Iomega eGo 160GB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive - Pink - 33984-160GB EGO PORTABLE HARD DRIVE EXT USB 2.0 FLAMINGO PINK
Great hard drive! Easy to carry around as it's sleek and light weight. It's very fast & it doesn't use external power. I use it to do full backups of my laptop. LOVE the pink, which is the bonus plan!

Western Digital My Passport Essential WDMEP1600 Hard Drive-160GB MY PASSPORT ESSENTIAL 2.5 5400 RPM 22PIN 8MB 2.5IN
I recently bought the 160GB drive and I was disappointed that the instructions in the box were almost not there. It came with a sync software but there was no details on how to use it and when to use it, etc. The product was pretty handy and can fit in a Jeans pocket. It is not very loud. It feels a little flimsy in the hand. For the price, I think it was a good purchase.

Seagate FreeAgent Go 160GB External USB 2.0 Hard Drive
1) Do not use the software provided with this drive. Either get software somewhere else, or just format it and copy/paste your files to the drive for backup.

2) Use BOTH usb plugins... using just one can ruin your drive! And it's better if you first plug them both into your computer, then plugin the drive. Likewise, unplug the drive first when you're done.

3) Use "Safely remove hardware" in the tray before unplugging the drive. (Or "unmount" for Linux users.) Or shut down the computer before unplugging.

4) Don't drop it. Don't bang it around. Especially don't lift or bump it while it's plugged in! This could damage the drive or your data.

So far, this drive has functioned perfectly fine for me. (I've had it for 3 months.) I just formated it to FAT32 and use it to backup files on Windows and Linux via Copy/Paste. I gave this 4 stars because the software it comes with is junk. But I don't use it anyway. Treat this drive well, and I think you'll be happy.

Western Digital Scorpio 160GB Laptop Hard Drive - WD1600BEVSRTL-SATA 5400 RPM 2.5IN NOTEBOOK 2.5
I bought this HDD to upgrade my PS3. The drive came in good condition, installed easily and works great. Great price as well, since it only cost $60 to double my Hard Drive capacity. This is a great choice for those gamers out there looking to upgrade their PS3 HDD inexpensively.

LaCie Little Disk Hard Drive-250GB LITTLE DISK USB 2.0 EXT FW400+ 5400 RPM 8MB
Seeing as how all the reviews prior to mine are 4 and 5 stars, I must have had bad luck with the particular Little Disk that I bought less than a week ago.

I was very excited because of how small and beautiful it is. Everything transferred from my other external hard drive with no problem, the FireWire made it super fast, so far so good.

Then, the disk lost its connection with my Macbook because the FireWire cord is so short and the disk itself is so small; it slipped out of my hands by accident. I got the "device removal warning" and grimaced, but figured I would be okay. Nope. All of my LaCie data was corrupt and I had to repair the disk, erase everything, and re-transfer from my older external. From then, everything started working again.

Then two nights ago, I connected my year-old iPod to "erase and sync" with my new library (my Macbook is new too). After a few seconds, I got an error message saying that my iPod "could not be read from or written to." Since the "erase" had been

BlackArmor 160GB USB 2.0 Hardware-based Full-disc Encryption Technology (Windows Only)
Not only does this device perform well, it looks really great!! I've bought several 2.5 portable HDs in my time and all of them were very boring looking. With the hardware-based full-disc encryption technology if an invalid password is keyed, it prohibits access to your data. Backup software that it comes with can automatically back up your personal data that are for your eyes only. And if you were to lose it, you have peace of mind that no one else would be able to access your sensitive data.

Seagate FreeAgent Go 160GB External USB 2.0 Hard Drive
This little external is fantastic. There are no batteries required, unlike some of the larger models from seagate. The size of the thing is very convenient for taking it to and from college; it's about the size of a wallet. The program used for managing your files on the external is very simplistic and non arduous compared to some of the other external drive software that makes you load the friken program for 5 hours before you can transfer anything - this program is just drag and drop or cut and paste. Lastly, the storage capacity on this external is very sensible, you really don't need any more space than roughly 150 MB of storage unless your an animator or something like that.

Iomega 160GB USB 2.0 / FireWire External Hard Drive - 33749-160GB PORTABLE HARD DRIVE EXT USB 2.0 FIREWIRE
This is a durable external hard drive! I use it with a macbook running Tiger and I've had no problems...while other ehd's I've used with this comp have bit the dust. There's no frills with this ehd, but it's dependable and it just works.

Seagate FreeAgent Go 160GB External USB 2.0 Hard Drive
First of all this is a great hard disk, but why would anyone want to spend $79 on a 160 gb hard disk when you can get a 250 gb hard disk for $96 (atleast as of July'08) - so look for a bigger drive if you can.

Note: If you want to skip the long review, you can go to the last paragraph of this review where I have some useful tips on how best to use your portable drive and how to keep ideal data backup.

It is a given fact that any portable drive you buy in the market today is going to perform good in the short term - maybe 3 months, 6 months or even a year.

But when you are buying a portable drive - you have to look beyond 3-5 years because thats how long you are probably going to keep your drive. You have to look at the reliability of the drive - to not lose any data because of hard disk failures.

I have used various drives - Seagate, Western Digital, Hitachi, Samsung .., but I can vouch for the fact that Seagate is the numero uno when it comes to drive reliability. I have had many

Iomega 33914 eGo Portable 160GB Hard Drive - Silver - Windows Macintosh
After reading all the comments today I got the 160gb ego Portable drive
and want to contribute my experience so others may be benefited like i was. Since its arrival I have spent about 4 hours on it and here is my review.

The Package - The pkg comes with just the drive, Y cable and a small booklet which is really insufficient. But it points you to the the iomega website where you can download the Detailed User manual and Guide. All the website photographs show a key next to the drive but neither is there any key in the package nor any mention of security key anywhere. Maybe I am missing something if anyone knows the significance of the key in the photos please post.

Warranty - It is supposed to have 1 year Iomega warranty. On the website under Support I entered the serial number found at the back of the drive. It came back saying this is Not under warranty, but not to be alarmed and I need to fax/scan the amazon invoice to them and then they will review. I have now scanned the invoice

Western Digital Scorpio 160GB Laptop Hard Drive - WD1600BEVSRTL-SATA 5400 RPM 2.5IN NOTEBOOK 2.5
I bought this drive about 3 weeks ago, and haven't had one problem yet. I got it for my PS3, and it took about 20 minutes to swap out the old one and put this one in. the only 'hard' part was getting the screws that hold the drive in the tray into this new drive...didn't seem like they were 100% aligned; nevertheless it was no big deal. After formatting the new drive, it came up to about 149gb, which isn't bad.

I highly recommend getting this .

LaCie Little Disk Hard Drive-250GB LITTLE DISK USB 2.0 EXT FW400+ 5400 RPM 8MB
After doing a little research, I settled on the Lacie Little Disk because I wanted a drive with Firewire for my MacBook. I also own a LaCie 80GB mobile external hard drive designed by FA Porsche which has given me years of trouble free use but the capacity is on the low side by today's standards.

Portable hard drives nowadays are pretty generic when it comes to performance and capacity so I find the distinguishing features are the type of connectivity offered and product design. It's amazing how few Mac friendly portable hard drives there are in the market and even the ones which say they are for Mac have drawbacks. One case in point is Western Digital's My Passport Studio portable drive - it needs to be connected via a supplied hybrid Firewire/ USB cable. Lose it and you're stuffed. Sure you can use USB only portable drives but performance is not as good as Firewire.

The LaCie comes out on top here thanks to an integrated USB cable and not one but two Firewire ports. The second

LaCie Little Disk Hard Drive-250GB LITTLE DISK USB 2.0 EXT FW400+ 5400 RPM 8MB
As I got more and more sweaty-palmed as my laptop drive filled up, I looked for a fast, compact external drive which would travel well. The Little Disk 250GB is a classy little unit with a pull-out USB connector (but I tend to use the Firewire connection more frequently.) A beautifully designed drive, it more than doubles my laptop's capacity.

Iomega 160GB USB 2.0 / FireWire External Hard Drive - 33749-160GB PORTABLE HARD DRIVE EXT USB 2.0 FIREWIRE
DOA
I read a lot of good reviews for this hard drive, so I decided to give it a try. Maybe it's because I have a Mac, I don't know, but my drive didn't work for me at all. I looked under system profiler to see if my MacBook Pro recognized it at all; it showed up as a firewire device but that was it. I even tried to see if my Windows XP virtual machine would recognize it; it didn't. I got an error message. I'd also like to mention I tried both the firewire and USB cables that came with the drive; neither worked. I ended up getting an RMA from Amazon the day after I received it.

Maxtor STM901603OTA3E1-RK OneTouch 4 Mini 160GB HD
If you purchased this drive and software (as I did) to restore after system crashes you may be in for a rude surprise - the included Safetydrill software does not (as claimed) delete older versions of backups as required to make space for newer ones, instead it MOVES them to an (undocumented) history folder on the same drive and new backups fail for lack of space... with the failure producing only an inconspicuous error message that could be easily overlooked by unsophisticated users.

At first I found it unbelievable that automatic backup space management was unavailable in Saftydrill, but this was confirmed by Seagate/Maxtor Tech support, making this the least capable backup "solution" I've encountered in the last decade.

So... it you buy this for image-type backups an intend to use the included software be aware after the first few uses it will be *your* responsibility to manage your backup space by manually deleting older backups as required!

Toshiba 160GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive
This Toshiba hard drive lives up to the quality image of Toshiba, plus the included NTI file backup program will not only back up my entire cpu harddrive if I choose, but it also saves individual files or folders, which is how I use it every day. I really like the "backup files as changes are made" feature, and after I designate the files and folders that I want to backup, the process is automatic and effortless. Set and forget, so to speak.

Iomega 160GB USB 2.0 / FireWire External Hard Drive - 33749-160GB PORTABLE HARD DRIVE EXT USB 2.0 FIREWIRE
The product has been 100% satisfactory; it came speedily and worked like a charm. Nice and small, didn't overheat, easily powered via USB. Setup was really simple. Has worked well with my MacBook and Leopard so far.

I recommend contacting the seller w/Qs re this product; it certainly helped me out. I don't have much to say, but I highly recommend it.

LaCie Little Disk 160GB External Hard Drive - 301280-160GB LITTLE DISK USB 2.0 EXT FW400+ 5400 RPM 8MB
I wanted a portable bootable external HD without any external power source (not even USB) for my Powerbook G4 aluminum (Tiger) and this LaCie Little Disk 160GB FireWire 400 works perfectly.

160GB HI-SPEED USB2.0 RUGGED HARD DISK
I wanted a ruggedised travelling drive; this was both reasonably priced and small and promises to be a good device to take on trips abroad. its fast (USB2) and so far has worked without glitches. I like the alloy case and the rubberised surround (more dress than protection, I would expect).
When I first go it, PartitionMagic showed up a small formatting error, but it fixed it, and i have had no problems in use. This seems to be a Toshiba manufactured item. I like it.
