; otherwise you

I am a retired electronics engineer, and I use only Verbatim DVD blanks. After trying about 20 brands of DVD blanks over the past 5 years, I found that Verbatim was the only brand that always worked in all DVD players. Some were good for one player, others for another player, but Verbatim has worked in everything. I make hundreds of DVDs for my church, so many different players have been tried, and I have never heard of one that did not play. They are so reliable I don't even check them to see if they work! I print on them with my inexpensive Epson Stylus R200 printer, and the result looks very professional. Earlier, I found that DVDs with labels degraded over a period of months or years; that took about four years to figure out. These hub-printables allow me to use photos or frames captured from the video without so much concern for the part left out of the picture. They cost a little more, but they are really worth the price.

Before ordering this item I saw reviews stating that it had been received damaged. The same happened to my order. Evidently Amazon is unable to rectify this type of problem. I made a complaint by email and by telephone. Amazon will replace items and provide a refund. The agent I spoke to said he could pass my complaint onto the shipping department, but there is no feedback mechanism in place which, acknowledges receipt of the complaint by that department and its intent to improve packing in future. Without that I will not order this item from Amazon again.

I'm using a Pansonic DVD recorder, and was using TDK DVD-R & DVD+R disks, but when they changed them about a year or two ago they started to fail regularly, often half a package of them would be no good, so I was forced to search for another brand. I tried several including Memorex, HP, Sony, Verbatim, & some store brands, and they all had a higher failure rate than I could accept, so I suspected a problem with the recorder - but when I tried these Magnavox DVDs, to my surprise the DVD-Rs have all worked perfectly and only 1 out of 100 of the DVD+Rs failed. Occasionally I've tried one of the other brands I still have left over and they still fail sometimes, then these work, so it's not just the recorder.
