Panasonic Blu-ray Disc Player with Standard DVD Upconversion
With HD-DVD gone with the wind, I purchased this player as a high definition (Blu-Ray) disc source to replace my 2nd generation Toshiba HD-DVD player. Although still not as fast as your standard DVD player, I found significant peformance improvment in starting up and reading discs compared to earlier generation high-definition players.

My player is connected via HDMI to a Sony VPL-VW50 (1080p) projector and is projected on a 100" screen. Blu-Ray picture quality is vivid with great sound effects. Setup was very easy and the player has operated flawlessly. Standard DVDs also play with very good picture quality. The player appears to have good DVD upconversion to 1080p.

I upgraded my firmware from version 1.6 to 1.8 using a CD-R by downloading the update from the Panasonic website. The CD-Rs which I created using Vista (tried various formattings) gave an error message and ejected the disc. An earlier post mentions the need to create ISO compliant disk. I used a freeware Express Burn

Sharp Aquos LC65D93U 65-inch 1080p LCD HDTV
We've just received the unit (safely intact) with no dead or stuck pixels. The TV immediately discovered my satellite and my PS3 (after using the first HDMI input). There is an "auto" HDMI port (Input 7) that didn't like the PS3, but I haven't read the manual to see what the auto label means. We tried both Hellboy and PotC: Dead Man's Chest and they look absolutely stunning.

The TV is immense! I'd suggest that you sit no closer than 8 feet or you will notice the pixels. The remote is easy to use and back-lit. The only negative that isn't really mentioned anywhere is that the TV uses HDMI 1.2a instead of the current 1.3x. However, nothing is available that takes advantage of the new HDMI standard and it will probably be many years before it will be widely used.

I've also read that it's not quite as "fast" even with its 120Hz/4 ms rating. Not being a serious audio/video person, I haven't noticed any difference between my old 42" Plasma and this LCD in terms of display speed, so I

Samsung 46" 1080p 120Hz Flat-Panel LCD HDTV
I'm not very technical in nature so i won't get into that. What I will say is after doing my research I chose this TV and went and looked at it a best buy and I was sold. I have had the 50" Pioneer plasma for over a year and it's beautiful however, if an LCD was going to convert me, this would be one of them. More importantly, I would like to mention the experience of buying through AMAZON. I was sceptical paying all this money for a TV through the mail but I saved about $400 (including tax) from the local BB so I thought I would give it a try. In my case, when the TV arrived, the delivery guy brings it inside, opens the top half of the box, hooks it up to a scource to ensure it works and then left. Way more than expected. Now for the icing on the cake. I recently learned about AMAZON's post-order price guarentee. They will refund any reduction in price for 30 days after shipment and let me tell you, in my case it was like watching the stock market (4 price changes in a day). Anyway,

Pioneer KURO 50" Class 1080p Flat-Panel Plasma HDTV
Just got my 5020 last week and this is the best TV that I have seen. I did a lot of research at high end stores and the side by side comparisons with the older 5010 model vs. any other tv (lcd or plasma) wasn't even close. I was looking at the newest Samsung plasmas and LCD's (Toc) but the black levels on the Pioneer really made a big difference. I even asked my 10 year old son to pick the tv with the best picture and he chose the Pioneer. I really wanted to buy the Samsung LCD (Toc) but couldn't get myself to do it knowing the Pioneer's picture was better. I think I would have regretted it later.
The 5020 is thinner than the 5010 and has the newest HDMI 1.3a inputs. I hooked this TV to a brand new Onkyo 606 which is HDMI 1.3a compliant, Time Warner DVR, and a PS3. All I needed was 3 HDMI cables for the entire system.
This TV has the best black levels i have seen which makes the colors really pop and gives more depth to the picture. The TV makes the high def content more 3 dimensional.

Samsung 46" 1080p 120Hz Flat-Panel LCD HDTV
As with most electronics you get what you pay for. I did a lot a research for a good sized HDTV and the review consensus is that this new line of Samsung TV's have a better picture than the Sony's. I would have to agree (of course because I own a Samsung now). I have a PS3 hooked up for blu-ray and DirecTV for hidef satellite. Yes the picture can appear 'grainy' depending on the source and the quality of the original HD picture but with the correct settings you can hardly notice. Blu-ray planet earth even has a few spots where the picture quality wasn't as great as the other 96% of the show and if you nit pick you can see some pixelation. The AMP 120hz setting, I found, really does help when a mountain peak is moving across the screen. Use the 'demo' mode to see the difference when a large stationary object is moving across the screen.

You need to calibrate the picture for the source you're using to get the 'great' picture. There's a 1260+ post thread on the AVS forums dedicated

Samsung 46" 1080p 120Hz Flat-Panel LCD HDTV
The TV is amazing. I looks like you're peaking through a window. It's more than the resolution (which is perfect), it is the depth of color and the motion. It is so real it takes a little time to get used to (and you can remove the effect if it bothers you), but it will blow friends and family away (which is always nice).

The sound is fine (if you get the 750 series it has a built-in woofer), the remote isn't perfect, but its no where near as bad as some of the reviews would lead you to believe.

It also handles standard definition TV very well (some LCDs don't look so hot). Its probably the best TV on the market as of right now, and it isn't overly expensive, if you are struggling to decide, just click BUY NOW, you won't be disappointed.

Samsung 46" Class 1080p 120Hz Flat-Panel LCD HDTV
The Samsung Series 7, 46" HD LCD was easy to connect; I had the TV and home theater system connected in about 10 minutes. Initial TV setup was easy and intuitive. The menu items and submenu items are intuitive. The HD picture quality is absolutely awesome. I have not seen any of the flaws attributed to previous generations of LCD TVs, e.g., blurred response to action scenes. The remote selections are intuitive. In particular, it has a tools menu that contains most of the selections that you would use on a regular basis. The user's manual is very comprehensive, explaining the details of different operating modes. PS: Amazon's "White Glove" delivery service was also great.

Samsung 46" Class 1080p 120Hz Flat-Panel LCD HDTV
Waited to write a review because I wanted the "honeymoon" phase to pass...over a month later and we are still in love with this TV and Amazon! We researched online and in person for a very long time before making our purchase and we couldn't be more thrilled. The picture quality and additional features on this Samsung TV are amazing. Our room is very bright with lots of windows & skylights and we have no problem with glare or picture fade on this unit. Was hesitant to purchase electronics over the internet instead of at a local store, but honestly this is one of the best purchases we have ever made with not a single moment of regret. Amazon shipped the TV very quickly, and the white glove delivery was incredible. They set up the TV in our wall unit, made all the connections so we could check it out before signing for it, and took all the packaging away. The purchase price was lower than the local stores, plus there was no sales tax and no shipping charges. HERE IS THE BEST PART...Amazon

Samsung 46" 1080p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV
I was replacing my old Sony 42A10 Grand Wega Rear Projection LCD. That's an older set and the black levels were notoriously bad. After some calibration, I was able to get a decent picture out of it. Apparantly this line had been lemons though, as optical engine after optical engine being replaced had failed. Time for a new TV.

I was honestly going to go for a Panasonic Plasma originally. Plasmas are known for great contrast levels. I've seen 30,000:1 for some plasma contrast levels, but LCD's are catching up and Samsung this year brings out an affordable set that's below the popular $2000 budget, and makes it a breeze to use.

Out of the box the color levels aren't bad at all. Grey scale is actually not too far off from being accurate with the 'movie mode' setting, which takes off most artificial effects to the picture which would really make colors pop un-naturally and crush darker shades of black so you lose some minor detail. Of course, I did a calibration for this set based

Canon VIXIA 3.3MP High-Definition Digital Camcorder with Flash Memory - Silver

I have a one year old HV20 and a 2 month old HF100. First and foremost, I care about video quality, but convenience is also important.

Each year, we go to the Fraser Valley in Colorado - an area surrounded by pine-forest covered peaks. Last year, we took a ton of footage with the HV20. Did the same this year with the HF-100. Three fundamental things about the video quality strike me in comparing similair footage.

1 - the HV20, given any movement at all, still has a slightly better ability to resolve fine detail. In bright indoor shots and in in reasonably but not overly detailed outdoor shots, not sure I can tell the difference. However, the moment I have a backdrop with lots of pine trees on distant hills, there is a very noticable difference. The HV20 simply seems to resolve a lot more of the distant pine detail. The HV20 did (and does) create a "wow" factor with those kind of shots. The HF100 does not. The 100 is not bad, but I lose the ability to marvel at the distant detail. Of

Samsung 40" 1080p 120Hz Flat-Panel LCD HDTV
The TV is excellent but I wrote this review to make people aware that CEVA shipping is absolutely rubbish and they are the most unprofessional company I have ever dealt with. They kept my TV at their local location for 8 days and marked a note saying that they called the customer and he did not answer and the online tracking says something else totally. But I never received any phone call or VM, and the customer service tells me that they don't know because they are only answering phone - only answering phones ?? what the hell is that ? - and tell me to leave a VM on their system and then no one responds for 2 days.

So if you want to buy this TV buy it from some other place which uses UPS/fedex shipping because through Amazon you don't have a choice but to go through ceva.

Samsung 46" 1080p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV
The first thing is the delivery. I ordered the TV on Wednesday and it was installed and we were watching it on Friday using regular delivery. It may be our location for the quick service. The White Glove service was everthing some people had said it would be. They called a day earlier to say it would be delivered in a three hour window which it was. The two people unboxed it, installed it in my built in cabinet which was about 1/8 inch to small but they made it work. They turned it on and set it up using the automatic channel scan. They hauled off the carton and packaging. I was really unhappy with the picture quality at that time. After they left I started adjusting the TV using directions I got from [...]. You have to remember that all TV's are set to full bright because they don't know which one will be a store display and they must be bright to attract the attention. Turn the back light almost all the way off and the picture will be much better. The picture quality is the best

Samsung 40" 1080p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV
I selected this Samsung LCD TV over the other Samsung 40" TVs because of it has the highest resolution, 1080p, the contrast ratio of 30,000 which gives the best, crisp colors and the refresh rate of 5 ms to show uninterrupted motion. I was tempted by the LN40A650 which has a 4 ms refresh rate but only a 20,000 contrast ratio. I looked at both in a local TV store and decided on the LN40A550. It was also a little less expensive.

Amazon's delivery and installation was outstanding. CAVA not only moved the Samsung into my family room, but installed it and helped me move the old CRT to my car for a trip to the recycling center. Truely a exceptional experience.

Panasonic 50" Class 1080p Flat-Panel Plasma HDTV
Panasonic Viera TH-50PZ800U 50-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV
June 28, 2008
Owned for 45 days

PICTURE QUALITY

I can not say anything negative about the picture quality... it's a ten for today's technology.

SOUND

I dealt with a Panasonic rep when I made a deal on the 800U and he indicated that the sound was superior to the PH-50PX60U I already had... yeah, it's a tad better but not by much. My 14 year old Sony KV-27HFR tuber still blows them away in sound. But I guess most people don't use their flat panel TV for sound like I do... this ones in the bedroom and I don't have an audio system hooked up to it.

BEAUTY

The cabinet is nice... much nicer than I expected. It's got that sheet of glass front rather than several inches of bezel protruding around the glass that most flat panel TVs have nowadays. There is maybe a 1/4 inch low-profile black bezel around the glass front... very new looking. There is still a 3-inch bezel surrounding the picture tube (if that's what they still call them) - but

Samsung 40" 1080p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV
I am not a tv guru, however picture is excellent, and works seemslessly with a samsung dvd player. four stars because speakers are very poor. not everyone wants to hook up a full surrond sound system and reciever. this is for the basement and i didnt want to go crazy. Now i am forced to do something for sound, or else sit there with the volume turned up at least 35-40 %. come on samsung, put in a better quality speaker, and ill pay the extra $.

Samsung PN58A550 58" Widescreen Plasma HDTV with Full HD 1080p
I've had the PN58A550 FOR about a month now and overall I am very pleased.

Positive:
The value is very good on this TV. The picture quality is great. Setup option are more extenisive than most TV's. You can really dial in everything about the picture using regular menus. The overall finish on the TV is really nice. It has a piano gloss finish on the frame and stand that look really sharp. Samsung TV's used to have some of the worst menus ever but the one on this TV is really very good and intuative.

Negatives:
1) There are no S-Video or Composite connections on the back of the TV. There are 1 of each on the left side of the TV.
2) The picture "zoom" feature is just stupid. Sometimes when movies are letterboxed I like to zoom in and not see so much of the top&bottom bars. On the Samsung zoom doesn't zoom, it stretches the picture vertically so everything looks a little too tall.
3) The screen is pretty reflective. Other plasmas do a better job of cutting the glare.

Overall I'm really

Samsung Multiformat DVD-R/-RW/-R DL/+R/+R DL/+RW/RAM Recorder/4-Head Hi-Fi VCR Combo
If I didn't own the earlier model Samsung 357 it would be a 3-4* item based on the other combos I have had (LG/SONY/TOSHIBA). However,I fell in love with the 357 & have been unable to find it for its previous price-this was released & the 357 went up in price $50-100. So I bought this one. These combos die too fast to spend more than $150. I use an HDMI cord/to an LG HDTV/run thru a Samsung Dual tuner DTV satellite DVR. Viewing quality is excellent-recording is another story.

CON (Compared to 357)
*The LP recording is equal to EP quality on the 357 - very poor-blurry for any text on the screen-so if you are keeping DVDs for long term quality recordings you are forced to use more discs since you have half the time per disc.
*it loads slower
*it is extremely loud, when loading it wooshes/stops/ whooshes/stops & whooshes again. The whooshing actually woke up my husband the first few nights I used it.
*Everything you do to a disc viewing menus, loading, removing, etc. everything causes

Philips DVP5982 Ultra Slim HDMI DVD Player with DiVx support
If you own a multi-system television (or a PAL television), you should be aware that all current USA Philips DVD players (including the 5982 and any models made thereafter) have the "TV Type" selections disabled in the firmware. The ONLY choice of output system (for U.S. machines) is NTSC, which is fine for most people, but if you have a multi-system TV, this means your PAL discs are going to undergo an unnecessary standards conversion (to NTSC).

All other worldwide versions of Philips machines still have NTSC, PAL and MULTI as choices in the "TV Type" menu. Why was it removed for the USA? My guess was to end calls to customer service for people complaining about black-and-white pictures (MULTI used to be the default choice back when US machines included all three types).

The 5960 is the last US model of this type/price point (including a USB port) to come with changeable TV type options, FYI.

I HAVE DISCOVERED A WORK-AROUND, however. You can change the player to multi-system by the

OPPO DV-980H 1080p Up-Converting Universal DVD Player with HDMI and 7.1CH Audio
Well I guess I must join the rest of the reviewers as being impressed with "Oppo". Who is Oppo? I hadn't heard of them until I came across them in Amazon. I had 4 dvd's that would not play in my old Denon 1500. One of them played for the first viewing and then later would not play. I decided to look at what was on Amazon and read the reviews. I was sort of thinking of a Sony and for some reason I saw the Oppo. Normally I wouldn't even bother with a brand I never heard of but I saw how many reviews there were and so many 5 stars I thought I better read about this one. Well after reading what others had said and the price was very reasonable I figured I couldn't go wrong. I received my Oppo this evening. I set it up following the easy step by step instructions and was blown away. I couldn't believe my dvd's could look better without buying an hdtv. I have a JVC AV-27D302. It's not an HD but it's a good TV. It's like I bought a step up in TV"s with the Oppo. I wonder how good an HDTV will
