I'm a PC/Mac Technician/Administrator by trade. So I have plenty or experience with Windows and Macs. I've used PCs since there were PCs and I always say I'll use the best tool for the job, and time after time the best tool is a Mac. Whether you're an aspiring programmer, designer, artist, musician or simply just want to surf the web, view e-mail, IM friends or and get your job done easily, a Mac will suit your needs.
I bought this model refurbished off the Apple Store. Anything I say about the computer's Operating System (OS X) usually applies equally to other Macintosh models.
First the Hardware:
For a consumer machine it's surprisingly solid and the weight feels good. The built in camera (standard on Mac laptops and iMacs) is pretty decent as far as web cams go. After months of heavy use the hinges are still snug and the screen is just as bright. 2GB will take care of most people's needs.
Also, and this is very important, since this is an Intel based machine you can install windows

I bought the Sony VAIO VGN-SR140E/B 13.3 inch notebook after 4 years with my old Acer laptop. The Acer was bulky and ran pretty hot, so this time I decided to get myself something more compact, since I want to be able to comfortably hold it on my lap. I have to say that I'm very pleased with this notebook.
This VAIO is very small and light. It weighs something like 4 lbs. Besides being compact and light, I also like the fact that it doesn't run hot. It stays cool pretty much all the time. The fans are very quiet and barely noticable, even when they spool up (which happens once every two days, if that). The design of the notebook is very nice. I wish it had more USB slots, but there's always some trade offs with a compact notebook. The biggest drawback is that the screen is on the small size. If you have bad vision you'll have a hard time with the screen resolution. Unfortunately the screen resolution can only be adjusted in such a way that it looks like absolute crap if it's anything

I bought this laptop for college, and it's the best laptop i have used so far!
First off, I have to say that this laptop runs VERY cool and quiet, even when gaming. My laptop temperature never went over 60C even when i was gaming, and I can barely hear the fan even when the laptop is under stress.
This laptop is FAST, It loads programs super fast, and it can multitask very well, I usually have more than 10 programs opened at the same time (firefox, aim, msn, yim, skype, itunes, outlook, photoshop cs3, etc), and this laptop has had no problems handling that.
This is laptop also gives you easy access to the RAM and the Harddrive, so it would be really easy if you want to upgrade the RAM or the harddrive(or a SSD) later on.
The screen is very bright and vibrant! I usually have to turn the brightness down a bit, because it hurts my eyes at full brightness.
The keyboard is very unique and easy to type on, and the laptop has a large and responsive trackpad, a fingerprint reader, you can use the

I bought this laptop for replacement of my broken Dell Inspiron 700M. I really like this laptop so far.
This laptop is nicely constructed and it is lighter than my Dell. This laptop is mostly made up of plastic and only the keyboard area are metallic. I am not sure what kind of metal did Sony used, maybe magnesium alloy as what they have claimed on their advertisement. The keyboard is really nice, it doesn't flex like many other laptops and it is very quite.
The machine remains very cool even thought you have your setting on maximum performance. It might generate little bit of heat on palm rest area, but it won't bothers you like my Dell. The fan is always on, however it doesn't make a lot of noise.
The screen on this laptop is best I have seen so far. It is very bright and sharp. You can adjust the resolution if you think 1280X800 pixels are too small for you. there are 4 different of resolution you can change to.

I was looking for a compact notebook to replace my old Sony Vaio and, after much research, decided on this laptop. I have not been disappointed, and am in fact very pleased with it.
The pros: it is fast, well designed, easy to use, and fairly compact. It's light too - not quite as light as the Sony 13 inchers - but for me that did not justify the insane increase in price for the Sonys. Also i like how it runs all my old XP programs without a hitch. It feels solid and well built, and the screen is nice and bright.
The cons: BEWARE! Amazon got the photo for this product wrong - it DOES NOT come with a fingerprint reader! If you are interested in that, there are other models in the u405 series that have it. Another thing that is not that great is the battery life. This model has the lower level battery, and probably won't last more than a couple of hours. Again, other models of the same series do have the bigger battery. So, if that's important to you, I would recommend going with

I purchased this laptop a month ago and I am very satisfied. It is thin and very light, and also it is stylish! Its size is perfect because it is small enough to take it with you everywhere and also you can work accurately on it (you can read the letters because their size is not too small). I highly recommend toshiba, this brand is forever, I changed my old toshiba because I got bored with it, but it still works perfect.

I have been a mac laptop user for years and year, most recently with a Macbook Pro. In fact, I had switched to the macbook pro as my all-in-one computer for several years for work, home, and travel.
Boy, was that a mistake, and one that the Macbook Air has readily filled -- I now own an iMac at home, and use the Macbook AIr for travel and work. I just love it. It is so small and light, it makes no noticable difference in my carryon or work messenger bag. Even after many months of use, it still has the "wow" factor when people see it, something us Apple geeks truly thrive on...and it has all the features i need on the road.
I did break down and buy the external superdrive, because it is just so much faster than using the Remote Disk feature on the MBA. In addition, I found that I use the ethernet USB adapter more ofter than not, since it is suprising how many hotels in the US and Europe are NOT wireless -- order one with your MBA and spare the hassle. I think Cupertino must run on a different

I have been the informal tech guy for two Airs. One for 8 months, one for 6 months. I have also traveled with them. They are generally wonderful, especially if the weight is a big factor. All other laptops seem heavy and inelegant. But ...
(1) If you ever want to use an ethernet connection to the internet (as opposed to wireless), then you have to bring the dongle that converts the one USB port to ethernet. For example, to check your office email at a Kinko's. Definitely buy it. You will want to travel with this and an ethernet cable, in case your hotel room has an ethernet connection and no (or poor) wireless reception.
(2) To do a quick full restore from Time Machine, you need BOTH an OSX disc (either Disc 1 that comes with the Air or an off-the-shelf OSX disc) and the back-up hard drive. But you only have one USB port and no firewire ports. The SuperDrive will not share that port on a USB hub (nor will it work on any computer but an Air). It is easy to back up with Time Machine

I purchased this computer to replace my 3-year-old HP laptop, which was reliable but heavy and running out of hard drive space. I seriously considered a MacBook because I wanted a computer that was easily portable, and I was somewhat skeptical about Vista, but this turned out to be a great choice. This Toshiba is even lighter than a Macbook and has a much larger hard drive and more RAM, all for a much better price. So far I haven't had any complaints with Vista, though that may change when I go back to school and need to use it to write papers, etc. The Toshiba has an overall nice look and feel--keyboard and touchpad are very comfortable to use and don't feel cramped despite the small size of the computer. If you're a PC user considering the jump to Mac, take a good look at this computer first.

The MacBook is a little more expensive than similarly-configured Windows laptops. However, the tangible and intangible benefits that come with the MacBook make it worth the extra money.
The MacBook is perfectly sized for an all-purpose machine. The old 12.1" iBooks were great, but their screens were just a little too small. The MacBook's 13.1" has adequately high resolution and screen real estate for most tasks outside of publishing and heavy-duty Photoshopping or web design, and the compromise size keeps the MacBook's size below most of the 15.4" systems common in the Windows world. It's just small and light enough to be easily toted around, and just big enough for useful work.
One of the MacBook's big selling points (and one worth the Apple premium) is the fact that you're not forced to use Vista. Mac OS X "Leopard" is a far more polished and user-friendly operating system, and it's the seamless integration of OS and hardware that makes the MacBook such a joy to use. Everything

I placed an order for this laptop on Aug 16, 2008. Promised to deliver 18th and then 22nd but actually the product is out of stock (per CSR comment). I finally bought this from CC where it is much cheaper (incl taxes). If you can get the product from Amazon right in time at a lower price than others, it may be a worth. This review is not for the product but for Amazon. I am going to leave a detailed product review in the store which offered me great price and wonderful service.

I placed an order on August 12th. No update until August 19th, and suddenly I received an email saying that they do not have it in stock and thus they cannot make delivery in line with the estimated schedule. It's cheaper than other stores (like circuitcity) but don't but from Amazon right now. I really like the laptop and it's a pity; I will write a serious review once I get one (maybe not from Amazon). I am sure I will like the laptop. One problem with the previous version of U405 (using T series processor) is the heat; the laptop seems to get a bit hot. But I am expecting that this P-series processor exhausts less heat as the processor uses less power. I also expect the battery life to be longer because of the same reason. I will come back to the full review once I get my hands on it. Hopefully Amazon will handle my order MUCH better next time :(

Alright, so I bought this laptop for college. I wanted something small, lightweight and powerful, but also good-looking. I though about the 14.1 inch Sony Vaio's and was extremely close to buying one when I found out about this PC.
I've had it for about a week now, and if I remember, I'll update the review as time goes by.
The laptop looks amazing, it has this shiny finish that's reflective, and i just love the feel of it, I would recommend heading over to your local PC/electronics store to see it in person, because that's how I fell in love.
I'm not going list all the specs, because you can find most of them on this page, I'll list some cool features I liked though:
The PC comes with Ulead DVD factory for Toshiba, which I love because i make mini movies, and the title menu's you can make on it are amazing. The laptop also has a flashlabel drive, so i can print awesome labels on my DVD's, a great feature if u use that stuff.
It has a built in camera/mic which is cool. It also comes

I was a Windows user for 15 years. Although interested in a Mac, compatibility issues with my office Windows network made me hesitate. I'm now retired and since my ThinkPad was getting on (and acting up), I decided to go with the MacBook.
I was shocked at the marked superiority of the Mac right out of the box. I decided to wait to write a review until I found some flaws. After all, nothing is perfect. Well, I may find some eventually, but during the month I waited I became even more confirmed in my first impression. By "superior" I mean in all material respects--operating system, hardware and software. I realize some IT types, gamers and others may see some advantages to Windows, but I see none for a user like me (primarily, internet, email, iTunes, word processing and picture management). It was a revelation to find a computer so stable and user friendly. Other adjectives that come to mind: Solid, Fast, Fun, Snappy, Sleek, even Graceful. From frustration to the sublime.

I am using this as a replacement for my iMac which I moved to the office. This computer is the best laptop I have ever owned (the first Mac), and I am in love with the operating system. I dont have to worry about viruses or other nonsense like that like I use to have to deal with all the time with my old Dell laptop. Plus its so light I can take it anywhere!
The only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't have a firewire port. However, all in all I am very happy and could not have imagined a more perfect computer.

This is probably the best laptop I ever bought. I had 2 sony vaio's before and used different types of windows laptops from work. By far, this is the best user experience I've had using a laptop, with great aesthetics. The boot up time is incredibly fast, applications(itunes, safari, iphoto, canon software etc) load super fast, compared to windows. Apple makes home computing incredibly easy with Leopard and macbook.
Like some of the other customers, I debated whether to buy a macbook or macbook pro, but in the end I couldn't justify the added cost just for larger display and dedicated graphics card. This works just fine, I use aperture with this and it works really well

I knew that this was going to be a great purchase, and when it came, I was very pleased with it. Not only does it look great, but it runs very nice. The battery life is fantastic, and the OS is really great. Much more efficient than windows. It's very fast. A good deal faster than my windows desktop. I definitely recommend this for anyone looking for a good laptop.

This was my second Mac. It replaced a PowerBook G4 that had been in use for nearly six years. I am a school teacher and I carry my laptop to school and home every day. The one regret I had about my 15" PowerBook was that is was quite large and heavy. Travel on planes and buses was a pain and required a decent sized backpack or other bag.
There are limits with the MacBook in terms of graphic abilities. I'm told they will not do video editing and gaming as well as the MacBook Pro. I don't need these capabilities. I use my laptop for word processing, presentations, internet utilities and email, personal finance, and managing my photos and iTunes library. The MacBook does these handily.
I have found the upgrade to Leopard to be a significant one. I interact with Windows users regularly and as a result I've found it useful to also purchase Microsoft Office for Mac. I prefer iLife for publishing and presentations though. I prefer the Mac Mail, Address Book, and iCal to the applications

i just purchased this computer a week ago so i suppose things could change but at this point the computer has been great. The portability was a huge factor for me as it should be for anybody contemplating the purchase of this laptop. As a student i don't really need this computer for much more than word documents, internet, email, itunes, and the occasional movie/youtube video. Speed has not been an issue - something i wasn't sure about as i almost purchased the SSD option. Fortunately i didn't and this has been fine. I ordered the superdrive just in case though i havn't used it yet. For installing microsoft office i used the remote disc drive and that worked absolutely fine. So far the fan/overheating problem that other people were talking about hasn't been an issue and the temp does get warm, but not hot enough to get laggy or be uncomfortable. So far my two nitpicks are that the battery isn't great - 4+ hours of internet/itunes if the screen brightness is down all the way... but
