I ordered this Vaio (in grey) from Amazon over a month ago when it was offered as a Gold Box item. His Compaq mini-tower had died two months prior and I thought a laptop would make more sense for him now.
I am not going to go into the technical mumbo-jumbo because you can see the specs posted in the product description section. Suffices to say that it is adequately supplied with memory, has sufficient disk storage and comes with... hmmm... Vista.
On the computer itself, it is a true laptop, meaning that it's not a TOO large mini-super-computer-emulator but not too small either. The display looks great. The keyboard is only adequate. This model does not come with a mouse so, if you don't want to depend on the little touchpad, make sure you have a USB mouse handy.
Installation... well you turn it on and it works. As it is always the case with 'consumer' computers, as soon as you turn it on, you are bombarded with tons of tutorials and various pre-installed trashware/bloatware - the usual

I bought the Acer Aspire 6920 after looking at several laptops. I was instantly drawn to the great styling, bright, wide 16" screen, plus the 4 gigs of RAM and Vista Home Premium 64-bit and the price was right: $700 after $50 rebate (that I received). This laptop is setup for movies, but is capable in other areas as well, including gaming (though don't expect high graphic settings in the latest games) and wireless internet. I was on the internet a few seconds after setting up Vista (that took about 20 mins).
The Acer 6920 has a touch pad, called Media Console (besides the normal mouse touch pad), that controls whatever audio or video is playing. You can control the volume, chapters in a movie, start, stop, pause, etc. with the touch of your finger. At first, I thought this was just a redundancy of what you can do on the screen, but have found it very useful. Instead of moving the mouse cursor and clicking on start, stop, pause, etc. all you have to do is touch the Media Console icons which

I've had this for 3 weeks and am now returning it.
Pros: Sleek, fast, screen looks great. For me the ideal size as a desktop replacement and providing portability around my apartment (too big to take it everywhere all the time).
Cons: This was the kicker. The volume control does not work. I tried numerous calls to customer service, did about 6 different patches (new driver installation, then uninstall quicklaunch then reinstall, restore point, recovery). It worked, then problem resurfaced 2 weeks later. Big issue is the volume adjustment pops up in a big black box in the middle of your screen every 5 or 20 seconds, making it impossible to enjoy surfing the internet. It'll disappear (the problem), then whenever I play a mpeg or video file, the volume clicking noise and icon box will constantly reappear. I'm going to avoid the dv5 series entirely. When i googled 'pavillion dv5 and volume bug' i noticed a lot of other people have the same complaint. Otherwise a great laptop - just google

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1DR97V2J52R9J Archos 5 is much better then iPhone, Intel MIDs, PDAs, Nokia tablets all put together. It has awesome video codecs support (now with 720p HD support with HDMI output), awesome connectivity (now with HSDPA dongle option), really fast browser using new 4x faster ARM Cortex processor, huge storage capacity, awesome large touch-screen and still fits nicely in any pocket. You can find more information at http://forum.archosfans.com

Nice little drive. No set-up required. I would give it a 5 out of 5 BUT. . . WD bills it as Mac OS compatible. Strictly speaking, this is true. What they don't tell you and you don't find out until you're trying to back up your files is that this drive has the same restrictive naming conventions as PCs. The result is that unless you restrict your name length and don't use characters such as dash or backslash when labeling your files, the process stalls out and you have to rename each file individually. It's a serious PIA. I would recommend that anyone using Mac look elsewhere.

UP DATE-later in the day on September 20, 2008: I just found out today that you CANNOT use the Internet at Starbucks, Barnes & Noble and McDonalds. I confirmed this with Archos' technical support. This is really bad! The whole point of me getting this was to use it to access Internet on the road. It only work with an open connection (free Internet) This is a serious limitation in my opinion and I may be sending it back because of this. Archos really dropped the ball on this one! What is the point of having mobile Internet access when you can access hardly anywhere!? No thanks!!! The sad thing is, this was the same problem with the Generation 5 series and they have done nothing to improve it. Very disapointing.
ORIGINAL REVIEW-written earlier today: I ordered my Archos 5 directly from Archos because I wanted to get it ASAP. I just got it a few days ago. My initial reaction was very negative because the first thing I tried to do was load some of my photos taken with my 40D. I quickly

Unlike what that idiot who "reviewed" the Archos 7 320GB Internet Media Tablet, i actually OWN this product. pre-ordered it from here at Amazon on August 25th, recieved it today. Have been playing around with it for a little bit, and so far, i love it. Seems much faster compared to the previous 605 WiFi 160GB i had, as well as the 604 WiFi 30GB. Websites load up rather quickly. Now... in all honesty, and also in all common sense... websites with more to them take a bit longer to load than others... say for instance navigating to Gizmodo.com takes a couple seconds longer to load than loading up a video from youtube after searching for it on Google.
Don't think i've seen a more beautiful player on the market. yeah, sure... the iPod Touch has a glass screen.... but who wants a $[...] 32GB player when you can have 120GB for $[...], or 250GB for $[...]? Opening the box to reveal the player that's pretty much all screen was freakin great. only 3 buttons on the entire device: power, volume

Bought a new laptop for the first time & maybe I am in the minority, but I still use my computer mainly for work. After spending over a thousand dollars on it, it does not come with ANY office software!!!!! You can do just about anything on this thing, but you can't write a letter. So. . .had to go and buy additional software to actually get some work done.
As for the computer itself, it does operate well, so far. Screen is clear and large enough not to get eye strain. But do find HP's constant pop-ups of eternal updates of software really annoying when you are in the middle of a project. They need to either put those things at the initial turn-on of the machine or the shut-down and keep them out of the work day. Does take some getting used to the rolling mouse on the keyboard if you have never used one.

This is a fantastic little printer. It is very small and light, and I can easily carry it around in my backpack (which is really helpful.) Setup is a little confusing and you need to be really careful when you install the print head, but when it is over, you won't have to worry about it ever again. Text is accurate and bold, and images show no banding and are very sharp (not full page U.S. letter ones though.) When printing images on glossy paper, they look amazing, and it is done very fast. About 1 minute for a 3x5 and about 4 minutes for a 8x10. An overall great printer. It will cost you a little bit though. I think its worth it, because I need the portability.

Tons of memory for the price, Very easy to use, plug in and store immediately, compact and the cord wraps around the edges of the drive and tucks in to the side when not in use. The end of the cord doesn't stick out as the picture indicates. It slides into a slot.

We bought a Gateway and Windows got hosed for some reason. We called 1-800-GATEWAY for support. Guess what? If you buy a Gateway anywhere but their website you must call a separate toll number. WTF!? Then we needed to restore it but the restore partition was bad. Had to get the recovery disk. They charged me $20 for a $1 CD-R. Then it wouldn't work, and they wanted to charge me to tell me how to use it. Again WTF? These people are horrible. Save yourself a lot of trouble and get a Mac. Get HP. Get an abacus. Anything but Gateway.

**-*-*Exc seller, I purchase for 5-9 Bussines Days, And I get The PC in only 3 days.*-*-*
--------Here are some Pros and Couns regarding the PC, -------
**Cons ** 1st -The pc only works w/windows Vista, I contact the Sony Support online, and the told me that for the moment the product will work only w/Vista, after some month will upgrade to XP, I hope so!!
**Pros**, The pc is very fast, The processor helps a lot, and the 3Gb memory too..the HD is enough to safe your videos, Music, files.
**Pros** The desing is exc, is for people who like high tech.
**Battery** like 3hrs.
Comment for the seller, The specification sd the machine comes w/ a processor Core 2 duo, but I recibe my pc w/ a sticker that sd Centrino, I find out the internal processor was the one mention on the box (the 2.0Ghz Core 2 duo). But at 1st time I just get scared about it.
In General, I love Vaio....

This is pricey, but compared to other products in this category it is not that bad. The DVR is the expensive part. I have to say that the DVR is feature-rich. Everything was plug-and-play. The mounting brackets for the cameras are top-notch. I was worried the wires would not be long enough for me to put cameras at each end of my house and still hook it up to the TV, but I had plenty of wire.
My two complaints are (1) the remote control sometimes has problems. Thankfully, I do not use the remote very often. What it does is sometimes activates the controls of a nearby button. For example, pressing play will sometimes make the video fast forward instead. It seems to be ok if you press the buttons slowly and hard, but you shouldn't have to do that. (2) This isn't specific to this item, but just a word of caution that I put some of the cameras indoors, looking outside through a window. At night, the infrared lights come on and reflect off the window so that there is no picture.

Overall, I like this hardrive. It is small and light, fits perfectly in my bag. Compared to the essential version, I would expect a better finish. It's still plastic, though matte and not as easily scratchable. The drive gets really warm after just a few minutes of use. The transfer is slow, at around 10 mb/s but that's what you would expect from a usb device.
Despite the fact that I like it, I would not buy it the second time.

I was originally going to give this product 4 stars, but after looking back at my review, I decided to change it to 5.
I am a college student going in to my second year as a Sound Recording Major. I received this laptop before my freshman year, and have found it extremely useful. I am in no way a computer aficionado, but this laptop does everything I need it to do. I have some recording software on my computer that requires a lot of memory, and the 3 GB of RAM makes it easy to have multiple programs running at the same time.
This is a great laptop for casual and home use, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to use it for this purpose.
The computer runs great, and the screen resolution is clear and bright. HOWEVER, here are my two major issues I have with this VAIO:
1. Not enough USB ports!! There are three USB ports on this machine, which could be enough for some people, but I had to buy a USB expansion hub. I prefer using a mouse, so with that plugged in, along with

at first wen i received this product, i was very frustrated with it and wanted to return it. i had problems with the external whenever it would "sync". However, after its completion, there was nothing in the folders after all that waiting. After having set it aside, i tried again, and luckily, it worked like new and it was everything I expected this product to be.

The last backup drive I bought was a 4 gig flash drive. Its nice but I should of just bought two of these there just as portable for adults . I bought this model it was only $10 more then the essential and the door on the USB data port is worth that much . IT came with the little bag too otherwise I was going to put it in a crown royal pint bag . Buying a case is worthwhile it comes with a 20% off coupon for one from WD . You would think they would just sell it with one at cost .
Thankyou other posters for telling me that it was formated in Fat32 . I plugged it in loaded all the software in my machine then I reformated it . The WD backup has a product code lock its on the quick instal manual so dont toss the instructions . Basically the real manual is in the software . If you loose it you can find it at the WD site . I figured I would loose mine when I reformatted to NSFT using my machine through exlporer . However since it was all loaded on my machine already it was fine . Infact when

This is my fourth SmartDisk hard drive that I own. Excellent quality and dependable service: not one crash, bug or problem.
SMARTDISK vs. VERBATIM
Make sure to look for the "SmartDisk" branding. Verbatim now owns SmartDisk and has put out a second Verbatim series that is cheaper BUT is all plastic and has no busy-in-use light. The SmartDisk version also has a metal enclosure which helps dissipate the heat produced by the unit, and the unit feels more "secure" and "solid".
FIREWIRE vs. USB 2.0 VERSIONS
Had no problems using the firewire version on my Mac OSX (Panther & Leopard). The USB 2.0 version is reportedly buggy. The firewire cable supplies power to the unit so you won't need to plug in a separate power cable. The USB 2.0 version occasionally does need a separate power cord. The USB 2.0 version is also ridiculously SLOW on USB 1.1 ports, and it's tricky to tell which kind of USB port you have on your computer since they look identical to one another.
