HP LaserJet P1505 Printer-LASERJET P1505 LASER 24PPM PRNT1200X1200 LTR LGL USB 2MB
Every year we rotate out about 250 printers of a total around 700 printers. That means we are on a three year rotation schedule. The batch going out this year is some pitiful Brother printers that are only one and one-half to two years old. The ones we are keeping past their rotation time are some HP1012 and 1022 printers that have performed flawlessly. Their replacements are these 1505s.

These printers are simply well-suited to their jobs. They are shared at every installation where we use them. They have been fault free so far and most likely will be if they mirror our experience over the last 20 years with HP printers. They are not network printers or meant for heavy production use. For that you have to expect to spend a few more dollars.

Based on our experience here with these printers I bought one for home and it is performing flawlessly.

I would recommend this printer to anyone who needs an everyday, reliable, easy on the combustibles printer.

Sony 20x External USB 2.0 Double-Layer DVD RW/CD-RW Drive
This CD/DVD drive/burner from SONY works great, and the drive looks good on my desk. Unfortunately it is not totally compatible with Mac OS 10.4 (Tiger). (It does ship with PC software.) At first I could not figure out how to open the Sony drawer on my Mac G5 Tower. The eject button on the keyboard opens only the internal CD/DVD drive. Eventually I found that iTunes has a preference setting to select the drive, and the eject button in iTunes will open the Sony drive. But this is inconvenient. I contacted Sony, and here is the reply:

"Sony bundles Nero Recording software for Windows with this unit. If you would like to use this drive on a MAC you will need to purchase MAC recording software. Please visit this website for 3rd party software information. [...]

Thus there may be a hidden expense if you are buying this drive for the Mac.

By the way, I did find another solution for opening the Sony drawer without having to buy new software for the Mac. With Automator, I used the "Run Shell

HP LaserJet P1505 Printer-LASERJET P1505 LASER 24PPM PRNT1200X1200 LTR LGL USB 2MB
It's been an roller coaster battle getting this printer to work consistently on a Mac. For one thing, the box didn't contain any documentation, and there wasn't any on the CD containing the drivers.

Once installing the drivers from the CD, I immediately had problems printing from Word. This was rectified by changing the formatted printer from "any" to the specific printer.

After this, I had more issues. The printer will stop printing. It will flash forever but never print your documents. Rebooting the computer and deleting the printer does nothing to fix it. The only thing that did allow me to print, albeit for a short while, is to delete the printer and reinstall the drivers that I downloaded from the HP site.

After pulling my hair out for awhile, I stumbled onto some open source drivers that do work. Visit the Linux Foundations's OpenPrinting page at [...]#Printers. I discovered this through this link, [...], which has some directions. Replace HP1100 with the P1505 for best

Western Digital My Passport Essential Hard Drive-320GB MY PASSPORT ESSENTIAL 2.5 2.5IN RED

The Western Digital My Passport Essential 320GB USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive (Real Red) is the largest capacity in the portable essentials line-up. This comes in a variety of colors including black, red, yellow, white and blue.

They say that this is the update to the regular Western Digital 320 GB Passport 2.5" USB 2.0 Hard Drive and I own both of them. In fact I also own many other portable hard drives in the Western Digital passport lineup and so far I couldn't be happier. All of these are great for mobile backups of data, though slower to copy large backups than their A/C powered MyBook big-brothers.

The Looks

The drive has a nice shiny exterior. The case can scratch in transit and the surface also attracts fingerprints and dust. The lighter colored models (white, yellow) show the fingerprints and scratches much less than the darker ones (black, red and blue). But the look is still nice and you can easily purchase a case or holder for the drive if it bothers you. Most versions

Sony 20x External USB 2.0 Double-Layer DVD RW/CD-RW Drive
Contrary to some other reviews and the tiny little "Mac Compatible" sticker on the front of the box, the NERO software that comes with the Sony Burner is NOT Mac compatible. The user guide clearly states that using software other than that supplied is not covered by warranty and not supported by Sony. Search the web and you'll fine more than a few unhappy purchasers who planned to use this with their Mac.

The operating system requirements are as follows:

Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition * Microsoft Windows XP Professional * Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional * Microsoft Windows Vista

You will find Mac OS nowhere else on the box, the instructions, or in the user guide. Mac Users - you're on your own. Disc Utility or Finder and no warranty, and it still makes coasters.

Western Digital My Passport Essential 160GB External USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive - Midnight Black
This is a great little backup drive. I use the older MacOS 10.3.9 on a 1.25 GHz PowerPC G4. The drive is (all but) completely compatible! I recommend reformatting the drive for Mac users; the PC filter hic-cups on special characters and other Mac eccentricities! No power cord, no transformer, just a USB 2.0 plug. A great little drive for the money!

Western Digital My Passport Essential 320GB External USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive - Intense Blue
The Western Digital My Passport Essential 320GB USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive (Intense Blue) is the largest capacity in the portable essentials line-up. Western Digital My Passport Essential Hard Drive-250GB MY PASSPORT ESSENTIAL 2.5 2.5IN BLUE
The Passport Essentials portable hard drive line-up comes in a number of bright colors, including this Intense Blue, Red and of course black. Other colors are sold at different retailers and are slowly being listed on Amazon.

This is an update to the WD Passport Portable Hard Drive 250 GB. I've bought plenty of these drives in many sizes. I can tell you that the only real differences are the smaller cache memory, which ironically doesn't seem to really alter the transfer speeds I get in real use, and some changes to the annoying included software. This is par for the course with external hard drives and USB drives. Just delete the software or don't use it. Make your backups by copying and pasting stuff and you'll be much happier.

The new essentials drive case is shiny all over and slightly thicker than the original version. Both are very similar in terms of performance and great for mobile backups of data. But both are also slower to copy large backups than their A/C powered

Western Digital My Passport Essential Hard Drive-250GB MY PASSPORT ESSENTIAL 2.5 2.5IN BLUE
This is the 4th WD Passport hard drive I've bought, I have them connected to all our pc's and laptops. It gives me a lot of extra space for backup - like my itunes library - and since it's portable I can move them to different computers when I need to access or save something. Not much bigger than a deck of cards so it won't take up a lot of space. Simple to install, just plug in USB cable, no A/C necessary. I highly reccommend this item.

Western Digital My Passport Essential Hard Drive-250GB MY PASSPORT ESSENTIAL 2.5 2.5IN RED
I did not buy this drive, initially, because of the negative review, here! I bought the LaCie portable instead which was a big mistake --- its not near as good as this Western Digital. I bought my passport at BestBuy when it was on sale because it would be very easy to take it back. No need to take it back --- I love the drive, its smaller than the LaCie and has more capacity.

I have a MacBook Pro and it worked great right out of the box. I also have an old iMac G4 running Tiger and the old USB 1.1 --- I did not expect it to work here based on the reviews but to my surprise, it worked great on the old iMac --- I also tried it on my Play Station 3 and again it worked great.

I am so impressed by this little drive, that I will be buying Western Digital desk top drives when I replace my LaCie drives.

Western Digital My Passport Essential Hard Drive-160GB MY PASSPORT ESSENTIAL 2.5 2.5IN RED
I love the color a lot, great contrast with my black CaseLogic Small External Hard Drive Case. The product itself is really easy to use. You don't have to install any software to use the product; however, it is best to register the product right away when you get it to upgrade your warranty. the hard drive is small and easy to transport data from your computer's hard drive to this hard drive. it doesn't make a lot of noise, just a little vibration but nothing major; and the most important thing is it doesn't get hot. On the scale of 1 to 10, i give it a 9.5.

HP LaserJet P1505 Printer-LASERJET P1505 LASER 24PPM PRNT1200X1200 LTR LGL USB 2MB
I have bought several 1505's and 1505N's and overall had a great experience with them. They are the replacement entry-level Laser monochrome printer for the 1022/1022N. I like them better because they print faster than 1022 (in my experience) and have a power button on the front.

I did receive a bad 1505 but I emailed Amazon and they overnighted me a new printer and emailed me a pre-paid RMA label. Couldn't have been easier - Amazon rocks!

Great little printer! (If you need something a little heftier with HP, I would look at the LJ1320 and so on...)

16-Port 10/100/1000 Mbps Gigabit Ethernet Switch
This is a boring category - especially for a small business with only moderate networking requirements.

I needed a short depth form factor to fit into a rack mount system. This device fit.

I wanted 1 GBPS to maximize desktop to NAS backup. This unit delivered. I can max out the link using Norton Ghost to DLink NAS from my Dell desktop. There was no performance degradation from adding 100MB and 10MB devices to the switch (there isn't a lot of traffic on the network).

So, it simply delivered on all needs.

Apricorn 8x DVD RW/CD-RW Drive with LightScribe - (Double-layer) - DVD R/ RW - USB - Portable
Problem 1-it is not technically mac compatible. i called the service center, and they weren't sure either. the lightscribe print-on-disc feature (seems very cool) doesn't work.
Problem 2-the disc tray doesn't close right. the whole drive seems cheap.
Problem 3-for a couple days it worked great, but not anymore. i have wasted 12 discs trying to find the magic combination of settings to get it to work...nada.
Problem 4-for a total of 21 discs, 9 were usable.

Sony VAIO® VGN-CR390EB 14.1" Notebook - Black
Take this review as it comes as it comes from a non-computer expert but being a child of the 90's I know what I need to know. Vista takes some getting used to but I'm sure you've heard that, it isn't as bad as some say though. You do have 250 GBs and an Intel Core Duo processsor which is way more then my Desk Top had, though it was outdated. It is fast and great looking. My only dislikes are the speakers and the screen. The speakers are next to the keyboard which makes them hard to hear, you can't have the TV on or radio and expect to hear 'em and the screen is just a bit small also the whole thing seems to pick-up dust and prints real easy. If you can get past these minor issues then its a good lap-top. It was a little on the high end when a brought it but the price seems to be coming down. If it comes a little lower then I would say its definitely worth it.

AMD A64 X2 5000+ 2.60GHz Black Edition Retail
Pros: Over-clockable, runs at very low temperatures (mine at 33*C in 100% load) which means you can push it far. Great multitasker. 15% performance gain if you run it at 3GHz according to the various tests I had run, and this without even playing with the voltage. Very good at floating point.
Cons: No fan (this is to be expected since it's for OCing), I run mine with a cheap $25 Rosewell. 2x512 KB L2 seems a bit low for something made in 2007, this would inevitably affect performance due to latencies.
Other: If you don't plan to overclock, may be you should get the Windsor - it would perform better right out of the box and would come with the cooler. No Intel CPU could match the performance/price ratio of this baby. I am very happy with mine.
