Onkyo TXSR507 5.1 Channel High-Definition Home Theater Receiver - Black

We bought an Onkyo receiver from Amazon about a year ago. One month later the master volume control refused to work. And the shabby one totally denied to work about two and an half months ago. We were surprised to see its short life time. Fortunately it is still under warranty so we sent it back to DTR technologies which is the authorized customer service of Onkyo to get a fix. But we never knew it started a nightmare ever since. DTR technologies first called us to say our receiver got damaged on the shipping. The estimation of the damage is $200. We agreed to cover that. Then one more month later, we were told that we need to pay another $208 more and Onkyo will not cover that. We denied to do it and chose to discard the unit. The whole repair process took us two and an half months, and it is very unpleasant and inefficient. Onkyo never considers its customers. As a summary, the product quality is not reliable and the customer service from Onkyo is definitely the worst one I ever met.

I bought this receiver to replace my Sony 5.1 receiver, primarily because I wanted a dual room/dual source receiver but it needed to fit into a tight space, less than 6.25" high, so my selection was already limited. It's a good receiver, don't get me wrong, but I'm not super-impressed. For starters, they don't really tell you that when you are using the dual room/source feature, the primary listening location cannot play 5.1 surround sound. So in my family room if I'm watchng a movie and the deck is listening to music, both areas are only experiencing stereo sound. Kind of a bummer. Similarly, they don't tell you (until you get the instructions) that the source for your second room can only be an analog signal, which is silly. I have an AppleTV input into this receiver via HDMI for my primary room, but since I want to listen to the AppleTV in the second room, I had to hook up separate left and right channel RCA cables to the SAME receiver. Don't get me wrong, this receiver has good

This is an awesome sounding receiver. I've been using it for about 4 weeks now and I love the sound quality. a great deal for the price. However, I've come across two issues, one minor and one major: Minor: The remote has some weird glitch. It is set up to work on equipment other than the reciever (cable box, dvd, tv,). You press the button on the remote marked dvd, and it will work as a remote for your dvd. Press the TV button, and it works for your TV, etc.... You also have buttons that change the receiver inputs. You press dvd, and that's what you see and hear. You press cable, and that's what you see and hear... The glitch is that when you use the receiver input buttons, it also changes the remote assignment. If you change the receiver input to dvd, the remote changes to work the dvd also, so if you want to turn the receiver off or change the volume, you have to press the receiver assignment button every time. It's annoying as hell. Major: The receiver is supposed to play

Looking at all the receivers that are out there is confusing, so I said all I need is a 5.1 and started from there. This is my first time going for surrond sound and for me this receiver works great with the polk speakers that I bought from amazon also. Those speakers were the ones on sale for about 299.00 I think. Any way maybe if I was richer I would go with a higher end product but really I am happy with the sound and that is all it matters. My room is 17x17 but I think it would sound better in a bigger room. No problems with the order and it shipped fast. Very nice transaction.

I did a lot of research (including Consumer Reports) and settled on this Onkyo as the best compromise between performance and price. I've had it 2 weeks now and am very happy. The auto setup function works better than a much-more expensive Denon unit I set up for a friend. I used the microphone (included) to measure speaker levels at 3 different locations in the room and the Onkyo did everything else. (It's connected to some older Polk speakers-- they sound so much better through this amp!) I bought this primarily to process audio from our new BluRay player and the Onkyo does an outstanding job. The sound is better than in most movie theaters! Especially BluRay DTS or HD Master. Wish more movies were recorded in these formats. We also have our DirecTV HD DVR hooked up to the Onkyo. Audio and video travel through the HDMI Cables, so there's no need to hook up audio separately. Very nice and a feature you will find missing from some more expensive amps. The amp does get very warm.

Recently purchased the Onkyo TX SR507 5.1 and paired it up with a 5 yr old set of Bose speakers. This receiver replaced one that was about 8 years old and a little more than 1/2 the cost of the Onkyo so I'm not really comparing apples to apples but the different the Onkyo make it the quality of the sound was amazing. Even thought the speakers are older you would have though we replaced them too. The range of sound from the deepest bass to the highest treble is exceptional for an amp in this price range. I am extremely pleased with the Onkyo.

True HDMI capability (video AND sound) makes for very simple connections and operation (typical set up: two HDMI cables going into the receiver--one for your DVD and one for the cable box; one more going out to your TV--really easy). At this low price, you also get "automatic" balancing of your speakers against room acoustic characteristics plus circuitry that limits variation extremes in audio levels. If you are more into experiencing theater sound and listening to your music than "geeking out" with a complicated connection and set up process, the TXSR507 is probably the best value you'll find right now.

Just got this TX-SR507 set up. Here are some initial impressions. The setup is very easy and fast. Had all the connections complete in less than 15 minutes. Despite some misinformation out there this receiever is not HDMI passthrough for audio. Instead it has HDMI repeater technology. This is way way better than pass through. What this HDMI repeater technology allows you to do is to run a SINGLE HDMI cable from each source (cable box, blueray, dvd player, roku box, or any other device that has hdmi out) to the reciever (you can hook up all the items into this as its loaded with HDMI inputs. From the receiver you run a SINGLE HDMI cable to your TV. Meanwhile the audio is processed by the reciever and sent out to your surround sound system. No additional toslink or analog cables needed. This feature alone is worth the extra to buy this unit. If it was only HDMI passthrough you would need to run separate cables for your surround sound in addition to the HDMI to get your audio output from

I bought this receiver based on someone's recommendation on a forum and also based on the name of Onkyo. I only needed 5.1 and I have quite a few HDMI devices but only 1 HDMI input on my current TV so this receiver fits my need very nicely. My setup: Front: Polk R50 Rear: Polk R300 Center: Polk CS1 Sub: Polk PSW10 TV: Septre Komodo 37in 720p (due for upgrade) DVD: Samsung-DVD1080p9 Computer: dell dim 8300 P4 (I know it's very old) + older HP DVD player and both computers all have HDMI output, so to me a HDMI switch is a must. The receiver powers my speaker nicely (a huge upgrade for me from Logitech 5300). The only reason I gave this 4 start instead of 5: the HDMI doesn't always work. When I plugged in the DVD player, I got a lot of loud noise from my TV (not the Polk speakers) even if I turn the volume down to 0. Originally I thought the DVD player is bad, then after almost a week of trial and unplugging and replugging the HDMI cables, I realize it's the receiver's fault. Also both

After my Pioneer VSX-something started dying out on me (AmP Error problems) after 5+ years. I upgraded to this one. Onkyo is the best!! Its driving 5 speakers (JBL Studio series tower, center and surround) and 1 Polk 10" Subwoofer and the sound is so clean compared to my old one that it makes the home theater experience more enjoyable for an audiophile like me. I use the HDMI connection from two sources to the output with no signal loss (its a pass through). I programmed my remote to work with the Direct tv box and tv and it was flawless. Controls were adequate - my only wish is that the remote control would light up. Try to read up on the manual and don't rush yourself when its time to tweak. Take your time with this. I tweaked the sound by putting on the Jazz channel on direct tv. The reason for Jazz is because it uses nice bass and treble for tweaking. Onkyo also has this Audissy mic that calibrates it auto for you, but I havent tried it yet. Right now, its adequate. In the end, this

After about 12 years of excellent service, my old Onkyo receiver (a TX-DS575) finally died, which is the only reason I decided to get a replacement (a TX-SR507). Out-of-box-experience: I am *very* happy with the SR507 because a) it was easy to set up without having to read anything, and b) all the settings on my Logitech universal remote worked without alteration. Since I don't have a lot of time for anything, both of these facts helped me greatly. Plugging in my six speakers (5.1) and devices to the SR507 was intuitive for me, which was a great improvement over the 12-year-old model. I was done in a couple of minutes instead of having to consult a manual or friend for help. I haven't tried every feature of the SR507, but it is doing a great job with our DVD and TV/DVR setup and my family is happy. More later if I can remember to add to this post.

Onkyo TX-SR507 5.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver Overall I was very exited for this new receiver. -it was priced affordably and $150 less than the $500 Onkyo TX-SR606 that I thought I was going to have to buy unitl this beaut hit the market. I didn't need the 7.1 Surround that comes with the SR606. If your after a bar none receiver that has Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD and only require 5.1 surround then I don't think you can find a better buy out there. It may seem contradictory to require HD sound and not have at least 6.1 surround but for me I was upgrading from two decent sized 3-way bookshelf speakers to my first 5.1 surround sound system so I didn't see the pnt in getting too crazy. It powers my Polk RM85 Home theater system wonderfully along with the PSW111 Woofer. Used some Banana Plugs from Monoprice and was set. I didn't need an outrageous amount of watts because I don't get crazy loud with my Home theater, although this receiver can get too loud if I wanted it to. The only

This is probably the cheapest, quality receiver that can strip out HDMI audio ( many hdmi receivers don't ). It has plenty of HDMI inputs and is very easy to setup. Something I had trouble finding out is if this would drive 4 ohm speakers. I recently bought some lsi15s on craigslist and they are 4 ohms and are notoriously hard to drive. After wasting some time on audiophile forums they kept trying to convince me that only after I had the double helix flux capacitor extreme amplifier ( only 3,999! ) I would actually "FEEL" the speakers or some other mumbo jumo. I decided to try it out myself. The onkyo 507 did not disappoint. While I never listen at these absurd levels I stress tested it by cranking up the volume to 50 and playing classical for an hour ( this was loud enough that I had to step out and close the door). It got hot, but sound quality was sustained and it topped out at 50C I think. All onkyos get hot and driving 4 ohm speakers makes them even hotter, but they'll do it and

Let me start by saying this is my first AV receiver (all my life I have had nothing but bookshelf type stereos), and I have only had a few days to play around with it. What I can say that seems to be positive about this AV receiver: -Plenty of sound modes (ie. Music, Games, TV/Movies). Actually, there are so many it will take me a bit to figure out which is the best choice for each input -The microphone setup is very easy (almost like an auto-adjust for different listening positions in the room -Very nice looking -Does not get too hot -Pre outs for both sub and rear channel speakers (so wireless options can be used for both, which is what I plan on doing) -4 HDMI inputs, 2 component video inputs, with matching RCA audio inputs The biggest issue I have (and which is why I would only give it a 3 as of right now), is that even though there are plenty of inputs, there are only THREE "input selectors." In order to get audio/video working from each input, you need to assign one of these

Excelent product for the price. I've finally mounted my HT and this receiver works great for the space (about 15 square meters) I have. Its limitations were already known so I had no surprises.

I wanted to upgrade my sound to HD with HDMI audio but I didn't want to spend alot. This was a perfect fit for me. I have a 5.1 system and am not interested in 7.1 or more. This system after the sound calibration is a huge step forward from my H/K AVR 125. The HK has a slightly warmer sound but I would not say the Onkyo is bright, I would say it is more neutral if anything. I could never get the HK to truly surround me with sound, I really didn't try very hard but it always annoyed me that all the sound was out of the CC and very little out of the back no matter how hard I tried. The Onkyo in about 10 minutes was calibrated and sounding incredible. I tried a bluray movie and wow, what an improvement with very little effort. The setup was easy and intuitive. It also works well with the RIHD and my Panasonic Bluray and TV. When I put in a movie everything switches to the right inputs automatically and when I turn off the tv so does the receiver. The only downside I can see is the heat issue.

Just recieved the Onkyo sr507 today and it works wonderful. Paired it with the Energy Take Classic 5.1 speakers and all I can say is WOW! Has all the features I need and non that I don't. If you are in the market for a Great receiver I highly recommend it. I will be ordering the Iphone Dock and can't wait to see how that works with this system.

Have had this product for a few weeks and it performs great.Setup was easy and it has plenty of power to produce great sound,so much in fact that I had to adjust the bass settings down a little. I have it hooked to a dish network 722 HD receiver,PS3,and a Sony dvd player all running to a Samsung LN46B550.The picture quality is amazing and the switching between components is seamless other than a slight clicking noise when the receiver changes between sound formats(DTS to Dolby and vice versa)but that is my only minor complaint. I think it is a great receiver for the price.

I've never owned a A/V receiver before so I tried to do my homework before I made a purchase. The TX-SR507 has many of the same features as the more expensive models for a fraction of the price (four 1080p capable HDMI inputs and TrueHD/DTS-HD decoding). I pre-ordered and got it for $279.00 with free shipping, so the price was right too. I've paired it up with Polk Audio RM75's and a Polk Audio PSW111 sub. I'm extremely pleased with the results. I use it mostly for gaming with my PS3 and watching Blu-ray movies. The Audyssey Auto Speaker Calibration with the included mic made precise set up a breeze. I doubt that you could find a better A/V receiver for that price.

I purchased this receiver along with the Energy Take Classic system to replace my seven year old Panasonic HTiB. The improvement is remarkable, although I'm sure much of the improvement is due to the new speakers. This receiver has plenty of inputs, supports audio over HDMI, and generates clean sounding audio. Basically this is everything I need. I love that it comes in a relatively compact package.

I know heat is a big issue for receivers in general. This one does not seem to have overheating issues. I've kept it on for several hours and it gets somewhat warm, but not hot to the touch. I have 2-3 inches of clearance on the top and it is pretty open on the sides and back.

Let me start by saying I did tons of research and settled on Onkyo because of the ease of setup, hdmi inputs and price. I initially thought I was going to get the sr606, but decided against it because it's a behemoth, the video upconversion didn't get good reviews, and I'm only going to use 5.1 surround sound. This receiver offers a lot of the same features as the 606 in a much smaller package. I paired it with Definitive Technology Procinema 600 5.1 surround system and it sounds great. Much better than my 10 yr old Sony receiver with sony and bose speakers.
