Panasonic VIERA S1 Series TC-P42S1 42-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV

Picked this beauty up yesterday, replacing my Toshiba 32' lcd, wow what a difference!! I was going to get the Sony 40" lcd, but this tv was $60 cheaper. I put it on my desk, so I am about 4ft. away when viewing, and it is like a being in a movie theatre. I use a reciever for all my audio, so I can't comment on the tv speakers, I highly recommend everyone does the same. I was worried about getting a glare on the glass screen, but there is no issue with that. My Best Buy didn't have one on display, so I had to do a blind buy, no regrets yet. This is the first plasma I have ever owned, hopefully it lasts a long time, will be picking up the 4 year protection plan later this month. Still haven't figured out how the Viera works, but only had the tv for one day.

Great tv. Had previous Panasonic plasma so figured I couldn't go wrong with this purchase. Sound could be better just like the previous model but because I've had zero problems with the first one I got this one.

The TV has been just what we expected. While we haven't been using HD yet (we are waiting for our cable company to turn it on), we have been very please with the picture.

Our first plasma was a Samsung, and it is interesting to compare the two brands. Samsung has more pronounced colors that are brigther, and we think it looks especially great with gaming. However the Panasonic really shows a natural tint to it, making people look just right. In the past, we prefer the brighter, more colorful look, but we are very please to have made this purchase. We'll have to hook up the gaming consoles to get a different feel for the picture!

In my quest for a new MB/R TV, I had been researching LCD vs. Plasma, features, pricing, ratings and reviews for more months than I truly care to even mention. I caught a late October in-store special at HHG, which not only offered the lowest price I had seen anywhere on this TV, but also a free Panny Blu-ray player. That made the deal both irresistible and unbeatable, at just under seven Ben Franklins for everything. These newer Panasonic Viera plasmas with the fast 600 Hz Neo PDP panels are brighter, more power efficient, have an ultra wide viewing angle, suffer no image retention, run much cooler and are only just slightly heavier than an LCD TV of the same size. The more natural looking plasma picture quality, along with the full-time 1080p zero motion blur, is seriously, as good as your gonna get. Period!! They are an absolute steal in this price range, compared to any fast LCD or LED models. This combined with the legendary Panasonic build quality and reliability made it a no-brainer.

Great tv. excellent picture, good color, does fine in a well lit room or a dark one. Great black levels. Anti-glare feature works great. Sound quality is good. Enjoyed watching the game on a Sunday afternoon. 42 inch is a good size for a living room.

I was a tried and true Sony user until i saw this Panasonic product. I had no trouble making up my mind after seeing the amazing colors compared to the other products for sale. The future of TV is here and it's name is Panasonic! Go ahead and do it! Buy one and be amazed at what you have been missing!

Me and my roommate had purchased this tv about a year ago upon moving into an apartment...We are quite the gamers and spent countless...........countless hours of game time on this tv...I play mostly first person shooting games so the refresh rate is a must for a tv...lets just say that the picture quality of the tv and refresh rate pretty much put me at an advantage while gaming. Picking out details in the picture is simple as can be and once we purchased a Pioneer elite reciever and JBL speakers...well watching dave matthews on blu ray play in NYC was almost as if you were there...not an exageration. I am about to purchase yet another one of the tv's for my own and look forward to the multimedia options. Plan to use it as my primary computer screen and basically link everything together using the HDMI inputs....Cannot and will not be dissapointed with this tv.......

Basically, great tv for gaming, picture quality is excellent, the sound from the tv speakers is ok but you'll be

STAY AWAY. I bought this unit from Costco. In my day I have owned Sony, Mitsubishi, Samsung and Toshiba televisions. This is my first (and last) Sharp television. Right out of the box the unit had a burned out pixel. After contacting Sharp they required a myriad of pictures to prove it (5-6 pictures, I am surprised that 1-2 pictures isn't enough). They also said that they would get back in touch with me in 36-48 hours; it took them a week after multiple emails. They emailed me back saying how this was "within our specifications". How does a burned out pixel qualify as within someones specifications on a high definition TV? Obviously thy have a standard well below mine. They refuse to act on the TV. Other matters - the remote is underpowered; the set-up doesn't allow for in dependent selection of digital vs. analog channel screening; not favorites on remote; no multiple component operational capability. I have multiple Samsung televisions. Their quality control has been unpeccable.

I brought a panasonic 42" 720p back and picked this one up for an extra $100. Can't beat that. And I am glad that I did. I can tell a difference with this tv and the 720p with digital cable, and a definite difference when watching blu ray (i'm aware that blu ray is supposed to be 1080p anyways). BB had the best price on this tv for 699., and although I would have liked to have the 50", I did not want to spend another $400 extra. This tv looks great in 1080p and I am sitting approximately 10 feet from it. Be weary of buying into the hype that a larger screen size is more beneficial than having 1080p (for example, buying a 50" at 720p vs a 42" at 1080p). I would much rather have the 1080p at 42". BEsides, the 1080p has almost twice the amount of pixels.

I really shouldn't complain...but why not? We have a Sony 46in 1080p, 2 yrs. old ($1,600 then), mid-level model. Image quality of HD stuff (Verizon FIOS, only transmits 1080i currently)knocks me out. Picture has resolution, detail, brightness, color..almost a feeling that you walk through the damn screen into the scene, a depth and 'solidity' to objects, just breathtaking. And I haven't gotten tired of the experience. (I do not work for SONY, no other disclosures). So for my 70th birthday, I decided to get a plasma 40-42in 1080p to watch "my stuff": plasma picture is better, blacks this, color that, price. So I get the S1 and the picture doesn't measure up to the SONY. I've adjusted/played with the modes, adjusted the brightness, saturation, sharpness parameters, etc., and only with some material, here and there, do I get the 'SONY' experience. Unfair comparison? Any Ideas?

I've had my Panasonic TC-P42S1 for 3 weeks now and I couldn't be happier with it. The picture quality from non-HD to HD is very noticeable and I'm not even using a HDMI cable from the cable box to the TV, even though there is 3 HDMI ports on the TV. The audio is descent but could be improved upon. I think it would sound much better with an audio system. Easy to set up. 5 minutes out of the box and you're watching TV. If you're looking for a good TV at a reasonable price but don't need all the bells and whistles of expensive systems then this is a very good buy.

This TV does everything well. Its a well rounded TV that does everything you need it too. The picture is very good but not the best. The features are very good but not the best. You see where I'm going... The sound quality is better than average also. The ipod dock is very slick and tucks away nicely. If you want a set that does everything very good and no flaws this ones for you.

I own and love 50" Pioneer (purchased two years ago) and this bedroom TV is almost as good for 1/3 the price. The delivery was quick and the set up was easy for this mechanically incompetent knucklehead. My only mistake was not buying an HDMI cable at the same time. I spent $50 for one at Radio Shack and later saw Amazon had one for $9.00!! You cannot go wrong, on any level, with this purchase from Amazon.

I waited until we owned this Panasonic TC-P42G10 Plasma TV for a few months before reviewing. Picture quality is just phenomenal! Along with the picture being extremely sharp the colors on screen are brilliant and vivid thanks to the black level on this TV which really makes the picture pop. I researched for weeks before purchasing this HDTV to find the best quality picture for the money and thus far we have not been disappointed. My only regret is not purchasing the 50 or 54" version of this TV. If you are looking to purchase an outstanding quailty HDTV at a great price point you can't go wrong here. I read many are articles about Plasmas and one thing I believe everyone should NOT do is adjust their contrast above a level of 50 until they have at least 100 hours of use. I adjusted my contrast to 48 and it is still set at that level today. At some point in the future I may adjust our contrast level higher but for now picture is sharp and images pop with the level at 48. I purchase alot

This tv is the best I've ever owned. The blacks are black and the reds are right where they're supposed to be. It' what I expected from Pansonic because I have owned them before and they always produce a good product.I watch a lot of football and the picture keeps up with the action. The delivery by Amazon was terrific. They called beforehand on delivery day and asked if they could come early. When the fella got here he set it up, showed me some of the features and left.Total elapsed time:15 min.

I recently bought this tv and the experience has been great all around. The tv itself is completely amazing. The picture quality is jaw dropping, with beautiful colors, deep blacks and amazingly vivid detail. I have seen lots of other HDTVs (including ones I have owned) and this tv beats them all hands down. I really couldn't be happier with the quality of the picture this tv produces. All of the reviews were spot on in this regard. The external aesthetic look of the tv is also very nice. It looks classy and the build quality seems a step above. The experience of ordering from Amazon was simply a pleasure. I ordered the tv on a Monday night and received it early Thursday morning, only a little over two days later. I couldn't believe how fast it got to me. The price was great and the tv got to me in perfect condition. Amazon is the best.I couldn't be happier with the tv or the buying experience. A+++

It has been about 4 months since I purchased this TV. I also have a Samsung LN46A650 LCD TV that I purchased from Amazon a year ago. Delivery on both was very good although the delivery person for the Panasonic didn't know too much about setting up and connecting the set. The jack marking was confusing but togeather we worked it out. The Panasonic has vivid deep colors and I think the picture is a little sharper than the Samsung. The colors on the Samsung are however more true to life. The Samsung has more color adjustments available including flesh tone which allows better color reproduction. Maybe I am too picky but the Panasonic tends to reproduce flesh tones with a slight green tint on darker scenes and a rose tent on some others. Most scenes are OK however. The Samsung has much better sound. The Panasonic sound has a hollow characteristic. This may be due to the angle of the speakers and I have it a few inches from a flat wall. The viewing angle of course is better on the Panasonic
