Multimedia with Laser Trackball and Scroll Wheel GKM561R - keyboard
Pros: Durable, Easy Connectivity, Ergonomic, Fast Connection, Versatile
I had been searching for a keyboard/mouse combo that was wireless and small. I have tried several other models that were just too small, or too big, or just didn't combine a mouse function into one unit smoothly enough. This unit is perfect for working remotely. I don't have to worry about all the wires and a separate mouse. Easily connects; no problems after a week of full time usage. The multimedia functions are awesome too.

Pros: Easy Connectivity
I returned this keyboard after using it for half an hour. The trackball is horrible -- all but nonresponsive -- and the keyboard itself is poorly set up and quite flimsy. I could find nothing good about it.

Multimedia with Laser Trackball and Scroll Wheel GKM561R - keyboard
I've been programming with this keyboard (computer sits 3 to 6 feet from keyboard depending how I sit) for a few months now (8+ hours a day). It's never missed a key stroke(like I read before purchasing) and I've been very happy with it. It types nicely (using it right now, in fact), and is a bit "clackity", but not nearly as loud as the default dell keyboards. I ditched my other keyboards in favor of this one. The backslash/pipe key is in a funny lower right position (but fine once you adjust), and I still like my old mac-book pro keyboard the best. All that said, great product, especially for the relatively low price! Oh yeah, trackball does feel kind of cheaply made, but works well.

We like the light, space-saving design which includes a cool trackball mouse so we can recline on the sofa while surfing, streaming videos or listening to music. I agree with other reviews that the left-side mouse buttons are a little difficult to get used to but I can see why they designed it that way. When you have two hands to use it's really not much of a problem but who wants to put their beer down every time they wanna click on something? Suggestions for improvements - side scrolling would be AWESOME and if the trackball itself could be pressed as a left-mouse button then there'd be no stopping it! All in all we like it a lot - way better than the full-sized wireless keyboard we were using before. So far the batteries seem to be lasting longer than expected considering how much we use it!

I bought this to control my living room PC media center and its great! The trackball takes some getting use to but it works good. The auto sleep function is great for saving battery (just touch a key and it comes back on) The range is great works all throughout my living room. Def a perfect solution for a media center PC

The design, feel, trackball, range, size, and overall look of it is great. The problem is There is no support driver so right from the beginning the mouse was jumping around my screen like crazy. I had to google around for some support because there is absolutely no customer support on this product or number to contact. I really like the keyboard and want to use it mainly for my media center. I finally found a driver for another similar keyboard and used that so my pointer stop jumping around. After a week it would start started acting up again and would selecting everything icon instead of just one. By then I was already frustrated. The scroll stopped working properly and customer service wouldn't work on issuing a replacement. I'm not a computer illiterate so I did spend quite a bit of time on-line trying to find a solution on the issue. From possible sticky keys to hardware incompatibilities.

This is everything you would want in a wireless keyboard... unless you want a "great feeling" trackball. That said, the trackball being "adequate" is the only thing that hardens this review... otherwise, I would be gushing. I did expect a little more solid trackball design for $50. This is a great keyboard.

Multimedia with Laser Trackball and Scroll Wheel GKM561R - keyboard
I purchased this keyboard about 9 months ago. I am happy with it's performance, especially for the price. I purchased this hoping it would work for both my PS3 and for my Win XP HTPC. I use a kvm (for keyboard and mouse connectivity only) to connect to both devices IOGear 2-Port MiniView Micro USB PLUS KVM Switch with Audio and Cables GCS632U. I have full functionality in Win XP, internet buttons work, even has a sensitivity setting for the trackball. I use to change between the PS3 and the HTPC. I use my TV's HDMI selector to select between audio and video streams. This keyboard works well for watching movies, browsing int, etc on the PS3. Pros: 1-cheap 2-long battery life (using for HTPC 5 hrs a day) batteries are lasting about 6 mos. Batteries would likely even last longer if I turned the switch on the keyboard to "off". This unit does so well on "no battery use standby mode", I choose not to even use the "off" switch. After maybe 10 min, the first key you touch is not sent (as it turns the keyboard back on), but then the next key is sent. 3-small (about half the size of a standard keyboard) Cons: 1-for PS3 sometimes you need the "PS button", some newsgroups say this is the windows key (or ctrl + esc), this is not working on this keyboard. I have to press PS button on the controller (or I turn PS3 off then back on to get to home screen) 2-trackball got dirty after about 9 mos, this is not easy to remove, must disassemble entire keyboard to clean trackball. 3-rubber strips on sides of keyboard for grip came off quickly; works fine without them though. In all I'm satisfied, better than I expected for the price, much better battery life than expected.

Multimedia with Laser Trackball and Scroll Wheel GKM561R - keyboard
I bought 2 of these for very limited usage. One is still working fine, one died after about 3 months. I've read in reviews that many people have the same difficulties where once you click down on the mouse button the curser acts like the old asteroids hyperspace button and jumps to another place on the screen. Since it does this when you click the mouse, it's common for it to click unpredictable locations of the screen, such as close window or whatever it happens to randomly hit upon. Also you can't remove the trackball for cleaning and it begins to start sticking within the first week or two. I'm moving on and will NEVER BUY ANOTHER one of these IOGear boards again. This thing is absolute JUNK! IOGear, don't bother appologizing and asking me to send it in for an RMA. Last time I was closing a project and asked to save my work it hopped over to NO after I clicked on YES and erased my work. I proceeded to crush the piece of junk into 10k pieces and discarded it into the trash where it belongs. Good riddens, never again.

Construction is good, does what it is suppose to, range is excellent for what I use it for (Home Theater PC) and I am actually writing this review on it because my laptop is sitting on the table in front of me off. I hooked an old laptop with a broken screen up to my living room LCD TV and put it behind it, put the USB adapter into it, ran a VGA cable from the laptop to the LCD TV, and bam, everything works great. I can get all the online shows, netflix, hulu, and the like and can even write amazon review too it would seem. The device is exactly what you need: keyboard and mouse all in one for the living room. Battery life is an unknown but if you keep it cut off unless using it, so far so good. I do not know if it cuts itself off without use (like a timer) but I make an effort to always turn it off when going away so it doesn't use them up needlessly. One thing that would make it easier is for it to have a mouse button on the same side as the trackball. You can do the "move mouse" then reach across to the click with one hand but having a mouse button the same side would make one handed use easier...this does not take away from the device but more of a wish list for future devices I guess. All in all it gets a perfect score because it does exactly what it is suppose to do and does it without any issues that I can find so far. I have noticed a missed key every-so-often but even in writing this long review I did not see this happened. It is very rare that it drops a keystroke and may be due to the angle I have the old laptop behind my TV...yours may never drop a letter. Love it, would buy again, the device is hands down one of the best solutions for a full size keyboard/mouse HTPC (living room PC) that I have seen or found and for the price point it can not be beat.

Works great, mine wakes up from sleep if you either press a key or move the mouse, seem to have good range as well. Installed on a Win7 system with no extra drivers needed only had to pair keyboard with dongle. My 12 yr old thinks its cool so it cant be all bad!

Multimedia with Laser Trackball and Scroll Wheel GKM561R - keyboard
I have a Macbook hooked up to my plasma hdtv and I needed a wireless keyboard without a separate mouse. This works perfectly. Set up was a cinch even for someone non-techy like myself. It's a perfect size, not as tiny as the mini keyboards but not as huge as a full keyboard, but definitely bigger keyboard pad than what's on my macbook. So for me it feels perfect typing for as long as I want. It has a nice space on both sides of the keyboard to grab it. It has a nonslip bottom for putting it on my glass coffee table. It's sexy as hell too, and looks sleak perfect for my stylish living room. The track pad right with the click buttons on the left took a quick second to get use to. But it does feel right. It feels like a game control. There is a perfectly placed scroll bar as well on the left side of the keyboard. My boyfriend and several friends all love this thing. The off switch is great to conserve batteries, though I wish the the button was on the top of the keyboard instead of the bottom of the keyboard, but that's a miner issue. Keys feels firm and steady to type, for reduced sounds for heavy typers like myself. I have a Macbook so finding something compatible is hard, but this works perfectly. It doesn't replicate the macbook key functions though. Like it doesn't have the command, option or control buttons. Not a huge problem but it would be nice. When the keyboard is off, I just slip it in the side of my couch between the cushion since it's so thin. The media buttons seam to work nice for volumn, stop and play etc. All and all very happy with this purchase. Almost didn't buy it because of people's complaints that it was flimsy and the trackball was crappy, but I have no idea what they're talking about. I'm the clumsiest person on the planet, so I look for sturdy well made things, and this is definitely well made and feels solid, including the trackball.

Works great right out of the box no software to load just a USB to plug in. Great range and easy to use .

For this price, go buy it. The trackball rolls smoothly, even though it's not "refined" like perhaps a more expensive model would be. I have no problem with this device when I'm on my HTPC, it has great range, does not miss a keystroke. I've had it a month and I use it irregularly, but I'm still using the batteries that came with it. I give it 4 stars for the key layout, which caused some mistype goofs. However, if I had the option I'd rate it 4.6 stars. Don't tell me that I should round up, I don't think it's a 5.

Multimedia with Laser Trackball and Scroll Wheel GKM561R - keyboard
I needed a wireless keyboard-cum-mouse that worked at a distance of 7-10ft from my computer+TV and the IOGear keyboard perfectly fit the bill. The installation was a no-brainer and took less than 30seconds to plug-in the dongle and start using the keyboard. Keyboard is smaller than standard keyboards, has smooth keys and works perfectly well without dropping any keystrokes from a distance of 9-10ft. Heavy users of Windows Media Center (unlike me) will find the multimedia keys on the keyboard really useful. I have three minor complaints with the design: (a) Once-in-a-while the trackball feels a bit loose in its socket which can be a minor discomfort. (b) The left/right mouse button and the trackball are placed on the opposite ends of the keyboard which means that both hands are needed for operating the mouse. This could take a while to get used to but is not really a deal breaker. (c) Pressing the multimedia keys directly launches the windows media center and I haven't yet figured out how to disable this. Also, the volume buttons on the keyboard work only within the media center. Overall I am satisfied and would have given a perfect 5 to this product if not for those minor issues.
