Purchased this TV for a guest bedroom yesterday for $499.00. Easy to set-up, great picture in 1080iHD, sound quality is average and many inputs.
No problems with burnt out pixels. (At least not yet.)
No problems with High Voltage hum or whistle. (At least not yet.)
My wife likes it so much, she wants me to buy one to replace a 32" Sony
(4 years old) in the kids play room.
I would recommend it to anyone looking for a 40" for under $500.00.

I have had two sets after returning one due to a minor problem. But I am very happy with this TV and can't imagine getting a better TV at this size for the price.

PICTURE. Overall the picture is great, especially on stations that broadcast good HD reception. Colors are rich and the picture is smooth and clear. I think the picture may not have quite the sharpness or black-level depth as some more expensive sets, but no one will notice the difference unless you are viewing the TV side-by-side with other brands. The picture does wash-out somewhat when viewed at an angle and may not be the best pick if you have angle seating. I also think it is a little strange that the Hue adjustment disappears from the video menu on HDMI inputs.

One important tip about the picture. Make sure your cable box is set for 1080i output! For several days I had left the output setting at 720p since my prior TV was 720p. When I finally changed the output to 1080i there was a very noticeable improvement

I bought this tv 3 days ago and the total price after taxes was $534. The TV has great pic. quality at a low price. I was impressed with the size and the beautiful black outer edge (looks sharp and clean cut). Also, there is no buzzing after the TV is turned off as some people have stated. There are no signs of red dots (dead pixels) anywhere and the sound is great as well. The remote is a liitle out dated for the TV, but it works. Thanks Best Buy for this great TV at a low affordable price.

The TV is sleek and sharp looking. The picture quality is honestly great. The sound is good. I have no problems with any of this. A 40" 1080 for 500 bucks - huge steal. I have a 47 LG and a 42 visio - I consider myself somewhat of a LED TV buff. As I said, the TV is great except for when you turn it off. There is a very high pitch sound that comes from the right side of it... high pitch enough that I describe it like a dog whistle. Faint but loud enough that in our bedroom my wife and I were kept awake. Faint but loud enough that I have woke up unrested and with headache. This was the deal breaker. It makes me rather sad because such an easy thing to fix during the development of this TV and they didnt fix it. They know this is an issue. It is reported all over the sites. I knew about it before I purchased but thought maybe people were being too picky. They werent. It is so annoying that I just took it back and returned it an hour ago and settled up for a 32 inch smaller LED rather than

Our living room TV with out a couple of months ago and I've been very hesitant to purchase a new one because I wanted the "best bang for the buck" and wanted to learn a little about HDTV and what was out there. We have a great 19" Samsung in the kitchen and I was leaning toward another one but the large price tag was making me procrastinate. I saw the Proscan 40" come on sale for $499 and I was intrigued because this is the size I needed to fit in our entertainment curio. There seems to be a big deal between 60Hz and 120Hz but with the 5ms response time and 1080p you really can't tell the difference except the price. I've watched about every type of sport (football, golf, track, tennis} and I can't see any blurr? The picture is beautiful and the remote is simple and functional with enough adjustments to fit your taste. If you want to waste a lot of time and money, go ahead. I would buy the Proscan with the 4yr warranty and forget about it. If you notice when you go into BB you won't see

I got this Television two days ago, and I am in love with it. I recently had a 19' COBY that burnt out after a year of having it. I went to Best Buy expecting to be able to afford a 20-30' maybe. Then I saw this amazing television. I have it hooked to my surround sound, my xbox, my computer and my digital cable. It is a fantastic T.V, for an amazing price. I am a glass half empty type of person, and I am horrified it will burn out or something in a month, but so far, it is absolutely incredible. My cousin saw it set up in my room, and went out and bought himself one as well.

The high pitched tone has me concerned. I have had the TV for nearly 3 months, but I justed noticed the sound yesterday. It is subtle. The room has to be totally silent to hear it, but I did hear it from across the room and wondered what the heck it was. I went over to the tv and there was a definite "tone" from the top of the back of the tv. But I don't know if it has always been there, or just recently started, because, again, it is subtle. The funny thing is that when the tvis on and the sound is muted, it goes away. Called Bestbuy geek squard and they will come out to my house for free and service it.
But at this point, I don't know if they will be able to fix it or what the end result will be.

Everything about this TV is excellent. The only issue I have is since I like to channel surf during commercials, I must always put in the "code". My other TV's turn off the function when the code is entered until the TV is turned off.

Well if your looking to get a cheap lcd 1080p then that's EXACTLY what you will get. I have had nothing but problems with it. Ive had it for two days and so far it has dead pixels all over. Not to mention it l looks horrendous compared to "name brand" lcd's only a hundred or so dollars more. Do yourself a favor and do a day or two of research on the web and save yourself the aggravation. And it's not just me being sour about my set, check out the other reviews here and elsewhere and draw you own conclusion. Highly NOT recommended

Have been shopping for a new LCD TV for awhile now. We couldn't believe the price when we found this one (it was on an awesome sale). We watched some old DVD movies we've had on the TV, and noticed that we were missing a lot of details. This TV shows everything perfectly! Love the fact that we can FINALLY hook everything up (Wii, Playstation, computer, surround system) to it and enjoy it all by clicking from 1 remote now. We couldn't believe it had 3, yes 3 HDMI ports to it! It also automatically switches screen resolution to accompany different computer programs when being connected to the computer. We are thinking about purchasing another one at it's great sale price right now. Friends and family are jealous of it-hee hee. ;) Looked up the Proscan name online-found that it's a company under RCA. Definitely recommended!!!

The Proscan 40 " LCD TV is the greatest value on this planet for a 40" LCD, I have been shopping around for 6 months, you know, just looking and never buying kinda a thing. I saw it and it looked great there. Took it home and it looked better in my home! Why...because I bought it and now I can watch it in my house not at Best Buy! Very easy set up and very user friendly! Get the 4 yr. warranty for an extra 69.00...hello. A perfect fit to my house and maybe yours, but at 499.00 they may not last!

I just purchase the ProScan 40" yesterday for our master bedroom--$499 at BestBuy. Setup was easy and took about 10 minutes to view outstanding picture--quiet a bit better than the picture on our main set--Panasonic 53" HDTV. There is absolutely no buzz or audible sound after the set is turned off--as some of the reviewers experienced. This may have been corrected-my set was manufactured in May 2009. Good full HDTV for the price!

I really like this proscan lcd 40"..I do hear the high pitch noise when off if i'm sitting to the side of the TV. I've been reading many comments about this but i decided to keep it, the noise is not that bad. My 1st 40" full hdtv and yes i'm very please with this product. Not the perfect TV but very pleased with price and performance. I was not expecting a tv at this price to be this good.

When I first purchased this unit I was highly sceptical because this TV is basically half the price of its competitors.

I was pleasantly surprised by the picture as it is of a higher quality than my 55" LCOS, 50" DLP or 42" Sony LCD. The contrast, brightness and colors are great but require a little fiddling depending on your room conditions.

The sound is nothing spectacular as one would expect from two 8 watt speakers.

The connectivity options on this TV are numerous and in great locations.

The only real problem is that there is a distinct buzzing noise when the TV is off due to the transformer coils bumping together at 60Hz due to low quality components (there is a lack of resin in the coil which keeps them from bumping). But since most set top boxes and amplifiers have switched outlets just connect it to that so whenever either of those is off there is not power to the TV and thus no noise.

I purchased this TV about 2 weeks ago. I must admit that I was a bit curious because the price was so low but after buying it and taking it home, I was very impressed. I connected my Comcast HD box on it and it works just fine. The picture and sound is excellent. After reading the reviews on the loud noise, I was expecting to hear it but I haven't so far. I did purchase the 4 years plan to cover any problems that may occur but as for now, this is an excellent choice of TV to purchase. At first, I didn't quit understand how to program the remote, but I figured it out. I am so happy that I decided to purchase this TV. Thanks BestBuy!!!!!!!!

I've had this tv for about a day so far, and I will be sure to update this if I have anymore thoughts, or if any problems come up.

Pros: As mentioned above $500 for this is an insanely good deal. The picture is amazing for the price, and with the HDMI and component ports so easily reachable, its very easy to connect or disconnect anything. I have it hooked up to my laptop, DirecTV HD, and Xbox 360. I have no experienced any buzzing sound, or anything like that. Watching Blades of Glory off the laptop right now, and I see no ghosting, artifacts, or anything like that. Tried Halo 3 earlier, and after adjusting the color settings slightly, I was very satisified with the picture. I haven't watched much HD tv yet, just a little of Conan O'Brien and Animal Planet, just to try out the tv.

Cons: The speakers aren't the best, but who really listens to the stock speakers on a HDTV anyways? If you are serious about HDTV, you should have a decent stereo. It seems like the tv should

I recently took on the project of redecorating my bedroom and was contemplating the idea of buying an LCD HDTV. I have to be honest and say that I didn't have a clue as which tv to purchase or the technical specs. I came accross this TV at best buy and I thought it was too good to be true. When compared to other LCD TVs in the same class the price for this TV was dramatically lower. I decided to do some research and get more info on the brand. I arrived at the conclusion that the only major difference between this unit and the more expensive ones was the Price.

I decided to go ahead and buy it, being that I only needed a TV to watch television and it would be hooked up to an HD reciever with an HDMI cable, which I found out I would be needing by reading the customer reviews. The TV looks great, the picture quality is amazing, and the sound is fantastic. I was a little worried about the high pitch sound many of the reviewers were complaining about and I have to say that I haven't

I previously had a 27" Proscan TV purchased in 1996 and was very pleased with its performance over the last 13 years. So when my old TV finally served its time, it was an easy decision to make the upgrade to the flat-panel 40" version. I loved the unit; its lighter weight than the CRT and the picture quality. The only annoying feature - as others have reported - was the high pitched squeal that occurred when then unit was on standby. After 2 weeks of this madness, I returned it to Best Buy where they tried to replicate the problem at their service desk. Unfortunately they could not and stated that the problem may have been with my surge protector. I exchanged my unit for a new one and purchased a high end surge protector. Once I set it up at home, the problem went away and I felt whole again. Well worth the time and effort. There's no other 40" 1080p on the market that can beat this price.

I was looking at smaller sets because I was sure I couldn't afford something this big. Saw the price and was sure it had to be junk, but saw the very good rating and read the reviews and decided to take a chance. It wasn't available at any store within 150 miles so I couldn't go check it out in person, so it really was taking a chance. Turned out to be a good one! Best Buy also waived the $70 delivery fee since I had no store to go to to pick it up; I had it delivered just before Father's Day for my husband and he can't say enough good things about it (and he's in the broadcasting business so he's very picky). If it's still at this price or better around Christmas I might buy another.

I saw this tv going to be on sale over a month ago on another site, then realized bb placed it on sale for the same price at the same time. So I purchased tv from best buy in order not to have to wait for it to be shipped. Great picture ,hooked up to digital HD reciever with HDMI to HDMI 1080p great pic. Tweeked the sound component and sound is awesome. Before tweeking the sound I was agreeing with the other reviews. Lots of connection ports. NO humming sound coming from tv. Maybe try turning off the cable box first then the tv(just a suggestion). Perfect Perfect Perfect. Proscan purchased RCA years ago. RCA were decent tube tv's. Plus there's only three manufactures of LCD and Plasma's anyway..I LOVE IT...

Have been holding out for years on a flat panel TV, waiting for the prices to finally come down within reason. Came across this little gem, and I thought it was too good to be true. Thought there was no way that you could get a 40" 1080p LCD for under $500. Not without it being worth anything. So I went to the store to have a look. It looked just as good as some of your name brands. I was close to being sold, but not yet. Still wanted to know more about it. So I searched them out, to find out that ProScan used to be RCA's high end equipment back in the 90's. They have now sold the name to some other company, called the ON Corporation. Now I felt there was no way that I could go wrong with this TV, as long as I got the Geek Squad warranty to back me up.

So I went to the store and picked one up, after two hours of fishing wires through the wall so that I could hang it on the wall, I turned it on and have been in love ever since. Standard digital cable is a little grainy, but that

I just wanted a cheap tv that played HD. So this one was perfect. I got it home set it up and couple days later I played it and out of no where the sound went out. Turn it off turn it back on it was fine for the rest of the day. Then I went to watch a movie and I already found a dead pixel, So unfortunately I'm going to have to return it and go to a more reliable company. Proscan seems to be going the right track but they need to improve on their quality before anything because now their just hurting their name. I really did like this TV though the picture was great size was awesome but Im to worried about something else going wrong with it. I found their website if anyone is curious it is...

http://www.oncorpus.com/Product/LCDTV/19LB30QD.htm

Maybe I just got a bad one because I did read some good reviews on here but I'm just thinking that people did what I did got it played for little and it was awesome but after some use I found its flaws. Hope this helps

I was blown away when I saw this deal for $579.99 on BestBuy.com. I went out that day after reviewing TVs for months and bought it. The first thing I noticed about it was the sound, which is remarkable for a flat screen LCD. Best I have heard yet, even against the Sony and Panasonics. The picture quality is great and ******IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A GREAT VALUE ON A BUDGET, GET THIS TV*****. No bones about it, don't waste the extra couple hundred on paying for a TV with a couple of letters that spell "Sony" or "Toshiba".

Then, I found that the TV went on sale for $499.99, so I called in, got my credit and now I am an extremely happy camper. Couldn't have pictured a better scenario for this investment.

The Good:
Setup was simple, most cables were included except HDMI and component. On-screen setup is very intuitive and takes just a minute or 2 at most.

Picture quality is good, looks great with an upscaling DVD player connected via HDMI.

Sound quality is just "ok". When I watch movies, I use my Yamaha receiver for sound, so I'm not too concerned with the TV speakers.

I've been shopping LCD TVs for a couple of years now, watching for a great deal. All things considered, this is a good value. What else are you going to get, with comparable features for less than $500? Yeah, if I had an extra $300 to $500, I would go for a Toshiba, Vizio, or Sharp Aquos, but I don't. I did spring for the Black Tie Protection/Warranty, which was an extra $70. It covers everything for 4 years and includes in-home service. If the TV is unrepairable, it will be replaced with a comparable unit.

The Not-So-Good:
There is a very annoying 7.7khz (approximate) high-pitched

I was wanting a 40 inch TV but realized that they cost more than I was going to be able to spend. Then I saw this TV and then it was on sale. I didn't see a difference when looking at other 40 inch TVs at best buy so I decided to make the purchase. Very happy. I have not had any concerns. I can't really add anything to what has been said by most reviewers. Wife likes because remote works from anywhere unlike our previous TV. Basically, my thought is, why pay more.

I was excited to read great reviews on this TV. You can't beat the price and the picture was decent.... I was just looking for a budget TV for my bedroom. I brought it home and as soon as I turned off the set, a very subtle but annoying high pitched noise came out of the back of the TV. I was thinking maybe it was the TV cooling down... I was wrong.I left for work with the high pitch noise and came home to it as well.... back to best buy it went and bought samsung they had on sale for $300 more.... with the financing... COMPLETELY the right way to go over proscan.

Two tvs ago, we owned a RCA Proscan that we were very happy with and after several years, we replaced it with a big screen. Gave the Proscan to our son when he went to college. He was delighted, (the tv had many, many features). It lasted a lot of years and probably would have lasted more with less moving and unpacking and packing. Bottom line, we weren't hesitant at all with the brand name and that's what prompted us to feel comfortable with the purchase (plus, the price was almost too good to be true!) We put it in the living room of our second home and someday it may end up in the bedroom if we decide we want something else, but for now it is great.

I read the reviews for this and most were positive so I went and bought it. It was easy to set up and it had good clear picture, but bad color and sound. After a few hours of play on my Xbox360, the screen started flashing black, and the audio was cutting in and out. This TV is a real gamble, I would go with name brand if I were you. I wouldnt recommend this tv to anyone, I returned it and got a 32" Insignia for only 380 and its a much better tv.

Ok so, I have done extensive research on different tv products, HD tvs, etc. and on paper this tv looks great in the specifications. However, the comb filter (a chip that takes normal standard definition signals like 480i/p and even the 720i/p and upscales them to 1080p so that your tv can actually display a picture on the screen) is an older model and is not up to par compared to almost every single other model of HDTV. If you need further clarification you can choose to compare three LCD TV's through Best Buy's website and then look at their speciifcations and look at the comb filter section. You can click on the word and get a further explanation of how it works.

What does this mean? Well, most tv stations are changing to "HD" but that usually means 720i/p and not 1080p. Almost all cable companies say that broadcasting in 1080 is just too expensive. Which means unless you have a satellite provider that broadcasts in 1080, your tv will have to upscale the picture. With this tv's

I bought this tv two weeks ago. Out of the box it worked great. after about a week the sound started to go out. Then the picture went out. I took the tv back today and got another one. I thought could have just been a bad tv right? Wrong. Second tv won't even turn on. I'll never buy another Proscan tv.

I browsed ads weekly waiting for prices to drop, waiting for the right opportunity to get a great deal, and it all came together finally this week... when my wife told me that there was a 40 inch full 1080p HD set for under $500 I couldn't believe it... well it was and is true and this TV is great... hooked up the DVD and Wii and I just can't believe what I am seeing from a $500 set... The TV stand was already attached to the TV as well (didn't get that luxury when I set up my mother in law's Vizio)... I plan on ordering the 32 inch Proscan online this week for our bedroom!

Bought this TV a week ago. Replaced a 26" flat panel.

The TV is great as a primary TV (living room/family room) but if you're a light sleeper, this TV will be a problem in the bedroom. When the TV is off (in standby) it makes a high pitched whine. It's not blatantly noticeable, you have to listen for it - but once you've heard it, you'll be able to hear it all the time.

This TV seems to recognize the type of signal being put in and adjust to give perfect display. Can't beat the price either at $500. VGA at 1440x900 worked great, too.

I bought this TV a little less than a week ago and wow! I couldn't believe the quality for this price. Like some of the other reviewers here I didn't know much about the Proscan name, but I did some research and you can read what I found along with some other tidbits at http://shopeonarope.blogspot.com/. I looked at this TV in the store next to some units at nearly double or more than the price of this, and I was blown away by how comparable and next to impossible to discern a difference was.

I received this TV as a gift but I did the research on the product. I always weight my options. I found this TV at BestBuy and they truly live up to their name. I set it up in a matter of minutes and customized it to the settings I desired. The units main purpose is to support my PS3 which plays stellar on the television as well as AT&T's service, I must add. It has a slick look and the only reason I wouldn't recommend this product to a friend is because I want to be the only one with the it. In conclusion I am very content with the product and glad I found it on bestbuy.com.

This was purchased as a gift for a family member. I was not impressed with the picture even after adjusting the color and clarity. We have 3 other LCD's of different brands and price ranges and all have much better picture quality. However, the family member who got the TV as a gift was quite pleased with the TV and its simplicity. If I had to do it over again for this price range, I would buy another brand.

I've only had it a week, but this TV is awesome! I was searching for a good quality 1080 p HDTV for months, but wanted a deal on a decent size for my bedroom that wouldn't break the bank. I came across this deal for $499 at Best Buy last week. I was leaning toward a 37" TV I saw somewhere for $597, but it wasn't in stock. So I decided to give this ProScan a try after reading the reviews on line. I couldn't be happier with my TV. I'm just waiting for my HD cable box to come, but hooked the PS3 up to it and watched some HD movies. Awesome picture quality! I agree with some of the postings that the sound isn't the greatest, but it works fine in my bedroom. I may try the external speaker hookup just to see. But overall, this is a great deal. I wouldn't pass this one up. If you're in the market for a good quality, inexpensive HDTV, this is the deal for you!

I saw this TV on display and thought it looked terrific, especially for the price. I ordered one and then began to read the reviews which caused me some concern. Not so much for the image quality, which I could see was excellent, but for the fact that many said you could not switch the image aspect ratio from 16x9 when watching a standard 4x3 image. This is partly true. When watching television or anything else using the HDMI connection (and probably component, but I did not check that) the image is locked to a 16x9 aspect ratio. I was worried that all of my old TV-on-DVD titles were going to be stretched to fit the screen. Fortunately, I found a setting in my Blu-ray player that allows for image correction so that everything plays in the proper aspect ratio. If you are watching television using an antenna or the composite or S-video settings, you can switch the screen aspect ratio to fit the image. As far as image quality, I can not complain one bit. Blacks are deep black, and that has

This TV was unpacked and operating in about 15 minutes. Easy setup, so far I've only tested direct to cable with QAM tuner. The connections are inconveniently located on the back, in a recess, and pointing down so you can't see them. There are no side inputs. The video setup is easy, I found the user mode to be the best. Good picture, color and contrast. There are no problems with the sound, Quality is normal for a set of this price, basic stereo with no surround. The remote works ok, but the buttons are small and require multiple pushes sometimes. I can't find much info about Proscan but [...] gave a two year warranty. Overall a good value for $[...] plus $[...] S/H.

I have bought this TV for more than a week. By watching the high quality movies (480i or heigher), we can see how excellent the picture and sound is.
It is like watching a movie in a theater. The feature is a little bit weak.
But overall the price is worth for this quality.

I had not heard of Pro-Scan until a friend reccomended this TV to me. The price was right and 40" was the right size for my living room. When I got home, the hook up was easy as could be. In no time I was hooked into
my local cables HD signal, and watching the sox game immediately. I was amazed at the crisp, clear resolution. You could see every blade of grass! Truely amazing picture, and the surround sound was booming. I've since watched Top Gun and the jets feel like they're in the room with you! My Xbox 360 is amazing with the HD signal. Call of Duty, and Gears of War have never been so fun to play. Amazing TV!

If you are like most people this year who want to be a little more cautious of where your money is going, believe me you wont be throwing your money away on this TV. This HDTV is probably the greatest purchase I've made this year. I did my research both online and in stores and after comparision, opinions, and reading reviews I realized this was it. I purchased the 4-year warranty plan that was offered for $69.99 as a precaution and was blown away by the total; a great 40'' 1080p with a good warranty for only $619! Setting this TV up was a breeze, I believe it took me around 10 mins max. The picture is great, use HDMI cables and you will experience the full clarity of this set. As for the sound, the TV speakers alone seem fine to me, but I can't deny the difference in the viewing experience after hooking up external speakers.

I Purchased This Product About 4 Weeks Ago and I Still Can't Believe I Got This TV For Such A Great Price. The Picture and Sound is Great, It's Very Sleek Looking, and I Would Recommend This Television to Anyone. My XBOX 360 Looks Amazing on it ( Especially Fight Night Round 3). Honestly, Don't Hesistate On A Deal Like This. You Will Not Find Another TV This Size For This Price And This Quality. I'm Actually Thinking About Buying Another One. So If You're Looking For The "Best Buy" Out There, This Is It.

Have been shopping for a 32" for around $500 and saw this at the Best Buy store, the picture was excellent and the motion blur was almost not noticeable, could not see any difference between the $900 - $1,100 TV with the same specs as this TV. The contrast is 10,000 : 1 not 3,000 : 1 as listed with Best Buy, BONUS. If you’re looking for a really good TV and don’t mind not having a name brand then you found it

Good TV for the money, looks sharp even when turned off because of the high gloss front bezel.

Had been looking for several months for the "deal" to happen on a 40-42" LCD, primarily used for PS3 gaming. When I saw Bestbuy launch this line of TV's, I pretty much knew I had found it. Not real sure if ProScan is still the high-end RCA stuff it used to be (10 years ago when I worked for CircuitCity, it was), but I can say this TV has a great picture, great cabinet (piano black finish), and great sound, especially for an LCD.

Only drawback to the TV so far has been the cheap remote, but I am digging to even criticize that.

Over all, I'm very pleased. We bought this T.V. after doing alot of research. I wanted the most for my money. I was willing to pay more for smaller but when I read the reviews and went to multiple sites everyone overall, seemed to say the same things. - I always like to know what I'm getting and to be ready for the issues if there are any.

Brought the t.v. home- set up was EASY! literally just pulled it out of the box, plugged it in and wha la... picture was perfect. I did go through and change the sound to "speech" made a significant difference. I can see what people mean by the speakers aren't the greatest but the location I have my tv it works just fine.

I really do recommend this tv... especially if you want the big screen without the BIG Price! I don't think you will be disappointed at all.

Bought this as a replacement for an office TV and I wasn't expecting the pinaccle of picture quality and features in a no-name tv. But it has almost all the features (lacking PIP) as my 1800$ LG tv. Same input and outputs, the picture quality (with a little tweaking) is excellent, and the sound seems good to me. I couldn't be happier with this purchase and the price.

I'm taking a gamble, since I didn't get the extra warranty. It seems Best Buy is sending people back to the manufacturer anyway. My biggest concern is if it will last, but for the price and the great value, I couldn't pass it up.

When I read the excellent review on this Proscan, I was a bit skeptical. So I decided to do what others did based on Best Buy's money back guarantee. I had nothing to lose. After I connected the TV and seeing the picture quality, now I am not surprised why people returned their Samsung and other brand name TV after buying this one. My aunt didn't want to buy one until she saw the quality herself. She's going to get one now.

40 inch, 1080p and many input options makes this a great value. Depending on the source material the picture ranges from decent to pretty good but not great and while it can be tweaked in the menus don't buy this expecting samsung or pioneer quality for such a low price. I hooked up my laptop through the vga port to play videos and the picture was crisp and noise free as was the picture from my xbox. I watched game 7 of the stanley cup finals in 1080i and it looked pretty good but I had to tweak my settings a little to clean up the picture.

Some people complain and I noticed that there are minor issues with black levels, blue tint and noise artifacts but those are picture quality sacrifices that you're making for the price, size and 1080p resolution. Of course, since electronics do fail 20% of the time within a year or so do yourself a favor and buy the extended warranty.

We were looking for a new HD television and saw this one on sale and couldn't believe the price. We weren't thinking of buying it yet then we saw another buy one and so we decided to go for it. The price was so good we couldn't resist. Works well for a first timer buying a new HD flat LCD screen television.

We bought this as a second TV for our bedroom, so it is not our main TV. We were going to get a Sony, but for $500, we couldn't pass up this Proscan, and since most of the reviews were really positive we went for it. For some reason, I can't get it any higher than 480p, even though it is a 1080p TV. Probably user error! We don't have the HDMI cable, so that might be part of the problem. However, we are on DISH network, and the plug in's don't support the HDMI connection. So far, the screen and the sound are just fine. If this was my main TV, I would have gone with the Sony, but for a TV in the bedroom, this works. Time will tell though, so we did buy the extended warranty for 4 years for $69.

the picture looks great.

the price is great

There is a constant buzzing/beeping when the TV is off. The TV must be unplugged to stop the noise

i called Best Buy about this, they said even though i bought the 4 year warrenty, id have to call the Pro Scan people if i wanted to get anything done.

I will most likely be taking this back

Ive owned this HDTV for about a month so i have had time to notice issues, lets start with, when you connect a device with an hdmi cable such as a blue ray player, it seems this issue is when using the DNR setting that helps clean up the overall picture, you can notice a faint line through the center of the picture, I'm observant so i notice this stuff quick, anyway, turn DNR off, no faint line, annoying. next, when the TVs off there's a hissing type sound, so if its with in 10 feet of your bed, move it or unplug it, lets move on, i was playing a video game for like an hour and the sound cut out and i had to turn the TV off then back on, what else, when you watch TV, DVD blue ray, anything, sometimes the ratio is locked in, like wide view only and there's no zoom , cinema or anything, there's no way around it, this HDTV is just built that way, one more thing, when i switch from like hdmi, component, composite to TV, sometimes i get a black screen w/ audio of whats on that channel so i have

It would have been easy set up if the manual was written orderly. The cable wire you attach to the TV should be in the side. The manual shows the hole for the cable looks like at the back of the TV. This caused me confused because I tried to follow the manual and look at the picture of the manual.

The remote control is horrible. When I put the batteries in the remote, the top wont close. I had to take it back to Best Buy and 4 different people were tried to close the top. The big guy who tried it very hard and push the top harder then the top finally closed. When I set up, it is very slow when the TV scan the channels.

And then the remote control wasn't working - the button channel to go up and down wasn't working. I have to re-set up the TV twice. I guess overall it's a good TV for the price. But I can tell this TV is not made a good quality compare to the other brand names.

I put this TV in my bedroom. When the TV is off, a red light goes off. I hope I will

After seeing all the impressive reviews on this TV, I went to Best Buy to see it for myself, walking down the wall of tv's, most of the screens looked the same. This was the only set reasonably priced, the other "big brands" were 3 or 4 times the price of this.

After getting this home and setup, took about 10 minutes. Stand came pre-attached, doesn't swivel. There is a 1st time walk-though. Once the pic came on, i was wowed. From regular broadcast to movies to sports to HD, the picture was perfect. No dead pixels. No jitter or lag. The sound is perfect for me as well. No need for external speakers.

This TV is 60hz which is just fine, 120hz is a marketing ploy, don't fall for it.

My only real concern is long term reliability, will this TV continue to work 2, 3 or 4 years down the road. Make sure you get a heavy duty surge protector, hear in NY, we are getting thunder and lightning quite a bit. I also opted for the Squaretrade 4yr. Warranty.

This was a great price, but it has an annoying high-pitched sound that I can't ignore. I can't really notice it with the TV and sound on, but I can hear it when the TV is off. I know it's not my ears because I hear it only in the room with the TV and when I unplug it, it fluctuates then stops. It's so bad I have to unplug it when we're not watching it.
We are going to be trading it in for another brand.
The other thing was "ghosts" with stuff like letters, and sometimes with movement. Seemed to be a problem with other TVs I saw on display, sometimes even with 120 Hz TVs, so it's definitely not a problem with this particular TV>

I have never seen proscan LCD before So my first impression is good. Decent Picture quality and decent sound. Picks up lot of channels with ATSC tuner and external powered antenna. Lot of inputs for my needs.
But beware of reliablility. Most of the review here are probably from people who used this model only for few months including me. Get extended warranty. Otherwise this is an excellent purchase at 499.99$. I opted for 3 year squaretrade warranty with onine coupon code.
BTW: comcast remote code is 0178 for this TV

Got my security deposit back last week, and the first thing I did was go to Best Buy to find a TV. Now, I've been deal searching for months now looking for the perfect TV. I came across this on DealNews.com when it was $550. Checked out and compared the specs to other models, and found that this TV has many of the same specs. Plus, it's 1080p, which is very nice. Setup took literally 5-10 minutes, and I was up and running. Standard TV looks good on this, but the HD is where it's at. Make sure you have an HDMI cable (we had to learn this the hard way and go out and buy one), since there are 3 HDMI ports.

Like a previous reviewer, I found that the vocal sound was a little quiet and sometimes faded in with the background noise. I changed the sound setting to Speech, and that seemed to do the trick. I also hooked up some computer speakers to the headphone jack on the TV and the sound is great.

Saw the $499 deal, read the reviews and had to see this for myself. I have a semi-dedicated front projection home theater and wanted a flat-screen to use for short periods of TV watching. It's not always worth the work to fire up the projector. I'm picky about displays, but also knew this was a secondary set, so I was willing to compromise.

Surprisingly, this does not feel like a major compromise. If you're super-serious about video and this is going to be your primary display, it may not be ideal, but I would argue you would need to spend about 3 times as much on a new LED-based flatscreen to find something noticeably better.

It doesn't have a ton of features, but enough for most people. Plenty of inputs. Running my Xbox 360 at 1080p through HDMI actually made me laugh a little at how good this looks.

I don't know much about Proscan's quality or support, so I did opt for the care plan. At $70 for 4 years, this TV is still a steal. By the way, I got an open box

Maybe this is just a bad unit, im using HDMI inputs, from directv HD Receiver and blu-ray player, the picture is grainy on both, The sound is pretty good compared to other TV's in this range. The 32" Dynex 720P had a better picture, especially this Proscan being a 1080P resolution, Made several adjustments but picture still didnt impress me.I have to admit, that the sound surprized me compared to other TV's, but I use a seperate sound system anyway. Was a good price for this TV, even had a 4 year extended warranty for $69, and I usually dont buy those.

I think the TV is a great price and has awesome picture and descent audio. I compared it to all the major brands and think the TV is better than the ones that are twice as much. The only compliant I have is the people's voices are pretty mellow compared to the background audio. I still totally recommend the TV over any other TV.

I got this TV for $579.00 and it looks just as good as ones costing as much as $1200.00. I was really amazed that this RCA brand was so good. The setup was easy since there were no corrections in the picture or sound configuration. There are several presets that are adequate for 99% of us end viewers to choose our color preferences. I use this television as my computer monitor much of the time and it's native PC screen resolution of 1366x778 is perfect for me to view all of the programs I use. When I switch to using it as a display for my Blu-ray movies; WOW! is all I can say. The sound quality is the only negative I found, but connecting to my audio system took care of that, so no real problem. So, do yourself a favor and get one of these as this great price. You'll not be disappointed.

This LCD TV is a bang for a buck. It has all the features main LCD TVs have for about half the price. It's a full DTV and can be used by itself after the digital transition with no problems. I also really enjoy the user interface on the TV. Highest resolution is 1080p and it looks amazing. It has an optical digital output and can decode Dobly Digital through it. As far as I can tell, the value of this screen is just as good as bigger companies. There's no doubt that TV is a good deal.

My only disappointment is that the controller is line of sight. Not a big deal, but can get annoying sometimes when you have to aim it right.

If you're a fan of low price products with the same value as higher priced, don't hesitate to buy this TV.

We've been looking at LCD TV's for our family room but the prices were too high for our budget. While shopping at Best Buy for another item, my husband discovered this TV. Although at the time they didn't have one on display, there were several in boxes. We read the specs and opted to take a chance on this Proscan TV.
It was incredibly easy to hook-up and when we turned it on we were "wowed" with the brilliant picture. To maximize the quality of our viewing, we purchased an HDMI A/V cable for hookup. We couldn't be more pleased with this TV. You can't go wrong with the price. Absolutely a Bargain for such a nice LCD 1080p TV.

Was amazed with the quality and price. Purchased the extended warranty since the price point made the warranty 33% less than the original price. Went out for a 32" glad I came home with the 40" for the same or less $. Sent the family to the store to get themselves one as well.

I cannot believe this is on sale for even cheaper than we bought it. The price is amazing for the tv, which explains why we got the last one from our local best buy only a few days after they got their shipment. Everything about this it is perfect for the price and the piano black finish makes it look a lot nicer than other tvs in the same price range....overall you cannot go wrong with this purchase

I read other reviews on this model and decided to give it a try, as almost every person had nothing but good things to say about this set. Like almost everyone else, I agree this TV is a great deal for the money! Picture quality is very good, piano black case looks great, features like 1080P make it a steal. I just bought it 2 days ago for $579 and now see that they have it marked down to $499 (WOW). Other than having to go back to get my $80 credit...I have nothing but good things to say about it. The people that commented on the sound quality not being that great....who uses built-in TV speakers anyway....surround sound is the only way to go! Don't be afraid of the price...it's a quality television that you will be happy with....$500 bucks for a 1080P 40" flat panel...come on!

I had been looking for a TV for some time and when I saw this online, I thought (like everyone else) that you would get what you pay for. I went to Best to check out the TV and compare it to some other ones. I honestly couldn't tell a difference between this TV and some of the other ones up to about $1500. You could tell a difference between this and some of the upper end TV's, but I didn't have $2000 to throw down on a TV. I shopped around some more at other stores, and decided I would get the Proscan. I brought it home and set it up, and every time I watch something in HD, I am amazed. It is really clear and there isn't any blur for sports. I also hooked up my Xbox 360 using the component cables and the picture was amazing. I would recommend this to anyone. As far as the sound is concerned, we use a surround system and not the TV speakers.

ProScan... Who are you and where have you been all my life? It turns out ProScan is a trademark owned by a popular TV company RCA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ProScan).

I have shadowed this product for some time know and since the purchase, I must say I am impressed. I had also thought about purchasing the 42" Dynex that is on sale, but after reading the reviews I opt-ed out.

Additionally, I went to Best Buy a few times and was taken by how the picture quality compares with other top of the line LCD TV's.

Bottom Line - This is the best 40" LCD TV under $600, and you might as well buy the geek squad 4-year warranty for $99. Also buy a high quality HDMI cable, and a nice Surge Protector to ensure best picture and safety of your product.

No complaints here...

Basically The High Definition Isn't All That Hot, Its Real Snowy Like And When You Use The Noise Reduction Setting It Causes A Faint White Line Through The Picture, Just Enough To Annoy You. Some Channels You Cant Zoom Or Anything, Which Is Weird, Ive Had 5 Other HD TV'S And You Could Zoom, Use Cinema Mode All That, Not This TV, Other Then That The Basic SD TV Channels Look Better Then Most, There's A Time Display Button, Sleep Timer And Wake Up Timer To Turn The TV On & Off. Basicly The Dynex 42inch Looks Good With HD Blueray & The Snowy Affect Isnt That Bad Either, This Proscan HDTV Is The Oppisite, Poor HDTV And Ok SDTV

I promised myself that if I could ever find a good quality 1080p HD tv for under $600 I would buy it for my sister. I have always felt a little guilty owning 2 Samsung's and the poor thing was still using the 27 inch Panasonic I bought her in 2004.

I saw this PROSCAN on the Best Buy website, and although the name rang a bell I didn't know much about it, so I started to read the reviews. They were amazingly good, so I took a chance and picked one up for my sister.

The store didn't have one on display but I took a chance. Others have mentioned the 30 day money back warranty, so I will add that when I saw that the extended warranty price was only $99 for 4 years Black Tie, In Home Service, I took the chance and brought it to her home.

From out of the box to first viewing took less than 15 minutes of tinkering and setting up. The PROSCAN doesn't have all of the submenu's that my Samsung's have but so what; she'd never use them anyway.

The basic adjustments

I purchased this TV after returning another tv that had screen blur when i played xbox games on it. This tv was a lot better than my last and it was even cheaper! I got it on sale and would suggest it to anybody in the market for a TV for games or just TV and Movies. You will not be dissapointed. Like i said the sound could be better, but for the ammount of money you are saving over other 40 inch 1080p LCD's you could buy a monster surround sound. Or maybe just hook up the one you have already.

I have shopping for an HD Tv for while now and I really did not want to spend a lot. I saw this TV at Best Buy and was really amazed by the price, especially with the specs offered.
When I went to Best Buy to look at the TV, I was still hesitant about buying a non-brand name TV, but when I got there, they had this TV sitting next to a Toshiba HD TV with the exact same specs (for a lot more money) and I really was not able to tell any difference in the picture quality between the two TVs. I actually switched channels on both of them to see if maybe different colors would look better on the Toshiba, but they both still look great.
I bought this TV and brought it home and I am very happy to have it.

This TV has a crisp picture and a very nice sleek design, also on alot of flat pannel tv's the sound isnt so great, well that isnt the case here, the sound is clear and is great for games movies and just watching tv.. When i went to Best Buy i was looking to spend about 500-600 dollars. I figured i was going to be able to buy about a 32 inch tv or so, and then i saw this proscan for 549.99, i also looked at the 42' dynex but the sound on that tv wasnt that great. I have loved this tv so far, and it looks great in my room. I would recommend this tv to anyone who wants a great tv for a cheap price. I did not see a better tv in Best Buy for a better price. When i looked at this tv compared to the other tv's it looked just as good if not better. When i got this tv home and took it out of the box, i didn't even have to adjust the picture at all. This tv looked incredible right out of the box and i had it set up no joke in 5 minutes. I honestly dont ever hook up tv's and this was just incredibly

I have not bought a new TV for 6 or 7 years and feared the price tags. After looking at and researching many brands (40" to 42"), I assumed that there had to be some catch to this deal on the Proscan 40", but there isn't. It has more than I even need, but it's nice to have options. The picture is remarkable and the set looks great in our house. The set up was simple for surround sound, HD cable box and Wii game system. This TV is as good and the name brand, higher priced sets and just as good. I love this Proscan Television and will recommend it to all in the market!

Great deal!

Been shopping for years but holding off, holding off...had a 32" (when that was once a big screen TV) Proscan CRT for 12 years and the picture was amazing.

I was surprised that the young salesman was referring to this as a "B-brand." In my experience Proscan is fantastic. The Toshiba rear-projection HDTV we replaced it with was great for HD, but not so great for everything else and died after 4 years! I was actually sorry we had to replace the CRT back then. But not only are we proud to have a Proscan back in our living room, the price is unbeatable!

As previous poster noted, contrast ratio is actually 10,000:1, not 3:000:1 as indicated on the Best Buy site. It says 10:000:1 all over the box and manual.

The TV was so freaking cheap I sprung for the $99 in-home 4 year warranty. So we have an awesome warranty on a great TV and it is still way cheaper than any other 40" out there.

*Picture looks great in all modes
*We are not audioophile

I was in the market for a 40"-42" TV for my den. I ended up purchasing a Samsung 40" Class /1080p /60Hz /LCD HDTV 5 series a month or so ago. I really liked it, but I spent over $1000 for it. Then I saw this set online for under $600 and thought "It couldn't even be close". I bought it, just to compare, and honestly with the intent on returning it once I'd proven myself correct. I'm so glad I did because side-by-side the picture quality was actually better than the Samsung! Boy was I wrong. I couldn't believe it!!!! Full HD (1080p), PC compatibility, 3 HDMI inputs, I couldn't have ask for more. Needless to say, instead of spending excessive money for the name, I took that Samsung back and used the $400+ I saved on a BluRay player and a couple of new movies. I definitely suggest you do the same. You won't regret it!

I have been comparison shopping for 42" TVs everywhere, and the second time I came back to BestBuy they had one of these set up for display. The picture quality was easily as good as the Panasonic and Samsung, for hundreds of dollars less. This is a 40", not 42", but honestly once we got it set up I cant tell any difference in the screen size.

My husband was leery since he had never heard of this brand, but I assured him we could return it within 30 days if he didnt like it. Once we got it all up and running he is very satisfied with the quality and appearance! It has a great sharp picture and good color. I think we got a great TV for the price!

I spotted this tv at Best Buy in it's box. I was very suspicious because they didn't have it on display. The specs sounded incredible for the price. 3k NATIVE contrast ratio, 1080p, 40 inch? It sounded too good to be true.... quite honestly. Best Buy having a 30 day return policy, I decided to give it a shot. I could always return it, if I didn't like it.

After I got it home and set it up to a PS3, I was immediately impressed with the picture quality I got for the price. I didn't think it looked as good as any of the other TVs I've had (Samsung, Panasonic), but it was still very good.

After tinkering with the settings for a while, I figured out how they worked. After playing with the calibration, I've found the TV looked MUCH better. I got the blacks to look VERY inky and dark, without losing any dark level detail. The colors also now look nice and solid. Dark Knight on Blu-Ray looks phenomenal.

So the only problem with the television is the factory settings are

I just like the other person was hesitant in purchasing this product because it was in the middle of the floor and no display. My husband previosly owned a proscan for many years and his tv still works after 20+ years that's why I took the chance and bought the TV. I am very happy to say for $579 I got a good deal and a good TV. Not to mention I went online to leave a comment and discovered that the TV was on sale for $549. I went back to Bestbuy for the difference..so for $549 yes the TV is very much worth it.

I took the advice of the other commentor and adjusted the color on the Tv and its GREAT!!! I am HAPPY!!!

I was really interested in the sharp aquos or panasonic viera 1080 LCD until I came across this deal! I have been shopping for sometime and decided to spend a little bit more to get exactly what I wanted. However, when I came across this Proscan it was too hard to pass up. It far surpassed all other TV's in its class and was much cheaper. The quality of this TV matches that of TV's at double the price - I couldn't be happier!

It was easy to setup, Menu option are simple,Sound quality is great, I couldn't believe the sound for the price, The HD picture is on par with other big brands, The black finish even looks nicer then most of the budget priced TV's,and anytime it switches resolutions it displays it on screen. Although 60Hz is low but it still runs great, and hard to tell that it is not 120Hz,It's listed as 3000:1 , but in and on the box it's really 10,000:1 Aspect ratio. That's miss leading,But If you are getting a new Flat screen under $1000.00 that's not and you don't care so much about branding, this is the way to go.

I wanted an HDTV for bedroom. Was going to buy Samsung or Sharp for $120 more ($699), really glad I didn't. Don't feel I've sacrificed anything in terms of picture or quality. Looks as good as any other higher priced HD model in the store around the same price point. Also haven't noticed much, if any, blurring while watching playoffs. Can't wait for football to start. Watched Steelers replay on NFL Network in HD and it looked phenomenal.

Previously purchased Samsung 32 inch 720p, and wanted a 1080p. I was hesitant at first, but I am glad I bought it. The picture quality isn't that bad. My cheap cable tv looks better than the Samsungs tv. The 3000:1 ratio hurts the color a little also. Tried Halo 3 so far and the colors aren't as bright as I had hoped, but the 1080 makes up for the loss. Proscans sound is phenominal (sp?). It has an option to turn on it's own surround sound versus regular tv speakers, and it makes a huge difference. The sleek design is a plus. If you need a tv on a budget, this isn't a bad idea. Consider it.

High quality television for a low price. Natural skin tones, bright colors. Would be better if it was 120Hz. Sound is AMAZING! Also has an attractive frame.
