I was looking for a compact notebook to replace my old Sony Vaio and, after much research, decided on this laptop. I have not been disappointed, and am in fact very pleased with it.
The pros: it is fast, well designed, easy to use, and fairly compact. It's light too - not quite as light as the Sony 13 inchers - but for me that did not justify the insane increase in price for the Sonys. Also i like how it runs all my old XP programs without a hitch. It feels solid and well built, and the screen is nice and bright.
The cons: BEWARE! Amazon got the photo for this product wrong - it DOES NOT come with a fingerprint reader! If you are interested in that, there are other models in the u405 series that have it. Another thing that is not that great is the battery life. This model has the lower level battery, and probably won't last more than a couple of hours. Again, other models of the same series do have the bigger battery. So, if that's important to you, I would recommend going with

I purchased this laptop a month ago and I am very satisfied. It is thin and very light, and also it is stylish! Its size is perfect because it is small enough to take it with you everywhere and also you can work accurately on it (you can read the letters because their size is not too small). I highly recommend toshiba, this brand is forever, I changed my old toshiba because I got bored with it, but it still works perfect.

I purchased this computer to replace my 3-year-old HP laptop, which was reliable but heavy and running out of hard drive space. I seriously considered a MacBook because I wanted a computer that was easily portable, and I was somewhat skeptical about Vista, but this turned out to be a great choice. This Toshiba is even lighter than a Macbook and has a much larger hard drive and more RAM, all for a much better price. So far I haven't had any complaints with Vista, though that may change when I go back to school and need to use it to write papers, etc. The Toshiba has an overall nice look and feel--keyboard and touchpad are very comfortable to use and don't feel cramped despite the small size of the computer. If you're a PC user considering the jump to Mac, take a good look at this computer first.

Very happy with my purchase. It has no s-video port, or hdmi, only 3 usb ports, but 2.0 64X2 procesor, 3 gb ram, and it sise 13". Ideal for work! Excelent.

This is a nice starter computer, but beware, Dell screens are so dim they cannot be read easily in bright light environments. If you want to sit outside and read your e-mail, DO NOT BUY a Dell laptop. I wish I had known this before I bought the Dell XPS 1330, and I would have bought a Sony instead.

I like the fact that I can run XP Pro on it and MAC OSX. It's thin and small, has a built in camera, light weight, and doesn't run too hot. Its also easy to upgrade. I've put 3gigs of RAM in, and 250 gig H/D (Fujitsu SATA 2.5" H/D). This is an awesome machine and I use it a lot to do imovies. Cold Eyes

After reading lots of good reviews for the Dell XPS M1330 (e.g., cnet and pcmag websites among others), I purchased two of them, one for my wife, one for me. The configuration of our laptops is a bit different than the one on this page, and I urge you to custom-configure yours at dell's website rather than buying a pre-configured one (unless you're in too much of a hurry to wait an extra week to get it custom-built to your specs).
We both love the laptops. First, I'll list all the good things, then a few negatives about the laptop, then some negatives about dealing with Dell.
We both got the optional LED display (extra $150). Compared to the standard LCD display, the LED display is brighter, more energy efficient (meaning longer battery life), and makes the computer a couple tenths of an inch thinner and a couple ounces lighter. The LED display is noticeably nicer than the LCD display (which isn't bad, but is certainly not better than the average glossy laptop display). The only

I've owned many laptops and do computer support for my office, so after going though Sony, HP, and Compaq, I tried my first Dell laptop a couple of years ago - the Lattitude D820 which was a fast, durable, and dependable machine. My only complaint with that computer was its weight - over 6 pounds when you hauled it with the power supply. I was impressed with the fact that in contrast to my other laptops, the battery seemed to last forever and did not lose charging capacity over time. When I went to upgrade, I chose the M1330, sacrificing some screen area (15.4 vs 13.1) and resolution for a more portable package. The design on the 1330 is fantastic! The screen is brilliant and thin with bright LED backlighting. The resolution is perfect for the screen size, the brushed almunium and painted surfaces are crisp and clean. The XPS comes with dedicated and competent Dell support - I had a simple question which was quickly addressed by the support staff at Dell. Other cool features include

I used Macs extensively from 1985 through 1998 and then switched to PC's because by and large, 10 years ago, PC's integrated better in my work environment (my company switched from Mac notebooks to PCs as well for similar reasons, despite howls of protest from Mac devotees!)
When my "trusted" and souped up HP NX-5000 refused to power up all of a sudden, I needed a new machine. Although I was satisfied with Win-XP based systems, the new Vista based machines seemed resource hungry and not as backward compliant with software/peripherals as XP - at least, this was my experience with my son's Toshiba notebook running Vista Home. So I decided that the time was ripe to try a Mac again.
At home, we now have a ThinkPad T42 running XP, a Toshiba Satellite running Vista, a Dell Desktop running XP and now, my MB063LL/B with OSX and XP installed. We also have 4 printers - a multifunction Canon MF5550, a legacy NEC Superscript 870, a new HP 2605N color laser and an HP940c inkjet. Both OSX and Vista

I bought a XPS M1330 with a 4 yr service contract. This was my 5th Dell system. I spent three weeks with XPS support trying to get it fixed. I called at least 1 time every day and as many as 3 times a day. Every call lasted over an hour. I talked to XPS Tech Support and customer support. I have over 5 support numbers and yet every time I called I had to start over. They do not retain any information. They told me they would ship me a new part and I should return the bad one. The part they sent me did not work either. Then they sent me a UPS pickup order for the two original bad parts that did not work and the replacement part. I sent them back and got confirmation that Dell did receive the three shipments.
Yesterday I got a bill from Dell and I was shocked to find out that none of the parts I returned were credited on my bill. AND, they even charged me $98.95 for the warranty returned parts. I called billing and was on the phone with them for over an hour before they agreed

I adore my MacBook. Despite being a longtime Mac user, I almost did not buy a Mac when it came time to buying a laptop. I figured that I could buy a cheaper Windows machine that was just as powerful. Thank goodness I came to my senses! My husband had been through three laptops in the time that I had owned my Mac desktop, so that didn't portend well for those machines. And then both my daughter (a longtime Windows user who opted to go MacBook for college) and a few of my own college students convinced me to take a serious look at this computer. Wow.
Pros:
-- AirPort connectivity. On the road, while my husband is fiddling around on his Windows computer to connect to a new network, my daughter and I are already surfing the web. The MacBook also comes with Bluetooth capability.
-- OS X (now up to Leopard). Until you've used OS X, you have no idea what you've been missing. The users interface is so seamless that even the uninitiated can figure it out. You can create a Dock with

The VGN-SZ460N was my fifth Sony Vaio laptop in the last 10 years - I frequently travel for business, constantly seek improved computing performance and like the Vaio designs. When I first received the SZ460N, I was once again impressed with the computing power, design and light weight. It took me several days to install my normal applications (Office, iTunes, Adobe, etc) and configure to my preferences. Unfortunately, I completed all of this installation and customization using an exterior USB mouse.
When I took the Vaio on my first business trip after its purchase, I noticed a peculiar phenomenon - the mouse pad motion was backwards! I.e. When I moved my finger left, the mouse moved right; down was up; vice-versa.
I initially attributed this to a one-time glitch, so I simply rebooted my computer. The problem disappeared. Over time, however, I realized that the problem actually occurred much more regularly, except that I hadn't noticed earlier due to the USB mouse.

This is my first Apple computer. I have used laptops for years, for work I have a high end IBM, and I have also owned a Dell, Gateway, and HP laptop in the past. By far, this is the best computer I have ever used. The best way I can describe the laptop, and Mac OSX experience is SIMPLE. Everything about using it just makes sense. Whereas with Windows you have to know what you are doing, you have all these controls, and everything is hidden. With my Apple and Mac OS, it is all very intuitive. If you have never used a computer before, this is the one for you. Of course, we all know that it is plenty powerful for the most advanced users.
The construction of the laptop itself is great. The outside has picked up some very light scratches, nothing major. I use a wireless Mighty Mouse, and I really like the functionality of it, but the trackpad works very well. I never pack the mighty mouse if I am taking my macbook away from my desk on a trip or to a cafe, etc.

Pros:
-Design
-Lightweight
-Very good screen resolution
-Very good wired and wireless connection application
-Very good wireless reception
-Nice and friendly Sony software application for administration and update purposes.
-Long cord power adapter
-All features work as promised or advertised
-Wake up/start time is fast. From the time you turn it on to the time you are actually in your desktop it takes about 4 to 10 seconds.
Cons:
-The computer is very noisy. The fan and the hard drive. Mostly the fan
-It produces a lot of heat.
-Battery time (I expected to last at least 3 hours). But in certain and common conditions the battery ends very fast.
-Graphic card is not as good as expected in terms of overall performance.
-Heavy power adapter. That is a minus compare to the excellent lightweight of this laptop
-Keyboard is not as good as other computers for experienced typewriters: I am an experienced typewriter and I found my self having a hard time writing with this keyboard. From time to

This is my 2nd Vaio, I bought it because of the great form factor (weight, size, etc). My first Vaio (an older model) worked very well. This one is just plain awful.
The key problem with the laptop is the _basics_ just don't work. The webcam freezes. The wireless configuration disappears. The sound output stops through multiple reboots. Don't even bother with the fingerprint sensor.
In my first 45 days I've re-installed Vista once, and have spent no less than 5 hours on the phone with tech support.
Don't buy it.

on April 29 I opened the box. Since the computer was for my wife, I sat with her. After two hours of trying to understand Vista, she left. I spent the next two weeks trying to figure out how to do the things I had done on xp. I finally got to the point where I could show my wife how to try out Office which terminated in less than 30 days. She was doing her email on May 26 when she decided to visit the bathroom. She returned to a dead machine. I wrote emails, chatted and called many time to speake to the Indian spokes persons. On May 30 Fedx delivered a collapsed box though I still had the orginal. It took two hours to assemble. On May 31, I delivered it to Fedx. Sony gave instruction to follow it's progress. When I tried it, Sony web site said it could not find the "Event" and told me tocall the number which I had labored on for five days. Maybe Sony appreciates this process - all I can think of thank god I got it through American Express with their backup warranty and american speaking
