The Wi-fi is great and the quick start is much better than my first Sony Blu-ray. Fireware updates are quick and easy with Wi-Fi where my old Sony Blu-ray I needed up download or burn an update to a CD. A big hassle especially if you just purchased a Blu-ray movie and it won't play. NO LIVE VIDEO STREAMING is a big negative. For some reason I thought it would be included in the product. I didn't do my homework. If live video streaming is not important to than you probably can't buy a better Blu-ray player.

I should have read the other reviews before I purchased this. with 46 years in the electronics industry it's the biggest piece of junk I have ever owned. Bought in Feb. Went to service in March and May, finally sent me a replacement unit, just died today. When it works it's slow to respond to anything and has to be "reset" often. SAVE YOUR MONEY. DO NOT BUY THIS UNIT!

I bought this blu ray disc player solely for the reason that it had 7.1 analog inputs. This blu ray player allows those of us who have spent thousands of dollars building a quality home theater to keep our old equipment instead starting all over again in order to enjoy the benefits of blu ray. If you have a reciever with hdmi you don't need this blu ray player... buy the cheaper version without the 7.1 analog outputs. If you don't like tweaking your equipment and you have lots of cash, buy a new reciever. It took a little extra effort to set up the player to use only the video from the hdmi, and use the sound from the analog outputs. Then you have to adjust all of your speaker and subwoofer levels again. The extra effort is worth it for those of us with a budget. For under two hundred dollars, this blu ray player does all you need it to do and the picture and sound quality is great. I upgraded the firmware before I ever used it and I have not had a single problem playing any disc.

This device works as a DVD recorder as an upgrade from the VCR with the successful transition to digital TV from analog TV. The benefit of this recorder includes
a digital tuner for the price,
has many input capabilities,
HDMI output for ease of connection,
fairly good upconversion to 1080p,
records onto many DVD formats,
and fairly easy to understand.
This device is NOT intended as a digital tuner upgrade for analog TVs as it is EXTREMELY slow to switch between channels.
The issues I have with this device includes the fact that the remote lacks an eject button,
the remote lacks extensive control of the TV making it fairly useless as a multi-device remote,
the DVD recorder freezes once in a while when faced with unsupported video formats with few user friendly remedies to reset the recorder (ie hold the ON button for 30+ seconds, hit the reset button with a paper clip, or unplugging the device completely),
the player doesn't play MPEG

This unit is wonderful when it works, however..... Despite software upgrades being installed, it has a propensity to lock up. It started shortly after purchase, but was very intermittant, and seemed to get better with software upgrades - although may have been perception. Now it is much worse. When it does lockup, it will not play or eject your disc. The only soution appears to be to go away for an hour, and then you may get your disc back. When in the "lockup" mode, it will shut off, and turn on. When you select play or eject it displays the command, but does nothing. This is too bad, as when it works, it does well. Netflix was great (subject to their/cable co) bandwidth limitations; upscaling of DVDs was respectable, although not great; and overall it was an enjoyable unit. The biggest issue is that Samsung only offers a 90 labor warranty - after that you pay shipping both ways and as well as labor. This is acceptable for a $50 Walmart unit, but not for something that a full

I was expecting more from Sony - setup was simple enough but i found the player harder to use than earlier Sony DVD models -maybe this is just the price of BlueRay technology. If you only want to play a disk, ok the picture quality was fine. But functions like fast forward were unusable for DVDs, normally fast forward shows the action speeded up, but here there was a pause and a sequence of jerky jumps ahead without any continuity of motion - you couldn't even tell how fast you were forwarding, one second, two seconds, per jump.... Slow motion was similarly problematic. The startup screen was confusing even to someone who has used a half dozen dvd players and recorders in the past. I was hoping for the player to be just like a DVD player that could also play BlueRay disks.

if you cant playback what it says it does than your doing something wrong. i bought this player over a year ago and have not had any problems with it. the picture quality doesnt just depend on the player, it also depends on your tv and well i have 2 different types of tv's and it looks good on one and great on the other. i have thrown all dvd and cd playback options at it to see if it would play and it does play all of them.it plays the divx or "avi" files when made as data discs. it plays dvd-/+R/DL/RW, jpeg, IT PLAYS IT ALL...JMR

easy to use, should start faster when requesting instant record. picture is so good it seems like you are watching program live and not on a recording.

I bought this player after my upconverting dvd player's remote quit working, which gave me a good excuse to upgrade. For the price this player can't be beat. The picture quality is awesome, the upconverting looks good, and the sound is great too. The menus, setup, and features are very user friendly. The start up times are good, and I don't notice the long wait time some have mentioned. It does lack certain features which would be nice, such as the Netflix streaming capability. Although I have a Netflix account, I would have to set it up through wi-fi (not available with this player), and I don't think I would use it that frequently for it to be an issue. My main concern in choosing a blu ray player was it's compatibility with recordable dvd's (dvd+r or dvd-r). I have alot of home movies on standard recordable discs and wanted to make sure that I would be able to view them on the player. This player does play my standard recorded dvd's without any problems. The issue involving the player

I did lots of research and finalized on BD80, for which I am very happy. I did looked into all the reviews on BD60 in addition to BD80 reveiw, basically this player has few additional features to the BD60 player , which has good rating all over the sites. BD80 is nothing but BD60 + additional features. The key additional feature ,what I feel are 7.1 Analog output, playing Divx formats and Playback Information Window. The one I bought had 1.6 profile, after connecting to Internet, it automatically detected and offered firmware update and updated it to 2.1 profile. Amazon on Demand picture quality is really amazing. The only con , I can see is Netfilx connectivity is missing, however , I assume, we can expect that in near future.. along with any firmware update... I can see the difference in Picture Quality and Audio Quality. I would highly recommend this product. Thanks to 6Ave for good packing and prompt delivery.

Great DVD Recorder, even recording at slower speeds, compared to the competition. I own three different DVD Recorders, from major brands, and this is the best,

We bought this for my dad for his birthday, but we didn't have a chance to buy him any blu-ray movies yet. We played some standard DVD's and the upconverted picture was amazing in comparison to our upconverting DVD player. The setup was very simple. We practically just set it on the shelf and plugged it in.

Got this blu-ray player for $149.99 bargaining with price match at local BB store. Have been looking for the player with great image and sound and less than $200, this one surprises me how cheap it is. Even better the price of the blu-ray movies have dropped. Also, went online and got a 6' HDMI cable for about $15 with 1.3 cat. and full compatibility up to 1080p. In addition, very easy to set up. So far I'm very impressed and satisfied of my decision. Recommended this blu-ray player to anyone...P.S. Don't forget the Price Match! Talk directly the BB manager to get Price Match!

Bought the player over the weekend and had it setup in 5 minutes. Connecting HDMI to a 40" Samsung 1080p HDTV. Audio is connected using RCA analog to an old Panasonic 300w surround sound that does not have any digital audio inputs....I just set the configuration on the Blu-Ray player to audio compression enabled and BAM..great sound over analog...who knew! Now I can wait another year to buy a new receiver. Was thinking of getting the Panasonic surround with built-in Blu-Ray but the speaker wires on all the all-in-one home theater units now have a big plastic connector soldered on the receiver end. Which would mean I would have to rerun all the speaker wires..PAIN. So upgrading to a full receiver next time.
Buy this Blu-Ray player...upconversion of standard DVD is also impressive!!

I love the sound and picture quality. I also agree it is annoying that there is no eject button on the remote control. Also, this unit does not "remember" the last point at which you stopped the movie. It starts from scratch, even if you take a one hour break from the movie (without ejecting it even!). I expect more from Sony.

Nice Blu Ray for the price. After reading some of the reviews I had gotten a little nervous about hearing that this model would freeze up. I have not had that problem but am still a little weiry. So far so good. Also a week after I had bought my Blu Ray at Amazon for $172 It went down in price almost $40 cheaper. Still a good price though. Other movies not in Blu Ray also look better with the upconversion.

I am happy with this Sony BDP-S560 Blu-ray player. I have only had this player for a short time and have only watched a few DVDs but the Dark Night video is amazing, (it was filmed with I-Max cameras). It does seem like the recent newer movies in Blu-ray have a better HD picture quality than the older movies converted to HD Blu-ray. I didn't realize that if you are already receivig 1080i or 1080p over the air, Satellite, or via cable, it dosen't get any better than that. Blu-ray HD is 1080p. This player performs well and has plenty of great reviews by others. The built-in menus are very nicly layed out. I have not tried the on-line BD-Live feature yet but the Wi-Fi connection to my home wireless network came up and connected automatically and very easily. The DVD Upscaling of existing standard DVDs did not make them look any better in my opinion on the couple that I viewed. The picture quality appeared to hot or over-driven, this could possibly be improved by adjusting the DVD player

System works fine with Bluray. On standard DVD it locks up and either the video freezes while the audio continues or vice versa. Went through two systems so far with problems, about to go swap for a 3rd. The remote is not intuitive and cumbersome to use. You have to hit the enter button to get a movie to play from the menu instead of just the play button. I only bought this because it was bundled with a TV that I wanted. If it had worked it would have been a great price, as it has now become a headache it is not.

I decided on this Sony bluray player because I have a Sony HD TV. I figured same brand, less hassle. This player produces excellent picture quality from bluray discs but there is much to be desired when playing DVDs. This bluray player's upconverting is NOT on par with the Sony DVD player (DVP-NS710), which I consider as excellent. I was able to compare upconversion picture quality as I have both players, but if you don't have both players to compare PQ then you would likely never notice the difference. The main reason I give this bluray player only 3 stars is because of the slooooooow loading time. It's quite a wait between the time when I load the tray to the time when the movie starts playing. (Although there is a menu option to speed up the load time I've chosen not to turn on the option as I prefer to have the built-in fan kick in right away.) I updated the firmware hoping that load time would speed up but no luck.

This product is just poor quality. Its not the first Samsung product I've had issues with (but it is the last).
Like others, the DVD just quit reading disks after about 5 months of VERY limited use and yes, it costs about $50+ to repair.
It's basically a disposable player.
Set up was rather easy- but come to think of it, what DVD player isnt easy to set up?
