I bought two of these (not from Amazon, but another vendor), and they are unusable for media or any other near real time use. Every 5-10 minutes, the drives will stop responding for a period of time (10-30 seconds). Data is not lost, but it's useless for playing back media files, as videos and even MP3s will stop playing.
SMART monitoring shows no errors and that the drive is working properly.
It is possible that Seagate will fix this in firmware, or it's possible that both of the ones I received (from the same batch) are defective. To be certain, this is Model ST31500341A Revision: SD17
I've read a few reports on the internet of others having similar issues, but then plenty of people say the drives work great. So who knows if it is a firmware issue, a bad batch of drives, or what.

I've been using this product for 3 weeks and it finally died on me. Luckily the item was still returnable to the store I purchased it from and I literally just got back from the store after returning it for a full refund to write this mini-review.
For 3 weeks it was alright, though I did notice it ran really hot, made intermittent noises I've never heard my other 3 Buffalo hard drives make and the transferring was initially fast but quickly slowed down the more I used it. I was surprised that the drive didn't come bundled with any software including the usual FAT32 disk formatting program. I understand they have free FAT32 formatting programs on the internet but with every Buffalo drive I've purchased, I've enjoyed the privilege of this and other software conveniently packaged with it.
I can't, in clear conscience, recommend this Seagate FreeAgent drive to anyone, not really knowing if I just received a lemon or if their drives are outright just not dependable. Whatever the case may be,

I originally purchased the SD790 as a birthday gift for my wife as a replacement for her Canon SD600 because I remembered her enthusiastic response upon seeing a 3" viewing screen. When she received it, it soon became clear that her disappointment at the camera's greater overall size and weight, its rather off-beat flat-panel styling, and its more complicated setting system (a rotating ring) made a greater impression than the 1/2" larger viewing screen.
So I exchanged it for the camera I had at first thought was definitely the inferior choice: the SD1100. When the SD1100 first appeared, several camera review sites (and Cnet) greeted it with moderate enthusiasm at best, suggesting it was little more than a cosmetic touch-up (because of the blue, pink, brown colors) of the SD1000. But that's only half true, because the SD1100, like the SD790, incorporates face and motion detection as well as image stabilization. Moreover, the most popular and trusted Consumer Magazine has recently called

Seagate ST305004FDA1E1-RK FreeAgent Desktop 500 GB 3.5-Inch USB 2.0 External Hard Drive
I bought a 320 GB version of this and had problems with it "disappearing" from my system. I talked with Technical support and I went through installing it on another computer and it did the same thing. While I was doing this, I noticed the base was hot (too hot) to the touch. I looked for problems via Google and found a whole pile of complaints that had to do with overheating and further complaints that Seagate was not acknowledging the problem and the Support Engineers were no help (this was my experience). As far as I can tell, disks beyond 250 GB were made without changes to the cooling to handle hotter running products. I don't know if this has now been fixed. I would assume so since ads for these products disappeared for a few months and are now showing up again. But the other issue is - how can you trust this company? Rather than pursue replacement (I believe I would have just received an identical

I've had this for about 3 weeks now because I wanted yet another backup for my family pictures and some of the more interesting videos (I always back up the stuff that I really care about on several drives kept reasonably apart from each other). I can't think of any major issues and the only minor ones are the orange light that glows every time the disk is accessed - yes, we know, data is being read or written to the disk by the computer - and the external power supply.
Overall impressions: easy to install. I just plugged it in and... that was it on my Windows machine. The unit comes with some backup software but I like to be in control myself so I can't say that I bothered testing it. It's good to know it's there though. The size is reasonable - not the smallest external hard drive you can think of but it's not enormous either.
Oh, and the price is great. In fact, my only regret is not buying it from Amazon because, it turns out, I paid too much for it elsewhere back then. It's also

I purchased this printer hoping to replace another wide format printer I own. Initially I was disappointed that I missed the fact there is no paper roll feature so I cannot purchase paper in rolls as I did with my older printer. While the prints are beautiful and quality is excellent, the printer will stop printing without warning, causing me to waste a lot of expensive paper. I will not be able to give away my older printer at this time after all.

Had only owned this camera for six weeks when it stopped working. The camera was not dropped and had been handled carefully. When powered on, the LCD displayed "Lens Error" and the camera never worked again. I loved the camera but will not replace it with another Canon as there seems to be an across the board manufacturer defect with Canon products at this time. Canon plays dumb to this but search google for Canon Lens Error and see for yourself before making your purchase. I was fortunate that Office Depot stood behind the product because Canon did not.

I'm an end-user, not a real tech-person. And there is nothing I love better than a product that tells you to plug it in and it will work just fine. I did and it does. Suddenly I have a terrabyte of trustworthy storage on my desk for my years and years of digital and digitalized photos. (I have been shooting RAW for two years and my "C" drive was gagging.) I also store off-site but it is a pleasure to tell Lightroom and Photoshop to look for the good stuff on my LaCie. And, when I finally decide to switch over to a MAC some day,the LaCie can quickly change its loyalty with me.

I ordered this 1TB hard drive to backup my pictures, music and movies form other hard drives with Carbon Copy Cloner. I like the multiple interface I can daisy chain my 500GB rugged to the FW800 port and works perfectly. I didn't install the backup softwares since they are not compatible with Leopard. The HD turns off automatically when I eject it from Finder which is a good feature but sadly the supplied cables are too short so you won't be able to hide the drive under your desk...

I have had nothing but problems with this 1 tb drive which is unusual since I own several smaller ones. This is my second exchange both had different problems the first made a grinding noise when I plugged it in, dead disk The second one worked fine for a while and when I had it filled, the drive turned into a RAW drive and my data was lost. it was also making a clicking sound and freezing my system. I checked to make sure it was not my system, computer etc but all other externals worked fine. (e sata and Firewire)
I do not want to worry about my backups, I'm going to get a better drive and put it into an esata case. You get what you pay for, this is junk.

The Brother 5250DN is a great value for home and small office laser printing. We own two of these (one in our home and one in our small office :-) and couldn't be happier with the printers. Here are my observations:
* Network ready, just plug it into your router
* Easy software setup
* Built in duplexing, allows for automatic double sided printing
* High yield cartridge Brother TN580 High Yield Black Toner Cartridge, good life and value for the money
Overall, I highly recommend this printer!

This is a OEM drive so that it all you get no screws or SATA cable so have them on hand. Also Register your drive Before you install you need the serial # off the drive to do so for your 5 year warranty. Good Value for the price per GB. Great Drive for back-ups

Before this camera I had a Powershot A620 that I dropped and screwed up the LCD screen. I didn't think I'd be able to tell much difference in the pictures since the S5 is only a few steps up, but the difference is huge! My pictures are so much clearer and the colors are so much more vivid. If you are considering a powershot, but not sure which one, I'd definitely recommend getting the S5 over any of the A series.
As a side story... something interesting that happened to me with this camera the first week I had it...
Well, I'm studying abroad in Japan. I got the camera like the day before I went on a 10 day Japan-wide vacation with my husband and in-laws. On the last day of my vacation, we were in Hiroshima and wanted to go to the Island of Miyajima to see the shrine lit up at night. Well, we took a taxi to the station, then took a tram but decided that was going to take too long, so we got off at a random station and took a taxi from there to the Ferry to go to Miyajima. While we

Our TV is a Samsung, so we thought we'd try out this printer b/c of the price. Print quality is pretty good, setup is quite easy, and it's very quiet. It's also a networkable printer (Ethernet and WiFi) so it was a no-brainer on which one to get.
The only "gripe" I have w/ this printer is the wireless setup--it is not very easy to do and the manual wasn't as detailed as it should have been. Basically, the printer uses 802.11b/g to connect to your wireless base station.
The easiest way to setup the printer that I've found is to do the following...
Install the software (Mac or Windows)
Change the IP address to a static one on your network that is compatible w/ your router (ex. If your router is 192.168.1.1, then make the printer 192.168.1.2).
Set the gateway to point to the router(ex. 192.168.1.1).
Restart the printer, and you're in business.
This was NOT how it was explained in the manual... it ended up taking longer following the instructions in the box, than it did to just do

Although not purchased from Amazon, this drive was the perfect solution to consolidate my music and video libraries. Performance has been about the same compared with a smaller 320GB Maxtor HDD which is being replaced. The high marks were for the price. I will be looking at purchasing a few more of these drives and putting them into an external RAID 5 enclosure.

I am very pleased with this printer. It was very easy to set up. I have printed, copied, scanned and faxed and all was done very well. I need to spend time figuring out the scanning software since it did not work well to scan some documents (that were not dark enough to just fax) and then send them to the printer fax. I ended up printing out the documents and then faxing them directly through the printer fax. I suspect that other reviewers are correct in that the packaged scanning software is not as good as it was a few years ago. Overall, I'm very pleased with the multifunction printer and would buy it again. The only function missing is automatic duplexing.

If your are having trouble using a eSata expanded drive with DirecTv, this is your baby. Slip it into an Atec MX-1 enclosure and plug it into the back of the HDDvr and take yourself an extended vacation and when you come home all your preferred programs will be waiting on you. Lots of hours available to record you favorite shows.

I bought this printer for a home office expecting very light usage. The printer feels very cheap. All the doors and moving parts feel flimsy. What made me return it was its power usage. When it first comes on and when it powers up to print, the power consumption spikes to around 12 amps. That is way more than the docs specify and enough to make my UPS click over to the battery for a second. With a few more things on the circuit, it would trip the breaker. After warming up (and until it goes into sleep), it periodically spikes to 7 amps, which blinks all the lights in the room.
Rather than re-wire my office to put it on a separate circuit, I returned it and got a HP M1522nf. Sturdy, similar price and features, clean power.

I've just finished installing a group of these in RAID configuration, and am happy to report that they are fast, quiet, and cool. Really a great balance of performance, capacity and security. Western Digital seems to be on a roll lately, with lots of innovative products.
I agree with the review that states that Amazon needs to be specific about whether computer parts are OEM. OEM equipment often does not carry the warranty that consumer equipment does, and I personally have seen too many OEM drives fail... I now buy only retail drives. OEM drives aren't tested as thoroughly... they leave that up to the builder.

There is a fixed amount of improvement in a camera, and this is obvious in the SD 790. The quality is impressive and the camera is small, compact and feels right in hand despite being so small. The screen is amazingly large, giving the photographer unexpected amounts of image when previewing pictures. The qualiy of the screen is very good and the image stabilization makes a huge difference.
However, one must be careful that these qualities start eating in the robustness of this camera.
For example, the camera is compact and to achieve a size smaller than a deck of cards, the viewfinder had to go. That limits angle from which you can preview and you may get some pictures wrong because you look at the previewing screen from an angle that you can't see well. The compact size limits the length of the zoom also.
To get a large screen you expose a large surface of ... well ... LCD panel. This becomes easier to break and I I sadly learned, once that is broken you can;t use the camera since
