Very nice laptop

I have had this laptop for several weeks and so far my only complaint is that the screen is going blank sometimes for no reason, otherwise I am completely happy.

The number pad on the side is really a great set up and having the volume controls on a touch screen over the keys is really cool, no worrying about finding the right keys if the sound goes really loud during a movie, etc. I also like having a place to put camera cards directly in the computer!!

Great laptop, great display, excelente for movies

Good computer, easy to used, but it cames with many hp applications that there are not so useful. It takes like 3 or 2 minutes to start but it is very good. The display is excelent is very good for movies

Great Computer!

The components for this computer were absolutely fantastic for the price! The processor is fast and you get DDR3 memory even though the hard drive is small and there is no video card. If you aren't using the laptop for gaming, then it is perfect.

I loved the laptop. I'm a big fan of HP stuff. My home computer is an HP and I absolutely love it. My old computer was HP as well and it still works after many years. The laptop was at a very reasonable prize and was shipped at the exact date of its release.

Great Laptop for Very Reasonable Price

Extremely easy to get started. Layout is great on the screen and great quality. We love Window's 7.
Very Quick processing and easy to set up internet, etc...
No complaints here, we really enjoy this new laptop. Very light and easy to travel with for business or to class.

so far the best laptop I have

WE owned a total of 4 laptops, all bought at Best Buy. And there all HP's. We have one that we got last year around june and we still love it. Than about a month a half ago BB and HP came up with a 14.1" model (dv4-1428dx) for 500.00bucks and we could not pass I chase it until I found one it was the last in our area, it has been incredble, how it performs for that price the only thing is that beacuse of the amd chip it runs hot but we put a fan under and that is that. Up to this laptop I saw the info. on it on the front of the BB ad the week it came out and I could not believe the price and features and looks on this machine what a bargain this machine is incredible, fast, elegant and is not fair to compare it with my "cromie" one cause this one came running 7 and the chrome one came with vista and we are still waiting for our upgrade from Microsoft. I can tell you if you find one or two like we did buy it. It has ddr3 memory instead of ddr2 and it is a more efficient system that way.You  more

Great laptop for the money

This is actually my first laptop purchase, I am a desktop type of person. But decided to try a laptop since they have increased the RAM and drive space to see if I would like it. This laptop exceeded my expectations, and I haven't had any problems with it. Windows 7 came installed on it, which I am pleased with also. Overall believe that HP computers in general are great deals.

Awesome HP Laptop

The HP Pavilion Laptop (entertainment pc) is awesome. I wanted a relatively inexpensive laptop with all the bells and whistles of the more laptops and I got it. This machine is fantastic, with Windows 7, and it was easy to setup and get running right out of the box. You could read the full description of the product online, so I won’t bore you. This HP has everything I wanted in a laptop pc and some things I did not even think of like a switchable on/off pointing device, which is useful when using a mouse and indicator lights for CapsLock and NumLock next to their respective keys. There is also a “touch-sensitive” volume slider and mute button. The built-in webcam and integrated microphone work great. I also purchased a Logitech wireless mouse, which I am reviewing separately, and Microsoft Office Home-Student version. Pick up at my local Best Buy was painless, but I did have to wait at the Customer Service checkout for 10 or 15 minutes. All-in-all, a great buy and excellent  more

Good Overall Product

This computer has everything that the normal, everyday user needs for a very reasonable price. Perfect for common tasks such as e-mail, Internet, bill paying, and organization of pictures and music. Windows 7 is very user-friendly.

Now...this is an HP laptop you would expect.

I returned the G60-549dx model (price $429) after only 3 days. I upgraded to this model. If you are considering the G60-549dxl, go read my review from 11/11/09 for that computer. Best Buy was great about the return and I upgraded to this model for an additional $120...money well spent and worth every penny. This HP is what you would expect from HP and is 200% better than the G60-549dx ....much faster, quicker at loading pages and software and even sounds much better.
About the finger print and smudges, it's like owning a black car that looks like a million bucks when it's clean and shinny, but will need a little more care to keep it this way....This black computer is just like the black car and needs a little additional cleaning. I don't mind cleaning it if that's the only complaint I have. I found if you wash your hands before using you have very few prints, but if you are eating chips, cup-cakes and hotdogs and have greasey hands you will make a mess on this black comnputer or any  more

Great improvement over HP with Vista. Love it.

My company IS guy liked the way Windows 7 allowed installs and found it to be much easier than Vista. I have yet to transfer my files to my new HP, but really enjoy the accessibility of what is in it already.

Great computer for a very good price!

Excellent product for a great price! Up untill now, I haven't had any problem with it. Before buying this laptop I searched for weeks for the best configurantion, nice design, good price... and choosing this one was for sure the best choice.
Screen size, brightness, windows 7, 1.3 webcam and sound are great. HDMI port is also great. I liked very much the touch buttons (Volume, Wirelles). Very stylish!
What is not so great is that this it gets finger prints easily (not a big deal for me). Also, the weight is a little havier than I expected but overall weight is good, not too heavy for a 15.6" size laptop.

This Computer & Windows 7 are perfect match !

Initial set-up was a cinch and no software incompatibility problems and no 'stalls' as of yet, after almost a month of use. All the frustrations with Vista (as was on my previous laptop) have disappeared with Windows 7. Separately purchased a Nano 450 wireless lazer mouse and it smoothly installed with no 'dropoffs' ever since, and installing all previous backed-up files from internet was also a breeze. The 4 gigs of RAM are great and like the fact of being able to upgrade to 8, but, so far, the 4 is totally adequate. Great laptop for the money and highly recommend !

Best Choice for Cost/Performance

As stated, loaded with Win 7, the start-up and performance has improved. It has a clean overall look and everything worked right out of the box. I have high expectations with this laptop since my last HP crashed due to a mother board problem....my first and hopefully last. This is my first experience with 64 bit so time will tell as to the outcome. But overall, the first month using this machine has been satisfying, and I am well pleased with the preformance and cost per features. And if it is an indication with my HP printer and customer service, help should be excellent, to include no language barrier.

It sucked

It had a virus when i bought it at the store, I would not recommed it. Best Buy prices are great but the notebook was a headache. Try ANYTHING but the notebook. The macs look great!!!!

Best Laptop I Have Ever Owned

Great Product & Value

This laptop is great! I haven't had a single problem with it and Windows7 is easy to use and understand. I got the laptop as soon as it was available in October and I haven't come across any issues. I even bought an HDMI cable so I can hook it into my tv. Now I can watch Hulu, NBC, CBS, (you name it) on the big screen tv... it's great!
Screen size, brightness, and clarity is great. Also, the overall weight is good too - not too heavy - very portable.
The worst thing I can come up with is that this laptop gets finger prints easily. Not really that big of a deal... HP even provides a little cloth to wipe the laptop down to remove finger prints. But if you're really really picky, the fact that it finger prints easily may bug you.

Great Value!

Everything works as advertised, Internet pages load quickly, Windows 7 works fine. Would have preffered it came with back up disks. Battery life is only a couple of hours. I would recommend this computer especially for the price.

Jury still out on this one!

this is the second one of these laptops. the first one died exactly one week after initial boot up. this unit is now on it's second week with no apparent problems. this laptop is easy to use, nice appearance, and has all of the features one would need. the integrated number keyboard is especially handy and one of the reason i chose this unit. i just hope the reliability is not indicative of the first one i tried. best buy replaced it with no questions asked. hp online help chat was worthless.

Good computer with problems

I've been on the phone with HP Tech Support trying to fix the program for over 5 hours. They don't seem to have any clue what the problem is. One tech told me the problem was that the automatic updates HP has weren't compatible with the HP system. Another told me it had to do with the optimization software Best Buy uses. After a complete system reboot and recovery, I am still experiencing the same problem. I am now working with Best Buy to get the computer exchanged. This seems to be a recurring problem with this laptop.

I had an HP before this laptop and never had any problems. I am hoping it is just a small glitch but....

Great value, but be prepared

This computer is the least expensive I could find with this fast processor. Combined with the 4GB of memory, 64-bit Windows 7, integrated webcam with microphone, and HDMI output (items you have to upgrade to typically) you cannot beat the value. The keypad can put your right wrist at an awkward angle, which may just take some getting used to. I am having the same issue as a previous reviewer in which the screen will go completely black at varied times in different situations. 5 times the screen went black in 5 days of ownership and only a restart can bring back the screen which means you could lose your work. Through some research, it appears this is a common problem with some HP laptops, so much that HP has extended the warranty for some. I will contact HP soon to get the problem diagnosed, hopefully it is an easy fix, but if they are not helpful I will need to return the computer.

Great deal for this computer. Windows 7 64bit, 4 GB of memory; you won't find a better deal right now, and I have tried. I actually returned a Samsung that had just shipped, for this computer. Very happy with the purchase..

GREAT! Lot of Bang for the Buck

I work in Geographic Information Systems and needed a decent laptop that wouldn't cost $1500 bucks and found this gem. HP is a solid manufacturer with a name you can trust. I was able to obtain a laptop that not only looks cool but has: 4GB RAM, 64bit, Intel Duo-Core @ 2.2 ghz, 350gb hard drive, Windows 7 for under 600 bucks. This is a solid computer folks. If you're a gamer don't buy this machine as it has integrated graphics (which by the way should be fine for most engineering and GIS work as long as it's not heavy in 3D).
Runs smooth, great display. Couldn't have asked for more for the price.

Good spec laptop for the price

After looking for a new laptop to replace my aging Dell Latitude, I decided to wait until after the Windows 7 launch to get in on the new OS. I'm glad I waited. My budget was $600 but I knew there were going to be tradeoffs. In the end, I made a wise choice. This laptop packs a decent punch in the hardware department and oozes class with it's glossy cover, touch sensitive controls, and beautiful screen. However, I did have to spend a couple of hours removing HP's custom software and spent yet another couple of hours creating restore DVDs. (to reduce costs, HP opted to not include any restore discs) If you're willing to overlook (or, frankly, don't mind) the limited HDD space and don't plan on running any graphic intensive programs, this laptop is an awesome deal!

Not perfect, but a decent computer!

Good deal for the money, works great if you don't tinker with it too much.

No windows 7 disk means you need to reformat to original setup if there's a crash. I did find I could create a new partition with Win7 and store data there that will not be deleted if I have to re-setup. I tried to duel-boot with my original xp disk, but it crashes before xp loads. My old DOS programs won't work in Win7 (not HP's fault), and I couldn't get my usb winTV to work. The lid needs to be open to stream video through HDMI.

I like the HDMI and the video streams great to my tv, however the graphics are slow with 3d games. I didn't have any dead pixels, everything worked great both the first time I started it and after I did a system restore. You can make restore disks, or restore from the hard drive (about 13 gigs are used for a restore partition).

Great deal for the price

Great deal for the money. I like the touch volume, mute, wifi on off buttons. Great size, It has a good size screen and keyboard without being too bulky. If you like to stream video over Wifi it has short battery life.

Great Laptop with an AWESOME price!

I have to say that this is a great laptop. What makes this so great is the price for what you get. I contacted HP EPP and they could not beat this price. First, they stopped making this model (SO RUN AND GET ONE BEFORE THEY ARE GONE!) The comp model they suggested straight from their site was over $100 more than this one. Of course I would loved to had integrated bluetooth and the ability to add in a Wireless N card but those can be easily overlooked with the price. If you are on a budget and need a great computer...this ones it!

Problems with Screen / Slow to Load / Pictures

Taking this laptop back after 6 days. The screen cuts to black during operations and you have to close the lid or reboot. This happened at least six times in six days -- once during registration, a few times while on the internet, a few times using MS programs like Works. Despite its processor and memory, it is slow to load programs. After a few days, I cleaned out a lot of the preloaded "stuff" to see if that would improve speed, but it did not help. System uses Windows 7, and I tried to open some pictures with the media card reader, but it was slow and hard to manage. I don't know if this is just my laptop, HP, system configuration, or Windows 7 -- but I am getting my money back even if I lose the 15% stocking fee. Really disappointed with this performance and quality. I reloaded from scratch, and no difference. If this worked like it should, it would be an awesome laptop at an awesome price. If it worked like it should....

Best laptop I ever had

This HP laptop really made me happy. I bought it to my mom but now I'm considering to keep it. Screen is awesome, very bright and good size. Speed is good too. Good memory (4GB DDR-3). If compared to a mac 15 in, weight is 1 pound heavier, screen has not resolution of 1400 x 900 but gets close, memory has not 1000mhz of bus, but at least is DDR-3 and 4GB, hard drive is similar. The great difference is the price: for this HP you pay ~600 and for mac you would pay ~1600... If you have that money to spend, I would recommend the mac + windows 7 which is awesome. But for those who want a great and cheap laptop, I definitely recommend this HP.

this computer is a good one for its value, best investment specially in this time. i had to go to 3 different locations to get it and drove over 50 miles to get it.

Great

This is a great Laptop for the money. I have really put this machine through the paces and it has not broken a sweat. I like to multitask with many different programs running. This HP had not had any problem. The fan has not even came on. I have an HP DV4 1220 which has almost the same specs with the exception of it having a AMD processor. The fan is always coming on. I have monitored the processor during high peak and on the this computer it hardly ever gets above 40%. Great

Amazing Laptop for the Price

I have had this lap top for a week, and can't get off it! I did a lot of research and then waited for the laptops to come out with Windows 7. Based on pre-windows 7 prices, I figured I'd pay more, and get mediocre specs. Then behold this HP laptop at this price with these specs and Windows 7. Educate yourself regarding the specs you should have in good laptop and then read these specs. On HP's web site, the price for this same laptop/specs is $180 more. Other laptops comprable to this one also about $200 or more. Spoke with many of BB's sales people over the months. They are all terrific, patient, and most importantly knowledgeable. What a breath of fresh air from the Circuit City crew!

Are You Kidding? $549?

I upgraded from buying the HP G60 on 10/22 for this DV6 model 10/25. Are you kidding? $549? $549?!!!! For only $50 more you get better (DDR3) and more (4GB) memory, better processor (Core 2 Duo vs. Dual Core), and a huge design improvement. I was surprised I didn't look into this model sooner, but it wasn't on display. This laptop is one of the most beautiful out there... but it will show smudges easily. Nice design touches, even the lid lights up 'HP' on the outside! Above the keyboard is a touch sensitive pad for muting/adjusting volume, and turning wireless on/off... great!!! Perfect for the coffee shop! FAST! Bright screen, excellent audio it is so crisp and highly detailed! On the downside, there is a lot of 'bloatware' on this laptop - you have to uninstall quite a few programs. After everything was setup I decided to change the wallpaper and 'center' it - it wouldn't work! Has great graphics, webcam is excellent and high quality, had for 2 days and much better than expected, definitely worth price, everything about this laptop is amazing and I do not regret my choice and buying it.

Had to get it!!!

I had an compaq presario prior to this and it worked pretty well for my purposes but the processor crashed on me while windows vista was installing updates last month so i had to try out a windows 7 laptop. Everything about this laptop is beautiful so far and it runs like a dream for an internet browser i recommend google chrome. But this laptop is just awesome value and 4gigs DDR3 memory cant be beat i highly recommend this one.

Bought this Laptop the first day they offered it at Best Buy. Planned on buying another brand and changed my mind at the last minute--I have absolutely no regrets whatsoever. And it looks and feels like it is going to last--which I hope for because I Iove it!

Great for the Price.

I picked this laptop up at the store on October 22nd to replace a four year old desktop. This is my first HP laptop and so far I like it. Performance is good for the price but the battery life isn't that great. If you plan on taking it out and about make sure a power outlet is near by. The laptop is super quite, the fan has rarely kicked on and the bottom is barely warm. Overall I am happy with my purchase for the price. My only complaint is the battery only last about 3 hours.

Great Laptop for the Price

I just bought this Laptop at the store yesterday. Great deal for the pice. I have no complaints about it. And its pretty fast as well. My last laptop crashed on me, so I bought an exterior hard drive since the hard drive space on this one was low. But I really wasn't concerned about the hard drive space. I shopped around a lot before I decieded on this one. I found that Best Buy had the best price for everything you get with this computer.
I'm satisfied.

Pictures do no justice!

Of course I have only owned this laptop one day so this is not a long term review. However, my intial thoughts are singing nothing but praises. The laptop looks so much better in person than the pictures on here show. There is a lot of detail that simply does not show up online. The cover and the inside have a very nice design and the thing lights up like a spaceship!

The finish is piano black (high gloss). If smudges and fingerprints bother you, look elsewhere, or be prepared to keep the included microfiber cloth on you at all times.

Windows 7 also makes this a great buy, and it boots up very quickly. Having owned several HP products, I fear little over the longevity of this laptop, but will update my review if my thoughts/opinions change later on.

Just got it yesterday... but I was pleasantly surprised. Very fast computer with a nice display. I shopped around and this was a great value for what you get. I also got free next-day shipping which was a plus. I highly recommend.
