In short, the answer is yes! The mac is not a pc, and you need to know that if you have never had one before there is a learning curve. It just does not do things like you are used to , and it does take some getting used to.
A week after I had received mine, and after going through what seemed to be the thousandth tutorial, I remarked to my wife that I had really screwed up, and I should have stayed with a pc. Now, some weeks later, I have learned to really appreciate the mac for what it is, a quick, trouble free tool to be used and enjoyed. I am able to do what I want so much easier than with a pc, and I really like it.
Close the lid, and it hybernates immediately. Open it and it is operational within 5 seconds and that includes being on line.
When I have to use one of the pc's in the house, I am constantly reminded of how much I love the mac. The delays in operations that I had just learned to live with are now a source of aggravation that I am no longer willing to put up

This model is the best value macbook one could get.
I am using two year old macbook which can go only 2GB. But this can go 4GB RAM which is cheap now. DDR 2 667MHz.
I would recommend to any one.

It's amazing that this little gem still exists in Apple's lineup, what with the new aluminum MacBooks ('MetalBooks') having been unnecessarily stripped of FireWire and increased in price (the old $1500 pricepoint is now $1600).
Not so with this model, a white 'PlasticBook'... FireWire is still there (yay!), the price got cut to $999, AND they threw in a SuperDrive so you can burn DVDs (though to be honest, this last improvement was overdue).
While it lacks some of the niceties of the new MetalBooks (such as the multitouch trackpad, slightly nicer screen, and improved-but-still-not-great graphics performance), the nice price and inclusion of FireWire make this the best value in the new MacBook lineup.
Get one before Apple discontinues it.

I like the fact that I can run XP Pro on it and MAC OSX. It's thin and small, has a built in camera, light weight, and doesn't run too hot. Its also easy to upgrade. I've put 3gigs of RAM in, and 250 gig H/D (Fujitsu SATA 2.5" H/D). This is an awesome machine and I use it a lot to do imovies. Cold Eyes

After years of being a Windows user, I was ready for a change. I was fed up with constant crashes (probably didn't help that I was running Windows ME), viruses, Microsoft always adding new features without really fixing core problems, etc so after reading so much about Apple products I decided to switch. First, the good:
- My Mac (running on the latest Leopard OS) has a few pretty cool features. Time machine (back up software for ALL your stuff on the Mac) seems pretty good (I've seen the demo but have never used it yet since you need an external hard drive)
- Spaces, that lets you divide your screen (specially useful if you are running lots of programs at the same time)
- Much less "malware", no viruses, far less "pop up" stuff or programs being installed without you knowing
- And being a novice user, that is pretty much it for now.
Now for the bad:
- First, you can buy much more with the same money if you decide to go with a Windows-based system. Macs are pricey
- Despite what

Here's what I do with my laptop: I take it into Walt Disney World and write articles and reviews of attractions, restaurants and the like for a travel guide. I do much the same thing down here on Sanibel Island, where for another book I take my computer with me in my pickup, or on my bicycle, to dig up such details as beach parking lot spaces and hiking trail finds.
As you can guess, I need good battery performance. And it's for that reason alone that I waited for this newest MacBook model, and the reason I'm so happy with it. For the most part I only use Pages, so I'm not much of a power pig, but this is the first laptop I've ever had that makes it all day in the field on one charge. Don't get me wrong, I'm not typing that whole time by any means, but I often leave my MacBook on as I walk around Disney or drive from one beach to another, often open it up to type in a paragraph or two, and usually get in a couple of solid one- or two-hour writing blocks each day.
From what I've read,

I used Macs extensively from 1985 through 1998 and then switched to PC's because by and large, 10 years ago, PC's integrated better in my work environment (my company switched from Mac notebooks to PCs as well for similar reasons, despite howls of protest from Mac devotees!)
When my "trusted" and souped up HP NX-5000 refused to power up all of a sudden, I needed a new machine. Although I was satisfied with Win-XP based systems, the new Vista based machines seemed resource hungry and not as backward compliant with software/peripherals as XP - at least, this was my experience with my son's Toshiba notebook running Vista Home. So I decided that the time was ripe to try a Mac again.
At home, we now have a ThinkPad T42 running XP, a Toshiba Satellite running Vista, a Dell Desktop running XP and now, my MB063LL/B with OSX and XP installed. We also have 4 printers - a multifunction Canon MF5550, a legacy NEC Superscript 870, a new HP 2605N color laser and an HP940c inkjet. Both OSX and Vista

I've been a PC person for more years than I care to remember. My daughter and her husband have been Mac people for just about an equal number of years. Each has attempted to persuade the other over to their side. I finally made the switch to a MacBook a month ago. There were two things that swayed me to the Mac side. One was the positive information I found researching Leopard and the second was Vista (negative). I had been using an IBM T30 Thinkpad for several years and was reasonably satisfied with it's performance. It's OS was XP and having had various MS operating systems through the years, found XP to be one of the best. One of the best that is until I tried out my daughter's MacBook with Leopard...WOW!!! I've been using my MacBook for just over a month now and couldn't be happier. It is one fine machine with an excellent operating system. I did purchase MS Office 2008 for Mac and am also pleased with it's applications. If you've been using PC's for years, my only advice

First off, what I like about this computer.
I have been very impressed with this computer. A friend taught me a bit about Macs and helped convince me to buy it. Some features I really like are the built-in camera and microphone, the accelerometer, remote control, the magnetic screen closing as well as the magnetic power cord connection (very easy to use). The included software is excellent as well.
I was a little hesitant in buying a Mac because I like gaming. But I learned that the Mac comes with the ability to make a hard drive partition for Windows, and the drivers to make sure that Windows recognizes all the hardware and makes it function properly. A couple of games haven't worked properly, I don't know why, but overall I have been very satisfied with this. Mac computers offer you the best of both worlds now.
Another reason I like this computer, was made obvious at home. I am a college student, and at home my parents have a Windows desktop. On one occasion their printer stopped working

I find it curious, that tens of thousands of computers are sold every day in this country and yet so few of them are Macbooks. This notebook computer is my fourth computer, with my first being a Windows 95 machine when I was 6. It is my first Mac, and undoubtably the finest personal computer I have ever used. To think it comes in at a very affordable price point, comes with a 2.0 GHz, built in iSight, Bluetooth, high quality microphone, The Absolute Best Keyboard I HAVE EVER USED, and yes the caps were necessary. The keyboard is nothing short of phenomenal. If you are out there considering a computer and need a laptop, the Macbook in my opinion is the best choice on the market unless you need a little more power the pro may be better (but honestly not much distinguishes this 1099.99 dollar computer from a 2,000 dollar pro). I have read scores of reviews saying that Apple Quality control is declining, I am telling you here that Apple quality control is still the best in the industry and

I'm a longtime Mac user, and have owned Apple laptops going back to the Powerbook 170. Ever since the Powerbook G4 12" they have been used as desktop replacements (with large external monitors).
When Apple went Intel, I sat out the 1st generation of the Macbook Pro, then bought a 2nd gen 15" as a desktop replacement. A powerful machine, for sure, but I never was quite happy with it: subpar wireless reception, too large to use comfortably on an airplane, serious overheating (which I eventually "solved" by downclocking the CPU using www.coolbook.se), and poor battery autonomy (the machine would go through brand-new, fully charged batteries in under 2h each with normal use).
Then I had a minor accident (slipping on the ice in subzero Fahrenheit weather) and the laptop crash-landed. Despite being in a neoprene rubber protective case, it was damaged so badly that repairing would cost the same as a new Macbook.
So after some nagging, the insurance ponied up for a new Macbook rather than repairing

I've been using and repairing computers since my beltron (apple II). I've used a good mix of computers but tended to side with PC's to get the most compatibility from software. As a PC user my main purpose in a laptop is portability and ease of use. My last notebook was a 15.4 laptop which was formatted immediately to remove all the bloatware and took extensive time to configure properly to my liking.
My laptop now is the black MacBook, which didn't require much cleaning up after since the software that's included on it is actually useful. You'll have to decide between mac:office or iWork, but I chose iWork for simplicity's sake. If you don't feel like paying for either you can go open source with StarOffice, an OSX port from open office, which is a pretty decent alternative. This laptop wasn't meant for hardcore gaming or hardcore video editing or photoshopping as the lack of screen space and dedicated video board makes work a bit tedious. But this MacBook is still sufficient if

I adore my MacBook. Despite being a longtime Mac user, I almost did not buy a Mac when it came time to buying a laptop. I figured that I could buy a cheaper Windows machine that was just as powerful. Thank goodness I came to my senses! My husband had been through three laptops in the time that I had owned my Mac desktop, so that didn't portend well for those machines. And then both my daughter (a longtime Windows user who opted to go MacBook for college) and a few of my own college students convinced me to take a serious look at this computer. Wow.
Pros:
-- AirPort connectivity. On the road, while my husband is fiddling around on his Windows computer to connect to a new network, my daughter and I are already surfing the web. The MacBook also comes with Bluetooth capability.
-- OS X (now up to Leopard). Until you've used OS X, you have no idea what you've been missing. The users interface is so seamless that even the uninitiated can figure it out. You can create a Dock with

This is my first Apple computer. I have used laptops for years, for work I have a high end IBM, and I have also owned a Dell, Gateway, and HP laptop in the past. By far, this is the best computer I have ever used. The best way I can describe the laptop, and Mac OSX experience is SIMPLE. Everything about using it just makes sense. Whereas with Windows you have to know what you are doing, you have all these controls, and everything is hidden. With my Apple and Mac OS, it is all very intuitive. If you have never used a computer before, this is the one for you. Of course, we all know that it is plenty powerful for the most advanced users.
The construction of the laptop itself is great. The outside has picked up some very light scratches, nothing major. I use a wireless Mighty Mouse, and I really like the functionality of it, but the trackpad works very well. I never pack the mighty mouse if I am taking my macbook away from my desk on a trip or to a cafe, etc.
