Although I purchased a refurbished laptop, it arrived in mint condition. My first surprise was the weight. It is quite heavy for such a slim computer. It functions like new. I am exceptionally pleased with the touch pad which requires a little pressure to move the cursor. On other touch pads I have to chase the cursor around the screen because the pads are too sensitive. I would not want to lug it around campus along with an arm load of books; however, it makes a great business computer when carried in a shoulder bag. Because of the weight, I wouldn't recommend it for those who need to balance it in your lap such as on a flight or train. These are the only downsides I have found. I am blissfully content with it.

Though I loved my previous laptop and used it with no complaints since November 2003, I feel like I was a caterpillar and now I'm a butterfly, using my new Toshiba L305D-S5581! Well, okay, I did have a complaint about how long it took my old PC to boot up and shut down, and was thrilled with my new Toshiba's faster accomplishments of those routine operations. I had expected slower instead of faster, due to VISTA and the additional programs which would be on the new laptop. I had XP on my old laptop. I like both versions of MS Windows OS, and can see the advantages of each, but VISTA is definitely the butterfly.
Even though many reviews have made what appear to have been valid complaints about products with the specifications this Toshiba (and other brands) has, I have not had any of those difficulties, and indeed have felt like wings have replaced my previously grounded slow motion.
I was foremost looking for a machine with at least 3 GB of SDRAM, and at least 200 GB HD. The choice

I purchased this laptop primarily based on the processor/RAM and hard drive specifications. The interface is simple, looks sleek and is not cluttered with too many keys. The screen size and resolution are good. So far the machine seems to deliver as expected.
It is definitely on the heavier side and so handling requires some effort. Amazon advertised the laptop as having a built in webcam, but that is not true. L305-S5902 model does not come with a webcam. There are other laptops in the L305 series that do have that feature but not this one. I am not sure why the webcam was misleadingly advertised especially when this is the only laptop in the L305 series that Amazon is currently offering.
For the price and performance from a reputed company, this is a good purchase.

This is an excellent laptop for business or student. THe screen is crystal clear with vibrant colors. Also, this model processes very fast even with multiple windows open.
If you're a 3D gamer, this probably wouldn't suffice but for working with office products & on the web it is an excellent choice.

Apple's site and other reviews provide the essential information on what was upgraded in this new MacBook Pro (two graphics systems; machined from solid aluminum; new industry-standard DisplayPort video out; new trackpad; other minor changes/upgrades).
But why get this computer rather than the much less expensive MacBook that appears almost identical?
1. The MacBook LCD display is poor. It is not just a smaller version of the MacBook Pro LCD display. It has washed-out blacks, poor contrast, limited viewing angles, and less vibrant colors. This is a huge difference. I confirmed this with a side by side comparison in the Apple Store (and the store staff member agreed), and you can find further discussion at gizmodo dot com (gizmodo.com/5063492/macbook-and-macbook-pro-dual-review).
2. The MacBook Pro's excellent new graphics chip (NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT) can be used to speed up all operations (not just graphics) when the new Apple operating system (Snow Leopard) is released in January.

Apple is notorious for constantly updating their products, more or less to keep up the status quo on their products. The new Macbook Pro is no exception. This beautifully constructed laptop is a work of art in many ways in which i will detail.
SCREEN
The MBP has had a beautiful screen for as long as i can remember and this new model is no exception. LED lit means that it is "instant on". when you open the lid, there is no warm up time like there is with other screens like LCD ect. The colors pop and are extremely vibrant and true. If you have seen an older MBP screen, you've seen them both, kind of. The new screen is all glass. The glass extends to the very outer edge of the lid, leaving no empty space. Simply put, you can't find a better screen, not even on a Sony machine (and i love sony also).
KEYBOARD
The new MBP has an updated keyboard. The first thing you will notice is that the keys are black as apposed to the old silver. The black adds a nice touch because it accents

This computer is large enough for me to see things easily, works well, quick and looks professional and nice! I love it and can't wait to install more software and get rid of my ibook for good. I am a busy elementary school teacher in upper grades and need to tote it to my classroom every day. I cart it to staff meetings and type up collaborative lesson plans on the spot. Thank you so much. Never thought I would go PC. Saw a lot of these in commercials during the summer Olympics 2008 and thought I should look into them. Glad that I did too. One of my better choices in life.

I have always owned a Sony laptop in the past and did not think I would ever switch. Then last year I bought a Lenovo Thinkpad. I always wanted an IBM thinkpad, and could not believe how cheap it was. It was true to form and a lovely little laptop, but it still lacked the bright Sony Screen.
When I saw the specs on this new Thinkpad I was excited at the possibilities - a huge RAM and Harddrive, but I must admit I was a bit worried about the screen.
Needless to say when my machine arrived I was excited to find that Lenovo had far exceeded my expectations. This machine is FAST, the screen so bright I turned the brightness down, and the face recognition a handy feature that stops you having to type in your password all the time. The whole style and design is awesome, with lots of controls to change settings or control volume and playback. Even the case and lid design make it look a really fancy machine.
The Vista version is the latest, and I found some software working on this machine

I have a multi-os environment. I have the system dual boot Visa and Ubuntu, and within Ubuntu, I'm running Sun's Virtualbox with XP Pro in it. The Virtualbox runs Adobe CS3 apps so some pretty heavy lifting for both environments (ubuntu running graphical and web development apps). It's great copying and pasting data between Ubuntu and XP and sharing files using VirtualBox's shared drive. This has been one of the best if not THE best laptop I have ever owned. Mine was a great value too. No complaints...

It's a strong name with a big reputation. I chose to buy a Sony laptop because everything I have ever owned with "Sony" written on it has been solid. This laptop computer is no different. It was easy to setup, connected to my network seamlessley and is a real joy to use everyday. With the exception of having to muddle through the transition to using Windows Vista and especally it's out of the box quirks... which I am over now. I can report that I am now among the those with portability and can slide into the red velvet half booth at starbucks to sip and surf with the other hip urbanites.

I presently also own a MacBook Pro with Leapord that is very easy to use. However , this new notebook Sony VAIO NR260E/W Laptop has Windows Vista and It just started clicking to whatever window it wanted to go to. I have to look into it more, but I do not like a machine that does its own thing.

The Sony VAIO VGN-NR270N/S does not come with many of the fancy things laptops bring today (no integrated camera, bluetooth, etc), so it won't be appealing to many. But it is the only way to have an incredible Intel Core 2 Duo Processor if you only have 600$. If you install 4 gb ram for another 100$, you have right there a top pc for the years to come without spending a fortune.
A big plus: wow, sony screens are the best
A big minus: It really has an awful amount of crapware loaded, as other reviews say. So do not hope to be enjoying the first day, you will spend it with the remove programs utility.

I ordered this laptop because my family needed an extra computer, and as I'm the closest thing to a power-user we have, I gave my own computer to my mother and purchased this machine. While the system is only a small step up from what I had before, it certainly does everything that the information on Amazon promises - which is not a lot, given how sparse the details are. The computer runs Vista without any problems; I haven't yet tried reconfiguring it for Linux, but I'm guessing everything other than the dial-up modem will work fine. The Aero interface runs smoothly, even on the integrated Intel graphics chipset (which is not officially supported by most newer games, but which can be configured to run just fine with a lot of them.)
The only real complaint I have is something that's going to happen with any preconfigured Windows system, which is the crapware that comes preinstalled. Without access to a program like PC Decrapifier (which you can get for free with a Google search), it'll

So much can be say about Sony's VAIO, but one thing is for sure: it's the perfect companion for working, studying or even for just have some fun on-the-road. I've bought this unit 2 weeks ago, and I couldn't be happier. Its runs smoothly with the 2 Gbytes RAM, the display is bright and clear, the keyboard is very comfortable (the keys are very well spaced), it comes with 4 USB ports (more than enough!) and with a 160-Gbytes hard drive (not too big, but considering it's a laptop you shouldn't keep all your data on it). The design is very stylish (I bought the night-blue model; I'm a blue-freak!). It's elegant and (perhaps the most important thing to consider) it is totally affordable. Honestly, I just can't believe I've got a VAIO for less than 700$!
Windows Vista runs quiet and quickly in this VAIO. Although many people find it annoying, I don't fell offended for all the software trials that come with it. And it takes only about 5 minutes (10 minutes top) to uninstall all of this software.

I had heard the rumours too: that once you buy it, they don't care.
It's true. They will say anything that sounds peachy, delivery dates, custom configurations, etc. I had given them another chance recently and it's the same story.
Their TV's are great, but they just don't really care about you, their bread and butter. The bloatware that comes with it is pretty terrible too. It was easier to just buy a new copy of windows Vista and overwrite all their trialware than it was to remove it all (which you never fully will).
I'm done with them, there are plenty of good alternatives..

This is my first laptop and my son thought I should get more ram but whats nice is I can add if I need it. I was pleased with the price, ease of use and the screen is crystal clear. I would recommend to anyone that needs a good basic laptop, after you remove all of the extra software you don't need. There were no reviews when I purchased this laptop and was a little skeptical, but I am very happy I made the purchase.

My model number is a little different (F767NR) but the specs match and my model may differ only in that I bought it from a bricks and mortar store near my office. Instead of Intel, mine is outfitted with AMD Turion64. The store cleaned up most of the advertising and set it up for me. This may improve the performance. I had someone to take it to when I needed to ask a question.
I wanted a laptop because I write and I hate being tied to a desk. I didn't need huge capacity but I wanted MS Word because that is compatible with most of my document files. I needed to make the jump to the hated Vista...what was wrong with XP?
Except for hating what Microsoft has changed in the MSWord interface, I'm very happy with the computer. It weighs less than six pounds and fits in a laptop case I already had. It's sleek. The screen is big enough to read easily. It boots up reasonably fast and is extremely responsive.

I own a Vaio and so does my girlfriend. Unbelievably, her charger does not work on my Vaio, and vice versa. Further, the Vaio does not accept SD cards so you have to carry a converter, plus, most ridiculously, my Sony video camera's memory stick does not fit Sony's memoery stick. Sony has produced different memory sticks for its video cameras, compatible maybe with who knows what, another converter to buy and carry. Meanwhile, no matter whether I turn off the wireless, the Sony feels compelled to keep warning me that my wireless is not connected. I'm through with Sony forever.

Pros: Aside from the lack of a slick alien face 'hood ornament' on the lid, this laptop reminded me very much of the first Alienware gaming laptop I got to play with some years ago -- only scaled forward with the times. It's powerful, upgradeable, and can easily replace most gaming and multi-media desktops. The laptop was purchased as a gift for my boyfriend, also an avid gamer, for the eventual release of the Champions Online MMO. It handles Age of Conan at high (not highest) settings, and handles World of Warcraft, City of Heroes, and a variety of single-player games very well. Back to the lack of a slick hood ornament: if you plan to skin your laptop, the subdued lid logo works to your advantage.
Cons: Runs a bit hot, not surprisingly. Picking up a cooling pad is a really good idea. Mousepad automatically comes with double-tap settings and there are no drivers out there to change this yet. Very annoying if one uses the mousepad, but in this case a cordless USB mouse is the primary pointer

I haven't had it long but I'm very pleased with it so far. The screen looks great, the keyboard feels nice, the touch pad works fine. The overall build quality seems great. It comes loaded with bloatware but then so does every other laptop. The recovery DVD's work (don't ask ;)) but recovery takes a long time and will make you think it's stuck in a loop. It eventually comes back to "out of box state." One nice thing about having done the recovery is that I was allowed to change the size of the partition during the process. I would definitely buy this model if I had it to do over again.
