It sounds like this software "can" be great, but keep your operating system in mind. The software is claimed to "work with Windows Vista". This is clearly false advertising, as the software can work with SOME VERSIONS of Vista (32 bit), but not on the Vista that comes pre-loaded on most new computers (64 bit). So I would recommend avoiding this software if you are running Windows Vista 64 bit.

It's interesting...a few years ago, Encarta was king in terms of user interface, speed, and the atlas (content was/is pretty decent) while Britannica reigned supreme in terms of content, but the software was lousy. Britannica has since made great strides while Encarta seems to be slowing down (could this be the MS bloat-ware curse?). Encarta still wins on UI, but Britannica really is much improved - the UI is better, you can print whole articles, and the brainstormer feature is kind of interesting. But Britannica still needs work. It's hard to describe - it's just slow and twitchy at times - but not so much that it isn't useful. The atlas is still weak compared to Encarta, but that's not why we buy Britannica. Oh, and it runs well on Mac OS X. One final thought for Britannica - the online Britannica UI is actually slicker and slightly more intuitive than the software. Even so, a very good buy overall.

I have used previous versions and been pleased with them. But this 2009 edition installation has stopped twice on "installing... busansbo.ttf" and refused to continue. I can't find any "service" or "tech support" site. I suggest you continue using your previous year's version -- this one isn't ready for prime time yet.

Have used ESET NOD32 Antivirus v3.0 for a month on my desktop PC running Windows Vista64 SP1. NOD32 AV v3.0 contains integrated antivirus and antispyware components built in. Previous antivirus programs were Norton Antivirus and then Shield Deluxe. Neither worked well on my PC. ESET NOD32 installed with no problems and has not caused any strange behavior with other software. The best characteristics of this antivirus program are: 1. Operating System compatibility (interfaces well with Vista Defender) while using little system resources; 2. Speed is outstanding. I use a Dial-up ISP for internet use. Even the online updates are very fast and unobtrusive; 3. Unobtrusive during PC usage whether online or not. For me the user interface is easy to use and intuitive. I highly recommend this product.
A word of advice when istalling any new AV software: Remove all previous AV programs completely, then reboot machine prior to initiating a new AV install. Never have more than one AV program installed

The reviews here seem to divide into really love this product or really hate it. I'm in the really love it category. I needed to put together a website for my business, but I'm certainly not a programmer. This software allowed me to put together a very satisfactory website in a weekend with a few snags. The website has a dozen pages, hyperlinks, graphic, nice background/foreground color effects, and pdf download links - not real sophistocated stuff, but very satisfactory for my purposes. I've gotten lots of compliments about it spontaneously from users, and it has absolutely increased my business.
The several snags I encountered when putting this together required me to seek support from the manufacturer. Unlike some of the other posters here, I got email responses to my queries within a few days for each of the problems I ran into, and especially pleasing was that the suggestions in the responses promptly solved the problem in question each time. A few days ago I ran into another

The Encyclopedia Britannica 2009 (established in 1768), both in its Ultimate (now also called "Student and Home") and Deluxe versions, builds on the success of its completely revamped previous editions in 2006-8. The rate of innovation in the last three versions was impressive and welcome. It continues apace in this rendition with Britannica Biographies (Great Minds and Leaders), Classical Music (500 audio files arranged by composer), and a great Workspace for Project Management (a kind of friendly digital den). Generous 6-12 months of free access to the myriad riches of the Britannica Online complete the package.

I wanted to add a good general reference encyclopedia onto my laptop because I will be traveling overseas for two years and do not want to haul books or even extra CDs with me. And I am often not able to get to the internet for any general research. This product was loaded entirely onto my computer and runs very well with MS Vista. Britanica 2009 has good articles, illustrations, maps and diagrams. For me it is an excellent buy.

As others have said, this is the WORST backup software I have ever used. Here's my story, which sounds much like what others have experienced.
After a Vista crash the Memeo GUI appears telling me I have no backup plan (a plan was there before the crash). Upon the start of a recreation of a plan, the old plan was found on the external hard drive ... that's great, right? NO! The index had to be rebuilt, which essentially means everything is being backed up again. When I rebooted, the plan was gone completely. Memeo technical support has been no help so far, the only thing I can find in previous support requests was to start over.
Other drawbacks are the backup runs constantly, backing up on the fly. This is annoying because some files, which are not in use, are being backed up constantly. Also the balloon tips, which can't be shut off via the software appear incessantly - it was so bad I had to edit the registry to turn of balloon tips altogether.

I haven't had any problems with it; you can download a free trial version to be on the safe side. Honestly I don't notice any speed improvement, but then again the computer runs smoothly. I have had no viruses, spyware, or anything major. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is twofold. One when it fixes something, it won't tell you what it is. Not a biggie, basically I don't think I could understand the computer gibberish. Second, I brought Wincleaner because it is a much better cleaner than the one in Fix It. Overall, would I buy Fix It again; yes. Yeah you can get lots of freeware programs that are great, and do the same. However, I am old, and not computer savvy. This works for me and is worth the money.

Supreme Commander has forever changed the way RTS will be played, mostly due to its strategic zoom, but also due to its sheer depth of scale and strategy/tactic options (these pertain more to Forged Alliance than they do to the original SupCom). For those who are familiar with Total Annihilation, this game is a must have, as it surpasses what TA accomplished in just about every way imaginable. Be warned though, you have to be willing to learn with this game, as it forgoes the limited scope of games like C&C (all versions).
As other reviews have stated, pay attention to the system requirements for this game, and keep in mind that the minimum requirements will allow for little more than 1v1 online games at low resolution and graphics. However, many will find that the online 1v1 offered is some of the most intense and fast-paced multiplayer action available, and climbing the ranked ladder becomes addictive.
Among the numerous pluses regarding this game, two stand out in particular to me.

This travesty of a backup program came bundled with the 500 GB Buffalo Drivestation Combo external HD I recently purchased. Here are the problems I encountered with it.
- took forever to make initial backup
- auto backed up temp internet files while I was browsing, so I entered an exclusion and it stopped backing them up, but the next time I launched it, it started backing them up again with the exclusion still present
- after the first couple of days it stopped backing up automatically altogether
- limited options
- eats up resources, even though it claims not to
- buggy and error-filled operations
Autobackup sounds great in theory, if only it worked half as well as they claim it does. Unfortunately, it's not worth the CD it's printed on.
If you want a great backup program, check out Syncback http://www.download.com/SyncBack/3000-2242_4-10413802.html
The initial backup took a fraction of the time that Autobackup did, lots of options, scheduled or manual backups, backs up fast, takes

I have not used PDF software before and this was very simple to use. Now I can create PDFs, change text and use sticky notes and stamps.
The software is pretty cheap for what it does.

This game scored a 90/100 on the PC windows platform. the gaming sites scored it on the XBOX 360 at 50/100.
WHY?......because its got lots of technical problems. they may (hopefully) patch the bugs thru Xbox Live over the next few weeks or months. if they do....then it will be worth buying at that time.
Check out the big review sites(gamespot....1up) for yourself before you hand over your hard earned money.

Memeo Autobackup simply does not work properly. It does not work as advertised. I paid full price for the full version. Backing up Outlook mail files are completely HIDDEN. Found it anyway and turned it on and it STILL DIDN'T BACK IT UP!!! Thousands of files selected for backup not backed up. Customer Support / Tech Support is the worst in the world. I had to take a whole day off of work to deal with them and them they wanted me to take a second whole day off of work because their products sucks.

I found a ringtone maker that works with my phone. It's great. It's easy to use, you can play around with different effects, you can mix 2 different songs with each other... it's just an overall awesome program. It has pic and video sections too. Not played with those that much. I connect my phone to my computer with a USB (I've got a memory card), then just click the ringtones I've saved, that I want and drag them to my phone. Worth every penny.

Good product. Works very well on Vista. Articles are excellent. Brainstormer feature is outstanding. Atlas not as good as Encarta. It does not have as much functionality. Articles are much better than Encarta. Glad I purchased.

System Mechanic uses an unsigned disk access device driver (elrawdsk.sys) for its maintenance, and I wonder if that was one of the causes for a system breakdown that subsequently required a complete restore of my hard drive. The disk defragmentation is suspiciously fast, although my PC did seem faster. Internet Optimization appears to apply the same adjustments whether under XP or Vista, even though Vista has a completely rewritten TCP/IP stack. Spyware detection on my system led to a false positive. The Iolo website has no technical information about how it works nor an online support forum, which makes it difficult to know if it's actions are safe. ActiveCare will run only after 5 minutes of idle (minimum), where it would be better to run in the background at low priority (especially in Vista with its improved I/O prioritization), if automatic maintenance was the key.

This software slowed my machine to a crawl. Caused it to take twice as long to boot. Slowed down my internet connection, etc. Horrible software!
I emailed customer support for a refund but they didn't even bother to contact me. Bottom line--Don't buy or put this software on your computer. You will be throwing away your money because you CAN NOT get a refund and you will screw up your machine!

The software works very well in creating a cell phone ringtone. The company has been very helpful. I don't recommend buying this program or any other ringtone program if you are using VERIZON service. I have tried 3 diffent ringtone programs, they all created the ringtone, but I could not get any of them sent to my cell as a ringtone. I know all three companies are working on the problem, but it seems VERIZON has blocked the way for us to get any self-made ringtones loaded into our phones. This statement is based on the information I received at different websites, and my personal experiences.

I received this as a birthday gift and therefore did not get the chance to read the reviews. WHat a horrible unit! My Ned's Atomic Dustbin CD actually jammed up the unit two times! The first time I thought it was a fluke. The 2nd time I had to take the cover off and the CD was lying off of the carousel in the bottom of the unit. This thing is crap and it's going back tomorrow to Best Buy.
I'm very disappointed with Sony as my last Sony 5 disc player lasted 15 years without any problems!
