I have had this laptop for a few days now and have never been so impressed with a new computer. I sold my full sized laptop to buy this one and this one is faster, has a bigger hard dive and is so much more convenient to carry around. That is not even mentioning the incredible battery life. Some people have complained about the fan noise I don't know if it is just that mine is a newer (maybe already having a bios update installed)but mine is whisper quite. If you are considering a new netbook or laptop I don't think you will be disappointed with this one. My only caution is don't get this if you want a gaming PC or want to use other extremely recourse heavy software. Other than those applications this computer is incredibly fast especially for $400 and starts in under a minute.

I got this mini laptop 2 weeks ago, and it turns out to be the perfect tool for mobility. I have installed all the software that i use in my old vaio laptop, and for my surprise !!, everything is ok. Including VPN software.
pros
Lightweight (2.x lbs), large space HD (160 GB, but only 144 GB for aplications), enough RAM for Win XP (1GB), Built-in camera, Mic, Wi-Fi, long duration battery (more than 5 hours), and finally, the stylish design is a plus
Cons
Just one. The unit become heated around the touchpad, specially when its running for a long period of time using wi-fi. In this case i recommend to use a usb mouse.
I'm completely impressed with all the features vrs price. I strongly recommend it.

The computer has a great screen, incredible view angles and a very comfy design. Some things to note is that the camera is actually 0.3mp VGA, the laptops has 2 SD card slots, one for extra storage on a "static basis" and a multi card reader that allows MS, SD cards and others i believe. The storage expansion allows to have the SD at all times and doesn't make it stick out.
The mouse pad buttons aren't a problem at all once u realize that you can use your index fingers or thumbs to press the buttons while you scroll. It also comes with a very handy scrolling option that allows the use of borders to scroll up and down as well as horizontally. You can also program the corners to have sppecal features like go back on a web page or forward. A very handy click and drag until you click again feature helps a lot when dragging items with the mouse pad.
This Winodws Xp version came with trail versions of macaffe, office 2007 and other software that i don't recommend. The 160gb is more than enough

My FeedBack: great unit, Acer has hit a homerun with this machine.
AsusTek proved there was a huge netBook market when they debut their eePC on '07. Acer built on this and produced a fine gem. This NetBool craze started with Nicholas Negroponte at teh MIT Media Lab. Google search for more info if interested......
Get one, especially if you travel. Buy a LogiTech Laser mouse, why? The dongle is the smallest on the market and you can just keep it installed.
You can read all the pluses elsewhere, what is this machine's shortcomings?
The trackpad...weird buttons to left and right. Okay for an emergency. Bypass it all with a mouse.
Nice keyboard, took about 20 minutes to adjust.
A dream to use....be careful not to hit the WiFi on and off button like I did! It resembles a lid latch at leading edge.
Cute factor: yes, the latest and greatest, but this becomes a drag.
I just wanna type and not be bugged by a bunch of questions. Keep this in mind.
High wow factor now. The best point to bring

If you frequently use your notebook computer while in a recumbent posture (ie. in bed), it doesn't take long to come to the realization that what had seemed like a lightweight companion gets hot and heavy in a hurry. Apart from adapting a more sensible (and healthy) posture, I thought my options would be limited. A MacAir was one possibility, but taking on a load in consumer debt in exchange for getting another load off my chest didn't seem to make sense. Of course, there's the iPod Touch and no end of "smart phones" with Lilliputian-sized keyboards and full computer capabilities for the Munchin-fingered. For the average adult, however, these are little more than gadgets, limited to elemental text messaging and chatroom prose, and potentially irritating to deal with.
In such a situation, this Acer Aspire One excels. It quickly "saw" my wireless connection (Airport Extreme), and within five minutes of opening the box I was up and running, typing and editing lengthy documents using

TWO FAILED ACER LAPTOPS. I hesitate to leave feedback like this, but I honestly think others should be aware of the quality issues I have experienced with Acer. It's not only very irritating to receive defective merchandise, but a real hassle to return it, or try to get credit.
Last fall I purchased an Acer laptop, the hard drive failed within a few weeks, I spent half a day repacking it, contacting Acer, searching for and making copies of the original receipts, and bringing it into the nearest FedEx shop to return it to Acer repair.
On October 28th of this year (2008) I purchased an Acer Aspire 1, 6 cell battery, 160 gb HD and 8.9 inch screen mini-notebook computer, it arrived within 48 hours, a very impressive ship time. I wish I could provide a review of how it worked, but it never booted up. As before, I spent an hour trying to contact Acer for service, in the process being put on hold three times. When they agreed to take it back, only for repair, they also tried to get me

I love this laptop because size and funtionality for use travelling, bed and by the pool , after using it for a week the cooling fan started to became nosier, I read that it has 3 speed and the faster one make a big noise (I'm not sure if my unit fan is defective, sound like a non ball bearing fan is installed on this laptop )what I did was install a fan utility that keep the fan working at its minimun speed and cpu temp stays 49-51 oC so I was able to reduce the noise ,the second issues I was having was the ateros wireless adapter disappering from windows from time to time,I read a lot of forum people having this issues,I tried several driver and even replace my wireless router and still having wireless disconnection problems ,since I use an N router I just bought the netgear N USB wireless adapter and disabled the onboard atheros G so I'm surfing at 300Mps with my Linksys 160N ,other than these 2 issues I'm happy with this mini laptop ,my friend has the Asus Eee 1000H but is a little bigger

I am strictly an Apple guy. But I am also a BlackBerry enthusiast who has found Apple's Boot Camp combined with Parallels to be very handy and sometimes fun to use just for the experience of playing in a Windows environment.
Recent events require that I do a good deal of flying, and as much as I love my 15" MacBook Pro, it weighs too much when schlepping from one end of a terminal to the other. Recently, I started reading about the crop of new Mini Notebooks. Sadly, Apple continues to ignore this segment of the market, so, after considerable research I decided to go with the Acer Aspire One running Windows XP and utilizing Acer's six cell battery.
This little notebook is the real deal. Obviously, there are going to be some sacrifices required to create a unit that is both small and affordable. For me the lower processor speed is the most noticeable loss, but I can live with it. The Acer does a fine job of playing streaming videos, which is about the greatest speed demand I will ever

Great hard drive! Easy to carry around as it's sleek and light weight. It's very fast & it doesn't use external power. I use it to do full backups of my laptop. LOVE the pink, which is the bonus plan!

Just received my Acer Aspire One 160gb and am in love..I simply slipped it in my purse and no one is the wiser that I have a laptop. The main reason I bought this was to go to Paris and be able to go on-line. I originally ordered the 120gb after returning the 8gb. The 120 was out of stock for over one month, then I came over here and someone mentioned that there was a 160gb to be issured, so I cancelled the 120 and now I have this great little 160gb Acer. I'm still getting used to the slightly smaller keyboard. It's a little tight right now. I have to press down hard but hopefully, it will loosen up after use.
I need a little help with getting on-line. The manual isn't very clear and I'm having a little trouble here at home going on-line. Any help will be gratfully appreciated...
I showed my co-workers and almost everyone one of them wanted one!! They all said how 'cool' it was. The price I paid was $469. A little more than the prices now but didn't want to wait any longer. I'm in love.

Good looking, agree with other reviews EXCEPT after just 2 months of light use the corner trim has totally worn off (don't know how since this area doesn't get any extra pressure or wear - must just have been a defective piece of trim).Called Belkin - and after way too long in voice mail h*** they said I could exchange it under warranty BUT I'd have to pay cost of shipping one way - with time to mail it and cost of postage it will cost more than buying another one !!!! So I like it but will have to buy another to have an intact product - probably will try a different manufacturer this time.

I actually like it a lot, but through no fault of the PC, I feel it is just a biiit too small. i understand that's the point, but i think a lot of people would be well advised to try it out at a store first. The screen really is very small, and if i had to do it again, i would have considered the 10" netbooks more seriously.. Other than the size, it runs very smoothly, the keyboard is great, and i have no problems with the processor speed.
Just to give you an idea how small the screen is; if you watch a youtube video, the video takes up almost all of the screen's vertical space. Max resolution is 1024x768.
Other miscellaneous comments: I like the built-in speakers/mike/webcam but i wish it had exterior volume control. 6 cell battery sticks out from the back of the laptop, but it looks fine anyway. Tho it runs on Windows XP, there is no recovery media at all.. Comes with a trial of McAfee and MS Office 2007. Touchpad is pretty responsive, but the buttons are terrible - too flat and too

I received my new Acer Aspire One Onyx Black from Amazon/ANTOnline today. This thing is sweeeet. Slim, compact, fits easily in my backpack (smaller than average textbook). Boots up quickly, windows XP runs smoothly. Installed Office 2007 without any issues. WiFi connected to my network quickly, recognized my network printers and drives without any issues. 6 cell battery sticks out a little at the back but matches well with the body. The display rests on the extention of the 6 cell battery and prevents it to fall back. Keyboard and the touchpad is going to require a little getting used to. Excellent value for the price. Well done acer for raising the Bar of netbooks for others not only in quality but also on the price. Other netbooks in the market range from $500 (asus) to $1800 (apple, HP). Most of the software installed are trial versions. I uninstalled almost everything, including google desktop and toolbar. Mcafee comes free for a while but removed that too and installed Norton

(This review is for the 6-cell onyx/black version.) As is the case with most who purchase this system, I'm not interested in doing anything requiring a lot of raw power: I bought it because its portability means I can easily cart it to class or the library. It's smaller - though slightly more heavy - than my average textbook, so I simply throw it in my bag and bring it along.
The battery life on the 6-cell is exceptional, making it ideal for students or travelers who don't have ready-made access to outlets. This is the obvious selling point of the model over its predecessor 3-cell sister (which my father owns), so I'd recommend that the buyer consider whether or not the extra battery life is needed.
I'm truly impressed with how the system performs. I expected a lot of down time booting and executing programs, but this hasn't been my experience. After tweaking MSCONFIG's startup options, I'm ready to go in under a minute. For reduction in time here, I'd also recommend scrapping the preinstalled

I've spent 30 some years traveling for a living and also just for fun! Always took a laptop along for biz, and occasionally took a small Winbook on personal trips. I found the Acer Aspire One while looking for something else. My unit has the 3 cell battery which will only go approx 2 hours at best. But for travel it's great! It's light, sturdy and the XP software is faster than Vista. Startup time is just about a minute! I can't say enough good things about this unit. Be prepared to buy a portable cd/dvd for down loadning movies, programs etc... I recently found a very compact Sony drive for $100. In this case my total expenditure was $450 for both.
If your looking for a unit to take along on trips - this is it! No need to spend $800 to $1000 for HP or others - this one fills the bill!

This is a nice starter computer, but beware, Dell screens are so dim they cannot be read easily in bright light environments. If you want to sit outside and read your e-mail, DO NOT BUY a Dell laptop. I wish I had known this before I bought the Dell XPS 1330, and I would have bought a Sony instead.

I purchased a Dell Inspiron 1720, refurbished, and it has been nothing but trouble since the box was opened. During the "Computer Set-Up" Vista crashed & rebooted the machine. It kept randomly rebooting, without any rhyme or reason: While I was looking at the installed programs; When I tried some of the pre-packaged games (solitaire); When I was online using Windows Explorer; When I was using my Firefox browser. It would restart with multiple programs or a single program running.
The obvious fix was to upgrade to Windows XP. Except that this machine is engineered so that it is not backwards compatible with any OS prior to Vista.
It was even replaced with another refurbished machine which crashed just as frequently and inexplicably.
Then they replaced some of the hardware (CPU & Hard drive) and returned it without reinstalling the operating system or any software. After I did that the computer continued to randomly reboot. Now they want to return to the beginning and make me do their

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!"
PLUS, IT IS SO STYLISH AND CUTE (Pink).
UNLIKE THE TYPE OF iPod COVERS THAT FLIP UP and get in the way of the speaker cord, THIS ONE OPENS HORIZONTALLY. WHICH, IS SOOO VERY CONVENIENT!!!
I'D RECOMMEND BUYING IT, ESPECIALLY FOR THE PRICE!

There's a poster in our school's "College and Career Center" that reads: "College is not a prize to be won, but a match to be made." I suppose the same goes for computing. The best laptop is not a super-expensive toy to feature, but--again--a match between the user and the product. In this case, the M1330 fit almost perfectly.
When I began my quest for a laptop, I wasn't in the market for some bank-busting dream system that ran at twenty petaflops a second. What I needed was a reasonably sized, reasonably priced machine that could still beat out my old computer: a Dell Dimension 3000 that had begun to show signs of age. After a day or two of searching, I chose this little computer called the Dell M1330: a fast, adjustable machine that featured everything I needed for a decent price.
I'm happy to report that this machine surpassed all of my expectations.
Where I do I start? The cosmetics side, perhaps. I ordered this Dell with a $150 LED screen; it bumped up the price tag, but for a good
