This set replaced a 40" Samsung I returned after two days because the sound was mysteriously increasing on its own. I'm so pleased I went with this LG. I immediately noticed how much crisper the picture was. The Samsung was only 40" 1080p 60Hz but I still wasn't impressed when I compared it to my previous TV which was a 37" 780p 60Hz LG. The 120Hz LG is extremely clear. Watching HD movies on this TV makes you feel like you're on the film set; it freaked me out a bit. Great thing is you can turn the 120Hz off and the 60Hz picture is still awesome.

The only thing that had me nervous about going with this set were the reviews mentioning sound sinc problems. I'm happy to say I haven't had any such issues. This TV is primo. Only reason I didn't go with LG to begin with is because the biggest I wanted to go was 40" for the bedroom. My wife thinks the 42" was pushing it but for the features and price I had to do it. I'm already used to it in our room. I'm very happy.

I bought this tv at a discounted price thanks to Best Buy's open box deals. It is an amazing set and compliments my black tv stand, blu ray player, and Xbox 360 Elite. The sound changes with different channels but that is not the TV's fault it is the station's fault. If you want a name brand 42 in w/120hz and under $900 then look no further than this LG

I originally bought a 60hz LG tv. Two weeks later I saw that the 120hz was on sale and $170 more than the 60hz. I called Best Buy and they told me it was no problem to exchange the 60hz for the 120hz. At the store, I noticed the picture was slightly more crisp on the 120hz, but it didn't seem significant. The salesman said the tv was on "Store Demo" mode, so it didn't make too much a difference. But I swapped them out anyway because I knew if I didn't like the 120hz, I could just bring it back. When I got it set up at home, I couldn't believe how much clearer the picture was. The 60hz had a clear picture too, but the 120hz's picture is so clear it makes you feel like you're right there! I couldn't believe the difference. The best part about it is: if you don't like the 120hz picture, you have the option to turn the TruMotion off- when it's off, the picture goes to 60hz. If you're willing to spend a couple more hundred dollars, going with the 120hz is the way to go. If not, the 60hz is great

After extensive online research I knew this was the set I wanted. I had it narrowed to this set or a Toshiba 46" Regza. After going instore and seeing it in person there was no other option. The size of this and the ellegance of the set convinced me. 46" was too big for my room and LG has a picture wisard that makes an optimizing dvd not needed. You can set at least two different personal settings as well as use the defaults for Gaming, Movies, or Sports. The Eco saver button drastically reduces the backlight to save money on electricity. I use this primarilly for my XBOX360 and it is AWESOME. Side inputs and many HDMIs. I almost had a sensory overload. The remote seems kind of basic, but I have my universal cable remote and it ported functions fine. Some shows are still in standard def and look kind of blurry, but the XGames are Sweet! Soon I will wall mount it after I add RGB and optical audio cable to my reciever. If this is in your budget, buy it!

We bought the TV the day after Thanksgiving... Just like the rest of the world. Yeasterday, not even 2 MONTHS LATER, the screen went COMPLETELY GREEN!

Called best buy and they were accomodating and said we could return the TV and get whatever we wanted....very satasfied with the customer service....LG customer service was another story! Rude! Disrespectful! Left a bad taste in our mouth.....buyer beware is next on my list of phone calls to make!

This TV has been awesome. The picture is incredible with none of the issues others have mentioned. The football playoffs have been incredible with the feeling that I'm on the field with the players. Movies likewise.

Have had this tv for 3 weeks now and am extremely happy. It's a great size television and looks great with both regular tv programming and hd programming. Blu-ray also looks amazing. The only thing that I have to complain about is the 120hz technology. On some tv shows and movies, the images move too robotic, and even at times seem to be even blurrier. Luckily, you can turn the motion control off and the tv performs excellent. I purchased this tv for $800, did a lot of research beforehand, and couldn't be happier.

After many visits I finally found the LCDTV to my liking and the deal was good. Found the setup relatively easy by following the directions. Upon turning it on and adjusting the picture, I had trouble adjusting the ratio for the full screen to my liking. The sound was the next turnoff. The volume was not consistant and needed adjusting to every channel. Enjoy the TV and would recommend it to my friends.

I've researched and compared many makes and brands of LCD tv's. Seems to be a price break point from 37" to 42". This LG LCD has higher specs than some of the others in its class for near the same size. The picture quality, specs and features are some of the best. The price was right for the size. Best Buy lowered price the next day from an already sale price. Thanks to their pricing guarantee, my account was credited the $56 difference.
So far I'm very pleased with my purchase and am enjoying some old dvd movies now on a larger screen.

It's my first lcd and I of course love it compared to my old tube tv. The picture on hd channels is great. I picked this one specifically for the 120Hz and do not notice any blur. I also picked it because I like LG and it shivels, which few flat screens do. I got it on sale, but now wish I had gotten the one w/ netflix installed which was a little more. I noticed I have to turn the volume way up on dvds vs. when I watch tv, but that may not be the tv's problem. Overall no real regrets.

I purchased this TV during a great sale offer for $780.00 + free shipping. It was delivered early too! I was hesitant to buy a TV on line, so I went to 3 different stores to see it in person. It was beautiful in the stores, but I know there are ways they can fool you to think one TV is better than another. Plus it was at least $899.00. When it arrived it took only 20 minutes to set up. Simply cut the ties, lift the top box off, remove the stickers, screw in 4 screws to the base, and plug in your cables. That easy. I had no issues with the sound like in other reviews. That issue seemed to be only with one set of shipments around September 09' from the manufacturer, and was a simple factory setting that can be changed quite easily (check earlier reviews for the fix). The picture takes a little tweaking to get to your liking, but the factory settings are a great start. Also there are settings on line if you look up the model number on Google. Don't even think about buying this TV without

As you see here You will expect 42LH40, but they gonna send you 42LH30. First time I thought it was very nice deal. it lowest price I could found online. I am very disappointed. I called COMPUSA, and talk about my model number problem. They don't even know what is different between 42lh30 and 42lh40! don't buy from compusa.

I ordered this TV on the Black Friday deal. I was hesitant to buy a TV online, but the great deal and lack of tax made me take a chance. Unfortunately, my fears proved true. When the TV arrived, the sound would not work out of the HDMI. If I had bought it at a local store, I would have taken it back. However, since I couldn't just do that, I spent a while trying different HDMI devices, different cables, etc. from all over the house, only to conclude that I had a TV with a defective HDMI. If it didn't work, why did I still give it 4 stars? I debated on 3, but settled on 4, because (1) when the problem arose, LG was great to deal with and the end result with a great, relatively inexpensive TV was worth a few incoveniences and (2) I don't think the fact that I was unlucky enough to get the one bad TV is worth ruining the overall rating of an entire product so long as the problem is taken care of hassle free, as it was for me. My LG experience: I called customer service late Friday

Pretty much everything has already been mentioned by other reviews, so I will mention something new/updates. 1)The HDMI audio sync issue was a big concern when I decided to buy this TV, but LG seems to have fixed this with a new firmware. I am using a comcast HD DVR box and a DVD player through HDMI, and audio/video syncs properly. 2) Picture quality is BAD without adjusting the picture settings. The colors (look washed out) and the rendering will really disappoint you, but dont judge this tv until you tweak the settings. Google "xxlh40 setting" and try out a few variations. I either use the cnet settings for LG xxlh30 or a hometheatremag setting for this tv. Picture looks AMAZING with these changes. (fyi: dont associate brightness with good picture quality!) 3) I found it annoying that I have to change PQ settings for EACH input, but its not a big deal once you have done all your tweaking. 4) Trumotion 120hz. I only use this at "Low" for sports. Never use this setting for movies...it

This tv is great. Picture quality, sound, and features are all excellent. My only concern is that the backlight seems to be leaking out the top and bottom vents on the back of the tv and shines on the wall. You can't see it with the lights on, but it is noticeable in a dark room. While this really isn't that big of a deal, it is the only thing that bothers me about the tv since I almost watch everything at night with the lights off. I am about 9 feet away and can see it above and below the screen while watching it straight on. Does anyone know if I can change certain settings that will minimize this, or is it just the structure of the tv and can't be fixed? I have tried lowering the backlight but it doesn't seem to change.

I bought this TV and loved it. Two weeks after I picked it up it got a red stuck pixel in the upper right hand corner so I returned it. I highly recommend it, the picture and 120hz refresh rate is stunning. I returned my first one but may pick up another and hope I get one without pixel problems. If you want a tv with a great picture for a great price, this is it.

I did a lot of research before actually purchasing this TV. This was exactly the size I wanted since I didn't want the living room to be overwhelmed by some elephant. After about a month of using it, this is by far the best bang-for-the-buck TV out there. Especially compared with the new LED TV's that are just coming out, for the size and price, there's just no comparison.

Some will complain about the speakers that are built into the TV and how they're not so good. For just the average user, they are perfect. I have my volume setting at 10 right now and it's loud enough to hear sitting about 20ft. away from the TV.

Picture quality is awesome! I've heard very faint rumors about this TV not being so great with the PS3 through HDMI, but so far, everything has been running smooth, especially regular DVD's. They seem to just "pop" out at you and the movies are just more fluid. I haven't had a chance to test out blu-ray movies yet (because of the ridiculously high price), but

Walked into Best Buy store and choosing the 42LH40 or 42LH50 and the only difference is the internet. Exact same functions and the price is what helped me. Got it for $688 sale and the one with the internet was $899 big difference. Great buy.

Took me a long time to decide on an HDTV after lots of researching specs and prices. I will say that you should actually go to a store which has lots of HDTV's being demoed because that is the only real way to decide which tv has the best picture quality. I chose this one because I wanted a LCD under $1000 with a screen 40" or larger which was 1080p, 120Hz and had a good contrast ratio. I didn't want the 60Hz because from what I have read the refresh rate does make a difference especially when playing video games. The real deciding factor when it came to the specs of this TV was the very high contrast ratio. This meant a very high color detail and providing dark blacks and bright whites. Also the energy star power save adjustments can dim your screen which actually give you a great contrast without losing color detail. The sound is great and there are many options to adjust it to how you want it. It can get very loud way before the volume is even half way up. My only complaint for the sound

First I can say I love the TV. Wonderful picture easy to set up, Delivered to the door in record time, however; Lip Sync was off, kind of like watching a dubbed foreign movie on most channels (Some of the true HD music programs worked great) First I called comcast, they came out.. tested everything.. Wasn't their problem! Went on line saw many other complaints for the same problem. Went to the LG web site and opened a repair claim, 45 min chat with online help, was no help, said they would send out a repair person for a software update.. one week went by.. on line chat again trying to get a repair date.. All they said is the work order was in the system. I called LG several days later.. still no help?? Was getting ready to send the TV back to Amazon and then after 3 weeks I get a call from LG, They had to send the patch to the repair person, now after 4 weeks the repair person shows up, installed the update with some problems. Seems to work much better. Sure glad Amazon extended

"1) press and hold the menu button on the side of the TV then press and hold the menu button on the remote until the display says "Enter Password" 2) enter four zeros from the remote control to get past the password screen (you should now see an "IN START" menu with all kinds of information listed) 4) look at the lower left corner where there should be a numbered menu -- menu option 4 should say "System" 5) use the down arrow until the word "System" is highlighted (pressing the number '4' will not take you down the menu) and press the enter key (you should now be on the System menu near the middle of the screen) 6) press the down arrow to option 9 "Lip Sync Adjust" and then press the left arrow to adjust the value to zero (mine was set to 20 from the factory) 7) press the return key to get out of the menu and bingo, you're done!" ... This is my first HDTV, and doing some research helped. Never expected quality this good from LG, but I guess times have changed. My parents have Sony HDTV, and the picture on their Bravia is not nearly as good as this. With some minor adjustments, u can get perfect color balance and contrast! Make sure to use HDMI cable, no other type of connection will give you the same quality. HD channels look perfect, and even broadcast channels look good, which is no small achievement for an hdtv set. Sound is good, but I got a blue-ray LG system to go with LG 42LH40, and it rocks!

After going to Best Buy 3 times to look at LCD TVs I concluded that the LG gave the most beautiful viewing experience compared to the Toshiba I was considering as well. Now after getting the LG and after 5 weeks of viewing I'm still delighted with the choice. Picture quality is superb, sound is excellent from its speakers. Audio is clear, and that lets me keep the volume much lower than other sets I've listened to because of the distinct clarity. Additionally the HDMI inputs allow me to connect a laptop computer and have high definition video and sound all from the same cable. As mentioned in another review there is one glaring deficiency in the LG and it became a headache for me in not being able to connect the TV to our two channel analog sound system. LG only has an optical-digital sound output (Toslink) connector to connect to sound systems. Unless folks have a relatively new sound amplifier with 5.1 surround sound they will not be able to run the TV sound along with its connected

As an owner of a previous LCD and a Plasma, I have to say, this HDTV completely blows the others away in all aspects. The speaker system is pretty amazing (most things can be watched in the 20's volume range - this set goes up to 100!), and it's virtual surround sound isn't bad at all (when watching movies, I put the sound on Cinema mode, with the treble and bass turned all the way up). The auto-volume is also a nice feature. No more crazy-loud commercials! This feature fixes that issue by normalizing the commercials to a lower volume. I want to draw special attention to the 120hz function of the TV, which is buried in the expert settings of the video options. LG advertises this feature as 'TruMotion 120hz', but the option in the menu simply states "120hz." This can cause some confusion for some people. Let me explain what is going on. This TV will refresh at 120hz, no matter what - which is exactly what you want it to do. The 120hz option in the menu that I am referring to has

I recently returned a 40" 60hz Samsung B550 due to very poor low light performance, and decided to try this panel despite everything bad the negative reviews had to say. So far, I haven't experienced audio de-syncing, screen blanking, poor sound, or my PS3 being incompatible with any of its hdmi ports. That doesn't mean these issues don't exist, or other users are doing something wrong, but mine doesn't seem to have these defects. The only thing that is wrong with it, is it has a fair amount of flashlighting at the bottom of the screen. For those who don't know what that means, flashlighting is backlight bleed-through on lcd screens. In other words, it has a bright spot that resembles a flashlight being pointed upward from with the screen.
I never thought I would say this either, because I've always been of the mindset that anything I spend close to a grand on should function PERFECTLY, but I'm actually willing to put up with this. It's really only visible from certain angles, and at

My previous TV set was 17-year old Mitsubishi, no wonder that this TV feels like I being on a different planet. I do however see some pixelation with fast moving objects (in HD), not sure if this is in the signal or something else. I can't wait to get home after work and turn this TV on. Phenomenal experience. And 42" size was ideal for my situation.

After using a 25" Samsung CRT TV for years it was more than time for an upgrade. I regretfully missed a $499 sale on a 42" Insignia by only a day and in frustration was ready to spend around $1000 on a 40" Samsung. I'm glad now that I didn't because the LG was a much better deal. I bought this one for $799 on sale and it was worth every penny.

I have had good luck in the past with other LG products, mainly a 22" LCD computer monitor I've used for years now but the main reason I bought this TV was the amazing picture and features it offered at it's price range. Even at it's normal price ($899) it's still worth it. Sure you can find cheaper 42" TVs in this price range or even get a 47" for the same price but the features can't be beat. The picture quality of this set rivals high end Samsungs and the options for calibration are excellent.

A couple things about the 120hz... I tried using it when I was watching TV and movies but it made them very unnatural looking. A good way

I specifically wanted a 42" set. Consumer Report rated it 3rd in the 42" category. I saw it on display in the store and it was a very good picture and a very good price. It set up very easily. I have it hooked to a separate older sound surround system and couldn't use HDMI cables so I used Componet Video connections and the picture is still crystal clear. Great set.

I read the reviews listed here after I bought this TV and was nervous about all the complaints regarding the lip sync problems. I printed out the fix suggested by another reviewer and was ready to go when we set it up. I've had this TV set up for a week now and haven't experienced a single problem with the sound. In fact, it is truly amazing. I've only had to have the sound set between 10 and 15 depending on the channel and it's plenty loud. The picture blows my husband and I away. The 3d quality on HD shows makes everything look like a live feed. Watched 2 movies on blu-ray last weekend and didn't even need the surround for outstanding audio quality. We did as the salesperson recommended and paid a little extra for the higher grade monster cables, so I don't know if that is what is making the difference but I could not be happier with this purchase. We previously had a Sharp Aquos 1080P and thought that was great, but this is even better. If you're looking for a great TV and an excellent

After about a month of reading blogs, online forums and massive reviews I purchased this set. The number one priority was gaming. I play lots of high motion reaction driven games, fighers, rock band, and shooters. Without getting into the dirty details of video lag, I chose this set because it was one of the fastest. Even tho its not in the description this tv has a 2.6ms response rate. When setup properly there was almost no recorded lag on this tv. It came down between the non 120hz version of this tv and this one. I decided on this one because I do occasionally watch tv and perfer compensation for motion artifacts. In the options it allows you to set it for, OFF, LOW and HIGH. I absolutly love the menu interface for this tv. Its very intuitive and is visually appealing. When changing channels thru the integrated tuner it was one of the fastest I have come across in quite a while. Overall this is a terrific set and you cant beat the price. If you looking for a gaming set seriously consider

first off, i am so surprised by this tv based off of the reviews.

there are no sound/mouth issues as stated in all the reviews prior to mine. im guessing LG fixed this issue. I have cox digital cable and no HD at this time. with this tv hooked up to regular digital cable, it still looks amazing. the 120hz really is noticeable and it looks real.

the color is deep and crisp and boy is this tv BRIGHT! not bright in a bad way, but bright as in really giving those reds blues oranges and greens and FLOURSCENT look to them.

i have a wd HD TV LIVE (which i reccomend everyone get) and i have it connected to my new LG set with a rocketfish hdmi. now, i can stream all my dvd, blu ray rips and digital downloads right from my computer.

i can even use this tv as a monitor if i choose.

what makes the samsung line better is only the higher color contrast. the 40 inch samsungs have 100000:1.

but the way i look at it, this tv is 42 inches and it has a

I purchased this TV from Best Buy for $599 and it has been one of the best purchases of the year for me. I purchased a 42" Insignia LCD 60hz for $499 and wasn't impressed so I took it back and found the LG for just $100 more. The $100 additional cost was completely worth the money. Everything about this TV is amazing. Picture quality is amazing. I would recommend this TV to anyone. Going from 60hz (which I'm used to) to 120hz is huge! Spending a little more for the 120hz feature is completely worth the money. If anyone reads this in the near future, $599 for this TV is an amazing deal. Completely satisfied.

Oh I really wanted to like this set.

This replaced a 2 year old 37" LG LCD which has been a fantastic TV. Very basic setup for us...cable into DVR and HDMI from DVR to set...so the only component to change was the TV (our 37" never had a lip sync problem). Lip sync issue showed up right from the start with the new set. Initially contacted our cable company...but tweaking the settings in the DVR helped little or none. Contacted LG 3 days after purchase...and they attempted to walk me through the hold menu on set/hold menu on remote work-around...but it wouldn't work. Another attempt at a different work-around failed as well. Put in a service call order...heard nothing for 2 weeks...called back...heard nothing for another week. Was told by LG rep that they originally were mailing customers USB drives with updated firmware...but now they were just doing house calls.

Wasn't about to let the 30 day return policy expire...so I reluctantly returned the set to BB and bought a

I got really lucky. I went into local Best Buy just to look at LCD TV's and the price on this TV was erroneously marked at $429. Best Buy honored the price even though they knew it was incorrect (and they immediately corrected the price tag just as soon as I completed my purchase). I give them kudos for honoring the erroneous price since it was their mistake. I would also like to thank whomever created the label with the incorrect price. I can honestly say, I have no regrets at all purchasing this TV. I should have tried to get a second one at that price. Oh well, at least I got one. Picture quality is worth the advertised price of $799 without a doubt.

The LG 42lh40 is an amazing television and can't be beat for the Amazon price. Pros: It was really easy to set up and finding the channels was automatic. The picture out of the box is stunning but it also allows you to change the image via a very intuitive Picture Wizard. The sound is really nice and loud even at low settings. The 120hz makes everything very smooth though there are some artifacts on the high setting (I use it for everything except Blu-ray movies). Cons: The menu is easy to navigate but some of the features should have been a remote button. Notes: This is my first HDTV and a huge step up from my 28" Zenith which I have been using for the past 15 years. I play PS3 games and the picture on this television is so incredible on my games that it's like I got a new game system.

Supposedly this is a widespread problem with LG HD tv's and PS3's through HDMI, it will display "invalid format", It's all over the Playstation forums, ive had the motherboard replaced 3 times and the power supply, even LG is stumped.

I bought this TV at Frys when they had it on a one day sale at $599. It was purchased on Friday 10/23/2009. This TV doesn't disappoint at all! PS3 looks georgous and HDTV looks phenomenal! The colors pop (Sammy's pop a little brighter) and the contrast ratio is out of this world (70k:1). I couldn't believe that Frys marked it down that low and even the employees were baffled! They said it would be a good deal for a 60 hz TV. This is 120 hz and it is awesome. You can notice some motion blurring but if on game mode you hardly see it. One thing that is great is the sound on this TV. It is much better than your typical LCD 20 watt speakers. It is just amazing and very clear! I haven't spent time calibrating because I just got it yesterday but I will and have heard that this can help a great deal with picture quality. Overall, I'm impressed immensely and am just glad that I got a great deal on it! If you can find it at the price I paid or even at $699 then do yourself a favor and

This is answer to the previous reviewer talking about the terrible customer service from LG.

I tried to deal with LG as well (for the same issue) and they will not even call me (tech support) about the issue for 7-10 business days(!).

Not acceptable. Especially since the return policy on the set is 30 days.

I thought, why not use my Best Buy extended warranty - which I did.

End of day: Best Buy had someone come out to the house 1 day after I called with the firmware upgrade.

I still have a little lag issue, but have concluded that its the Comcast (Cisco Systems) HD-DVR box at fault. My Blu-Ray movies play beautifully without the pesky lip sync issue.

I bought this tv on 10-8-2009 and an hour after i had it home i was on the phone with lg about how the sound did not go along with the mouth movement. Lg had told me that I just need a update so they would send a tech out to do the upgrade. Today is Wednesday the 21st. Over the last two weeks, i have called lg twice and they keep saying a couple of days. They will have utill Friday to get out here or i will take it back. Bad customer service with my first and last purchase of lg. I will rewrite a review if they come out by the end of this week.

I purchased this tv about a week ago and so far I haven't found any problems with my purchase. I researched many tv's bfore deciding on the LG. One thing that bought me into it was not only the picture but the sound, unlike sony or samsung this had better sound quality. I didn't want to have my sourround sound plugged in everytime I wanted to watch tv so, sound was a big plus. So far the picture is fine I'm still waiting for the satellite company to upgrade me to HD signal, and even without full HD, the overall picture and sound quality is AMAZING. Blue Ray is awesome. I would definetely recomend this tv. It's worth the price.

This is a spectacular TV. As my first HDTV purchase, I did a lot of research going in. Plasmas are a bit cheaper, but due to concerns about burn-in (as I'm using the set with a Home Theater PC, which has a number of static elements that are often on-screen) I decided I wanted to go with an LCD panel. Then came the questions of brand, size, and features. LG is very well-reviewed, looked great in the store, and has a better reputation than, say, Phillips or Vizio. (This is not to say all the panels from the latter manufacturers seemed poor, but they definitely appear to use cheaper components.) 42" is a great middle-high size point, not so huge that it won't fit in a smallish apartment like mine, yet big enough to really feel sizable. And, as for features, this really has most of the bells and whistles one could ever want, including 120Hz playback for Blu-ray content. The TV has a nice smattering of inputs--I have it hooked up via HDMI to my HTPC--and looks great. It has a very subdued

I purchased this 42" t.v last week, with a few worries. I read previous post's commenting on the audio sync. GET THE HDMI CABLE!! It ran me @$50, and worth it! The store salesman explained to me that the sync problems usually are effected by the cable company you use, but the HDMI cable will avoid that issue. I love the picture quality of this t.v. You really feel like you are at Yankee stadium, behind the plate(minus the $2000 ticket price)! I highly recommend this t.v for somebody with a below $1000 budget and better expectations of your t.v quality.

I was hesistant to buy this tv, but i did. The tv had great picture and no audio sync problems like other reviewers had posted. The 42 in Lg was manufactured in Sept 09 and had the newest firmware on it (go into menu, highlight over option and press number 1 seven times). I used this tv for a total of 12 hours over 5 days. The whole tv blew out. This says something about the build quality. Returned it to get a 46 inch Samsung (Very nice).

I bought the TV a little under a year ago and thought it was a great TV, that was until I discovered the build quality was the worst I had ever met. The front screen surround had been fitted incorrectly and has subsequently cracked. LG are the most unhelpful company I have ever met in trying to get something fixed. I would recommend the TV for picture and sound quality, but the build quality is poor and LG customer care is dreadful.

I just got this TV this weekend and it is absolutely amazing. The picture makes you feel like you are right there on set watching them make the movie, or on the field watching the game in person. I hooked it up myself and only took a couple of minutes. I have a PS3 and have that hooked up to it and it makes the old standard def TV look they are decades old. This TV is just amazing. And who can beat the price.

I don't know where Sprague from Pa got the lip sync fix solution, but it works! Everything I read about this TV was good except for the sound problem. In spite of reviews, I didn't believe it could really exist until I set it up and turned on Sport Center. I figured it was just a set-up issue that people were missing. Wrong.

However, following directions in the Sept 9 review from Sprague from PA, the problem was solved! I have no idea why LG would put out such a good product with such a glaring flaw. Perhaps it's just a snafu at the factory with the initial set-up settings that has been corrected with new units being shipped. Who knows.

This unit replaces a four year old 42" Samsung plasma that had a board go out on it. Rather than spend $500 to repair, I decided to go with this LCD. The images seem to have more depth. Watching Law and Order the other night, my wife and I both commented that it almost seemed to have a little 3D element to it. It was weird.

Anyway,

Very happy with this TV after three weeks of use. Wanted a decently priced LCD for my family room which gets a good amount of sunlight (even with blinds closed). LG 42LH40 didn't disappoint! We primarily use the set for television (AT&T Uverse) and Xbox 360 games/Netflix. HD sports are outstanding and Xbox games are razor sharp. I've seen virtually no motion blur from either input. Setup was simple, plug in the HDMI cables and go. Training the Uverse remote to control the set was painless. Colors were outstanding out of the box in "Natural" mode and the automatic tuning wizard was very easy to follow. Only small negative so far is mediocre black level. It's noticeable at night when watching a movie, but I've never been distracted by it. Several "professional" reviews knock this set for black levels but I honestly don't see the big deal. If you want deep blacks, buy a plasma. Definitely recommend this set to anyone looking for a great value in the 40" LCD range. Amazon ordering

I'm not geek, but I know a good TV when I see it. Picture quality is much better than my old HDTV, and brighter too. Love the sound features. Easy hookup. I now have 3 LG tvs in my home (42, 32, and 20) so I guess I'm now a loyal LG customer.

I spent about a month or so researching HD tv's (this was my first time buying one) and I realized the features important to me were 1080p and the 120hz for the best possible picture. I was looking to spend around $1,000 so it came down to the LG for 899 or save around 100-400 more for a samsung with all the same features.

I read the reviews on both and even though the LG had many ppl saying that the Audio did not match up with the picture, I decided that that must be a rare thing and LG wouldn't sell tv's if they all had that issue..Long story short...My LG's audio was not matching up either!!?? The sound was about .5-1 second off on most channels...the news was the worst watching ppl's mouth's not match up with the words

I returned it lastnight...bought the samsung that was org.1399 for 1099 on sale..so i pd 200 more..well worth it!! no problems w/audio at all!!

If you can buy this tv real cheap then maybe its worth it if you can look past that...I just can't

1) press and hold the menu button on the side of the TV then press and hold the menu button on the remote until the display says "Enter Password"

2) enter four zeros from the remote control to get past the password screen (you should now see an "IN START" menu with all kinds of information listed)

4) look at the lower left corner where there should be a numbered menu -- menu option 4 should say "System"

5) use the down arrow until the word "System" is highlighted (pressing the number '4' will not take you down the menu) and press the enter key (you should now be on the System menu near the middle of the screen)

6) press the down arrow to option 9 "Lip Sync Adjust" and then press the left arrow to adjust the value to zero (mine was set to 20 from the factory)

7) press the return key to get out of the menu and bingo, you're done!

The picture of this TV was great, but the audio and video did not correctly sync up on HD channels. I played with all settings imaginable, tried a new HDMI cord, contacted my cable company, and finally opted to return the TV for a Samsung (which works perfectly). If you are using an external surround system, this TV would probably be great for you. If you are planning on solely utilizing the TV's audio, beware.

This TV is great EXCEPT for when you see someone talking. The sound is delayed so when you see people talking, their words don't match their lips moving. It's like watching a badly dubbed program.
I had read other reviews that mentioned this issue but there were so many other glowing reviews that I decided maybe it wasn't a big deal. I've had this TV a few days and am trying to decide if I can live with this defect. I will probably return it.
The picture quality is great. I don't notice any blurring, even with fast motion. I am using HD cable and with one call to my cable company, they walked me through getting it set up. (I couldn't figure it out on my own.)
I'm kind of surprised that LG is still selling this TV. It was on sale and seems like a good deal but considering the sound sync problem I think they should sell it for $200 or not at all.

I originally purchased the LG 42LH30 and returned it for this model. The 120hz makes a huge difference and you can tell the higher contrast ratio makes a difference too. I bit the bullet and bought some high end HDMI cables, which is worth it with the 120hz. I actually have the 120hz set to "low" or "off" most of the time. Some fast games like football need the 120hz but movies look 3-D and unnatural with it turned on...at least on "high". The picture wizard is a nice starting point but I got it calibrated too...definately worth it. I'm very picky so it probably deserves a higher rating...but for under $1,000 how could it be that good, right? A very good buy for someone wanting a mid-range TV at a great price!

I read the other reviews on this site about this T.V. and I was not sure if I should buy it. I talked to the techs in BB and they said it was a good T.V. Now, I read where people said about the audio delay, and some said it was not good for gaming, and some said there was a blur. I am not sure what kind of cables they were using, but you need to have HDMI cords when using this or any other HDTV. As far as the audio delay goes, it is not the T.V. but the cable channels. I noticed that some channels have it and some do not. I played a football game last night on the T.V. and it has never looked better! And I saw no blur - not on cable, a movie or a game. all around you cannot beat the price of this T.V. with a stick! this probably the best buy you can get!

Cannot recommend this TV. I just returned mine to the store two weeks after purchase. Very disappointed to find that picture and sound were not synchronised on cable viewing. Sound delayed a little after the picture. Couldn't live with such a major fault which is a shame as it looks like a great set and the picture was excellent. Will opt for one of the equivalents from Sony or Samsung instead. Only noted after buying that other people have left similar feedback here and in other forums. The store guy even said he had heard about this problem but they are still selling this TV!!! Wish he'd said before I bought it...

I've had this tv for about 4 months now and it is everything I wanted in an HDTV. The picture is crystal clear out of the box and even though you are suppose to calibrate these tvs, I haven't had a need to do so. I wanted at least a 42 inch HDTV, LCD (to avoid plasma glare), 120 HZ to avoid motion blur, and under $1300. I looked at a few Samsungs and Sonys but both brands go from 40 inches to 46. I also considered a 46 inch Sharp but wasn't impressed with the video quality. So the LG 42LH40 is what I bought. The screen is bright and beatiful and sports in high-def look amazing. The menus are clear and intuitive which makes changing settings a breeze. The remote isn't anything fancy but I do like the large input button that allows you to quickly switch between devices by displaying large icons that represents your inputs with the active inputs in color. The tv has a on off indicator on the lower right hand side that glows blue when off and red when on. This light also does a little Knight

this tv has its moments, but thats if you dont mind the constant bluring and striking. I am returning this T.V and looking for a new one, i recently went to best buy and looked at tvs and saw they all have this effect, even with 120hz. I watched the dark knight on blu ray and it ruined it. Just dont buy it. Also there is an audio delay

Compared to higher priced competitors, the picture is equal. Set-up is easy and the swivel stand is also great if you have windows that allow daytime sunlight into the viewing area. The speakers are not very good which is the only real drawback. If you have a sound system then no problem. For the money you can't beat this tv.

I had my eye on this TV because it was the best value among 120hz models of this size. I also was considering Samsung, but this one went on sale and was a great deal. I found it very easy to set up and the menus easy to navigate. It has a feature called picture wizard that walks you through several picture adjustment steps to calibrate the picture and set it to your liking. The picture quality is excellent and the sound is very good as well, although I would recommend having an external sound system if you want to watch movies with better sound and bass. I did notice the sound delay that other reviewers had mentioned, but it only seemed to be for one program that I had recorded. Maybe it is the DVR and not the TV. The included table stand swivels, which I like. It doesn't have picture-in-picture or an S-video input like my last TV, but I can manage without them. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a nice midrange LCD.

LG's make top quality products and this model a 42" is no exception. The picture quality and lifelike colors (especially in high def.) is as good as any other brand. Many have critized the built in speakers as not bringing out the best sound. Alkthough this is somewhat true I have found out that most sets in the 40-50 inch range no matter who makes them have mostly the same problems with poor sound. The setup on the LG was quite easy and getting the picture quality to my liking wasn't hard at all. Overall I looked at many other brands brands and I found that many of the people selling tv's prefered LG's over other brands, that meant something to me.
Overall I love my LG and would recommend it to my friends.

I purchased this TV not quite 2 years ago and the warrenty on it is of course one year. It started to turn the picture off after being on for approximately one hour. The sound still worked but the picture would go black and stay off for around 5 minutes and then come back on. I took the TV to one an LG recommended service person and they tried to repair it. I was told a panel on the back had gone bad and needed to be replaced but the problem is that they no longer make the panel. To make matters even more insane the repair man told me that the panel costs $2600.00 if it was available so I basically needed to purchase another TV because it was impossible to repair. The TV itself didn't cost that much. This has to be the poorest quality TV I have ever owned. It didn't even last two years. I just want you to know that I will NEVER purchase an LG product ever again and I WILL be posting messages on every review I can find to discourage any other people from buying LG. Beware of buying LG unless

TV is great and value can't be beat. Compare to a Samsung or Sony (40") 120Hz TV's, it is 2 inches bigger and at a better price point. Compared the picture in store with the others and it's right up there. Also, the expert setting function lets you adjust the pitcure to your preference and lighting in the room.

I bought the 42LG70 at my local Best Buy while looking around to replace my broken Vizio. I admired it as I walked in but it was above my budget at $999.99. I was looking at the 40 LG with only 60hz, he said he would sell the floor model to me at $700 which I thought was a decent deal. He couldn't locate the stand and was about to take the stand off the 42LG70model when he decided that he would just give me the 42" model with 1080p/120hz for $700.00 only thing it was the floor model. He was the store manager! What luck! I was skeptical that the tv might have a lot of hours used, but it has a 60,000 hours life span on the light, but I bought the protection service to protect my purchase. I got this TV home, hooked up the HDMI cables (120hz capable is important when it comes to cables, if it's only 60hz - the picture will look terrible), I adjusted the picture settings, turned on the Trumotion while watching Nim's Island with the kids and our mouths hit the floor! Excellent, breath-taking

I was looking at Samsung and Sony but quickly realized that they lack some features i really want. LG has an excellent matte screen that works well in a bright room, it has EXCELLENT built in sound for a flat screen TV, and the Intelligent Sensor feature really works as the TV adjusts to ambient light to provide a good picture not matter what time of day. Other cool features that actually work are the auto commercial volume leveler and the clearvoice thing that makes voices stand out more so you don't have to worry if someone on your favorite show/movie is whispering. I was surprised how much I love this TV but am totally sold and plan to buy more LG LCD in the near future.

I love the TV so much I went back and got the 42 inch 2 weeks later. The picture is so realistic. Love the design of the TV as a whole. It was so easy to set up. Just everything about the LG is great. The sound is fine for TV speakers but I have it hooked up to a stero reciever.

I purchased this HD on impulse and I have to agree with a recent review I unfortunately read after the purchase. IT HAS AN ANNOYING HALF 0.5 SECOND AUDIO PROBLEM. The persons mouth begins to move then u finally hear the audio. Soooooo annoying. The picture is beautiful if it's not a fast motion part of a movie or show. SERIOUSLY do your homework before purchasing an HDTV. I took the tv back and exchanged it for a Samsung. Best exchange i ever done!

This tv has a great picture with good colors, very sharp, and a nice hd and blueray picture. The overall picture quality(because of the sharpness and color) is even better than my more expensive samsung ln-46b630. I had some issues with the lg though. The audio through my hdmi from the direct tv reciever would not match the video(lips moved then sound)On my blueray the audio was fine? secondly there is a slight light leakage out the back of the tv. It lights up the wall when the room is dark? The truemotion setting must be turned off, If turned on you will see motion blur when watching dvds.(same with my samsung) 120hz effects are a problem for me. Also the contrast is good but not great. Overall the price and sharp bright picture make this tv a good choice. The samsung i exchanged for, the audio matches the video.no light leakage out the back, great contrast, colors and sharpness are not as good as the lg. But overall i like the samsung better, more $$$$ though.

Me and my wife were looking at getting the samsung, or sony t.v, until we walked by this one and seen it had the sensor on it that will dim when it's dark and get brighter when it's lighter out. Now let me tell ya, this is a great feature. Also, it's a great price.

I've been looking at HD TVs for so long the guys at work said they didn't believe I'd ever do the deal ... was focused on Sony Bravias for some time but I am glad I did my due diligence and noted that some of the models I thought might be right for me had some picture control issues ... then I watched as my girlfriend sat in front of this LG while I roamed the store and talke to the (knowledgeable) sales associates ... she was in front of the 42-inch, 120Hz LG ... I was ready to buy it at $1,2999 then it went on sale for $999 and I jumped at it. Got the HD starter pack from Comcast, love it for the price, but did go for a little extra bucks to buy the Extra Innings baseball package. When they say you can see a bead of sweat or a blade grass, they're right. I love this TV and it was worth the wait ...

Got a great deal on this TV at $999 and was initially very impressed by the picture quality......that was until I noticed the audio was delayed about 0.5 seconds compared to the video. This created a lip-syncing appearance that was very noticeable. This issue was present through both HD cable box (comcast) and DVD inputs when using HDMI cables (and did not change when different HDMI cables were tried). Using component cables improved the issue but did not completely resolve it. A repair guy came by and ordered a new processing board but after over 3 weeks of waiting LG could still not give Best Buy a shipping date for the board and so I just took it back instead. Gave this LG model one more try thinking it could be an individual TV issue and the same exact issue was present on the 2nd. LG does have a history of having this issue and specifically this has been mentioned on multiple reviews of the LH40 series.... so beware. In addition the repair guy said he didn't think a software update

I was lucky to get this badboy for 999, and after the reviews I read I was expecting it to be awesome... and I was right!

The picture quality on Blue Ray is breathtaking. I've never seen something look that good. I dont have HD channels so I cannot comment on that... however, if you have standard defintion and put the TV on Cinema mode its looks GREAT. The TV was very easy to set up. I just plugged the cable in and it started finding the channels. Its very light compared to other TV's that size, which is a plus. I had no trouble with the "motion blur", and I read that if you do see a blur, just take off the Trumotion.

My only issue with the TV is the sound, but thats not a problem for me since I have a surround sound system.

I got great deal on this tv...adding an hdmi with a blu-ray player--takes full advantage of the "trumotion" feature...i simply can't pry myself off the couch now! better than the cinema...now i need to invest in a surround sound system!

TV is fantastic, price was great and only one complaint. There is no feature to label channels. I have limited basic cable and only the stations which are part of that subscription are labeled. I am picking-up many other stations or the same stations in digital but the these stations aren't labeled (eg WGN 104-10). Even LG support couldn't find this feature. Very inconvenient when searching the channel list.

The picture on this set is epic. 80,000:1 contrast ratio and 120hz = superb HD picture. The image quality with DirecTv HDDVR and HDMI is stellar. I fully reccomend this TV to anyone looking to get the best deal on a really satsfying purchase. No need to spend hundreds more for another brand. The sound is not that dynamic, but it a flat screen. The optical output to a 5.1 or 7.1 receiver should do the trick to complete an immersed experience.

Standard DVD (DIsney's CARS) played through PS2 on AVI input 2 looks like a window into another world. Discovery HD Theatre can only be expressed by experienceing it yourself with this TV.

In summary, buy it.

Purchased this TV at local Best Buy on sale for $999.99....and 3 years no interest on the BB card. Great deal!!!! Picture on HD chanels is perfect...Standard channels...so so.....Set up and memu options are easy to use plenty of options. Only thing to improve would be sound is average, you can solve that with a home theater system. and the remote is not universal and not the best quality...but easy to use.....I solved that with a cable remote that can be programed for all devices... The only other negative is the the black piano finish has to be wiped every day as the dust shows easy..All and all a beautiful TV with a stunning pictue with HD channels...

I just got this TV a few weeks ago; it replaced an old 42' LG 720p 60hz that I purchased in 2006. The picture on the new TV is unbelievable. BestBuy bought out my old TV because it took them too long to repair my old TV so I was given a $1,985 store credit toward a new TV because when I purchased the LG in 2006 it was about $2,100 with warranty. The new tv was only $999.99 ; I also bought an IPOD nano, I purchased service warranties on both items and I have a store credit of over $500 left. I am one happy customer.

I just picked up this TV today and very happy with the clear picture. This was my first HDTV and sure beats my 50 " 100 pound tube TV. I tested out it out with my DVD and Xbox 360 and the picture is just amazing. The screen refreshes very quickly. A TV like this below $1000 is a bargain. The bonus is receiving reward points for being a reward member.

The only downfall was Best Buy wouldn't deliver this TV to the nearest store or at my address location, so I had to make a long 6 hour round trip drive. However, it was well worth the drive.

Thanks Best Buy.

I absolutely love my new TV! I was given this TV as a b-day gift and have had it for several weeks now. The picture is incredible; sound is great; features amazing. Replacing my Sony WEGA was pure heaven. I pretty much use a TV for TV viewing whenever I can be home, so someday I hope to take advantage of all it has to offer. I was using a regular antenna because I was too cheap to pay for cable. Well, this TV finally made me break down, and I now have cable. Even the cable guy was over the top about the picture quality. The energy saving, sleep timer and timed features are great especially because I leave the TV on for the dogs while I'm at work. The menus are very easy to use, and I love the auto voice and pic features. The design is great and so much easier to manuever and get around. If you can only get one TV, definitely invest in the 42LH40. And if you are lucky enough to receive as a gift, make sure you treat that person extra special...that's what they think of you!!

Bought this TV for $999.99 from my local yellow-tag retailer. I've had the tv for almost 3 weeks now and over-all, I am happy.

Pros:
1. The menu system looks nice and is very easy. No confusion even for the most tech ignorant user.
2. Energy saver feature is nice, maybe a little gimicky but nice.
3. Very light weight and easy to install.
4. 4 HDMI inputs are great.
5. Physical appearance in-home is very nice.
6. HD picture is amazing unless very fast motion is involved (see below).

Cons
1. Standard definition picture can be poor. This was almost always remedied by putting the picture on "Game" mode.
2. Fast motion does result in blurring. It's not all the time and usually only lasts a split-second but it can be VERY noticeable. This is not my first HD TV but is my fist LCD. I expected much less blurring for 120HZ but to be honest, don't know how much blurring could be considered normal for an LCD. So far I have only experienced the blurring with TV and movies both through the cable

I got this TV for my B-day, I am some what of a tech nut. I wouldn't say I could work at Geek Squad but I love this sort of stuff. I couldn't be more happy with this TV. When I started the process I wanted a Sony kdl 46V5100. I got this cause it was hundreds cheaper and about the same size. Only one draw back when set up with a blu ray player the low quality films (Space Balls) looks so bad I couldn't finish the film, I had to insert it into my regular DVD player.

I originally bought the 42LH30, but the 40 went on sale a week later for the same price. Between the two televisions you can tell a huge difference in the quality. The LH30 had an excellent picture but the remote and the housing on the set seemed cheap. When the LH40 came up for the same price I returned it for the 120 hZ. When watching a movie on Blu Ray the picture is AMAZING! It almost borders on life-like. I would buy this TV even if it was $200 more just for the faster refresh rate and the fourth HDMI port. I really liked the ease of setup. I had it out of the box and watching a movie within thirty minutes. I am going to buy a PC cable for my laptop and utilize hulu.com and the Netflix watch instantly feature to watch movies on the TV. I wish the sound was just a little better as I have to adjust the volume quite a bit between different channels. Overall though I think this TV is a great buy. I actually won a 40" Sony Bravia a week after buying this television and decided to give the

To start with I have no clue about the stuff you are supposed to know about TV's, let alone new TV's as I haven't gotten one in 10 years or so. After my husband and I got tired of not being able to play video games on our old TV we broke down and bought this on a month ago. We could not be happier, this picture is great, we were able to hook up all our game consoles and the HD with no problem and the sound is much improved over most TV's we are around. I cannot stress enough how easy this was to set up. Neither of us are very electronically inclined, and we had no problem getting everything working great!

I got this TV on sale, even though it was a steal at that price i was very disappointed in it. With 120Hz i thought that Motion blur would not be a problem. But playing many High Def games on it, and PS3 games and movies I found that anything moving fast pace....at all would cause a blur. And it was very very very...noticeable. Playing basketball on it if you made a pass the ball almost looked like it had a trail behind it. Watching people run it almost looked like they were running in slow motion.

I think The problem rested in the fact that 120Hz might be too powerful. The 120Hz shows EVERY GLARING defect about games or some movies etc. and With some games that I played it was intolerable. However, I did find that this TV if you are watching just regular TV shows that don't have fast action. The Picture will look fantastic, and you will really notice reduced blur. The Picture is vivid, the Sound is Great and the Voice enhancer is fantastic. it has the easiest menus i have ever

I have worked for Charter Communications and have seen many HDTV's. I have also been researching televisions for a while before i decided to buy this one. The picture quality is better than any other tv i have seen for less than $3000.00. It is very bright so it works great in any room with any lighting condition. One hint, turn off the energy saver and set the picure mode to vivid. That is all the picture tuning you will need. It will blow your mind. The audio features(Auto Volume and Clear Voice) are perfect. You can tune it to help hear voices more than background noise. My parents also bought this tv and have been extremely happy. I would recommend this tv to anyone.

Easy setup , had it up and running within 10 minutes . LOTS of adjustments to play around with or you can go automatic on the settings . Decent sound , 4 hdmi hookups , digital / optical out for the higher end stereo receivers ( great feature ) . Picture is clear , bright , crisp , and really makes a show or movie come to life . Even the 720P TV broadcast looks great on it , PS3 R O C K S on it as well . Was looking at Samsungs until I stumbled onto the LG , for $ 500 less , it has MORE ! Wish the TV's came with a HDMI cable though ? 2.7 ms response , 80k contrast , 5.5 conversion , tru cinema , lots of sound fields , USB hookup , the list goes on and on ! I stole this for $999 as an unadvert. special and the next day it went up to $1165 , but STILL a great deal on a great TV !

I'm exchanging this TV for a Samsung next week. As noted on other reviews, the picutre is excellent--- as long as there's not much movement. No matter what settings I use or what picture source (blu-ray,dvd,cable), there's a noticeable blur around any one that moves too quickly. I thought I might have a defective unit until I noticed the same complaint in a review of the LG 47" model.

Similar to another review on the 47" model, I've also had an audio sync problem on HD channels when using HDMI cable.

Needless to say, I'm very disappointed with this TV.

I brought this TV home in my car and set it up myself in about 20 minutes (I am a 5'3" 130 pound woman - something unheard of with the tube TVs). Verizon came and installed FIOS the following week (standard def picture is spectacular as well) and I've been enjoying it ever since. I watch a lot of sports and the 120Hz is the way to go if you're a sports watcher. Smooth transition and no blurring. Sound is great and like alot of the other reviewers, I was bouncing between the Sony ($$$) and the Samsung. Consumer Reports steered me to the LG, along with a neighbor's recommendation and after staring at the Samsung, Sony and LG at BB, I could see no discernible difference in the pics and the LG provided two extra inches for less money. I like the menu options and auto setting choices on LG remote. Also, the room where my TV sits has three large bay windows and the LG offered a "matte" finish which was less "glary" than the Samsung or the Sony (thank you BB salesman!). That is something I would
