Nikon 12.3-Megapixel Digital SLR Camera - Black
The Nikon D300 is the best DSLR so far made for the advanced consumer market. The features included in the D300 are or are almost the same as the professional Nikon D3 professional camera that is over three times the price. Best buy that I have made in a while and I am quite satisfied with the 18 to 200 mm lens and the SB-900 flash that I have purchased for it.

Nikon 12.9-Megapixel Digital SLR Camera - Black
I have to admit that coming from a D40 background I didn't think the learning curve would be that much, but this camera is full of features (it is after all a baby version of the D300) with extra knobs and a top LCD screen so it will take you a little while to learn about all the features. I look at this as a good thing because I was starting to get a little bored with my D40 and had reached its limits. So if this is your first DSLR and you're on a budget, it MAY be a good idea to hold off on this and learn with a lesser camera first so you would appreciate it more (and save a little money)

If you're a serious amatuer, the camerea itself is a beautiful thing. the high ISO performance is awsome. Once I learned about the secondary control wheel, i could change my camera settings much faster than the D40. Having an Autofocus motor also has opened up a whole new world of classic nikkor lenses which surprisingly autofocus fast. Flash commander mode works like a charm too. Overall a great

Nikon 12.3-Megapixel Digital SLR Camera - Black
The Nikon D300 was the camera that convinced me to complete my migration from Canon's EOS Digital system. My previous main body was a Canon EOS 20D. I liked that camera, but had become frustrated by its small rear display and lack of a sensor dust-removal system. I have a collection of manual focus Nikkor lenses from my film days, and I tested the Nikon waters a few years ago by purchasing a D40 to experiment with those lenses. Using the manual lenses on the D40 was less than satisfactory (no metering), but I did find myself turning to the D40 regularly over the following months. I preferred its treatment of highlights and noise to that of the Canon - the Nikon approach to image processing undoubtedly results in a more "film-like" result.

Anyway, back to the D300 - The display is gorgeous - HUGE compared to the Canon 20D. The image processing is superb: low noise until ISO 1600, but the noise that is there is not unpleasant (unlike the blotchy results I would get from the Canon at those

Nikon 12.9-Megapixel Digital SLR Camera - Black
Just do yourself a big favor and just get this camera... happy days will soon come... Excellent control and user interface layout... low light photography with the kit lens alone is a knock-out!... 4.5 frames/sec. got you covered for action shots... the HD video feature is a plus... but you'll be turned off by the mediocre audio quality... Feature by feature the best pro-sumer DSLR to date... Easily, the camera which bridges the consumer and professional photographers... so why are you still sitting there?... go get it!

Nikon 12.3-Megapixel Digital SLR Camera - Black
The Nikon D300 DSLR is one of the most feature rich cameras for it's price. The Nikon D300 is is a rugged camera with a magnesium alloy frame and a fair amount of weather/dust sealing. The ruggedness of this camera is apparent from the moment you first pick up to handle it. The controls and buttons are well placed and easy to use, and if you've used other Nikon DSLRs, you'll find the D300 controls quite familiar with few exceptions.

At 12.3MP from it's DX sensor, the Nikon D300 offers crisp accurate colors and sharp detail that can't be found in the lower priced consumer level cameras. The quality is especially noticeable in less than perfect shooting conditions such as poorly lit situations, where the auto-focus performance coupled with usable images up to the ISO 3200 range. That's not to say the D300 doesn't have noise at it's higher ISO settings, it does, but the noise levels are much more acceptable than past offerings such as the D200 or D100 Nikon DLSRs. The Nikon D300 can be pushed

Nikon D90 12-Megapixel Digital SLR Camera - Body Only
I upgraded from the D80, which was an upgrade from the D50. Not surprisingly, the D90 is miles ahead of both cameras. The image quality is superb. For some reason I never fell in love with my D80. It seemed to struggle with proper exposure. Strangely, my D50 didn't have that problem. But the D90 appears to get the exposure correct, most of the time. I really like the ability to adjust color saturation in-camera. The auto focus is excellent and the very fast frame rate in burst mode is great for sports shooting. The LCD screen is one of the main improvements. It is very large and bright. I'm not going to review the video mode - I didn't buy the camera for that reason. I liked the D50, tolerated the D80, but love the D90. Isn't technology progress great?

Nikon 12.9-Megapixel Digital SLR Camera - Black
I was going back and forth between the 90 and the 300. Obviously the 300 is a slightly more professional camera with a better frame, faster shutter, better autofocus, etc., but the D90 is so close to it and comes with a slightly better sensor and is $500 cheaper. Also, it has video. Now, before you stop reading because I mentioned that, let me make this statement. Video had nothing whatsoever to do with my decision. I had no interest in using a DSLR for video. But now that I've played with it, I think it is incredible. Now, it won't replace my camcorder but it will allow me to capture brief (

Nikon 12.9-Megapixel Digital SLR Camera - Black
Got the camera and the 18-200 lense a few weeks back. I am upgrading from a D70. Overall, I am very satisfied with the quality of the pictures - much better response in low light - higher ISO and better focus than the 70. Love the lens as well - this will be all I need for everything.

I did have an issue with the camera where I was getting F-- errors intermittently - depending on how I held the camera. This is a lens error per documentation. I was also getting CHA errors on the camera which is a chip error and only recoverable by removing the battery. Given that I was only 2 weeks into the camera I spoke with Amazon and exchanged the unit and lens for a replacement. I am confident that the new unit, which I got very quickly from Amazon - will function fine.

Great unit and the video is a great feature.

Nikon 12.9-Megapixel Digital SLR Camera - Black
Switched from the Canon Xsi to this, and the difference (for the better) is amazing.

Things I love about the D90:
-size is perfect, ergo is great, fits really nicely in the hands
-hi res LCD screen is amazing
- AF is very accurate, if a little slow (but I will take slower but accurate over faster and missed focus any day)
- interface is great
-lots of hard buttons on the outside (possibly too many?)
-high iso noise performance is outstanding
-top LCD is much better than having to solely rely on back LCD

Things I don't like so much:
-priced on the high end
- video is pretty poor, unless you are doing studio or very controlled shoots, and you REALLY know what you are doing (I have seen some amazing videos using certain lenses with the D90 video, but for the casual videographer, I think you will get much MUCH worse results
-Live View is almost worthless except maybe for macro situations. Slow slow slow, and the screen does not move. Sony has the best LV system by far on a DSLR imo.
-weight...though

Nikon D90 12-Megapixel Digital SLR Camera - Body Only
Look, this is an outstanding camera. It really is. I think others have probably already expounded on its greatness better than I can so I will keep this review (reasonably) short.

Here are the three things that jump out at me, and I will be comparing this camera to the Canon 5D (full frame) which I used previously to this.

Sharpness: Good god this camera is sharp. To me it is noticeably better than the 5D in terms of definition, detail and sharpness. I have gone back and pulled out similar pictures taken with the 5D (5D with L series lenses) and they are not as sharp. I am a sharpness whore and a pixel peeper so trust me on this. It's amazingly sharp.

Auto Exposure: very good; but not blow me away great. It will take some getting used to and I think perhaps I will have to fine tune it more than I thought I would have to. I'm really just nitpicking here; it's not a big deal and it's not bad; again just not blow me away great right out of the box.

Low-light performance: I'm sorry, but

Nikon D90 12-Megapixel Digital SLR Camera - Body Only
Just wow. This is my second Nikon DSLR and a big step up from my fine D-70s. The D-90 is about the same size and weight which is important if you're holding this camera throughout a busy day. The focus is fast and accurate in most cases. The d-lighting is a nice feature for compressing highly dynamic lighting. Shooting 4.5 frames per second is wonderful. The rear screen is sharp and bright. The ability to shoot 720P video is nice but is limited by a lack of automatic focus. The resulting video is very sharp as the DSLR's lens are bigger than anything short of a professional video camera. Nice for an occasional video but not a full replacement.

Nikon 12.3-Megapixel Digital SLR Camera - Black
I recently upgraded from a Nikon D70s to the Nikon D300. I was rather unprepared for how material an upgrade it was. From its lightening fast and nearly flawless autofocus system, to the incredible fps rate, to its overall ease of use, this camera is incredible. The controls are layed out so intelligently that it allows you to very quickly change your shooting preferences. The only complaints, which are minor, are that the switch at the base of the camera's lens mount that controls the focus type (manual, single, continuous) is exposed and easy to inadvertantly change. I am also a little disappointed with the onboard flash system. However I just ordered the SB900 Speedlight which should remedy that. Overall this camera is pro quality in every way, and the good far outweighs the minor issues.

Nikon D90 12-Megapixel Digital SLR Camera - Body Only
This is a brilliant camera. I am only an amateur, but in my opinion, this is the best value DSLR out there. I chose it over the D300, Canon EOS40D and Olympus E3 (I played with all of them before deciding). Very easy to get great images. It's low light performance is worth it's weight in gold too. No more nasty brightly lit, squinty faces! Sure it takes videos, which is a fun diversion, but it's the image quality that is expecially outstanding. Lots of choices for lenses too, but one I'd definitely recommend is the Nikon 50mm f/1.8D AF Nikkor Lens($110 BARGAIN of the century).

Nikon 12.9-Megapixel Digital SLR Camera - Black
I just upgraded from the Nikon D40x and I love this Nikon D90. I read a lot of reviews on this camera before I choose to upgrade. I have only had it for two days now and only had one nice day to use it. I am not a professional but one that love to take pictures. The one thing I read a lot about was the video part of the camera. I have to say that it is more than I expected. I did not buy it for that part but as far as I can tell it works great. I also had a remote for the Nikon D40x and it works great on the Nikon D90.

Nikon 12.9-Megapixel Digital SLR Camera - Black
I bought the D90 body as a step up from the D40. Exposure is much better (the D40 likes to over-expose), I can now autofocus on my 50/1.4 AF-D, ISO1600 is even cleaner, and the picture controls are to die for.

I didn't think it possible, but the rear LCD is much better than the D40's.

I've tried the 720p video feature, but don't find it terribly useful. I've also used live view to nail large aperture focus exactly where I want it, which I don't use often, but is very handy when I need it.

I was happy with the D40. The D90 is even better, and a great step up from the D40.

Nikon 12.9-Megapixel Digital SLR Camera - Black
This camera exceeded all my expectations. Purchased after reading several favorable reviews by respected authorities. I have owned professional 35 MM film cameras in the past (Nikon) and several digital cameras recently (Sony and Canon)but this camera just blows them away. Even taking "snap shot" pictures exceeds the capabilities of the 35 MM film cameras using the best techniques under the best conditions. I also found the menu and user interface to be both convenient and intuitive. Great camera for a great price!

Nikon D90 12-Megapixel Digital SLR Camera - Body Only
I think most of us buying D90 would be someone like me. Goto review website for technical review and skip the rest. Read mine if you use it like I do. Here you go. Enjoy!

I have a D50 and just bot a D90. I shoot primary my daughters' school events usually indoor in a gym or threater. I have some of Nikon better F2.8 glasses. With indoor lighting and action such as TKD. The results are sometimes less than satisfactory. When using flash, the subject is well lit but the background would be dim. (you could solve this placing multiple flashes in the GYM like the professionals) when not using flash, you get hand shakes and motion blur. I shot my daughter's TKD blackbelt test yesterday, the D90 blew me away. Here is what it does, on Sport mode with Flash, it selected ISO 1100, F4 and 1/60. subject is well lit, the back kick is frozen to show the form, the foreground and background of the GYM were well lit. The white balance is perfect. I could not have done a matter job myself in manual mode!

Nikon 12.9-Megapixel Digital SLR Camera - Black
I upgraded from a D70s to the D90. I really like the improvements so far. The bigger screen is great, and it shoots much faster then the D90. I have not used it enough yet to get into the fine details, but so far it has exceeded my expectations. The only downside, which is temporary, is lack of support tor RAW on the D90. Frustrating not to be able to use Aperture yet with my photos in RAW. The JPGs, though have been good enough for what I have been shooting lately.

It was a good purchase for me.

Nikon 12.3-Megapixel Digital SLR Camera - Black
After researching DSLRs week after week and reading hundreds of reviews, I know there isn't much I can say about this camera that hasn't already been said! So here's my own personal spin (non-technical): my first DSLR was a Sony A100. After being frustrated with the autofocus and wanting to upgrade lenses, yet finding them expensive and hard-to-find, I decided it was time to jump ship and go with either Nikon or Canon from this day forward. I was completely torn between choosing the Nikon D90, the D300 or going with the new Canon 50D. Choosing a brand for lenses seemed almost more crucial to me than the camera itself! In the end, I came to the conclusion that ANY one of these cameras or brands would be completely fantastic in it's own special way. Compare all you want, but they each have something unique that sets them aside and made them a draw in my mind; as a bonus, all were within my price range. The dealbreaker came when I finally got a hold of a Canon 50D in my hands and found

I shoot a lot of sports and the improved auto-focus, high iso performance and 8fps (with the vertical grip and AA batteries) makes me want to sell my D-200 and get another D-300. Be sure to get bigger faster CF cards so you don't have to worry about changing during the game. I got a pair of 8 gb cards and love them. I used to fill up a 2 gb card in the first half of a football game. Oh, and the lcd is "to-die-for" as well. Another surprise I got was that the flash would sync at 1/320. I shoot under crappy high school field lights and get great results. Give me a little daylight and I get unbelievable results.
