We got this to replace a 6 year old Emachines that died. I am pleasantly surprised at the speed and versatility. We bought it for basic things but it is able to play games like WoW, Far Cry, and TF2 at reasonable settings. The processor does extremely well for what it is. We got this at the store for $249 since that was the price on the website at that time. The only problem was that the software for creating Recovery discs did not work even when patched per instructions in a Live Chat Support session. A followup Chat resulted in getting a free set of Recovery Discs instead of having to pay $20. Don't let anyone tell you that Emachines support is bad. This is the 4th machine I have registered with them and the support through the Live Chat has always been excellent.
One thing I do miss is that it has no activity lights for the Hard Dive or DvD drive but that is becoming common these days.

Well built and nice looking product. The rounded edges and sleek lines of this netbook are really nice. It has a subdued pattern on the lid that is unique. Other Features that I like are the keyboard and built in webcam.

I had a problem with battery not holding charge. BB sent me an entire new computer in a week and the new one works fine. I tested my new battery, fully charged to dead- 3 hrs and 16min. I thought that was okay. I always plug it into a wall so it really not a huge issue.
As far as the small keyboard, your fingers adapt within the first few times using it. Overall a great little netbook and have recommended it.

I am a little women and needed a laptop that wouldn't kill me to carry around. This mini is very light weight with a cool design. Everything works perfect except that I did not purchase extra memory so it takes a little while to boot up and sometimes the internet is slow loading. I will be purchasing extra memory soon. The battery life is great I can sit through a 3 hour class and still be fine. I love the keyboard it is very easy to type on and it is actually a very good sized keyboard.

Lets be honest about most computer users. They are not running Call of Duty 4 and they are not running photoshop. What most users want in a Notebook can be found in this Netbook. The LCD back lit screen is gorgeous to work on. It provides plenty of real estate to easily navigate a web page as well as work on document. I chose the Mini 311 because of the ION graphics. Now with Adobe Flash 10.1 Beta you can watch HiDef Hulu in full screen with no stutter. Its the perfect take with you computer, its light weight, long battery life while still managing to pack quite a punch thanks to the ION graphics. I recommend this for anyone looking for basic computing on the go. I have two desktops to supplement this device but I have yet to encounter a task that the HP Mini 311 has failed to accomplish. I use the Mini 311 for work where I deal with network infrastructure. I use it at school where I am continuing my education via the Cisco Networking Academy and other IT related courses. If this fits

Great netbook. Ordered the black version online (the red - the only one they carry in stores - was a little too much red for my taste). Nice to have 3 USB ports on such a small chassis. Waited get Windows 7 instead of XP - glad it did. Performance was acceptable but upgrading to 2GB of RAM (its max capacity) really made a noticeable difference. My only complaints are the easily smudged glossy case (keep the Windex handy...) and while the spring on the lid keeps it securely closed, you'll need 2 hands to open again. Bottom line - Would I buy again? Yes.

Easy setup out of the box. Found the wireless connection and was hooked up in about 5 min. Used battery for about 2 hours after full charge and still says over 4 hours left. Keyboard is easy to use as well. Windows 7 is easy to use, waited for it to be installed on some netbooks before purchase, as I heard it was nice. Camera works great. Flash player and Adobe work perfectly, watched tons of HULU and no problems at all. If you just want the internet and portability at a good price this appears to be the one.

A great product. One thing that I found was that the free Norton anti-virus and other security stuff (firewall, etc) were not activated automatically. The Norton AV said it was on in some places, and at other times said it was off, so that was a little frustrating. Also, I found that some of my stuff (my Sony IC recorder for example) is not compatible with Windows 7, and the email and internet connection at my school is not set for Windows 7 yet either. This is not a flaw with the computer of course, but something to keep in mind since W7 is somewhat new. Otherwise, I love it. I still use my regular laptop for videos and so on, but the HP mini does pretty much everything the other one does except for the CD/DVD stuff.

The battery is so large that it protrudes out of the rear. The nice thing about that is it angles the keyboard towards you. I might need to update some settings, but after about 3 hours of continuous use the battery indicator shows low. I thought a 6 cell battery was supposed to be good for about 8 hours.
Other than battery life, this is an awesome netbook.

My wife loves her net book, very thin, light, bright screen and clear. Good wireless and fast with windows 7 light. With 160gb hard drive she can store what ever she wants. Seems to last a long time on a charge. Only thing she wishes it had is integrated bluetooth. These have come a long way, I have an asus and this one compares well with it. Looks well built and has the access to upgrades such as hard drive and ram on the bottom, something acer didn't have last year, major pain to change or upgrade when a net book has to be torn appart to upgrade or fix.

For the price paid this netbook is a great value! Quick speed for wireless internet, email, etc. I chose this unit because of having Windows 7 and 250GB HDD, for the price of other netbooks that only offered Win XP and 160GB. Sharp looking in glossy red too!
I plan to keep the netbook bare bones and not add a ton of programs, to keep it's performance optimized. For gaming not ideal - graphics card not powerful, resolution not high.
For spyware, AV, and security I suggest trying Norton Internet Security Netbook edition (free trial from website) instead of the desktop version pre-loaded) its lightweight and uses very little memory, unlike their older programs. Works great for this netbook (McAfee slowed it down too much). Norton has a 60 day free trial
Can’t go wrong with this one!!

I bought this netbook (my first one) to take on vacations and for traveling, portability. So far, I have been pretty happy. It is small, lightweight and the battery life is OUTSTANDING. That was a major deciding factor in choosing this netbook over the HP brand. Also, the bigger hard drive influenced my decision as well. I am using this netbook strictly for personal use (e-mail, internet surfing) so it was not that important for me to have alot of bells and whistles on it.
I thought that for being so small I would have difficulty typing on the keyboard; happily, this has not been an issue at all!!!
The main thing that I have noticed (that Im not to keen on) is the keyboard is slow at times; when Im typing (I have especially noticed it while e-mailing and while using Facebook) I will have to hit a key several times for the letter/symbol to appear. That can get very frustrating, especially when Im typing really fast. Im not sure what that is all about or if it has anything

I got this netbook as part of that great deal on 3 HP PCs and wireless router. The price was definitely right. This is my second netbook I purchased , I had an 8.5" before and it is too small. This 10" screen fell right up my alley, not to mention the almost full sized keyboard is much more comfortable to type on. The features of this netbook are great i am using it with a $25 USB bluetooth adapter. This enables me to use it with my blackberry tour 9630 via bluetooth as a modem to connect to the internet. Works flawlessly. Believe me you for the price this is a great deal.

I love this little guy. Easy to take with me anywhere I go. Has enough computing power to meet my needs.
There is no optical drive, but this shouldn't deter anyone from purchasing. You can get a nifty little external drive if you just can't live without one.
The first time I used the mini for a video call, I was appalled at the quality of the graphics and sound. I overcame this with adjustments to the power settings for the graphics chip. A simple right-click to the icon, then click on options, then click on display settings. There's a button to click on for power settings. Adjusting the power settings, gave the chip the ability to process good quality video calls.

Wroked fine until the hard drive failed one month after the purchase date. Has to be sent to texas - at my expense- so they can replace the hard drive.

Great gadget at cost of mobile phone. Full HD video on NVIDIA ION works if the right codecs are installed. Easy reinstallation/recovery - I had to do it because of F-Secure anti virus solution, which crashed my XP OS. Some limitations because of XP home, but generally i'm really impressed.

Really like the size and portability. Got the machine for carrying to meetings. Chose the 250 GB hard disk to store PDFs of reference materials needed during my meetings. Size is unobtrusive and allows use even if table space is not available. Don't like carrying hang-ons so the mousepad with scroll bar is adequate. Battery life seems to hold up. Have taken the machine to 3hours + and had plenty of battery left. Automatic WiFi detection is good. Have run on connections at 1-2 bars. Tends to be slow at the lower end with occasional unresolved URL requests.
Really don't like the fact that you can not make the system recovery disks described in the User Manual with-out purchasing an external CD/DVD.
With 3 USB ports available, one would think that this could be moved to USB flash drives. There are web blogs describing how to make bootable USBs, but they somewhat Techy. You need to be comfortable editing the BIOS and running from the command prompt. Gateway tech support was less

PROS: My 6 year old Pentium 4 pc at 2.5Ghz was too slow to edit my new HD video footage so I upgraded to this new HP quad processor and the HD footage is now smooth and I have no problem multitasking by surfing the web, burning a dvd, and editing an HD home video. The pc never used more than 2gigs RAM even though it has 6gigs RAM. I love the standby button that Compaq and HP pcs have always had so it's always a quick 1-second to turn on and 1 second to turn off. The keyboard lights up when the pc's awake and turns off when the pc's on standby. Windows 7 is awesome. This pc has the AMD quad chip instead of the Pentium chip (which would cost about $50-$60 more) but because it can render HD video with ease, I can spend the $50 savings toward a nice dinner or a wireless keyboard/mouse. CONS: I wish the standby button was a separate button instead of having to hold down a FUNCTION key and the F2 key at the same time. Because the included Windows 7 is 64-bit instead of 32-bit, I had to

I just bought my HP Mini a few hours ago and it's going back tomorrow. I love HP, I hate the Windows 7 Starter edition they're putting on most netbooks. I looked everywhere and it doesn't allow you to even change the desktop wallpaper! So at the moment even my iPhone has more power than Windows 7 Starter is willing to give you. To add to my frustration I have USB flash drives made by Sandisk ( 2gb & 4gb Cruzer) which have password protected access that this "great" Windows 7 can't even recognize. The error message it displays says the drive letter is already taken by the computer or it is unable to assign any other drive letters. If you disable the password protection the error will subside and allow you to access your files on the flash drive........but you shouldn't HAVE to disable your protection if Windows 7 wasn't junk. They work fine on my Vista desktop & my XP laptop, so it's not them. Too bad, I love HP, but not Windows 7....will have to look for a XP netbook.

Part of a great bundle to upgrade your family's computers. Portable and easy access to the internet. Beautiful design of case. The battery life is short, but they give you a second battery.
