Perfection V750-M PRO - flatbed scanner
Pros: Accurate Color, Easy Setup, Good Bit Depth, Good Resolution, Sleek design, Widely Compatible, Works on Network
I am a professional Architectural and Landscape film Photographer. I was unhappy with scans I was getting with 4x5 and 8x10 transparencies with the only two pro labs left in town. The old Epson went up to 4x5 and did a decent job but not good enough for print. This new V750 rivals what I can have done professionally in town with large format. Particularly with the wet scan capabilities. It won't replace a pro drum scan, but with the Internet slowly but surely running the magazine industry into the ground there is less and less demand for print all the time.<br ><br >It does a great job on scanning photos.<br ><br >It does an Ok job on scanning 35mm not batched, but scanned separately with much larger target dimensions than original size, which is what happens when batching. The scans are not good enough for print but look great on a website.<br ><br >The Epson software has not changed in 6 years??? But is quick and easy to use, the Silverfast software that came with it I would not use, archaic to say the least.<br ><br >For those of you who have large format libraries, and like me still shoot that silky smooth thing called film, I would highly recommend this machine. An Architectural 8 x 10 transparency scan attached shrunk down to a JPEG of course, you be the judge. Besides it makes the coolest sounds!!!

Perfection V750-M PRO - flatbed scanner
I bought this scanner a couple of years ago to do a high-res 35mm (Kodachrome) slide -> digital file conversion. I also bought it because all of my dad's slides (shot 40+ years ago) are on the verge of useful life. He also shot medium format with a 5x7 Kodak and a speed graphic. The 35mm slide to digital worked great, and two years later, I'm finally started the main project. I downloaded all the new drivers and Silverfast Ai updates (though the V750 now appears to come with SE), and installed it on a dedicated 2.6Ghz core2duo (4GB dram, hooked up via USB) machine. Works great. I'm doing 35mm negatives right now, and while it took me a while to dial in the focus, I'm very happy with what I'm getting. Excellent detail in the shadows (I believe the Dmax 4.0 claim), and believe I'm getting the 4800 dpi I'm scanning for. (I know 4800dpi for color neg is a waste, but the detail from the Kodachrome conversion I did a couple years back makes me a believer.) 9 minutes/frame@4800dpi with ICE@high-res. Silverfast allows color reversal with dozens of types of reversal film masks, with individual control (gamma, color, ICE, resolution, orientation, etc.) over each frame. Then you just batch scan the entire holder. (A word about the film/slide holders. They're made of polycarbonate, and feel flimsy, but I've found polycarbonate to be pretty strong stuff. No complaints so far.) I have not tried the Epsonscan software that's also included. I would buy this scanner again (as a film scanner) in a heartbeat. It would be a waste to buy this scanner as a normal reflective unit (and it does work that way). But if you want to scan in archive quality negs/transparencies for preservation, this is an excellent buy. (I will update this review when I start doing all of the medium format stuff.)

Perfection V750-M PRO - flatbed scanner
I replaced a UMAX Powerlook II with the Epson V 750 Pro. This is an excellent scanner for working as a stand-alone scanner to do copies or OCR into Microsoft Word. The scanning capabilites are excellent and it will work thie the SliverFast or EZ color utilities (trial versions)that are bundled. Setup of the scanner went exceptionally well on the first try- far easier than some of the others that I have owned. This scanner has the ability to do transparencies, negatives, and x-rays which is a real bonus versus the slower Nikon one-slide-at-a-time scanner. My only comments about the scanner is that Amazon ships the scanner by putting a UPS label directly on the box. The first scanner that came by standard UPS looked like it was dropped on one of the corners and was returned. The second scanner was ordered via overnight and arrived with two corners caved inwards and was refused. Finally, I got smart, paid the $3.99 for gift wrapping (blue bag) which meant thatt the wrapped scanner had to go in a larger box with padding. This one arrived without a scratch. Unfortunately, this ordering and returning becomes a problem. I don't understand why Amazon would ship a delicate electro-optical device and expose it to damage in transit.

Perfection V750-M PRO - flatbed scanner
The Epson Pervection V750 Pro is a good scanner. What I can't figure out is the instructions for the software are generic so they may be talking about features that are not included in the paticular software purchased. For example they talk about how easy it is to calibrate the scanner's color. They refer to a bar code printed on the 4x5 transparency included. The 4x5 included with my scanner did not have a bar code. I had to go to a web site and down load the calibration file. As usual I think the owners manual was written by and engineer and never test driven by someone unfamilar with the operation of the software. I'm no dummy and have been using PhotoShop for 15 years but their directions definately have room for improvement. The users forum I found worthless. Hardware is good but suport and software directions stink.
