When I removed the frame from the packing, the first thing I noticed was the bad wrinkle in the material that made up the mat around the display area. This indicated to me that it was made out of a very thin material rather than a quality board or metal mat. Then as I began to check out the functions, the high quality photos I had displayed at low quality. I believe the resolution was stated as being 1280 X 840, but that didn't appear to be so. After this experience, I understood why it was priced under $275.00. Overall, a disappointing product. But the return and refund service was excellent.

Acer V173BM 17" LCD Monitor

The screen is very nice and the price was great. The only problem I have with this product is that the stand does not permit the screen to tilt. That is a drawback as I must prop it up from the front in order to view the screen. ACER should change the monitor stand so that it can tilt and be seen from different angles.

The monitor thus far has proven to be a great product for the price. I purchased a ViewSonic monitor three years ago and was extremely pleased with the picture quality and product design. This is why I chose to purchase them for our computer lab. I am extremely satisified.

Acer V173BM 17" LCD Monitor

My old monitor started to develop dead pixels after 12 years, so I replaced it with this Acer. I had it out of the box and completely installed and running in just minutes. I chose the 17" because I have *lack of space* issues and it fits perfectly in spaces with no spaces. For low cost, this is a great monitor. I was a little concerned about picture quality, but those fears flew out the window.. The screen displays my astrological charts quite clear and defined, as that is the way I need to read them. If your budget can't take much more, but you need a monitor, I highly recommend this one !!

Acer V173BM 17" LCD Monitor

My review of this inexpensive high performance 17 inch monitor, the Acer V173B. The difference between this one and V173BM are the built-in stereo speakers. The one that I purchased has no built-in speakers. The model that has the built in speakers, as as well as the one with out speakers uses the same case. It's because of this, Acer was able to keep the price down for this model. This tend to make this unit a little bulkier than it should be at 2 5/8 inch thick for the monitor case. Also this unit only has VGA input instead of VGA and DVI. Having only VGA input is no handicap at this point for a 17 inch monitor since technology has advanced so much to a point where DVI is only necessary for a much larger higher definition model. The native resolution for this model is 1280 x 1024 pixels at 4:3 aspect Ratio. The six control buttons are located in a very conventional area of the monitor at the bottom front face right hand corner. The first button on the right is power on and off,

I am lucky with this unit having zero dead pixels. The problem with LCD monitors is that some of us has to live with a few dead pixels in some cases. They have improved quite a bit in the last few years in manufacturing LCD products with no defects right out of the factory. The manufacturers cannot afford to discard each and every one of those panels with a few dead pixels. So to keep costs down, they end up selling them to a few unlucky buyers. My last three purchase of monitors has zero dead pixels on them. The first time when I turned this unit on with my computer, I ran a dead pixel test using DPT program and the result was perfect. And like my previous unit, this unit runs extremely cool with very little heat output from the back. When set to the Graphics mode, the screen is extremely bright in fact too bright for me for browsing the Internet or for reading text. When set using the native resolution, the text is extremely clear and extremely uniform color wise with no color bleeding. The color uniformity is also extremely good throughout the screen with extremely wide viewing angle at about 160° both horizontal and vertical. This is in fact slightly better than my previous monitor even though that one claims to have similar specifications. For a brand-new monitor that sells for less than $100, this is quite outstanding in my opinion. So for those of you who don't mind a standard aspect ratio instead of a wide screen, this one would make an excellent choice.

I bought one of these mounts due to an unusual mounting situation and it worked so well I bought another on for a similar issue. The product is great! Very flexible (including the ability to adjust the distance from the mounting wall) and all of the adjustment screws are standarized and therefore use the same allen wrench (which is included!). Adjustments are nearly infinite and flexible. I highly recommend it.

Acer V173BM 17" LCD Monitor

I ordered this product on 8/04 and received it on 8/05. I'm totally satisfied and very impressed. The price is almost too good to be true but it is. The video and audio are excellent and I recommend this product for any in-home office. I work with Windows XP and all I had to do was plug in the new components and sit back and enjoy. I have more desk space than I had with my previous Sylvania 17". Lastly, the set up is easy and fast. Even the elderly or those with back problems will be pleased.

I needed a flat screen monitor (space considerations) for my desktop computer which I use for pretty basic computer applications on what many would consider somewhat intermittent timeframe (I don't turn it on every day!). The price was reasonable, the size workable in my desk space, and the set up simple. The biggest drawback I ran into is the lack of flexibility in positioning. The tilt was very stiff at first and is quite limited. Also, you have to turn the base in order to get left/right adjustments. I still haven't found a really good configuration on my desk space and I wonder how well it would work for somebody significantly taller than I. Still, it does what I really need for a reasonable price and I am happy with it.

Can't be beat at this price. Contrast on wall paper could be better (more contrast) and controls for moving and expanding the display not so convenient (tiny black buttons with black labels?) Still, quite functional and excellent for the money.

Just got this mount a few weeks ago. Went up real easy. Put my 32" Samsung TV on a thick plaster wall using three 1/4" toggle bolts. Holds great and arm easily moves. Would not suggest this mounting method with any drywall. Looks good too in my smaller bedroom on the opposite wall and above the bed/near the ceiling. Only change I would make is for the manufacturer to supply a template that shows the oval cover outline and holes where to drill so I could precisely postion the TV. Made my own but having a pre-made one would have saved a few minutes. You need the optional plate for a the 32" Samsung.

Great Monitor, Lousy Speakers

I just took delivery yesterday on this monitor (Acer V173BM 17" LCD Monitor) and paid the extra $15 to get the model with the speakers, thinking to reduce the clutter on my desktop. Wrong! The speakers are tinny sounding and definitely inferior. Nice monitor, though. I was replacing an old CRT, so the difference was amazing. Good resolution, nice crisp graphics and bright display were all features that impressed me right out of the box. The speakers, not so much. I now have my old Dell speakers hooked back up to the PC and have disabled the monitor's speakers. If the cost and hassle of returning this monitor for the one w/o speakers had not exceeded the $15 extra I paid, I'd switch. I'm rating it four stars instead of five, only because of the crappy speakers.

The speakers aren't that great I agree but they work for our enviroment. We only needed a small output and not some building shaking noise. We have to remember that this is a monitor with speakers, not speakers with a monitor. If you think you could have an issue with the speakers for your intese gaming needs then please buy a differant set of speakers. Monitor has a great picture. However, write-up specified speakers. I assumed since it was pural, it was stereo. Speaker quality is terrible. I got this product because of the speakers. Now I will have to buy another set.

I bought this Acer 17" monitor to replace my 6 year old 15" HP monitor that died last week. I didn't want to spend a lot but was afraid a low cost monitor would not be sturdy or look very good.
