As a gps the unit functions ok and acquires satellites reasonably quick, the level of street accuracy is ok too. However there are some annoyances, firstly you have to obtain an ac charger to get the firmware update which is highly recommended. So I bought the ac charger and downloaded the firmware only to get an error message saying that "the update is not valid for my unit". So therefore with out the new firmware you cannot add map updates, which renders the damn thing useless in the future. Another pain is the buttons are located on just about every area of the casing, making it difficult not to touch one by mistake. Overall it functions ok but I think I will get a Garmin, as the issues are too much to bare. UPDATE: In my effort to update the firmware so that I can update the map I called support, big mistake! The tech told me to download and install firmware 1.22 over my 1.15, I was apprehensive as I hadn't gotten 1.16 to install on my device, but proceeded upon his advice. Well the update installed on my unit and then locked up and would not start, so I had to call them back and explain the whole thing to someone else only to get "oh well it must have been a problem with the firmware update, it happens", Erm no, it should'nt happen actually, I said. And was given a number so that I can return my unit for another at my expense of course. We'll see how long it takes to get a unit back. Am really wishing I hadn't bothered with the whole damn thing. I like the gps and some of its features, it's the support and customer service that let this company down. OMG. Beware, if you send back your unit for repair you will get a refurbished unit back that you have absolutely no history on. Magellan sent me a refurbished unit instead of fixing my unit, after five minutes of use the touch screen would not respond, so who knows how many hours of use the thing had? So that has been sent back to their "repair"(what a joke) center. Magellan have told me that I may get another refurbished unit if one is available or they may give me an upgraded unit. I said that I would prefer an upgraded unit after all the hassle, and a new unit at that and not some piece of junk that has been cleaned up and sent out, to which the technical support dude (another joke as they know absolutely nothing) just laughed at my suggestion. So who knows what the hell I'll get back. I will never buy another Magellan product. Update: After almost two months and calling the support line weekly Magellan sent me an upgraded Maestro 4250 (refurb) as an alternative, and the length of hassle they put me through. If you are thinking about a Magellan gps consider that if you have a problem. A) there tech support is a joke, the supposedly qualified technicians will tell you to use the reset button, which you probably already tried before calling the fool! B) They will get you to send in your unit at your expense and you will most certainly get back a refurb rather than fixing your unit. Magellan products are ok until they go wrong, and being that they operate on windows they will go wrong, so good luck.
