Gateway Laptop with AMD Athlon X2 Dual-Core Processor

We bought this laptop for our son because of the many features it had for the reasonable price tag. The laptop seems too much trouble however, even for the low price. First, the touch pad is just out of control. It jumps all over the place. Highlights when you're not trying to and selects without pressing the right click or double tapping on the touch pad. Very annoying.
Another thing, which is extremely troubling is the laptop's tendency to lock up when your press on the area on either side of the touch pad. The screen would become distorted and lock-up, forcing you to shut down with the power button, which is not good. Too much trouble to keep.

Gateway NV52 .I think it'a fair deal for the price range. It is too slow to boot windows vista and shutdown.IE Browser was also too slow to get started .Loading applications takes time. The trackpad is tricky. The display is good and the touch buttons are cool. The DVD read write is agin slow.

I have had it for almost 6 months now. Seems to never give me trouble but for of course being hot, well all laptops get hot. I use firefox and loads fast and works just great for me. My system I have not tried burning a DVD but a conventional CD-R burns super fast. Had a choice of this or a Sony vizo (lost cost ones are not so good) but chose this one over it because of the additional ram and hard drive space. My budget was 500 and i hit that mark mostly dead on. Plus tax made it 42 bucks more but not to big of a deal besides could mod this with that money.

I think alot of the problems with the original review stemmed around Windows Vista. I experienced like problems on a completely different system. Recently purchased this computer from Best Buy and had the Geek Squad perform Optimization. It starts up in a matter of 15-25 seconds and is ready to go. I'm very impressed with it's speed. However, it is running Windows 7, so I think that has something to do with it.
