Onkyo TXSR507 5.1 Channel High-Definition Home Theater Receiver - Black

We bought an Onkyo receiver from Amazon about a year ago. One month later the master volume control refused to work. And the shabby one totally denied to work about two and an half months ago. We were surprised to see its short life time. Fortunately it is still under warranty so we sent it back to DTR technologies which is the authorized customer service of Onkyo to get a fix. But we never knew it started a nightmare ever since. DTR technologies first called us to say our receiver got damaged on the shipping. The estimation of the damage is $200. We agreed to cover that. Then one more month later, we were told that we need to pay another $208 more and Onkyo will not cover that. We denied to do it and chose to discard the unit. The whole repair process took us two and an half months, and it is very unpleasant and inefficient. Onkyo never considers its customers. As a summary, the product quality is not reliable and the customer service from Onkyo is definitely the worst one I ever met.

I bought this receiver to replace my Sony 5.1 receiver, primarily because I wanted a dual room/dual source receiver but it needed to fit into a tight space, less than 6.25" high, so my selection was already limited. It's a good receiver, don't get me wrong, but I'm not super-impressed. For starters, they don't really tell you that when you are using the dual room/source feature, the primary listening location cannot play 5.1 surround sound. So in my family room if I'm watchng a movie and the deck is listening to music, both areas are only experiencing stereo sound. Kind of a bummer. Similarly, they don't tell you (until you get the instructions) that the source for your second room can only be an analog signal, which is silly. I have an AppleTV input into this receiver via HDMI for my primary room, but since I want to listen to the AppleTV in the second room, I had to hook up separate left and right channel RCA cables to the SAME receiver. Don't get me wrong, this receiver has good

This is an awesome sounding receiver. I've been using it for about 4 weeks now and I love the sound quality. a great deal for the price. However, I've come across two issues, one minor and one major: Minor: The remote has some weird glitch. It is set up to work on equipment other than the reciever (cable box, dvd, tv,). You press the button on the remote marked dvd, and it will work as a remote for your dvd. Press the TV button, and it works for your TV, etc.... You also have buttons that change the receiver inputs. You press dvd, and that's what you see and hear. You press cable, and that's what you see and hear... The glitch is that when you use the receiver input buttons, it also changes the remote assignment. If you change the receiver input to dvd, the remote changes to work the dvd also, so if you want to turn the receiver off or change the volume, you have to press the receiver assignment button every time. It's annoying as hell. Major: The receiver is supposed to play

Looking at all the receivers that are out there is confusing, so I said all I need is a 5.1 and started from there. This is my first time going for surrond sound and for me this receiver works great with the polk speakers that I bought from amazon also. Those speakers were the ones on sale for about 299.00 I think. Any way maybe if I was richer I would go with a higher end product but really I am happy with the sound and that is all it matters. My room is 17x17 but I think it would sound better in a bigger room. No problems with the order and it shipped fast. Very nice transaction.

I did a lot of research (including Consumer Reports) and settled on this Onkyo as the best compromise between performance and price. I've had it 2 weeks now and am very happy. The auto setup function works better than a much-more expensive Denon unit I set up for a friend. I used the microphone (included) to measure speaker levels at 3 different locations in the room and the Onkyo did everything else. (It's connected to some older Polk speakers-- they sound so much better through this amp!) I bought this primarily to process audio from our new BluRay player and the Onkyo does an outstanding job. The sound is better than in most movie theaters! Especially BluRay DTS or HD Master. Wish more movies were recorded in these formats. We also have our DirecTV HD DVR hooked up to the Onkyo. Audio and video travel through the HDMI Cables, so there's no need to hook up audio separately. Very nice and a feature you will find missing from some more expensive amps. The amp does get very warm.
