Toshiba PSLE0U-00H00J Satellite L355D-S7809 17.1" Notebook
Toshiba has a solid build; they are tough & reliable. As a computer professional for over 30 years,
I've owned & worked with all major brands, including 'clone' PCs. The top corporate choice in
portable/laptop/notebook PCs is TOSHIBA. With new lower prices - especially the current deals on
Amazon - this, and many other Toshibas, are an excellent choice.

The only concern that I & my employees have is the OS: we prefer MAC OS, but we also use MS-XP
and MS-Vista. (the problems with Vista, although some still remain, are largely over-hyped) So, if
you're going with the MS operating system, then you might consider getting your new Toshiba with
MS-XP and upgrading to MS-Vista later. (Toshiba offers this option.)

Pro II Series 2-Way 2GHz Video Splitter
I almost did not purchase this product because of previously poor reviews; however, I saw that the Acoustic Research 3-way splitter, identical to this one in every way except for the number of connections, had received very good feedback. So I decided to take a chance on this one, and I'm glad I did!

Contrary to what I had read from another reviewer, this splitter did not cause any signal degradation. I am using it with two digital cable boxes and good-quality coax cables, and both signals are strong; the picture and sound are crystal clear despite having been split into two. The purely digital and premium movie channels I subscribe to also are perfectly clear.

I should mention that I did contact my cable company before installing the splitter to ensure that my signal strength was strong enough to work with such a device. They assured me that nine times out of ten, the signal strength coming into a house should be strong enough to split at least two ways and usually even three. Perhaps

Apple MacBook MB061LL/A 13.3" Notebook PC (2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 1 GB RAM, 80 GB Hard Drive, Combo Drive) White
I like the fact that I can run XP Pro on it and MAC OSX. It's thin and small, has a built in camera, light weight, and doesn't run too hot. Its also easy to upgrade. I've put 3gigs of RAM in, and 250 gig H/D (Fujitsu SATA 2.5" H/D). This is an awesome machine and I use it a lot to do imovies. Cold Eyes

Toshiba Satellite X205-S9810 17" Laptop (2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T5750 Processor, 3 GB RAM, 320 GB Hard Drive, DVD Drive, Vista Premium)
Our big leonberger puppy Bronco chewed on my oldest sons Asus G1 series computer. Thus he lost his homework stored on the computer and his computer. However, this is the replacement for it, and it is a decent computer. We told Best Buy the truth and they still replaced it, which was nice of them (we had a service plan). However, I noticed that Amazon has this computer for about $100 less than Best Buy sold it for.

The specs for the laptop are very good, 3GB of RAM, 2.4MHz Intel core 2 Duo T8300 processor (fast), NVIDIA SLI Dual GeForce3 8600T GT with 512MB VRAM (a very good graphics card), 6 USB 2.0 ports, HDMI output, and 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet, Quad-band Wi-Fi LAN (we use both wireless and Ethernet), and it has a fast access (7200RPM) 320GB hard drive (and much more).

A large hard drive is nice, because the kids always run out space and I have to buy external hard drives that are a real pain to drag around on trips. Personally I am very tired of the puny 60GB and 80GB hard drives.

Sony VAIO VGN-AR720E/B 17" Laptop (2.0 GHz Intel Pentium Dual Core T7250 Processor, 2 GB RAM, 320 GB Hard Drive, Vista Premium) Black
I really bought this machine for the blu-ray device and it's ability to use it with an HDCP compliant TV. Well it turns out that this machine has major issues with doing just that seemingly simple task. I have spent 3-4 hours a day for five days with Sony to resolve the matter only to lose WinDVD entirely. Just as an FYI the backup and recovery software from Sony does not contain the original WinDVD install. So please beware if any Sony tech person asks to uninstall it because there is no way to re-install it. They had to move mountains to get me the install back on my laptop again. And all I called about was to get it working on the TV...which is also a Sony 760p TV. So it never worked. Other than that this machine is fantastic. It does run pretty hot though so watch out and it's size and weight makes it a bit impractical for travel.

Sony VAIO® VGN-CR390EB 14.1" Notebook - Black
Take this review as it comes as it comes from a non-computer expert but being a child of the 90's I know what I need to know. Vista takes some getting used to but I'm sure you've heard that, it isn't as bad as some say though. You do have 250 GBs and an Intel Core Duo processsor which is way more then my Desk Top had, though it was outdated. It is fast and great looking. My only dislikes are the speakers and the screen. The speakers are next to the keyboard which makes them hard to hear, you can't have the TV on or radio and expect to hear 'em and the screen is just a bit small also the whole thing seems to pick-up dust and prints real easy. If you can get past these minor issues then its a good lap-top. It was a little on the high end when a brought it but the price seems to be coming down. If it comes a little lower then I would say its definitely worth it.

Sony Vaio Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz Laptop Computer (Refurbished)-Sony VAIO VGN-CR220E/P Notebook
I have owned this computer for less than 6 months and in the past 6 months three things have broken. First the left click broke, I sent the computer into Sony and they replaced it. A few months later my computer turned off and would not power on. I sent the computer to Sony and they replaced my motherboard. A week after receiving the computer back my screen started to malfunction. There was a dotted line that would appear and blink then go away for a few seconds only to return again. I called up Sony support and as I was on the phone with them my screen began to fade completely to white then flash back to normal than fade to white again. Now I have sent it back to them again for another repair. Two major repairs in less than 6 months is ridiculous.

Toshiba Satellite X205-S9810 17" Laptop (2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T5750 Processor, 3 GB RAM, 320 GB Hard Drive, DVD Drive, Vista Premium)
Pros: 3 gigs of RAM, an 8700 GT, and a competent processor run all of today's games nicely. The speakers are the best built-in laptop speakers I've ever heard. They really fill the room. Toshiba's software provides a number of media options. There are six USB ports. The integrated sound is better than other onboard sound I've heard. HDMI ports. Sleek, if somewhat girlish-looking, design on the back cover. 320 GB of storage space.

Cons: Some relatively minor complaints: the feel of the keyboard is a little untraditional, though that may wear off; there is no DVI port; the computer comes loaded with too much annoying trialware; the big obnoxious Call of Duty 4 sticker on the laptop advertises a game that isn't even included; the keyboard shortcuts (like Fn+Esc to mute the sound) are done via software and not via hardware. The only significant complaint is the viewing angle on the monitor, which is actually worse than my 2005-era Dell XPS gaming laptop. This means you may have to do

Dell XPS M1330 Midnight Blue 13.3" Widescreen Ultrathin & Ultraportable Notebook. Intel Core2Duo T5550 (1.83GHz), Vista Home Premium. 2GB RAM, 160GB HDD, Slotload DVD+/-RW, webcam & Bluet
After reading lots of good reviews for the Dell XPS M1330 (e.g., cnet and pcmag websites among others), I purchased two of them, one for my wife, one for me. The configuration of our laptops is a bit different than the one on this page, and I urge you to custom-configure yours at dell's website rather than buying a pre-configured one (unless you're in too much of a hurry to wait an extra week to get it custom-built to your specs).

We both love the laptops. First, I'll list all the good things, then a few negatives about the laptop, then some negatives about dealing with Dell.

We both got the optional LED display (extra $150). Compared to the standard LCD display, the LED display is brighter, more energy efficient (meaning longer battery life), and makes the computer a couple tenths of an inch thinner and a couple ounces lighter. The LED display is noticeably nicer than the LCD display (which isn't bad, but is certainly not better than the average glossy laptop display). The only

HP Pavilion dv2840se NoteBook AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-60(2.00GHz) 14.1" Wide XGA 4GB Memory 250GB HDD 5400rpm DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce 7150M
I have Sony SZ110 laptop which I bought two years ago. I decide to look for a new one since the Sony seems to run very slow consider the amount of money I paid for the Sony one($1500). I have looked at HP, Dell, Gateway, and Toshiba, and then decide to go with this HP. I did a custom build this laptop on HP site and cost around $1250. When I saw at best buy discount for $799 ($100 off), I didn't wait very long. I have been a long fan of Sony due to their quality, however, this time it is HP.

Pros: 1) I like the design and the finishing - very shine and glossy. At night when you turn it on, the blue light on the laptop looks outstanding 2) The performance is very good. I have alot of software on this machine including Adobe CS3 suite and this thing shut down in 30 seconds and will boot everything up in 1 minute - fully load. 3) A great price for this kind of laptop.

Cons: 1) The volume control is slow to reponse when using the assign buttons. 2) this baby give out heat about 20-30%

Smart Buy dx2300 Intel Core 2 Duo E4400 2GHz Desktop
The HP dx2300 is a well built well thought out computer. It is of solid steel construction with very little plastic on it. I added 2 more GB of RAM and it handles Photoshop work with ease and is very fast. I also added a dual monitor video card and that is working perfectly.

This computer seems to have everything you need or can be expanded to your needs, and it has nothing you don't need. I would buy it again in a minute. Indeed, I own the dx2000 and dx2200 in addition to the dx2300 and am very happy with all three.

I purchased this laptop for my wife to replace a bulky 17" unit for her. She loves the smaller size and the speed even impresses me (I'm typing this review on my 17" laptop that runs dual hard drives, dual SLI video cards and the fastest dual-core processor you can get today). The video quality is very good and the easy connectivity to wireless networks is very helpful to my wife. Overall, this isa great buy for the money. If I hadn't just bought my 17", I'd probably get one for myself (this coming from someone who upgrades his laptop every 12-14 months - so you know it's a good one).

Sony VAIO Laptop with Intel Centrino Processor Technology - Indigo
I was given this Vaio as a gift and within a few weeks of normal use, the unit began shocking me through the chrome strip on the front and sides of the casing. I tested it with a multimeter and the unit is releasing up to 12 volts of electricity when its plugged in through this strip. It is a painful and annoying problem. I sent the unit in to Sony for repairs as it was still well within warranty, having only been purchased about a month previously then, and Sony refused to fix it, stating that there was nothing wrong and that even if it was shocking me, it would be well within UL limits. Sony also has a besmirched history across their brand for lack luster repair service, often telling customers with perfectly good warranties that their issue is not covered by Sony's all too vague warranty. Better hope your unit doesn't shock you or break, because Sony's already got your money and doesn't care.

XFX PVT94PYDD4 GeForce 9600GT 512MB GDDR3 700MHz PCI Express 2.0 SLI Ready Video Card ( Dual DVI / S-video )
A few complaints about this card.
The jack for the S/PDIF Cable is soft and weak, it can get deformed just by trying to plug the cable into it so be careful. Also the manual failed to say which pin on the gfx card was signal and which was ground. I just used the standard colour coding for S/PDIF Cable; white as signal and black as ground.

Big error, the shader clock is not 1790Mhz, it is really 1750Mhz so do not expect to get 1790Mhz shader clock. This was also an error on the XFX product page but I asked them about it and they corrected the spec on their website now.

This is a highly overclocked model yet the design is the same nvidia reference design that BFG and eVGA uses so all 3 brands are really the same, for overclocked models one would expect to get a 3-phase power design atleast. This card comes with the standard 2-phase power design.

The biggest con of this card is that it comes bundled with Company of Heroes, while some people may like that game, I find THQ games to be very

Sony VAIO Laptop with Intel Centrino Processor Technology - Indigo
I can't tell you how happy I was about three weeks ago when I got this Gorgeous Pink Sony Vaio as a gift! Let's just put aside that my favorite color is PINK and this is just the most beautiful pearly pink color I have ever seen. It's like an accessory.

This being the "tool of my trade", yes, I'm a reviewer and a wanna' be author. I have SO many manuscripts started, it isn't even funny. Oh well, some day! I immediately noticed how bright and colorful the screen is. It's a 14.1 inch Screen and it looks amazing! It also comes in a variety of colors for a Great price!

It took me all of two minutes to have the Vaio up and running wirelessly online! It's very fast, runs my AOL, and my music, also it runs my Microsoft Office Professional without a problem. I've owned other Vaios and have loved them all as well. *This one is my very favorite hands down.

It has a lot of room on the hard drive, is super quick, gorgeous color and user friendly. I'm not the most computer literate person, but

Sony VAIO Laptop with Intel Centrino Processor Technology - Indigo
I originally went to Sony web site for this laptop to be built but Amazon had the same laptop ready to go, and I ordered it at 2pm on a Wednesday and it arrived the next day. It is a fantastic laptop, clean looking, all the applications I need were included, including some great trial applications I will purchase, for the money the Viao is a great buy

20 iMac - Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz 1GB Memory 250GB Hard Drive
We own more than 8 imacs at our ad agency. We just received the newest 20" aluminum model and the display is so bad its almost unusable. All our other imacs are woonderful. This new machine is fast and reliable, but the viewing angle and color fidelity is so bad, you cant even move your head without the colors shifting. This is really a bummer... I heard there's a class action lawsuit brewing over this problem.

Toshiba PSLE0U-00H00J Satellite L355D-S7809 17.1" Notebook
I love my present Toshiba Satellite, which I use for everything (phone, tv, work, school, etc.), so I ordered this Satellite as an exciting upgrade. I use Lightscribe a lot for labeling my cdr's and dvdr's, and I thought "Labelflash" was the same thing. If this is important to you, you should know that it's not the same thing -- like VHS and Betamax, they are competing standards. Unfortunately, since Labelflash is pretty rare, the blanks are around 3x the price of Lightscribe blanks, and are only available at a handful of on line vendors. In addition, Labelflash uses the dvd laser so there are no cdr labelflash media. I found out just in the nick of time and cancelled my order. But if labeling your media with something other than a Sharpie isn't important to you, then don't worry about it.

Sony VAIO VGN-AR720E/B 17" Laptop (2.0 GHz Intel Pentium Dual Core T7250 Processor, 2 GB RAM, 320 GB Hard Drive, Vista Premium) Black
This is my third Sony and probably my 10th laptop. It is by far my biggest dissappointment in a Laptop and a Sony (especially for the price). If I didnt have to suffer a 15% restocking fee it would be on it way back and I would be buying the comparable HP model Circuit City put on sale this weeek for $434 less, even accounting for no tax and free shipping. The only difference on this model is faster processor speed. Here are my issues! First the computer has problems with all the drop down menus. It wont scroll properly; the only way you can get it to accept a selection is by holding down the control key and hitting enter. This includes opening up the screensaver menu and the sound menu. The screensaver menu will keep defaulting to Windows Logo and the sound menu keeps defaulting to a volume of 0.Speaking of speakers excuse the pun, compared to my Toshiba which this unit is supposed to be replacing the sound level is extremely low and very hard to hear.External speakers are going to have

ThinkPad T61 Education - Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz Notebook
I bought a top-of-the-line version of this for my son for med but it turned out to be completely unreliable. And 9 of the 10 others in his class who had Lenovo's had the exact same experience. Only 1 was satisfied. What's worse, when we had a disagreement with Lenovo over whether we should pay for a repair that did not fix the problem, the head of Lenovo's customer service department told me -- and this is an exact quote -- "I don't care what's good for the customer, I care what's good for Lenovo. BEWARE!
