This is a great set of speakers if you are looking for a portable way to listen to your mp3 player without using headphones or earbuds. (Remember you have to turn up the volume on the mp3 to at least 80% of the maximum to get the best input to the speakers, but this is typical for this type of product.) The sound quality is excellent and surprisingly powerful for such small speakers.
As you can expect from Sony, the design is attractive and very user friendly. The on/off and volume control is very accessible on the top of the left speaker and this is also where the adapter plugs in, if you want to use it. The right speaker holds the 3 AAA batteries (not included). I like that these speakers come with an AC adapter so that you aren't forced to burn through batteries if you are near an outlet and prefer to just plug in. Sony even designed the speakers to "lock" together if you need to move them around. I think this is a fantastic product that looks great and sounds great.
If you are looking for something even more portable, another option is the Altec Lansing iM207 Orbit speaker, which also has good sound quality for a small device. However, in my opinion it is not as attractive as these Sony speakers and you also give up the stereo effect of having dual speakers. The Orbit also does not have an option to use an adapter instead of batteries.
